Big library, little nano

I need to learn the best, step-by-step way to update my 2 GB nano from my library, which is more than 2 GB. Please let me know what my preferences should be set at and how to deal w/ the playlist that's created that says my name and nano. And I don't want to accept the songs that iTunes selects to update (it offers to select my playlist). Please help me figure out the best way to do this. thanks.
  Windows XP

The most convenient way to deal with a library that is larger than your iPod is to sync the iPod to a specific playlist.
1) create a new playlist in iTunes - call it iPod (any name will work)
2) connect the iPod and open the iPod preferences
3) in the iPod preferences select the option 'Sync selected playlists only'
4) in the dialog box, just below that option you'll see, a list of all your playlists. Select iPod and close the preferences dialog box
5) begin dragging songs from your iTunes library into the iPod playlist. Watch at the bottom of the iTunes - iTunes will tell you how much space that playlist is taking up. You should be able to put in about 1.8 GB of songs.
6) once you've filled your playlist, sync the iPod.
Note: you can create more than one playlist for your iPod - say one for morning trip (calmer music) and one for evening trip (louder music) - and choose to sync all of those playlists to the iPod. Also, once the sync is complete, click on the iPod icon in the iTunes list and see how much space you have left. You might be able to squeeze in a couple songs more. Finally, if you get the error message that the playlist is too large, you can remove a couple songs. Also, take a look at the smart playlists. I always create a small playlist of songs I've never listened too and/or songs I've not listened too for a long time. Helps me mix things up a little so my iPod doesn't simply become a top 40's toy.

  • Big Trouble, Little nano

    Hi...can anyone help me?
A friend in another country, liked my iPod nano so much....I got him one, and was going to load it for him, as he may have problems finding a computer to do the job at his location.
The installation disc wouldn't run, because I already have the software for my own nano on this computer.
I thought maybe it would load with the software already on the computer.....and plugged the new nano in.
Now it won't let me disconnect it, and I'm afraid to ruin it by puling the plug.
The Safely Remove Hardware option, keeps telling me it cannot be stopped.
    What do I do?

  • My big library gets Itunes 7 and my whole pc very slow

    Hello,
Since i installed Itunes 7.0.0, i notice that when i launch it, my whole pc is getting very slow. My mouse doesn't move properly.
Il still have the problem with 7.0.1 and 7.0.2...
Then, i thought that i had a big library (nearly 20.000 songs). All my music is inside (all my cds since i am 13 years old !). Maybe it's a problem?
As 20.000 is the number of songs that you can get on an 80GB Ipod, i don't think it should be a problem in Itunes.
I can see Itunes is 95 752 Ko in RAM memory!
Even downloading music i buy and posdcasts from the itunes store is getting very slow
After closing Itunes, my pc gets back its natural speed.
My PC has Windows XP system, 2GB of RAM, AMD AThlon 3700+ (220 Mhz) and frequently formatted and reinstalled.
Help would be much appreciated if you have a solution.
Sorry for my bad english. This is not my native language.

I was trying to solve the same problem on a Mac, and found a slightly different solution. When I tried "Date Modified", I was seeing only the dates when the songs were originally added to my old Mac. So in View Options, i checked the "Date Added" column, which showed me all the duplicates as having been added on the same date. I was able to easily delete these and recover 20gigs of space.

  • Sub Dividing BIG Library into Small Ones..Scared to erase.

I have a single 3tb Library after updating to 10.1
Im trying to now sort into smaller libraries.... Iv created new ones and MOVED Events and Projects into these libraries.
( I TICKED ON ...  Move Proxy and Optimized data.)
Its still saying that the original Library is close to 3tb.?
Im scared to erase this in case its the originall files....
    Ant thoughts.? much appreicated.
    ROB

It is probably there, but you are right to try before you erase stuff!
Close the big library, and use FCP X with only the new libraries open, and make sure everything is there.
As a side note: optimized media is usually what uses most drive space; often you don't need it, and you almost certainly don't need to have both optimized and proxy media at the same time. In your situation, I would have chosen NOT to move (or copy) the optimized and proxy. It can be recreated when - and if - needed.

