Big problem -- failed drive, trying to recapture w/out handles

Have 11 hours of footage in a project which is halfway done. Drive went south. I have a copy of the project and need to recapture the footage.
Problem is: when I originally captured, I just started playing the tape and clicked "capture now" and captured the full tape.
Now when I go in and try to batch capture the offline footage, it tries to roll back to a point before I started capturing previously -- only there isn't enough timecode to roll back as far as it wants, and so it just sits there, stalling.
Is there a way to recapture this footage so that I can use it as the offline footage and not have to start the project over??
Naturally, I'm under the gun and have to deliver this project very fast. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

OK, I am speaking from experience here, so I hope you get this message before you go and do the other stuff. (I'm not in front of my Mac right now, so some of the terminology might not be 100% correct.)
1. In your log bin, make a note of all the clip names, the reels they belong to, and the start and end timecodes. Presumably your clip names haven't been changed from the original names you selected at capture. (Presumably also, you have given each reel a new original reel number. If not, change them now in the bin, before you recapture.)
2. Go ahead and Capture Now as per this list - keep the names EXACTLY the same, but don't worry if the start timecodes are not exactly the same.
3. In the Log Bin, select all the OLD clips (the "Media Not Found" ones with the red stripe thru them. Right-click (Option-click) on one of them and select "Reconnect Media".
4. Click on "search"(or "find" - I can't remember) so the system finds the NEW clips on the new drive. You should have a check mark in the box marked something like "Find all associated clips in path".
5. You will get an error message - something about different lengths, don't worry, click OK.
6. You will get another message about adjusting the ends. Don't worry, just go ahead.
7. Now play your project - it should all be back the way it was.

  • Failed Drive: Trying to install New Drive in 7 Disk Array

We are set up on an Xserve RAID with 1-7 (250G, RAID 5) as one array, and 8-10 (400G, RAID 5) as as second array. In our first array of seven, drive 6 failed.
We purchased a Hitachi Deskstar 250G ATA/IDE internal drive to swap with the failed drive. We did not purchase this through apple.
We swapped the drives and put the new HD in the 6th port. NO GO. We placed the dive on port 11 as its own and the drive reads fine (as a spare).
How do we add this drive to the 7 disk Array?

I think yes, you have to find someone, who is able to read service parts of the disks. Apple's 'special' firmware is written here. The way is read this firmware from original disk and write it to non Apple disk. You will not be able to do this without special tools. Company which does data rescue from crashed disks can do this job for you. But as was written before, disk size must be identical with original drive.

I have the ipad retina display version - I have a BIG issue with this when out and about, that only about 50% of the time will it see my HTC mobile WiFi hotspot - rebooting either, or both devices doesn't cure the problem it drives me MAD!!!!
The HTC hotspot works fine with everything else I connect to it.
Also - ipad will not connect to my HTC via bluetooth. Again, I can connect to everything else with my HTC other than my ipad.
I have to say this is my first venture into Apple products and I have always wanted to get away from my windows based laptop to get a MacBook, the problems I have had (flash player etc) & continue to have (as above) are putting me right off swapping over. I HATE technology that doesn't work and my ipad has been hard work!

I stated my ipad as being an ipad2, but I now think it is a 3??? It was new Jan this year and is the 64gb retina display version.
I really would like to get to the bottom on this problem wit mobile hotspots as it is sitting on my desk next to me now and I cannot get it to connect to my HTC mobile hotspot!!!! It might be taking a flying lesson soon at this rate!!! Grrrrrrr...........

My hard drive failed. My applications were on the drive including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Apple told me I could pull everything from the failed drive. I tried that but the drive is bad so I can't get to anything. The Office package was installed/included when I purchased the Mac. Does anyone think Apple will provide me with the Office package? Thank you!

