BIG Font Problem in XP, sorry for offtopic thread

I appologize again for being off topic, but i do not know where else to look.
Everything was working fine yesterday. I have Suitcase to manage fonts and I had a lot of fonts activated and they were working fine. I restarted my computer and then the fonts in Suitcase previewed as Arial and dont activate. When i try to install them into the system, it says the font maybe damaged or corrupt. Also in the fonts folder, most of the fonts have a little arrow on them, like a shortcut symbol. This is very important, any suggestions will be appreciated
Thank you

Thank you for your reply Bart,
When I right click on the font and hit properties, an error message comes up saying the font is not in the directory which is in Extensis/Suitcase/ ... I've tried reinstalling Suitcase and reimporting fonts and doing a system restore but nothing. I even tried deleting all the non-native fonts from my Fonts folder in control panel. Im very frustrated and really really need this to work. Thanks again
Mikhail

  • Big Font Problems

Hi, I decided I'd still all the fonts from my old G4 Powermac onto my Macbook Pro and put them onto a memory dongle and started click and dragging the folders into Font Book (well over a thousand), during which it named quite a few files as corrupt and warned me not to install them.
Just as I went to tell it not to install them I brushed my dongle so and a warning message came up telling me the device was not removed properly, also Font Book crashed before I could tell it not to install fonts. All this whilst I was installing. I had to force quite the whole finder and restart and now when I go to open say Word, a screen comes up again and again stopping me from getting anywhwere saying:
"please remove font (say TImes) as it is corrupt", then once I've removed that font from font book, another one...then another one and another one, I've been here half a day deleting fonts, sometimes they are important fonts like Arial and Helvetica and it warns me not to delete them in Font Book because they are system fonts and could effect the running of some aplications, but at the same time Word tells me to delete them, I've had to dissable all my fonts because everything workds slow. I want to delete all my fonts and start again but from where can I recover the standard fonts my computer came with? And would I be risking any of the applications in the meantime?
What shall I do next and is there any quick way of distinguising the corrupt fonts (seems to be about half) from all the no corrupt fonts?
    Cheers,
    Ray
Sorry if this is a really thick question

    OK solved.
Yes the problem was that although all the fonts were showing as normal in the system folder they were a few remaining fonts in Font Book (just the system ones) and they were deactivated, I've since activated and will not be touching it any longer as there's no need.
With Extensis it does tell you to not only have the system fonts active at all times but also Helvetica as many applications need that font, so I activated Helvetica out of the many versions I have. Only after further research what I should have done is activate specifically "Helvetica.dfont", that's the key and is the main font used in web pages like Google and Yahoo on Safari and Mail on macs, everything looks normal now. Also, after activating all the other system fonts listed above again the red star appeared back on the mail icon to notify me of new mail
Also what I like now that my fonts (around 20 thousand) have been orgonized sorted from roots up is that everything loads so speedily!..on boot up, when opening software like Word, Photoshop and Illustrator, which can often take ages if you have a wrongly placed big font collection.
OK, thanks for all the help guys, but guess what, I have ONE LAST PROBLEM, and I won't bother you any more, promise.
Last month, I had spent ages typing out the most perfect CV in word, I did a print version where I used variations of Helvetica, and an Email version for sending to office by Email where to avoid font substitution problems with PC users not having Helvetica I used Arial. I had a very tight layout with small letters, had a lot of trouble getting all my lines in there, as I used a table layout I'd made, and after a lot of tweaking and cursing had finally made things look perfect without tables jumping onto the next screen and leaving lots of white gaps. It was the ultimate perfect CV and a lot of people had commented on how it was so clear, and an example of how a CV should look as it wasn't over laden with graphics, stupid styles, overkill distracting font variations and colours etc etc.
Anyway, went to open them again just this evening to print and send out some more copies for a new job that's appeared and...nightmare! Everything is all over the place, fonts have been substituted to Times New Romany serif looking ones, and bold typefaces to some other crappy san serif. The tables that I'd spent ages making stay still have jumped all over the place due to font substitutions.
So obviously I went to Extensis Suitcase and made sure that all the Helveticas I have were activated (tonnes) and that all the Arial I have was activated. But when I went to re open word after re-starting it, sadly same problem.
Is there a fix for this?

  • (sorry for double thread) I have problems installing and uninstalling

sorry that i posted 2 things in one day but  whenever i uninstall After effects it gives me a message at the end that says "some problems occured while uninstalling please look below" there are no messages below and i cant do anything about it. also after i try uninstalling its still there in the uninstall/remove programs and if i try to uninstall that it says "choose the stuff you want to uninstall" and it will usually give me a list of things but it doesnt. and if i proceed to uninstall it odesnt do anything and stops responding. When i tried to install it the first time it said said there were somethings that werent installed please restart and retry it again and the more info button shows a list of things that went wrong like templates, 3 party content, 16x9 dv movie, footage and projects, all of those things have an error and some sort of fatal error i think 1609 or something i dont want to reinstall Vista i just did 2 days ago and AAE has never done this before please reply i appreciate it.

