BIG nano connection problem

I got my iPod Nano delivered today & after it finished charging I installed the software that is on the CD.
My problem is that when i connect my Nano using the USB cable it doesn't show that it is connected in iTunes or My Computer or the iPod for Windows software update which means I can't choose to restore the Nano but my PC does make a ringing-type noise everytime i connect it.
What is the problem with it? When you install the software do you have to format the iPod? Because when it says to connect it to check if it does need formatting nothing happens so i clieck on the box to not check & carry on to install the software & have my songs added to the iTunes library. I have done this 2 or 3 times but still can't find out how to make my Nano connected so i can finally download my songs onto it!
I remember when i first connected the iPod a Windows message popped up saying 'found new device ipod' & said connect to internet to find updates for it to which i clicked on no. Then when i tried again later it said 'found new device Mass USB Device' & this time i clicked on the Windows message to find updates & it said something like aborted could not be done.
Can you please help me with this? I'm only 16 & have saved up for this & don't want it to be a waste of money!
Thanks hope this makes sense because I'm really tired!

I recieved my ipod nano and for 2 glorious days it worked. Then my pc could no longer detect it, it just said "malfunctioned usb device" and didnot appear in itunes. The Nano just has the menu as opposed to the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" screen
After a long and arduous day i managed to fix the problem.
By clicking on this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 it tells you how to fix it.
i just did this - (with the ipod connected to the pc)
1) turn hold on, and then off,
2)then press menu and the center select button simultaiously for 6 seconds
3)the apple logo appears
4)then it goes back to the menu briefly, and then goes to the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" screen
5)open itunes, wait a minute and your nano will appear
Wahooooo!
hope this helps everyone!

  • Nano Connecting Problems

I have tried everything.... re installing itunes software, resetting my nano, waiting for the battery to be what i think is totally charged. Itunes does not recognize my nano. i am rather knowledgeable with computers but i am totally stumped and have no clue what to do anymore. i check it through itunes and it says there is not ipod connected. but whenever i restart my computer it says "do not disconnect" so i know it is working through my USB 2.0 port. i cannot even tell if my battery is charging because that lightning bolt inside a battery only appears for awhile and it stops flashing green and gray after about 10 min. so is my nano even charging all the way? reseting my ipod did not work as for trying to get it to show up on itunes so i really have no clue what to do. i am operating on Windows XP. and when i try to reinstall itunes it does not recognize my ipod to see if it needs to be formatted

I too have the same problem. The first time (actually a couple of times) it has worked beautifully, but now it doesn't. I plug it in, it says do not disconnect, and then, after a few seconds, just goes to the main option screen on the nano, and then to the charging screen. If i close itunes and then reopen itunes, "do not disconnect reappears on my ipod but it just does the same thing over again. So, itunes is obviously reading my ipod, since it says do not disconnect when i turn it on, but if i go to file menu, update ipod is not an option. WHAT IS GOING ON!!! I did reinstall itunes and it worked once, but i'm back to the same problem all over again. I don't exactly feel like reinstalling everytime i want to update my ipod.
Is there any help out there???

  • Nano Connection Problem (1st Gen)

Hey, everything was going well, then suddenly my iPod nano was no longer recognized by my computer. It is not recognized by iTunes or Windows. When I plug it into my computer USB, nothing happens. It doesnt even start to charge. I have to plug it into my addapter to charge it. I also tried plugging it into a different computer and same thing...not recognized. I followed the 5 Rs and such other steps but nothing helped. Can someone please help? Any option suggestions? (It has been under 1 year since i bought my iPod but i lost me receit )
    Thanks

Have you tried resetting the Nano will it still connected to your PC running Vista? Didn't the 6G Nano come with it's own cable?  If so, try using that one.  Of course, the iPod Classic sync cable should work just fine, but it's just a bit of troubleshooting, so try it if you can.
Otherwise, also try shutting down your PC completely, booting it back up, opening iTunes, and then connecting your iPod Nano.  Any luck there?

  • Ipod nano Connection problems

    Hi,
Whenever I Connect my Ipod nano It won't stop displaying the do not dissconect sign. What am I doing wrong?