Thank you everyone. I apologize to confusing all but I am up to date and running OS X 10.8.2.  It's possible I purchased the key for Office but I don't think so although it was 3-4 years ago. I guess I will stop in the Apple Store and just ask. I may just buy the new bundle anyway to get the most updated.
I have read there are issues with the MS Office bundle running on our latest OS, is that true?
Thank you all!!! You've been great!

I ran an iTunes update.  It failed with the message  "System Error.  The program can't start because MSVCR80.DLL is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."   I tried reinstalling but get the same message.  I looked in my Recycle Bin for that file name but there is none there.  Is this a new file that iTunes wants?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • BIG PROBLEMS - XEROX PHASER 3160N Driver

Hello, I have a big problem. I have just switched from Snow Leopard 10.6.2 to Lion 10.7.4 and my printer machine is offline. I have downloaded the latest driver from xerox support web page but my printer isn't work. First page it is ok but then after is not working. Do u have any solutions?

As best I can tell from the Xerox Printer Suuport site, the Xeorox Phaser 3160n model is Not supported for Lion compatibility with any of their drivers.
People who need to SCAN and/or PRINT without a compatible Lion driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan ( ).
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
The next window looks like this:

  • Installation failing in Logic Studio. Big Problem!

Hello, I broke my Macbook recently and got a new one through insurance. Basically my copy of Logic was installed on the broken one and now I am installing it on the new one, I was told that you get two downloads on different systems. I tried to install Logic twice with the same disc as before and it gets quite a way through the installation and then says this installation has failed, contact support. Has anyone else had this problem, really need to make some beats.
    Thanks, Reuben.

This is almost exactly my situation, except my MacBook Pro was stolen inside my car which was also stolen. I got the car back but no MacBook Pro. I try to install Logic Studio on my new MacBook Pro and it hangs on "Writing Files" for a while, then it gives me the "Installation Failed" prompt. Anything you find out please let me know.

  • Macbook pro hard drive problem- failed? worth it?

yesterday my computer froze. so i manually restarted it. it now get stuck at the gray screen for a good 10 minutes and then the blinking question mark/folder appears. when i boot it from the CD, disk utility sees the drive but says "unmounted". i can start the computer on firewire mode (this also takes about 10 minutes of holding down "t" before the gray screen goes away and firewire logo appears) but i didnt have the correct cables to attach it to my friend's mac to see if i can actually recover some data through firewire. seems unlikely though. the computer is still under warranty. most everything is backed up except for 5 years worth of emails that i had to download off the internet when my university cancelled my email address. i want my emails/recent documents pretty badly....
does the following sound like a good idea?: i have the apple guys replace my drive (so i have a working computer). i keep the replaced hard drive, put it in an enclosure, hook it back up to my computer and try to recover data then (disk warrior etc or freezing it). ALSO, is putting the old drive in an enclosure really difficult? i used to install memory cards on my desktop pc before but thats about all the experience i have with hardware. what do you think my chances of data recovery are?
edit: just found out that if i wanna keep the old hard drive i would have to pay for them to replace it, although its still under warranty.....i definitely wanna keep my costs to a minimum....so what if i buy an external hard drive, load the OS on in, and then try to do some data recovery from the original hard drive like that? would that work?
    Message was edited by: harddrivefail

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The best deal would be to try to recover your data before you send your Mac off to have the failing drive replaced. I gather you have most of your stuff backed up, but not the most recent emails and documents, which you really do not want to lose.
Here is something you can try. Go ahead and buy a new external hard drive--one at least the same size as your internal drive. Get a firewire cable and your friend with the other Mac. Using FireWire Target Disk Mode, mount your drive on your friend's desktop. Also mount the new drive on your friend's desktop.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Then use a cloning utility like Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your internal drive onto the external drive.
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
You can download either of these to try out for free as often as you like. If you want to unlock Super Duper's more useful features like Smart Update, you can register a copy for $28. CCC is donation ware.
Once you have made the clone, boot from it and see that everything is OK and that all your recent data and emails are there and intact. If they are not, you may need to try a data rescue program like Data Rescue III.
The clone you create will be an exact copy of your internal drive. Once you have created the clone, you don't need to worry about your dying drive--you can let Apple replace it. When you get your Mac back, you can probably just clone back from the external drive to the internal.
It may be that the dying drive will not let you make a good clone, but you may still be able to end up with copies of your documents and files. If you are worried that the clone may be corrupted and maybe untrustworthy, you can always restore from your older backup and then just add the more recent stuff from the clone.
If you can, buy an external drive with both USB and FireWire capability. Once you have the new internal drive installed and your data on it, you can still use your new external drive for backup.
    Good luck!

