Big Preview thumbnail have no info, labels, ratings

I  contacted Adobe tech help because my CS4 Bridge thumbnails stopped reflecting the camera raw changes such as cropping and exposure, brightness etc.  They used the shotgun approach of resetting everything and then I immediately noticed new problems that they claimed would have to be individually paid for.
While the thumbs in Bridge Essentials, show file name, color label and ratings, when I go to Big Preview, the thumbs at the left are images only and I can find no setting to change this.
Also the Bridge Tools menu that had a "Photoshop" choice, with its submenus such as Batch, all disappeared. I was told by the tech that this was default also.
The side panels on either side of the thumbnails changed to a background of while and I am sure that this was not the default when I installed CS4, and never changed.  This is relatively unimportant, and when I reopened Bridge with Control and checked the options, I regained the Photoshop menu, but my Big Preview thumbs are still images only.
The whole way Adobe dealt with this was highly upsetting, saying that these changes are all defaults, requiring payment for each to solve.  I know that I can use the thumbnail preferences to add date, size etc., but this is something different.

If you have Quick Thumbnails it will not reflect any edits in the thumbnail.  You have to have one of the HQ thumb options to see them.
Not sure what you mean by Bridge Essentials and Big Preview, but I am using CS3.
To restore the Photoshop choice go to edit/preferences/startup scripte.  You need a check mark in Bridge and Photoshop so they can talk.

  • Preview Thumbnails not displaying...

I am working with CS3 Bridge 1.0.0.545, running OS 10.4.11 on an iMac
Whenever I launch Bridge, I get an error message telling me that there is a problem with the database, and "......" was not updated correctly. This may affect searches (see attachment Picture 10).
I have no choice but to click OK, and then I am unable to see any preview thumbnails. All folders appearing in the left panel are displaying as though they are empty, even though they contain files.  (see attachment Picture 16)
So I am always told that there are no items to display.
These same files display perfectly in Bridge CS3, on my computer at the office....
This is getting very frustrating....Any suggestions?

I am working with CS2 Bridge (not CS3), and the version number is as I typed the first time (1.0.0.545)
That version of Bridge is known to damage and even disappear files.  Update to to Bridge 1.0.4.6 ASAP.  It's a free update.
While you're at it, make sure you have updated to Photoshop 9.0.2.
Once you have updated, you will need to Purge the Cache through the Tools menu in Bridge.

  • Bridge CS3- Labels & Ratings disappear after processed in Noiseware (was okay in Bridge CS)

Okay, I guess I should count my blessings that this is about the only annoying, recurring problem I've had with Bridge CS3, unlike the crashes that others are dealing with.
Windows XP w/ core 2 6600 2.4GHZ, 3GB ram. A large percentage of my 300GB hard drive is used but that was the case when I used to run Bridge CS. Software- Adobe CS3 Web Suite
Whenever I run a file through Noiseware (Stand alone version) I lose all labels and ratings. This did not happen with Bridge CS version. Anyone experiencing the same? I am always referring back to my ratings and labels so it's a major problem to lose them. Only thing I can do for now is save it with a new file name and then re-rate & label the newly processed file to match the original, but when you are dealing with dozens, if not 100's of files, 2 extra steps is a lot of wasted time!
Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks curt. I had that problem way back when I first upgraded and it had something to do with renaming files. I fixed that but I still cannot fix this conflict with noiseware software. It blows...to lose all my labels & ratings everytime I have to use the noiseware.
I wish ADOBE would help!?!?!? Where are you guys? Seems like once you purchase the software, we're just on our own!

