BIG-IP Timeout with OAS 10g 10.1.2.0.2

We have installed OAS 10g 10.1.2.0.2 in two servers which are Load-balanced using hardware load balancer BIG-IP configuration.
10g As installation is done along with Infrastructure + Middle-tier.
But after all configuration after we run the Oracle forms application and keep it idle for more than one hour, Database connection with the Application server is disconnected due to Global Idle Timeout value of 1 hr in BIG-IP configuration.
Is there any Timeout parameter in OAS 10g 10.1.2.0.2 which can override the Idle Timeout value of BIG-IP Configuration.
Appreciate your response at the earliest.
Thank you.

My first thought is that you suggest the app server to database connection is timing out - I'm assuming you're not using the load balancer to balance sqlnet connections so are we actually talking about a firewall in between and not the Big IP?
If it is the load balancer then, looking at this another way... on Cisco CSS 11500 series you can definitely set the timeout on the load balancer to a specific value (or to never timeout), so you can probably do the same on the Big IP.
Note: I wouldn't recommend setting the connections to never timeout as this can potentially waste memory on your load balancers which might look like a memory leak after, say, 6 months in a production environment without a reboot.
Hope this helps.

  • Weblogic 10.3.2 as a replacement of OAS 10g full of Oracle Forms

    hello, quick question: Can I take a entire system in Oracle Forms with OAS 10g technology and deploy them on a Weblogic 10.3.2 as an upgrade/replacement option ?
    Can weblogic run Oracle forms out of the box or is there a vendor lock-in trick ?
    Thanks in advance,
    fabio

    Out of the box, WLS is not able to run Oracle Forms.
    At the time of this writing, for a complete replacement you need the following components:
    - WLS 10.3.2
    - OFM 11g Forms
    (optional for single sign-on)
    - OFM 11g OID
    - AS 10.1.4 OID DAS and mod_osso

  • Jdeveloper 10g with oracle 10g database

    i am evaluating jdeveloper 10g with the oracle database 10g. i am trying to invoke the oracle databse results in the applet. the applet code has been compiled successfully.but when i am trying to execute the applet the error found is 'no suitable driver'.
    how do i can resolve this problem.

    This is not a sales forum. As I already said you should contact an Oracle sales person which can answer your question. There are possible migration paths which will save you some money (against buying all new licences).
    I don't say that you have to upgrade to 12c. You can develop applications using the older technology using jdev 10g together with OAS 10g and Oracle DB 10g.
    If you want to use newer technology (jsf2.0...) you have to update as these are not available in 10g. The question if you need to update to 11g or 12c (jdev) you have to answer yourself and may ask the salesperson too. 12c is the latest technology and the question is if you need the latest. 11g if the jdev version which is used internally by Oracle and is on the marked quite some time.

  • Need help with error configuring Identity Management in OAS 10g

    Hi,

    I am totally stumped, cant find any instance of this error in docs etc. PLEASE HELP.
    I am trying to setup OAS to SSO with MS AS for oracle ebusiness suite 11i.
    Thanx in Advance,

    Check that your insfrastructure database is up and running, it's accesible, as well, check for OID procs and demons that ports for OID are open and that you can make ldapbind this last may not be necesary as the error say about database, but is good to check also. Go to *$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs* and check the files there to see if other process are having problems.

  • Licensing question of OAS 10g with web services

    Hi Shay,
    I have followed exactly what the tutorial
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/ws/wsandascontrol.htm
    explains. But at the end of the wizard , I cant select the methods for the web service to expose. When i click whynot ? button it says the the validity of the methods is not correct and there may be compilation errors. My JDeveloper is uptodate . When I selected Oracle service in the Web Service type selection of the wizard , it did everything and exposed methods, generated wsdl .. etc..
    Can you please tell where the problem is ?