I'm having a big problem with Oracle XE 10g, and I have no more ideas about what should i do
Some weeks ago I installed this database on my PC, and everything was working fine. I could access to the DB, with the web interface or command line.

  • My Lacie Big Extreme Hard drive does not show connection speed

    *My Concern*
Hi I have a Lacie Big Extreme Hard drive, which although works fine is not showing its connection, shows up in the system profiler as 'Connection Speed Unknown'. -Should I be worried? I have other drives connected to my G5 Dual 2 gig machine and no problem their they all show their connection speeds.
*Other Firewire 'Unknown Speed connection' related Problem*
I had a DVD LaCie Dual layer portable Firewire drive which recently suffered from the same problem and I had to send it back. This was due to it slowly developing a fault of not being able to burn dual layer disks properly.
*What I have done to try and remedy the situation.*
I have been able to do the following but I am afraid with no change in the system Profiler;-
1 Trashed the whole system and rebuild
    2 repair my permissions
3 empty out all my caches with OnyX (third party app) version 1.8.5
4 Disconnected all drives and reconnected them one by one to see if there are any anomalies within the system
5 switched my G5 off removed the plug from the wall waited 30 sec for it to reset itself this was the 1st attempt. On my 2nd attempt I then cold booted the machine and reset Pram settings
6 used Tech Tools Pro 4 version 4.1.2
    7. Replaced Power supply of the offending unit (didn't have to but I wanted to be safe and eliminate this fronm the equation.
9.tried changing around the order in the chain to which the drives were connected to the G5but alas no joy!
    Summery
So my concern is if a device which is Firewire shows up in the system profiler as connection speed unknown should I begin to worry even though it appears to be functioning.
Thank you ahead of time for any help on this matter
    *Supporting evidence*
Please see below a shot of my System profiler so you can see what I mean:-
    *(Important Note)*
The Lacie Big disk has 800/400 Firewire connection speeds I have connected it straight to my G5s firewire 800 port then daisy chained the LaCie's via its other 800 port to the two other 800 Firewire Hard drives.
When the LaCie DVD DL drive was connected, I connected it straight to the 400 firewire port. As it needed direct access to the G5 for it to function optimally.

Hi BDAqua - thanks a lot for replying - really appreciate your help. I was using Time machine to back up on the old lacie drives that I have - I just backed up on both lacies and they backed up faster for some reason but that might have been because they were very small back ups as I did full back ups on Tuesday night - this is the info under the USB section > hardware > about my mac - it didn't show the speed like the example you gave me though but it still backed none the less  :

I also got a reply back from WD on the hard drive and they said the following - exactly the same as you about it being a problem with the power supplied hence why the disk won't mount - so you were spot on - so I'm thinking I should go ahead and get the newertech 7 USB port 4 amps as you suggested - let me know what you think and then I'll just order it - and thank you - really do appreciate your help on this - thanks Jayas
    Dear Jayas
Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support. My name is James.
If the drive is working fine on one system but failing on another especially with the "clicking" sound this is an issue with the system not being able to supply enough power to power the device.
These devices require power from the machine to make them operate if there isn't enough power supplied the drive will fail to work. This is why you are having no issues with one system but are on another.

  • Big problem with new WD Caviar Green HDD, please advise!