  • Image preview (thumbnail) help request

I'm a recent convert from PC to the new imac *LOVE IT!* However, I'm very accustomed to the beautiful little option in windows to preview thumbnails of image files within their folders, WITHOUT opening them in a program to view them... this does not seem possible in OSX. Is there another program I can get to help with this... er something. I'm a digital artist, and I have MANY resources files (i.e. textures, vector files, etc.). I need to be able to preview what they are without having to open 8,000 images in another program just to find the ONE that I need.
    * iphoto is NOT the answer to this. It does not read my .psd or .ai files properly to preview. *
    PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!
    Thanks,
    Charli

Sorry to tag in, but I have wreid question hope you can help:
This is post on this forums on Oct-05-2007, but nobody since has any suggestion.
    I have the following:
    A. MBP is Intel base Core 2 Due.
    B. All the software version are the most updated.
    C. Canon IDsMKII, with all Canon software up to date on July-2007.
    D. PS3, il3.
    E. No other image program.
My old iMac is ok to copy Canon Raw file directly from the CF card and have correct thumbnail orientation. But not now anymore!
Before Aug 2007, not exact date, I import, download or copy from the CF card with following method to my new MBP:
    1. Copy direct from the CF card, which don't have the correct orientation thumdnail.
    2. So I use Canon's CameraWindow to import the RAW file, which can creata correct orientation thumbnail. Also have a very tiny preview icon in the colume list.
    3. But this couple days all the Raw file for JPG that I put in the MBP only have landscape thumbnail. The previous import file still OK with correct thumbnail orientation.
    4. For JPG, I need to open and save by PS3 without modify then it will have correct orientation thumbnail. But no luck for Raw file.
I tried to re-boot the MBP with hold down the apple + control + P + R as suggested by Apple to clear up whatever in the memory. But no luck.
However, any file that I stored in NAS that was copied previously with correct orientation thumbnail will have the following effect:
    1. I copy them back from NAS to MBP's desktop then the thumbnail will become landscape.
    2. If I move them from the desktop to a folder, then the thumbnail will back to their correct orientation. Then I move it back to desktop, it shows correct.
So I think, somehow the update OS 10.4... do not read the data from the Raw file.
    Any comment.

  • Image previews thumbnails don't generate.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help: even though I have set my preferences in PS to "always generate preview thumbnails", I will open a window (Mac OS 10.10.2 and earlier - I've had this problem for years now) and see the generic icon for a tiff rather than a preview of my image.  Occasionally moving the slider to preview the icons larger or smaller will spark the finder to show the previews, as will occasionally opening a single image.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

  • IPhoto: strange behaviour with preview thumbnails

Is there a simple way in iPhoto 8 to rebuild the thumbnail database?
I recently noticed a strange behaviour iPhoto 8 has with previews: In some of my event categories, iPhoto does not display the correct preview thumbnail of the picture, but a preview thumbnail of another event. When I click on the thumbnail, it reloads the appropriate preview and it does not happen again - with that picture. Also, if I double click an event to open it, the small thumbnail of the event's key photo that is to be displayed in the title bar (next to the All Events button) is not always correct.
    Thank you for your help!
    Stefan

I have similar problems (lately) with iPhoto 6.0.6 -- thumbnails do not equal the images they 'thumbnail' of.
Sometimes when it opens, it (recently) asked me to rebuild the thumbnails, but not always.
Can I force a thumbnail rebuild using the command you gave - Apple-option while opening iPhoto? In iPhoto 6.0.6 this primarily forces a new selection of a library.

  • Preview thumbnails (CR2) does not show in import dialog box

When I import files from my camera ("Import photos from device..."), i don't see preview thumbnails of CR2-files so that I can choose which pictures to import. I can only see gray boxes. JPG thumbnails show.
I tried to download and install the Canon RAW codecs for Vista  (http://www.canon-europe.com/vista/eos/raw_codec/), but it didn't help.
Appreciate all help with this problem.
    Nils Öhman
    Equipment:
    Canon EOS 400D
    Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.4
    Windows Vista SP2, Swedish version
    HP EliteBook 8530w

the RAW Codecs for Vista have no effect on Lightroom which should handle and preview files from a 400D without any issues . There may be a problem caused by the fact that you are downloading via your camera rather than from the card. I would suggest using a card reader rather than downloading from your camera.

  • Is it too late to modify preview thumbnails once beforeSave event fires?