Ben, it will always display the Do Not Disconnect message until you eject it if you've chosen either of these options:
    1. Manual updating of songs and playlists
    2. Automatic updating with Enable Disk Use checked.
If either option is chosen, you'll need to manually eject your iPod using the icon in the lower right-hand corner of iTunes.

  • Found solution for connection problems iPod Nano 3rd gen to Windows Vista!!

    Hello people!
I just found a solution to connection problems with iPod Nano 3rd generation when connecting it to a Windows Vista machine.
Because of 'security reasons', Vista asks you to check the drive for errors when connecting the iPod.
    The thing to do here:
Click the cross to exit the windows; DON'T CLICK 'do not check drive'!!!!
So just click the red cross to close the window and the iPod should be recognized by iTunes.
    Symptoms:
    - iPod cannot be recognized by iTunes when you connect it.
    - iPod doesn't show up as a drive in Windows Explorer.
I really really hope I solved your problem. Have fun!
    Jasper

Have not been able to connect to iTunes for months, right about the time Microsoft put out the Zune! Would love to hear from a lawyer about a class action lawsuit againat Apple since this issue has not been resolved and we are required to use iTunes. In the meantime, filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission!

  • WiFi Internet connectivity problems after upgrade to 10.8.4

After upgrading to MacOS 10.8.4 I am facing regular interruptions to my WiFi internet connectivity. Periodically the internet connectivity is lost and the only way to fix the problem is to turn WiFi off and on again. This happens frequently when I am downloading files at using big bandwidth (more than 1.5-2 MB/s). If I use assist me on the Network preferences tab, it displays an ISP error when the connectivity is down, however I am certain that I do nota have any kind of ISP or router issue since at the same time I have WiFi internet connectivity from my iPad mini, iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3. Therefore it should be a 10.8.4 issue

  • Booting Win2k w/nano connected disabled ps/2 mouse

I recently purchased a 4gb nano and installed the software that came on the CD as well as downloaded the latest iTunes.
My problem is that if I have the nano connected via USB when I boot my computer, my ps/2 mouse is not detected. I must disconnect the nano and reboot my computer in order to be able to use the mouse again.

What does it mean: " use both keyboard & mouse"? I can use them, everything is fine, but the boot..
And I have this bug for ages. I know an other guy who has this error. So I think this is a bug in this type of mobo, not an error in mine.

  • Windows won't start with Nano connected

My computer won't startup or restart with the nano connected to the USB port. It just hangs on the startup screen. I have to disconnect the nano and do a hard power off and then power up again then connect the nano after computer is started. Everything works OK then. Is this normal? Using Dell 8500 laptop with XP Pro sp 2.

I have the same (or similar) problem with an iPod Video 30GB, and have found a solution. It is not a boot order problem. I've just posted the following as feedback to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93953
There is also another reason why a PC may not start with an iPod connected. It is also related to USB, but is a different problem, and there are different work-arounds available.
Problem: PC will not POST or boot with iPod connected to a USB port
    Description:
With an iPod connected to any USB port, the PC will not pass power-on self test (POST), and does not attempt to boot. It remains completely unresponsive to anything except a hard power-off; in particular it is impossible to reach the BIOS configuration screen. This is not a problem with the boot order: the internal disk is first in the boot order, and in any case, POST is not passed and so booting is not attempted.
With the iPod disconnected, the PC boots normally, and if the iPod is plugged in later, the iPod and iTunes function normally.
    Solution: either:
    1. Disable "USB legacy mouse support" and "USB keyboard and legacy support" in BIOS. Disabling legacy USB mouse support stops a USB mouse being used by BIOS and DOS programs, which is not usually a problem. Disabling "USB keyboard and legacy support" will prevent a USB keyboard from being used at all, which is a potentially serious problem.
    2. Boot with the iPod disconnected.
System details: a PC based on the ASUS A7N8X v2.0 motherboard running BIOS version 1008. It has a USB mouse, PS/2-compatible keyboard, and a USB-connected printer and scanner as well as the iPod.
    Comments:
This is not necessarily a bug with the iPod, but may be. There are three possibilities:
    1. There is a bug with the BIOS implementation of USB keyboard and mouse support
    2. There is a bug with the way the iPod responds when the BIOS is looking for USB keyboards and mice.
    3. There is a bug in the USB spec itself.