I bought a new Western Digital Caviar Green HDD 1TB, ( WD10EADS ) it is a SATA 3Gb/s interface HDD, 3.5-inch form factor. the RPM = IntelliPower (NOT 7200 RPM or 5400 RPM which means Rotate automatically depends on the needs of fetching data I suppose?)
    I acknowledged that this series of HDD which three of 6 have the same Power Management which Read/Write = 4.9W / Idle = 2.8W / Standby = 0.4 W / Sleep = 0.4W
    They are differ from the other 3, which 500GB one is 4.1W / 2.2W / 0.8W / 0.8W and 1.5TB is 4.73W 2.75W / 0.72W / 0.72W; 2TB is 6W 3.7W 0.8W 0.8W
Which mean the Standby and Sleep mode are the same state.
Now my big problem is, I bought an external dock SI-7908UI for this WD Caviar Green HDD.
    So I first put the HDD into the SI-7908UI Dock ( USB 2.0 / eSATA / Firewire 400 /800 )
I tried many way of sequence of who power on first? WD Caviar Power on first? or Mac mini Power on first? I found that the best way is Mac mini Power on first, then Power on the external HDD.
OK, before I address my big problem, I should let you know, I found that there is NO S.M.A.R.T. working when you put a S.M.A.R.T. HDD outside the Mac or PC. In Dock, the S.M.A.R.T. won't work, That's how I saw in System Profiler, the FireWire tab says " S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported "
and I did test a Non-Green Maxtor HDD, the S.M.A.R.T. doesn't show either. You'll need this info before the real problem I'm gonna say in the following.
NOW, about 10~15 minutes after my Mac mini boot, if I didn't fetch anything from my external HDD, it would goes to sleep itself, that confirmed that the Specification Sheet was true, the Idle = 2.8W and I believe it goes to Idle, NOT Standby or Sleep, which I also believe the Standby or Sleep signal is supposed to be given by Mac OS, but it sounds like Standby or Sleep, BECAUSE the WD HDD suddenly not rotate and the sound it appears that it goes to SLEEP, am I right? I keep Mac awake by browsing the web so Mac mini won't go to sleep (I set 10 minutes in Energy Saver and I checked Put the HDD to sleep when possible)
Well, That is my big problem when WD Green HDD goes to sleep, because I CAN'T wake it up, NOT eject or Shut down the Mac mini. (OK, I'm NOT sure if it goes to Sleep or Idle)
First I thought it freezes the whole Mac OS, then I found I still can move many things, such as I am doing right now, post this big problem here. but I am sure the others are freeze! and no matter how many time I click Shut Down or Restart or Force Quit, the Mac mini didn't respond.
I tried to figure it out because I don't want to Shut Down by force.(5 seconds Press the Power button)
then I found that if I power down the external dock 7908-UI when Mac fail to shut down/restart/or eject the external HDD, It worked.
And the Mac OS will appear a window says that "I shouldn't unplug an external device without Ejecting it first" something like that. and suddenly it shuts down very quickly, everything back to normal, it shut down successfully.
What am I gonna do with this? Am I going to power down my external HDD first every time I want to shut down/eject/restart? Because the Eject the external HDD will cause freeze too! Freeze Finder I suppose.
Is it caused by 7908-UI ? or Caused by WD Caviar's Green Power management?
Because I don't trust 7908-UI, it doesn't look like a trusted brand, I've never heard of this SSI company anyway.
What am I gonna do? Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