  • Cant use log4j or commons logging with ease in OC4J/OAS 10g

    Hi,
    I have a simple JEE 5 app which just uses Log4J for logging. I have a log4j.properties at the right place. But deploying an EAR with this config fails
    Operation failed with error: Lorg/apache/log4j/Logger;
    or if i move to commons logging this...
    Operation failed with error: Lorg/apache/commons/logging/Log;
    Things as simple as using logging, I feel, shouldnt be any complex than what is inferred. Atleast there should more error detailing to it than a bozo message like the above.
    Anyone used logging in just a ejb jar app???

    We've run into this recently and were surprised to find out that Oracle not only "recommends" OAS over OC4J in a production environment, they require it. If you look at the license agreement that you accepted when you downloaded OC4J (you know, the thing that you never read) you'll find that Oracle expressly says that you are not allowed to use OC4J in anything other than a development environment.
    So, after years of using it for several applications, we now have to switch to OAS. Actually, we are doing this not only to stay legal, but also to take advantage of mod_oc4j for reverse proxy. We could not get this to work under OC4J so we started poking around with OAS and then found out that we were not licensed for either in production.
    If you are using OC4J in production, read the not-so-fine print. You are in violation of their license agreement.

  • Is OHS 10.1.3 compatible with OAS 10.1.2?

    I have an existing 10.1.2 standalone OHS and 10.1.2 OAS, and an existing 10.1.3 standalone OHS and 10.1.3 OAS running on different servers. I'd like to build a new server with 10.1.2 OAS and 10.1.3 OAS on it, but with a single installion of standalone OHS in front of them. I currently have OHS standalone 10.1.3 installed, has anyone had luck with this configuration? I'm not sure if my problem is a misconfiguration or if the problem is the topology.
    I have 10.1.2 OAS and 10.1.3 OHS clustered, but in the OHS I'm seeing "N/A" for the protocol for the processes, and in the oc4j-status from the web server I'm not getting any processes (if I turn on the 10.1.3 OAS of course it all works as expected).
    OAS 10.1.2: opmnctl status @farm -l
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+------
    ias-component | process-type | pid | status | uid | memused | uptime | ports
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+------
    OC4J | home | 6449 | Alive | 231080160 | 40648 | 22:49:42 | ajp:12501,rmi:12401,jms:12601
    OHS 10.1.3: opmnctl status @cluster -l
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+------
    ias-component | process-type | pid | status | uid | memused | uptime | ports
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+------
    OC4JGroup:OC4J | OC4J:home | 6449 | Alive | 231080160 | 40648 | 22:49:38 | N/A:12601,N/A:12401,N/A:12501
    Note that the protocol is "ajp" when seen from the AS, but the web server is calling it "N/A". When I look up the /oc4j-status page for mod_oc4j it's seeing no processes:
    mod_oc4j Global Configuration
    hostname : newserver.domain
    local instance : IAS-1
    select method : Round-Robin
    select affinity : None
    routing mode : Static

    context : /something
    process :
    IASPT Process List
    OC4J Process List

    Any ideas? I'd love to hear if anyone has had success with this setup. I'm assuming that OHS 10.1.3 works with OAS 10.1.2, but that could be my big mistake.

    Hi Walter,
    I never tried your setup..But sound interesting :)
    Found few of the oracle doc which will be helpful for you.

  • Crazy JNDI Problem... (Third Party DB Driver Effects Lookup???) (OAS 10g)