    My goal:
I need to show non-printing layers in my .indd files' preview thumbnails. We produce print jobs which will have post processing applied to them (thermography and cutouts glued to the printed cardstock). Our .indd files have layers containing these post production images so that we can determine proper alignment and spacing for the end product.
These are graphics are placed in non-printing layers so that they do not print. However InDesign generates preview thumbnails which do not contain these non-printing images. This is a problem for us because we can not tell the nuanced difference between similar indd files soley by their preview images.
Therefore my goal is to somehow include these non-printing layers in the image preview thumbnail.
What I have done thus far:
I have a startup script which registers for the beforeSave and afterSave events. Before the same it marks all the non-printing layers are printable (printable property = true). Then the afterSave event undoes this by setting those layers back to non-printable. I track which layer was originally non-printing by adding a moniker to the layer's name.
    What is not working:
When I run a script that marks the layers as printable, saves then undoes the printable changes everything works perfectly. The preview thumbnail is exactly what I want.
However, when I run it as a startup script registering for the beforeSave/afterSave events this fails:
Success: The beforeSave does correctly update the printable property then modifies the layer's name. This is as expected and working well.
Success:The afterSave does correctly reset the printable property and modified the layer's name. This is as expected and working well.
Failure: The file's preview thumbnail does not reflect the printable=true peroperty of the affected layers.
    My Question:
From what I outline above it looks as if the preview image is determined before the beforeSave event fires.
    Question 1: Is this true?
Question 2: How can I affect the layers' printable properties once a save occurs?
As a last resort I could intercept any CTRL+S keystroke or the File-->Save menu option and call my original script (as I describe above). I would like to avoid that as it is fragile and less elegant.
Follow question: Can anyone show me what the actual work flows are for these events? For example what does InDesign do during its save function and at what points does it trigger beforeSave and afterSave events?

I also tried a different approach which worked:
Added two event listeners to the "Save" MenuAction object. One for "beforeInvoke" and one for "afterInvoke". This worked and I now have correctly rendered preview thumbnails. However .....
....when the afterInvoke event fires and I update the layers to reflect their non-printing state and change their names back to normal this is reflected as if I have made alterations. Therefore the file is left in a "dirty" state thus wanting to be saved (the document's title has an * indicating changes were made). The document's "modified" property is read only so I can not forcibly change it. I can change set the Document.properties['modified'] to false without error, but either it does not take or it is instantly reset.
This is a problem because when I exit the app it sees that there have been changes since the last save. Therefore it wants to save the doc. Saying "yes" to save the doc means that the "save" function is called but not from the Save menu. Therefore my MenuAction handers are not invoked. My beforeSave/afterSave handlers are but this does not function as I would expect (see my original post).
Can someone please help with this? Maybe some kind soul from Adobe who understands the event firing workflow??

  • Preview Thumbnails on New Tab page empty only for certain URLs

When I open a new tab, there are three certain preview thumbnails which are always empty, and there is no way I can make them show up again. They did work in the beginning, but at some time the three previews vanished and never came back.
I have already tried to empy the cache and reload the sites as suggested here, but the thumbs are still empty. It's always the same three URLs where this happens. I have also cleared the history, opened the sites again and dragged the items from the history menu into a thumbnail - same result.

The pages may be send by the server with a no-cache or no-store header preventing Firefox to store that pages in the cache.<br />
Firefox will only generate thumbnails if the page is in the cache.
The thumbnails on the about:newtab page are generated from the cache, so if the page is not in the cache or otherwise can't or won't (secure pages) be rendered as a PNG image then you will get an empty box.
*Do not use Clear Recent History to clear data like the cache and the history when you close Firefox
If there is no history then you get an about:newtab page with empty boxes (no URLs).
*[https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=756881 bug 756881] - New tab thumbnails not displayed (or old images displayed) for Facebook, Twitter (sites using Cache-Control no-store)

  • LR 4 on Windows 8 - Cannot create preview thumbnail when exporting?