Well, the lesson here is to never use system restore with activated Adobe apps. Doing so changes the fingerprint of the harddrive and the licensing system and the installer do not particularly like this and Vista's own security stuff certainly doesn't make things easier. if you haven't already, run the CS3 Clean Script and remove evbery shred orf Adobe you have on the system, then re-install. If it still refuses to properly acknowledge your serial, then indeed calling support is the only way to get this sorted out. This stuff falls into the "black box full of magic" category, that noone else can help you with, unfortunately.

  • [sorry for offtopic] fix the damn forums

i wonder why i ever bother writing on these forums when I normally have to write a message twice to get it posted ... these are the worst forum boards I ever seen and I posted on many ... errors rising from nowwhere, stupid errors like "you cannot edit these forums" when infact i asked for a listing and so on. I`m pretty sure that you`re all high because you "helped" Avatar, but could you fix these forums meanwhile ... please?
    cheers;

I agree. How do you like the fact that you have to tell the forums where you want to post your topic when you create a new thread.

  • Font Problems in Keynote

    Hi all
Having some big Font problems using keynote since the last Snow Leopard update some month ago Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J869) .
I tried to install the Latest Font Update package as well but nothing.....
The problem is the Myriad Pro Bold font (Apple use Myriad Pro almost everywhere).
The other Myriads work just fine.
I have also checked the Font Book and the Font is NOT duplicated.
Have done some 50+ presentation in Keynote all with this Font.
    It looks like this
Thanks for your time and help

Yes I have...nothing happens. The font is myriad pro bold, all other myriads works. The thing is that I have used that in almost every slide in some 50 presentations, i.e hundreds or perhaps thousends of slides and in keynote you can not change them all et once. On my both iMacs works just fine but I cant install the uptades just in case, and who carry around an iMac for every presentation

I clicked on the OK button and the downloader closed.
I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download.  I redownloaded everything and reinstalled.  I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work.  I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year.  Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years.  I think I might need a new CODEC?   I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely different

I finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted".  I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe .  Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old  but they still don't support it on errors.  Only install errors!
I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now.  I will find something else next time!

  • Adobe Reader 8.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Ver 8 installed fine but can't get it to launch from any application. Have tried going back to earlier versions (6.1,6.2,7) but the same problem occurs.
    Same error message each time:
"Adobe Reader 8.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.456 ModName: acrord32.dll
    ModVer: 8.0.0.456 Offset: 00020916
Tried every troubleshooting tip in the Support Knowledgebase to no avail.
Have been using Reader for years with never any problems and now I can't seem to get this fixed after numerous hours.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a free support line I can call or is it paid support only?
    Thanks,
    Dee

Like others my problem was Adobe Reader 8.1.2 died terribly and with a buggy stench with the following error:
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.1.0.137 ModName: msvcr70.dll
    ModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 000013d6
    RESOLUTION ON XP SP2
    1. Control Panel, Users
    2. Create a new user account NewUser (for example)
    3. Start, Log Off
    4. Switch Users to the NewUser
    5. Wait the mini eternity for new user to be set up.
    6. Start Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 and you will see a red splash screen along with some license updating things.
    7. Adobe 8.1.2 now starts fine under NewUser
    8. Switch back to your regular user name. Start, Log off, Switch Users
Now a note to Adobe. Do you folks really have to make this such a frickin pain to get working? Do you at Acrobat have any idea of how much time we users blow and how much of our lives pass by while we try to re-download and work with this product? You are directly responsible for a small slow down in the world economy by this. Get the hint.... create an 8.1.3 that omits the secret code steps above.
The only thing that kept my sanity during this were nice songs on channel 86 on SIRIUS. Thank you SIRIUS.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
    1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
    2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
    3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
    4. I then rebooted my PC
    5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back!

The problem is with the current version of icuuc40.dll .
Download the zip folder and extract icuuc40.dll from it.
When you open the zip folder the file is in icu\bin.
You need to replace your old version of icuuc40.dll with this one.
The file is in Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application support.

    hi David!
okay, it's time to check if you have a weird registry problem. (the problem i'm thinking about produces the same error message.)
we diagnose that by creating a new user account (with full administrative privileges). you can do that in your "user accounts" control panel. there's help documentation on it to the left of the screen. while you're in there, also switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log on to the new user account. can you successfully launch itunes from inside there?
keep us posted on your progress.

I had the same issue. I found a solution under a different thread posted by scubastevee32. It worked for me. I copied pasted his solution below.
after countless hours of dead ends.... I found this to fix the problem(thank you "b noir")
hat one could be being caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (itunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)
so let's try swapping out your QuickTime.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