    Ok folks, I need some help here...
    The scenario is this...
    I have a simple web app (one jsp) which is used as a "status checker" to ensure that all the session beans we expected to be deployed are actually deployed and that they can be looked up with JNDI and run some small status routine... That war file for that app is included in the ear file with all of the session ejb jar deployments...
    Now, the collection of session beans references three different datasources at one time or another... 2 of which are oracle databases and 1 is a DB2 database...
    Lets name them as follows...
    OracleDataSource1
    OracleDataSource2
    DB2DataSource
    Now, if I configure the three datasources in the oracle standalone OC4J 10g datasource file and deploy the ear file to standalone OC4J 10g, all of the lookups work, and it successfully uses the datasources... no problems at all...
    Ok, so now I try to deploy the ear on OAS 10g using the enterprise manager console, and deployment works fine...
    If I run the app before configuring the datasources, of course the lookups work, but the status routines of certains beans fail because they are not able to look up the datasources... no big deal, just start adding the datasources...
    I configure OracleDataSource1 and rerun... now things still work, the lookups for all the beans works fine, and some pass now, but others still want the other datasources...
    Now configure OracleDataSource2 and rerun... as before, things all work great but there are still complaints looking for the DB2DataSource from a couple of the routines...
    Herein lies the problem...
    I configure DB2DataSource and rerun, and boom, my program crashes claiming that the lookup of the bean failed...
    Now mind you, these beans have all been looked up numerous times during previous runs, and absolutely nothing has been changed with the application... in fact, even the beans that wanted the DB2DataSource were looked up successfully and then just complained of no datasource during their status routine execution...
    It's just that once I configure the DB2DataSource, all of a sudden my lookups don't work... I have tried commenting out a couple of the beans, and regardless of which lookups are commented out, it still fails saying it can't find any of the beans, even if the beans i'm trying to look up don't use the DB2DataSource, it doesn't seem to matter...
    The InitialContext used for the lookup uses the default "new InitialContext()" constructor and the lookups work fine when the DB2DataSource is not configured, but once it is, the lookups fail saying the objects are not found...
    I have consulted with a few other developers here, and noone can seem to understand why this behavior is happening... I have added debugging statements to print the contents of the context's environment, and it is always empty regardless of whether the lookups pass or fail...
    The ONLY difference I can see with this DB2DataSource is that it uses an external 3rd party driver... The oracle connections use a driver which was packaged with the OAS installation... I feel pretty strongly that it has to do with the driver because if I have the DB2DataSource configured (causing the failure) and then I edit that datasource to say that it should us the oracle driver, miraculously it causes the lookups to work again, except now I get the error saying the oracle driver doesn't like my DB2 jdbc url...
    I'm sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping that at least one person has encountered this before... I cannot think of any reason why the configuration of that datasource with the third party driver would cause these problems, especially when the exact same configuration and setup DOES work with standalone OC4J 10g, even with the DB2DataSource configured... ????? And the fact that the lookups work fine until that datasource is configured really blows my mind... i wouldn't think the datasource configuration should have anything to do with whether the lookups of the session beans succeed or not... hahaha...
    Any help would be great... I'm pullin my hair out here... :)
    Thanks,
    -Garrett

    No, I have not asked on the oracle forums yet... :)
    It seems that the cause is the driver itself... if I set a different driver for the datasource configuation, the lookups work but it just complains about the driver not being correct for the individual beans...
    I have found some documentation claiming that there is an OAS version of the DB2 driver, as well as a Merant version, but I can't seem to find jar files for either...
    Does anyone know where I can download the "YMdb2.jar" file? Supposedly this contains the DB2 DataDirect driver that I need...
    Thanks,
    -Garrett

  • Performance with OAS 9i

    Has any body deployed forms, developed in Form6i, on Oracle Application Server 9i.
    Is there any performance improvement with OAS 9i as a new feature 'Form services' has been introduced?
    Is it now suitable for making big web enabled applications?
    Ajay

    You shouldn't need to worry about the installer as it uses the correct jre on it's CD. I just ran it from the kde command line ie: /mnt/cdrom/runInstaller.
    You don't need the database on the same machine, just set up iAS as a client to your database ie: set up TNSNAMES.
    That said, the installation of 9iAS always failed on my RH7 and I've had to crank the install files by hand. 8iAS never seemed to have the problems.