  • Help: Any one can advice, CVI software is using Big or little endian?

Help: Any one can advice, CVI is using Big or little endian?
or is depend on the processors my HW is using?

The correct answer it the third one: CVI adapts to the hardware architecture you are running on. In the Programmer's Toolbox you have functions to detect the hardware architecture: HostIsBigEndian and HostIsLittleEndian. In the group you have functions to convert data between architectures.

    DB Version : 10.1
We are going across platform, different endianness.
    1. We cannot use CONVERT Database as it is supported only across same platform.
    2. We are planning to use CONVERT Datafile, without transportable tablespace.
    3. Any idea on how much time it would take to copy a 10g File ?
When there is a endian difference, could you please provide a high level successful methodology to use.
We are planning to do an OS cold backup, subsequent restore of the entire database on Target, run convert datafile and synchronizing the data from there on. BTw, we are going from Big to Little Endian.
Can any one provide a estimate on how much time it would take to convert a 10 Gig datafile?
Also once datafile is converted and brought up, can we apply the archivelog’s I am thinking no, but wanted to know your opinion.

    Hi,
I wrote blog post recently about cross platform migration from big to little endian platform:

First part is upgrade process and you can ignore that part - next is migration across platforms.

  • Library too big for my Nano...

So how do I choose the music I want to sync for my Nano? Do I have to make a "Nano" playlist and then just sync that playlist? Is there another way to do it?
    Thanks

If you have more music in your library than will fit on your iPod there are a couple of things you could do. One is yo mange the iPod manually and just drag and drop the content you want to it:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
The other is to use the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists'. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • How to find unauthorised songs in big library?

I've had several apple computers over the years/decades, and more than one iTunes account.  I recently collated all my external back ups of music onto the powerbook to create the "big music library".
The problem is there are lots of songs that were authorised on iTunes accounts and/or computers where I've long forgotten my username, let alone the password. Consequently, I intermittently get an error message that a particular song cannot be played becauce it isn't authorised.
Instead of just randomly discovering these outliers, is there any way to search for unauthorised tunes, pull them into a single list and authorise them once and for all?
    thanks for any assistance :-)

I'm not sure about searching for the songs and putting them in a single list, but you can authorize your computer for all an accounts purchases by going to the Store tab at the top of the screen and pressing authorize computer, then filling in the relevant details for the Apple ID.

  • Big Library:Slow Performance?

I have about 10,000 photos (.jpg ~3MB each) in my Aperture Library. I want to add many more photos but I'm worried about slow performance. My questions:
    1. How big is your library or how big do you think the libraries can get?
    2. Have you noticed slower performance with larger libraries?
    3. Any opinion on breaking up into multiple smaller libraries vs. 1 larger library?

    I am running two libraries,
one for all of my work related imagery, 15,000+ images 50/50 raw & jpegs and
the other for all of my stuff I shoot of sporting clubs, the bit I give back to the community, 18,000+ predominantly jpeg's
both run smoothly, one on the MacPro and the other on the G4 laptop.
Issue starts to be the backing up, if you are thinking it will get BIG, try a library for each client. Could be a good selling point as well, "your imagery is isolated from other clients and has its own dedicated backup".

  • TCP Programming / Why do not need to worry about Big and little Endian?

Please help, I do not understand this concept please explain.
The architecture of a CPU is either little-endian or big-endian; some modern CPU's allow a choice via software.
The TCP/IP protocol standard specifies that all the bytes that make up an item must be sent in "network order", which happends to be big-endian. Intel Pentium CPU's are little-endian.
This implies that on an Intel machine the TCP software will have to chop an int into bytes and then reverse the bytes before transmitting them.
Why does the JAVA TCP software does not need to perform the reversal?
    Thanks,
    Alex

But why would I need to use the DataOutputStream,You don't have to.
But that's what the Java API provides for sending java primitives over a stream. You wouldn't have to use that. You could chop the int into bytes yourself, and send the bytes, and your Java code still wouldn't have to worry about the endiannes of it, because the VMs handle that.
DataOutputStream just does the chopping and reassembling for you, so it's easier than doing it yoursefl.

