I have been a happy user of ThinkPads for over 10 years. I wanted something lighter than my T60 (5+ pounds). I couldn't afford a ThinkPad X300 series machine, so I ordered a U330. What a horror! Vista is the disaster everbody says it is. I never figured out whether its insistence that I had a second display connected to it was a hardware or software problem. The nearest monitor was actually in another room, connected to something else. When I tried to set a wired network connection, Vista insisted that I was trying to connect to a DSL service and wouldn't let me connect to my Comcast service via my router and cable modem. I didn't even try to use the wireless. Then there are problems that are undeniably Lenovo's. The ExpressCard connection is directly below the only USB ports. There is no way to connect any ExpressCard that has an external connector, such as a gigabit Ethernet card. It won't fit.
After three days the U330 is in the FedEx on its way back to Lenovo. It will be there on Tuesday. Good riddance. No more IdeaPads - ever. And I will have to rethink my loyalty to ThinkPad when I replace my T60 next year. Maybe I should get a Mac. They are overpriced, but they always work.

I can understand being annoyed about the ExpressCard, but it's hardly fair to lay Vista's shortcomings at Lenovo's feet. ;-)

I was migrating from a 3gs to the 4s. Having never upgraded the IOS before, I thought that I should do that before handed the phone down to my daughter to replace her broken 3g. Big mistake. Even using Google sync for my contacts, following instruction from the Google webpage (ambiguous: cancel or not when error message is displayed?) the contacts did not sync to gmail. iTunes says it will sync contacts, but doesn't from the phone, only from the few that were in my old Gmail account. The iCloud set up asks for email and a new password- not specifying that you should use your old email and password for your old iTunes account or your phone will be instantly locked out of those apps and tunes stored there. The web info says you can't merge accounts or passwords, so, I bet I have to cancel the new set up and start over with the old password if it will even let me. I've spent 8 hrs reading, syncing, et c., on this! It will be a long time before I casually buy a new phone from them! I wonder how much time it will take to switch from the 3GS to the 4S? I now have a 3GS without contacts, no way to get the data from those files back, and can't get the apps to it or the 4S until Apple support helps fix the double identity problem.
Considering that I had verbal instructions from the Apple store prior to the IOS upgrade, reviewed all the details on line, I think this process is woefully lacking in clarity and transparency. The local ATT branch offered nothing except backing up to avoid loss of contacts if both phones were taken to the store, but not any help with the IOS or iTunes content. Cable internet for the 3GS backup and IOS 5 upgrade seemed to take about 2 hours. At least calender, notes, etc. were done correctly and 2500 picture and videos were not removed.

After the last post,I went to the local ATT for some feedback. The manager there, Stephen, was helpful and spent a long time, even after i had gotten the abbreviated list of contacts I had constructed from the 3GS to the 4S by an iTunes sync with the correct options selected. This however, would not sync notes. I took screen pix of my many stock symbols for future reference, and got them to transfer with Bump (as photos, in case I want to refresh my memory on some of the symbols added previously). I emailed myself copies of 28 notes i did not want to lose, because the iCloud back up would not initially work. After what seemed like years, I finally was able to get it working, following repeated refusal to Merge because of "not enough space available" @5GB even though everything was turned off except contacts and calendar.
My old phone is finally backed up to the cloud after I turned off location service on new phone, and a bunch of apps and photo data showed up for the first time, as icons to be turned off on the old phone in the Manage Storage window. It said it was going to back up 8 GB of photos when the photo backup had been turned off on the prior screen. (The screws are loose, and the worm has turned on this software at Apple.)
Backup for notes, a few contacts, and calendar, over high speed wifi, took 25 minutes to complete without photos.
I have never seen anything this troublesome in the Apple OS!
You will need to set your own Apple ID and a .me email ID if you want to use the cloud. My recommendation and that of the store manager for the first time is don't back up any photos, let it erase the photo stream if it wants to. The camera roll should be ok.
Backing up to the iCloud removed all my stocks from the old phone! It wasn't supposed to. Be sure to select leave data on phone at every opportunity- even so, there they went. It did not remove contacts or calendar when backing up, though the IOS 5 upgrade had lost my years of contacts since I had not specified that they should be saved when I hit the simple sync in iTunes the first time and since Googlesync failed to connect properly for me over wifi as noted above.
All in all it appears nothing is going to clone your phone or preserve all the data through a IOS 4.x to 5 migration, though I did not do it right the first time with iTunes, and complicated matters by starting with a new ID instead of my old iTunes account and password, living in a small town, away from any Apple store, though if you can't be there at an Apple store with both phones in hand, they probably can't help much unless they walk you through each option in iTunes and you are very attentive. The store genius I saw did not do this, though I had yet to order the phone at that point.

I've just bought an iPhone 5S in the UK, seems like a big mistake, but luckily by law we can return goods, which is exactly what is going to happen if I cant get this to work. This is my business phone, not having it functional can cost me money.