  • Migration from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3

    Hello,
    I migrate large app from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3.
    1.
    The main part of the job was to prepare descriptors for Weblogic. Unfortunatelly I don't find any tool that could do the job:( There are some problems with descriptors namespaces. This schema and namespaces given in 10.3 docs are not working (not available):
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/ejb/DD_defs_reference.html
    So I use the one from 10 release in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml:
    weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">
    and form 9 release in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
    <weblogic-rdbms-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-rdbms20-persistence.xsd">
    There are also some bugs in docs about ejb relations.
    After fixing some schema compliance exc this step success.
    2. Next the EJBComplianceChecker - its much more restrictive than OAS verification. So updates in ejb interfaces are necessary. It is not a problem with small app but when there ale a lot of code/branches to migrate it's become a problem. I have been looking for some switch that could help with this but with no result/
    EJBComplianceChecker - Spec veryfication level
    3. Now after EJB compliance checker done its job with success I have an exception that I do not understand:
    An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
    Exception
    preparing module: EJBModule(corpo_ejb.jar)

    weblogic.ejb.container.ejbc.EJBCompiler.doCompile(EJBCompiler.java:357)
    at
    JDT compilation error!
    Could you please give me some point where the problem could be? I don't have any idea where to start looking for..
    What are your experiences with migrations from OAS to Weblogic 10?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Stoigniew Sztank,
    I am working on migrating Enterpirse application developed using Struts, Ejb2.0, JMS. Its been deployed on OAS 10G and Websphere, but I need to deploy the application on Weblogic 10.3. It seems you have migrated a J2ee application from OAS 10G to Weblogic 10.3. Please can you list me the steps that you followed to migrate the application.
    As per my understanding follwing things needsto be taken care of:-
    1) Weblogic Descriptor files:
    1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
    1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
    1.3 Weblogic-application.xml
    1.4 Resource Adapter
    2) JMS queue set up
    3) JDBC set up
    It would be a great help if you can let me know what are the steps to migrate the application.
    Thanks and Regards

    1) replaced port 80 by 7777 in webcache.xml
    2) added 'Listen 7777' in httpd.conf
    3) restarted opmn
    Following steps done on the second attempt :
    1) replaced port 80 by 7779 in webcache.xml
    2) added 'Listen 7779' in httpd.conf
    3) restarted opmn
    My webcache and webcacheadmin shows down in the opmnctl status.
    Both above attempts were unsuccesful, Please support with a solution to above issue. We are on Windows 2003 R2, OAS 10g r2 (10.1.2.0.2). My webcache has been down for past 3 days and one thing i have noticed is that it is not writing any logs to $ORACLE_HOME\webcache\access_log. Access_log file was way too long when i checked 2 days ago so i moved the access log to a different location and re-created access_log by editing webcache.xml, i dont understand whether existing problem is due to port conflict or it is an issue with webcache unable to write to access_log. The current size of access_log is zero.
    Look forward to your urgent support.
    Thanks

  • Registering Apache 1.3.4 with OAS 407 on RedHat Linux 5.2

    Hi,
    Has anybody tried or succeeded in registering Apache 1.3.4 with
    Oracle Application Server 4.0.7 running on RedHat Linux 5.2?
    We're having trouble registering Apache as an External Web
    Listener for OAS. Applying the correction for step #2 under
    registering Apache servers also hasn't given us any success in
    rebuilding Apache.
    Has anybody encountered the error message below when compiling
    the Apache 1.3.4 to work with OAS after updating the EXTRA_LIBS
    in Apache CONFIGURATION File with the value given on the
    documentation.
    The Error Message

    Hi ,
         First of all please check availability of your OS + DB requiremnts whether it is supported by SAP or not.You can check this at Product Availability Matrix at ::
    http://service.sap.com/pam
         If this support for your environment i.e.RedHat Linux 5.2 with Oracle 10G then be informed that after starting sapinst in step create database it will prompt you for installing your oracle DB. So open a new window & install your databse ,do the patching of your DB & then continue with sapinst after successfull installation of oracle.Rest of details sapinst will prompot you during instal;lation.
        Hope this will guide you for your query.
    Thanks..

