Big brother network monitor bb4

Hello,
I have successfully installed the bb client 1.9i on a mac mini running OS X 10.5.5. I can startup and shutdown bb manually, by typing at the terminal:
# ./runbb.sh start/stop/restart.
I am having troubles with the startup script. According to the Mac documentation for leopard, they suggest using launchd for the startup scripts. Has anyone been able to successfully get the bb startup script working under OS X leopard? I need to be able to do everything from the command line.
Thanks,
Jonathan

I was launching as a user who was not root, but had all privileges root has. User nobody has sudo rights to runbb.sh to not require a password.
I tried starting the plist file as root and I get a different error in the system.log file.
Nov 12 14:03:35 jade com.cq.bb[89731]: Starting Big Brother Script

  • Is there a way to export Network Monitor information?

We have some users reporting intermediate latency issues that clear up before we can log into their systems. I was wondering if there was a way to export Network Monitor information to help troubleshoot the issue.

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

  • SONET/SDH network monitoring

    Hi,
We are starting to deploy a new SONET/SDH network, but we haven't realy thought about deploying monitoring until now. The problem is that we don't have too much experience either, so we don't quite know what we should start monitoring and what is mandatory to monitor.
Can anybody with a bit of experience in SONET/SDH tell me what they are monitoring, or what the big operators are monitoring ussualy to ensure a good SLA to their customers.
    Thanks.

Keep an eye on the ES, CV-L and the CV-P. Of course the CV-L will show a whole facility in trouble and a CV-P will show a particular STS in trouble. However the Path alarms can be deceiving if provisioned between optical interfaces and the signal has not been applied (channalized OC-x).
The ES (errored seconds) can give you an indication of the health of a link, normally it should always be zeros; as a problem starts to creep in you will notice an error just every now and then, and as the days go by they will increase. So if you can watch for patterens it is possible to catch a trouble before it becoms too bad.
    Hope this helps,
    Tim

  • Error message when trying login to Network Monitor "oops something went wrong"

I am trying to get network monitor to work on my network. However, when installed I enter my credentials and get the error something went wrong. I am assuming we are blocking some traffic on the firewall or possibly even through a content filter. What I don't know is what url needs to be white-listed or which ports need to be opened for the application to work.
Firewall is off on the pc. I can authenticate when on a standard "outside link" But cannot when the same pc is on the LAN at work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Spiceworks Network Monitor not working after upgrading to version 1.2

It's the same with my upgrade. Look like we need some oil and vinegar for the  pepper ;)

    Hello,
I received the email informing the availability of the new release of Network Monitor. After upgrading, the web console locks at below step:
The above issue persists whatever restarting the services or rebooting the computer hosting this service.
I also noticed that the size of this release is 682KB which is obviously small compare to old version:
Anyone else experiences the same issue?
    Thanks

  • XFCE network monitor applet

XFCE has this nice network monitor applet, in which you can set the colors of the incoming and outgoing bar. The only problem is that they don't seem to have any effect. Mine stay blue. I'm guessing the global color scheme is interfering somehow... Any solution for this problem?

This is awesome, thank you for contributing this.

  • Performance of Network Monitoring in SCOM 2012 SP1

    Hi all!
I´ve problems with performance of the network monitoring feature in SCOM 2012 SP1.
    According to the
guide the following should be adeqate:
•1000 network devices (approximately 12,500 monitored ports) managed by a resource pool that has three or more management servers
•500 network devices (approximately 6,250 monitored ports) managed by a resource pool that has two or more gateway servers
We have 800 network devices with a total of 24000 ports,
BUT only 1500 of them are monitored. This is basically what happens automatically after discovery, since only ports between monitored devices are monitored by default.
For this setup I first used only one management server dedicated to the Network Pool,
based on my assumption that if two servers could monitor 6250 ports, one server would be more than enough for 1500. I found this configuration working very poorly so I added another server. I now have two servers
dedicated for the Network Resource Pool. (They are NOT members of the “All management servers resource pool”)
Still, I get constant alerts regarding Health Services Private Bytes on these servers. They vary between 1-2Gbytes. Furthermore, if one of the servers goes offline, the network devices that was monitored by that server becomes grey for
several hours. Even if the server only is rebooted it takes forever to get everything online and green again.
I don´t really know what I should do now. I had a plan to replace our current network monitoring system (SNMPc) which easily handles this load on only one server. They are of course completely different beasts, but still. SCOM seems to
require a massive back-end to produce equivalent real life results.
Any suggestions or reflections from the field are highly appreciated!
    Regards
    Peter