  • Nano connects and disconnects

    Hi
My nano connects ok but after 10 seconds from connecting, it disconnects. I have tried formatting, factory sets and stuff, but no luck. After it disappears from My Computer, it still shows on the itunes, but the songs dont transfer.

order? in other words have you used your USB port for another USB device with no problem before?
maybe ( just a guess your USB port is wonky.
On one of my computers the port on the front doesn't fully work but the ones on the back do work fine.
    suggestions:
~ try a different USB port IF you have multiple ports.
~try another USB device ( like an external drive or card reader) IF YOU HAVE ONE on the suspect USB port and see if it works.
~ re-seat your USB cable --(remove it and plug it in firmly)
    good luck, BobF

  • Possible design flaw in Nike+iPod kit causes connection problem

I've been having some similar receiver/sensor connection problems as documented on these forums. Here's a page and video that diagnoses the problem as being a possible contact connection issue. Try squeezing your Nano to see if it makes contact. I'll try mine when I get home.

I think you meant you have the iPod nano software, version 1.2. iTunes 1.2 will definitely not work. 6.0.5 is the current version of iTunes The iPod options appear after plugging in your iPod, then choosing preferences in iTunes (or clicking the little iPod icon in the bottom right of the iTunes window). Nike + iPod prefs are in there too.

  • IPod nano connection probs / gotta format every time / iTunes erases songs?

    Hi there,
I got a 1GB nano just about a week ago and I keep having connection problems (I'm using an Acer TravelMate Laptop running Win XP).
I have to format the nano, un- and re-install iTunes + the iPod Updater and and restore my iPod EVERY TIME I want to upload some songs. So the formatting etc. solves the problem only temporarily. If I try to update the songs on my iPod after some days, iTunes seems to erase everything and I have to go through the whole procedure again. This is so annoying!! Can anyone help?
    iPod nano 1GB Windows XP

First, make sure you are running the latest versions of your OS. You should be running the latest service pack for whatever version of windows you are running. Here are the basic system requirements as stated in the Apple store:
    Mac Requirements
    USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
    iTunes 8 or later
Internet connection (broadband recommended; fees may apply)
    iTunes Store account
    PC Requirements
    USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3 or later)
    iTunes 8 or later
Internet connection (broadband recommended; fees may apply)
    iTunes Store account
Second, start the process with the iPod connected directly to the system, not through a USB hub. See if this changes things for you.
Also make sure you have gone through the basic troubleshooting as stated here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano/
If problems persist, it may be the installation of iTunes that is causing trouble. Uninstalling iTunes and re-installing could clear things up. Here is a link to instructions on removing iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Of course, start with the easy things first and work from there. Hope this gets you running smoothly.

  • Connection problems / contact problems

I have a big connection problems , it lasts longer than a week and getting me frustrated because I'm paying around £400 per year for my broadband. I tried to call sky service but no one answers and I have only moblie phone pay as you go, which costs me a lot of money also a lot of time because I have problem to contact you online as well because of online issues (Disconnecting me every 5-10 minutes today). I'm a gamer so being constantly connected is very important to me because I played online games and constantly throws me out of the game which is really, really annoying. as well as I can not get contact with anyone to get this fix.  Any ideas what to do? The best is call I know but I already spent too much money to try phone sky, no one give me back that money, just enough I'm paying  for services that I do not have at them moment.

    Hey mate,
I too am having problems with game lag on Sky at the moment. I believe something must be happening with Sky as their online chat is 24/7 busy and a lot of people are experiencing slow connections. I believe you can request a callback on the sky app?

  • Timeouts and connection problems after 5.1(2) upgrade

AIM/chat and some other programs are having timeout/connection problems after upgrade to 5.1(2). I am using S241 also. The connection problems stopped when the IPS was set to bypass. Rebuilt IPS and left sigs at default settings and problem is still happening. I am not seeing any of the IPs that are having the problem in the Event Viewer or on the Events in the IDM.
Any known issues with the 5.1(2) that would cause this type of problem?

I don't know specifically, but I did notice that 5.1(3) was released today.