    I have an application implemented with jdeveloper 10g (10.1.2) and its need to use other jdbc libraries acording:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2005/05/27/workaroundForDeployingAdf1012AppUsingIntermediaDomainsToOracleAs904.html
    Using EnterpriseManager, i add a java option for the OC4J instance where my ADF 10.1.2-based application will be deployed:
    [b]-Xbootclasspath/p: C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\ojdbc14.jar;C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\orai18n.jar
    but now, ths oc4j instance dont init
    ...my opmn.xml file contains:
    <process-type id="ADF_050615" module-id="OC4J">
    <module-data>
    <category id="start-parameters">
    <data id="java-options" value="-server -Xrs -Djava.security.policy=C:\oracle\infra\j2ee\ADF_050615\config\java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true
                             -Xbootclasspath/p: C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\ojdbc14.jar;C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\orai18n.jar"
                             />
    <data id="oc4j-options" value="-properties"/>
    </category>
    <category id="stop-parameters">
    <data id="java-options" value="-Djava.security.policy=C:\oracle\infra\j2ee\ADF_050615\config\java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true"/>
    </category>
    </module-data>
    </process-type>
    Help me please

    Rigoberto, there should be no space between "-Xbootclasspath/p:" and the path "C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\ojdbc14.jar;C:\oracle\infra\jdbc-10.1.0.4\orai18n.jar"
    By the way, one can always take a look at the logs at
      $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs
    especially those files whose names start with OC4J~ if there is some wrong with oc4j processes. Those files are the default oc4j stout and sterr. If oc4j can not init, there should be some kind of error message in them.
    By the way, the following line may be deleted since no property file is specified.
      <data id="oc4j-options" value="-properties"/>
    Hope this helps.

  • OC4J with OAS Port questions

    We are using Oracle DB and OAS 10g. OAS is installed on a Windows2K server, with the Infrastructure and Portal instances. We created a new OC4J instance in the Infrastructure, and have deployed an EJB application to this instance. The port assigned for RMI access is 3205.
    We are having problems connecting to this port from a remote java client.
    From the local server, I can perform a telnet to localhost:3205. Thus, the service should be accessible. However, from a remote machine, the telnet to server:3250 gets a 'connection refused'. This also occurs from the java client attempting to connect to the server and port. It seems that the port is only accessible from the local server.
    Is this a configuration issue in OAS, or should remote systems be accessing the EJB application through a different port?
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    There's a special lookup prefix you can use when accesing EJBs in an OracleAS installation from remote clients.
    The lookup is of the form opmn:ormi://host/app -- this basically tells the JNDI call to first contact the OPMN service which manages processes in OracleAS to obtain the correct ORMI port for the OC4J process.
    OPMN manages the processes in an OracleAS environment, and dynamically allocates ports so they don't conflict with one-another.
    You can hardcode the ORMI port settings, see:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_04/web.1012/b14012/ormi.htm#i1084416
    But if you let OPMN provide them at runtime, it'll help you in cases where you have more than one OC4J process running on the server as it will avoid the port conflicts for you automatically.
    The J2EE Services Guide has more info about this. See http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_04/web.1012/b14012/ormi.htm#i1085120

  • Generate txt output using a program unit in web report (OAS 10g)

    Hi Everyone.
    I have a c/s report (6i) which generates a txt file in a program unit using TEXT_IO package. I need to move this report to web (Reports 10g) and publishing it in OAS 10g. I've done that (without the text file generation), I can see the report on the browser in PDF Format and works fine... but, I still have a problem... when I use Text_io package, the c/s version of the report in 10g runs an generates the output.txt file but when I move it to web I got an error in the before report trigger (in which I invoke the program unit sp_generate_txt)
    I looked around for a solution and I just find the usage of webutil package, but as you know, webutil package is only usable in Forms.
    Any Ideas on how can I solve this problem?

    Hello,
    TEXT_IO can be used in Reports deployed on the web.
    The difference with Client /Server is the fact that the file create by TEXT_IO will be created on the "Middle Tier Server" and not on the Client.
    Regards