    Hi,
Try to overide the monitor Health Services Private Bytes by the following steps.
◾Go Authoring space – Management Pack Objects – Monitors
◾Go to change scope – select clear all – look for Health Service – tick it and press OK.
◾Expand Health Service – expand Entity Health – expand Performance – expand Health Service Performance
◾Select the Health Health Service Private Bytes Threshold.
◾Right click the mouse and choose to overide the monitor for a group
◾Select the group called Management Server Computer Group and press OK
◾Select the Agent Performance Monitor Type – Threshold and change the value 104857600 to ex. 2610612736.
◾Select to store the overide in a management pack you have created and press OK

  • Will the Big Ten Network overflow channels be available in my area by Sept. 5th?

It seems that the majority of the nation has gotten the Big Ten Network overflow channels on 330-333.  These came on-line sometime in late July.  However, I have yet to receive them and the supervisor at Verizon whom I spoke to yesterday says that my "region" doesn't have them and doesn't know if I'll be getting them.
I have the regular BTN channel and the BTN HD.  Why is it that folks in the town next door to me, folks in Virginia, and folks in Califormia have these channels, and I do not?
Will they be available in time for the first Big Ten football games on September 5th?
I live in Lawrenceville, NJ, and have the "Hopewell Township" line-up.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For everyone that is serviced out of VHO8 (Philly area, DE, South Jersey) - we should see the channels come online the last week of August.
Additional project work is in progress at the VHO which has held up the launch. No worries - we'll have them before the first PSU game.

We are testing out the network monitoring piece in SCOM 2012 but for some reason it never does show the servers.  We have a test switch with a monitored server connected directly to it but after the discovery completes it doesn't show the server as
being connected.  The switch in question is a Juniper and if you look at the diagram view for the device it does show all of the ports under "not monitored" and the Processor and Memory under "Healthy."  The following event sequence shows up in the
    "Network Discovery Progress Events" view:
Full Discovery Started for 1 request(s)
Proceeding to discover all systems in repository

I've been trying to find some documentation on any other settings that are required to get network monitoring to work as advertised but so far I have struck out.  Help!

Sorry Matt - you did say that very clearly in your previous post. I'll try and do better this time ;-)
    From here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212935.aspx
    From here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2011/09/20/what-gets-monitored-with-system-center-operations-manager-2012-network-monitoring.aspx
"An agent computer that is directly connected to a device will have the connecting interface added to this group.  For this to work the management group must have the Windows Operating System management pack for the agent’s operating system, the Windows
Client Network Discovery management pack and the Windows Server Network Discovery management pack. The full discovery of the agent’s operating system has to be completed including the discovery of the agent’s network adapters. Then when network  discovery
runs for the device it should stitch the port on the device to the network adapter on the computer and add the port to this group."
    So possibly:
    - check the management packs specified are imported
    - check the the agents network adapters have been discovered
    From here -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212935.aspx - it is also possible to do this for non-scom monitored servers.
"Ports that are connected to a computer are not monitored; only ports that connect to other network devices are monitored. You can monitor a port that is connected to a computer that is not agent-managed in the same management group by adding the port to
    the Critical Network Adapters Group."
    Cheers

  • Basic Network Monitoring for Cisco Operation Manager 2012

    Hello,
Please bear with me as i'm new the Operations Manager 2012 world. I've just installed operations manager 2012 in our environment and i've setup a network management point. I've discovered my networking gear which is primarily cisco equipment. The devices
are appearing as CERTIFIED. It appears that they are HEALTHY however in most cases i'm getting some arbitrary monitors. I have a 6509 switch where memory and processor appear to be being monitored out of the box. I'm receiving alerts and everything.
My question is how do I turn on monitoring for other discovered components. I seem to understand I can make SNMP monitors under the authoring pane if i know the OID. That sounds like it'd be tedious work for such a simple and basic monitor. However I was
under the impression I would be able to monitor a lot of these components with a simple click of a button. Is this not the case? I'm primarily interested in monitoring the state and performance of particular interfaces as well as the state of the power supplies
in our switches. Is there a guide that explains the basic principles of this. What are my options?
    Thanks!
    -Brandon