I'm happy you figured it out and just try to keep in mind that not everyone you talk to at support will give the same advice or have the same knowledge. Just like those who contribute to these forums. Sometimes Google is your best friend.
I agree that Apple could probably make it easier, but as of yet prefer security over freedom. (sound famaliar?)

wjosten is spot on. If you really want iCloud, then you will need to acquire a new or second hand MBP that can run Lion.

A computer requires authorisation to play content. If you have bought content using 2 Apple IDs over the years you need to authorise the machine for both Apple ID accounts.

Firstly, the icons when you load safari are your bookmarks in the favourite section. To remove them you can simply either delete them or move them to another bookmark folder. To access your bookmarks tap the blue book in the top right corner and then go through to bookmarks and select and edit from there, goodluck :)

Flash 10.1 Intel-only for macs BIG MISTAKE!

As the title says: BIG MISTAKE if Adobe wants Flash to continue widespread adoption going forward. Intel-only mac support will lock out a LOT of schools and students from accessing any content produced for 10.1.
Adobe, please re-consider. Accessing the www should not require steep system requirements. HD video and 3D stuff... that's understandable. But otherwise, to up the requirements so much (in comparison to 10.0) is to hobble many internet users.

Glad to know Adobe is keeping compatibility with older computers in mind. (HD aside, my G5 has plenty of oomph here yet)

I need your help...I made a very big mistake!

I really need your help. A friend of mine has an iPod Nano and when I was helping him out on his PC, I accidentally spelled his last name wrong. As in, instead of Smith, I typed Smyth. Anyway, how do I remove that mistake in his iTunes and iPod? It's showing up as the wrong last name! I deleted the wrong name from every registry entry and also uninstalled iTunes and the reset the iPod. He said he resynched the other day and the wrong name came back. How can that be? How do I get rid of this BIG mistake on his Dell PC and iPod while not having it happen again? I'm never hearing the end of it now and so, I come to you for help. Thanks so much! Debbie

Big mistake...renamed disk image on desktop...

Yup. I just can't leave well enough alone. I set up time capsule with little trouble and it ran for 3 weeks. Then, like a jerk, I renamed this little disk image on my desktop. Couldn't remember it being there before...so I just renamed it and tried to throw it away!
BIG MISTAKE.
Now time machine says it failed and is now unable to mount the backup.
So I just "entered the time machine" and then exited. No big deal.
BUT...
After that, any attempt to backup leads to a total crash requiring a restart.
Is anybody as dumb as me? Without admitting dumbness, is anybody willing to offer a solution? or should I just start all over again?

No MLB At Bat 13 on Bold - Big Mistake!

All of us baseball fans would like the MLB At Bat 13 available to BB users other than the few who have the new BB10. Keep in mind that many of the current BB users are on the fence about even getting a BB10 and not extending the MLB application to all the other BB users who have enjoyed this app in the past is a big mistake and one you need to fix. I highly recommend making the At Bat 13 app avaiable to all BB users. All other baseball fans that feel the way I do need to make some noise! I've seen a couple of posts on this issue but no response from BB. So how about it BB? What's the deal.

The main reason I switched to Blackberry and purchased my Bold was to be able to listen and follow baseball with MLB At Bat. The Bold is a great phone and have been happy with it. However, no longer having access to At Bat is forcing me to buy a new phone. The uncertainty that At Bat will be supported by BB Z10 in a couple of years, like the Bold, means I won't even consider staying with Blackberry. Don't know if this is BB and/or MLB cutting current BB users off but I agree that it needs to be fixed.

Asus Q400a Discontinued -- BIG MISTAKE

Best Buy has made a big mistake gutting the Asus Q400a. Its newer siblings are in no way comparable. For $650, a quad core i7, 8 GB of ram, a backlit keyboard, and a 750 GB HHD were increadible benefits. Its newer siblings are larger and far more expensive. Not to mention the Q400 was a sturdy laptop.
It's a real shame. I ended up buying the laptop from Tiger Direct, refurbished. Am awaiting its shipment. Too bad Best Buy lost a GSP sale.

I got a big mistake when i installed PIM upgrade for my tungsten E2 while it only support for tungsten E.
after installing the PIM update. It's required restart. I restarted and it didn't start up. It displayed the palm logo after 5 seconds and turned off and on and off...
I confused. My contacts still in there. How can I recove my contacts or it will go.

At this point it looks like your device is in a looping reset because of the incompatible app.
Try the system/warm reset in the following link to see if you can stop the looping.
Click on the following link to the kb.palm.com webpage for the article regarding reset procedure.

If you can get the device to stop looping, try a hotsync and see if you can get your data backed up.
After the sync, you will need to do the following in order to remove the incompatible app. from the sync'ing process.
Hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old
Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista

folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

If the above steps don't resolve your issue, you will need to hard reset.
You can try a hard reset to resolve the issue. The hard reset will erase all data on the device.