Java doesn't give you direct access to the individual bytes of a larger data item such as an integer. For this reason you don't have the usual endian problems that occur in C. The actual handling of this is in the DataOutputStream and DataInputStream where the integer is coverted to and from bytes using arithmetic, not by fiddling with the internal structure.
Note that regardless of the machine architecture the operation value%256 will return the low order 8 bits. It's less efficient than assigning an int* to a char*, but it's not fraught with the endian problems or any of the other hardware baggage.

  • File name changes not reflecting in library AND Nano...

When I make changes to songs(title, artist, etc) in my ipod library these changes do not reflect on my nano if those songs are currently on the nano.
For example: if I change a song name in the library, if that same song is on my nano, it will still remain the same and not make the changes itself.
I don't understand b/c on my shuffle, any time I would make a change, whether in my library or on the shuffle, the change would reflect on the other end.
If I name a song 123 in the library and that same song is currently on my Nano as 321 it won't make the change to 123 unless I do it myself again. Once in the library and again on the nano playlist. It seems whenever I make a change it should be the same no matter where the song is located. Is there a way to make the changes show no matter where the song is located ?????????

Well something isn't right. I have my shuffle connected to. They both have the same songs and once I make changes to songs that are on both the nano and shuffle, the shuffle shows those changes but the nano doesn't. The nano doesn't even after I hot the sync button. It's like the files on the nano are totally seperate files and they aren't connected to the library.
    Cliffs:
I have the Nano to manual mode and I'm hitting the sync button but the changes do not take place but the shuffle does. Am I missing something?

  • From Library to Nano

    I have a 30Gb ipod.
Can someone please give me a hint about the reason why i can't transfer music from my Library (iTunes) to my girlfriend's 4Gb Nano?

  • Ipod nano does not sync with itunes library, ipod nano does not sync with itunes library

bought an ipod nano, upgraded Itunes to version 11 running on Windows 8.
My nano is set  up with a different apple ID than my main account, but it won't sync with my Itunes Library, When I plug it in via USB, the IPOD nano icon shows up in Itunes, but when I do File>Devices>Sync,  the Snyc is grayed out.
does the differenct apple ID on the nano have anything to do with the fact that it is different from my Itunes Apple ID, is that causing a problem? Most of the music in my library is uploads from CDs I had already owned, not Itunes purchases.
    Solutions?

Automatic syncing is set up on the iPod's Music tab in iTunes, which is where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.
To use automatic syncing, the checkbox for Sync Music is checked.  Below that, you can choose to sync Entire music library, if it fits on iPod.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.
With the latter choice, you can create a selection of songs to sync to the iPod by selecting (checkmarking) playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres on the Music tab.  For example (if you want to keep it simple), you can create a new playlist in iTunes and add all songs you want on the iPod to that playlist.  Back on the Music tab, checkmark that playlist.  There are many ways to set it up...
When you Apply the change, your selection of songs syncs to the iPod (replacing its existing content). Going forward, any changes in the iTunes Music library that are related to your selection of songs on the Music tab sync automatically to the iPod when you connect it, or when you click Sync.
Therefore, if you create that playlist with songs you want on the iPod, and select it on the iPod's Music tab, you can simply update that playlist in iTunes (add and remove songs) whenever you want, and those changes sync to the iPod automatically at the next opportunity.

  • Syncing library to Nano

When I sync my Nano to my library all the songs download instead of only the songs I've selected (with a check mark). This isn't suppose to happen, correct? How can I resolve this? I want to have a full library and change out my songs as needed and sync. I'm puzzled.