    Hi,
You will need to edit the discovery and broaden the range. You may use recursive discovery.
Recursive discovery will try to discover any other network devices it knows about through its Address Routing Protocol (ARP) table, its IP address table, or the topology Management Information Block (MIB) to grow the network map and present all applicable
    devices to you for monitoring.
You can also filter out devices that you don't want to be discovered by using properties such as the device type, name, and object identifier (OID). This is a handy option if you wanted to quickly discover all the network devices in your network except,
a small number or some with a specific criteria.
In really large networks with a lot of network devices, keep in mind that there is a default limit of 1500 network devices that can be discovered recursively. You can of course tweak this limit to suit your environment if you wish, but for most people, this
    won't be needed.
More details, please go through the article below:

Please point me to some documentation or approach to resolve the problems.
    Thanks in advance

The best choice depends on several things:
your network size and complexity, esp multi-vendor management needs,
whether or not you want servers and applications as well to be be monitored,
your ability to customize and configure free (open source) vs. wanting a vendor-supported product with easy out-of-the-box setup,
    etc.
SolarWinds certainly offers a strong product suite (NPM plus NTA for the functions you mentioned) although large setups can get pricey (I have seen some US$ 6 figures). For many small to medium enterprises it is a good solution and it offers nice integration pay as you grow.
On the open source side you can put together a solution based on several tools. For instance, Nagios + Cacti + ntop + RANCID all combined give you a lot of useful information. Cost of ownership may or may not be higher as you do all the integration work yourself.
Some people speak highly of What's Up Gold although it's a more basic product. Also, ManageEngine's tools are well-regarded.
Of course an all-Cisco shop is best served by Cisco's offerings.

  • Unable to disable Network Monitor in Flash Builder 4 Standard

For some reason the Network Monitor is enabled for my Flash Builder project. Perhaps it was enabled when I was running the FB4 Beta 2 version. Now I need to disable the Network Monitor, but of course, since I'm using FB4 Standard the Network Monitor view says I need to purchase FB4 Premium.
All my app traffic is redirecting to localhost:37813 so I know the network monitor is still enabled. Can anyone tell me how to disable Network Monitor in FB4 Standard?
    Thanks,
    David

    Thierry,
I finally figured it out. In Flash Builder close your project. Then in the file system go and directly edit the .actionScriptProperties file. In the main <actionScriptProperties tag edit the includeNetmonSwc="true" flag to be includeNetmonSwc="false" instead. That will stop including the network monitor library in your code and should turn monitoring off.
That setting is controlled by the network monitor tab, but that tab is only visible with the premium version of Flash Builder so it seems once your trial version times out you can never disable it via the GUI, just via the .actionScriptProperties file.
Now reopen your project after saving the changes to .actionScriptProperties and you should be good to go.
    David

  • WRE54G Network Monitor

I'm trying to trouble shoot some connection issues and want to upgrade my WRE54G Expander's firmware.  I've downloaded the firmware file and the setup wizard, but steps provided by the support site say that I need to connect to my range expander via the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor.  Unfortunately neither my product CD or the downloadable setup wizard provide this utility.  How do I acquire it?
    Thanks,

    1. Connect your Expander to a computer, click on the Start button >>> Settings >>>Control Panel >>> Network Connections - Right click on the icon for Local area connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the following IP address'- Provide IP Address - 192.168.1.5, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0. Default Gateway - 192.168.1.240. Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window. Click here for more information about assigning a Static IP Address on a Wired Computer.
    2. Now open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.240. Leave the User name blank & in Password use admin in lower case. It should open your Expander set-up.
    3. Once you get to the set-up page go to the Help tab. On that page you will find the option to upgrade the Firmware of the Range Expander. When you click on Firmware upgrade, it will open another pop up window. Browse the Firmware file that you have already downloaded from the Linksys website and click on upgrade.
    4. After upgrading the Firmware of the range expander, it is recommended that you hould reset the range expander to the factory default settings. Then try to reconfigure the range expander.