I thought I had this figured out but it appears to occur somewhat randomly. Since upgrading to Windows 8 when I export files that I have imported from Canon raw .CR2 for some files it gives an error that "the file could not be written" and lists the original source .CR2 file name. It does not do it everytime but once it happens it happens everytime for that file. When exporting 10 JPG files for example only 3 of them may have this issue. The file still exports and creates the JPG file and the only issue with the exported file appears to be that it did not create the preview thumbnail.
I have tried importing the files into new catalogs, writing to different folders etc but it still happens. Any ideas?

Ok, after lots of attempts to recreate I can do it like this:
Export as JPG to hard drive and select 'limit file size' option and give any size smaller than the full 100% quality JPG would normally create. Using any other options to limit file size such as quality < 100 or resize long edge to 1024 completes successfully.
Can someone else confirm this on Windows 8 with LR 4.2, it only takes a single file?

  • Preview Thumbnails not updating.

My normal way of processing photos is to preview a folder in Bridge, from Bridge open a photo in camera raw and process it there. If I'm not using that image immediately, I simply close it when I'm finished processing. Then I'm back in Preview mode in Bridge and I can see the photograph that I processed and the changes that were made. I've been processing photos from several cameras this way for years.
However, I'm using a new camera system. Lumix GH3. When I preview and process photos from this camera, the thumbnails are never updated with the processed image. They always show the original one. Even if I close that folder and reopen it in Bridge, I still don't have a preview of the processed images. If I reopen the photo in Camera Raw or Photoshop, sure enough, I can see the changes, the photo IS processed. But those changes never show up in the preview thumbnails.
At first I thought this was the particular SD card, which was new to me and supplied by the camera store where I purchased the Lumix. But I've tried several now, all with the same result.
    Any ideas??
    Macbook Pro, OS 10.8.3. Bridge CS6 v5.0.1.21, Photoshop CS6, v13.0.3 x 64.

    Any ideas??
    Macbook Pro, OS 10.8.3. Bridge CS6 v5.0.1.21, Photoshop CS6, v13.0.3 x 64.
It might be cache related, for test select one of the files that did not show the updated changes and with right click mouse menu choose purge cache for selection.
But a second thought is that you don't use the latest updates for both Bridge (should be 5.0.2.4) and PS (should be 13.1.2) and this causes the troubled behavior.
And it might be the combination of both

  • Dock / Stacks doesn't build preview thumbnails

Sometimes (totally random, impossible to reproduce) on computer startup, the Dock doesn't build the preview thumbnails for the items stored in the Stacks (Documents and Downloads stacks). There are very few items in there: few folders with no special icons in Documents and 2 files; both files are the standard PDF files (About Stacks.pdf and About Downloads.pdf), there are no additional files that might require or use a 3rd party preview plugin.
The dock is located on the right side of the screen (obviously, vertical position), maximization effect is enabled. If the preview is not built, I only get the standard pdf icon.
A fix is to restart the Dock (killall -HUP Dock), that makes the Dock rebuild the preview thumbnails.
Once the bug is 'started' (at least one thumbnail isn't rebuilt), it keeps behaving like this all the time (all restarts), but the issue applies to different thumbnails.
Is this a known bug or am I the only one affected? I don't seem to find any other relevant topics in here.

Hi and welcome to  Discussions,
I have the same problem from time to time and it's also absolutely random which icons get a preview and which don't. I believe it's more likely to happen when you click on the folders right after a reboot, but this could just be coincidence. You're not alone and this is simply a bug, I think.

    Please help

Folders all of a sudden have their file name written across the folder instead
of under it. And some folder won't even display the folders name.
Have seen it before but forgot what it was about. Be sure to have the latest
    update for Bridge (4.0.4.2).
Then check if you don't have the view thumbnails only option set in the view
menu. Use the refresh button (F5) and if still in trouble go to the menu
    tools/cache/purge cache for folder.
I think this will do the trick for you, if not restart Bridge holding down
option key and choose reset preferences.