Please realise that I am not the right person to be asking. I pointed you to a thread where, as a Moderator at the Bombich forums, I felt the need to warn users of CCC that a WD drive might cause problems. The thread mainly just copies what WD have said.
Obviously your drive will respond/awake/spin up when you access it manually. Some of the problems are...
    •  Most users want to be in control of whether and/or when a drive sleeps -- WD's auto-sleep cannot be disabled and so precludes that.
    •  Most users want their drive to obey settings in Energy Saver -- the WD auto-sleep mechanism doesn't allow that.
    •  Most users want a scheduled cloning/backup to take place during the night. The cloning app starting the backup process should cause the target drive, if sleeping, to wake/spin up so that the process can take place -- it does for all drives except WD drives where the auto-sleep mechanism used doesn't allow it. LaCie drives, for instance, have auto-sleep +as an option+, during which the drive will respond to Energy Saver settings and to software such as a cloning app.
Please, Mauricette, put you questions/concerns/problems to the reseller or to WD, both of whom took your money without warning you. I am NOT a WD expert! ...or lover! ( )   I became more than disenchanted when I saw that a) WD do not point out the limitations of their external drives at point of sale, and b) WD put the blame for these inadequacies/problems/limitations onto Apple, ignoring the fact that no drives other than WD drives have them.

  • Windows 10 preview build 10049 BIG PROBLEM

    hello,
i got a very big problem after updating to build 10049. after the installation was complete my laptop restarted and i got a black screen with in the botom right corner the build number 10049. after a couple of hours the laptop restarts itself but it keeps
    getting on this black screen.
i tried a iso of windows 10 preview latest iso build on a usb stick but with every solution i try: format, repair it keeps getting the same error that there is a problem with unmountable bootdevice.
even using my official windows 8 dvd gets the same problem
i'm lost. i dont know how to solve this problem.
can someone please help me with this?

This is not a one off, it is repeatable on brand new disks.
I previously had the original win10 preview build installed on this hard drive = no problems.
I then did a fresh install of build 9879 from CD. Install completed untill it got to the reboot phase = it would not reboot - the hard drive was not recognized in the bios anymore.
tested broken hard drive in another computer = works
tested broken hard drive in 2nd connector on my laptop = fail (still not seen by bios).
tested a few other sata disks I have laying around on both connectors of my laptop = pass.
upgrade my bios as there is one version higher than I had. = fail (still not seen by bios).
boot from broken hard drive on another computer and finish the OOB portion of the win 10 preview install = pass
So it seems clear that the hard drive is still working, but just not recognized on the original computer. It is only 2 months old so I get it replaced under warranty. Replacement disk is recognized by bios, yeah! I then restore image of broken hard drive
to this replacement. Disk is still recognized by bios. I boot up from this disk on my laptop. It works OK until first reboot, then is not recognized by bios anymore.
    Computer = Toshiba Satelite P305 PSPC8U-01400Q
Hard disk = WD blue 1TB  model: WD10JPVX-22JC3T0
Note: also with windows 8 running on this computer and the broken hard drive installed in second connector, windows also does not see it, neither through disk manager nor through diskpart command line. But if I boot up in Linux from a bootable USB flash
drive, then I can see the (broken disk) on this same computer. Yes I can see it and I can read and write to the filesystem, even though it is still not seen by the bios.

  • Big Problems with Audig

Hello,I have a very big problem.Yesterday I bought a new HD (Maxtor 6L200MO) and i installed it. Everything was working, although the HD is S-ATA and my other dri'ves are P-ATA. My Windows XP installation was also successful, although I was wondering, because I could only format the HD with NTFS System.Well, that wasn't the real problem. The main problem is my Soundcard (Audigy 2). The installation of the driver, also with updates worked, but the sound is terrible. It scatchs and crackles, but with my old HD it didn't. The sound was pretty good with my old HD and I can't understand, how a HD is able to influence the soundcard. The whole day I tried a lot to get it work, but it didn't. I checked the speakercable, I installed and uninstalled the drivers several times in many combinations. I even installed windows several times, but the problem is still there. I also changed the preferences, but I don't know, if I checked all.Another strange thing is, that the PC identifies the soundcard in the system control as "SB Audigy 2 [B800]". But I can remember precisely, that it was C800 with the old HD.
Now I have considered that maybe the problem has something to do with the NTSF system, because I had a FAT system before. I couldn't find another solution or has this something do with S-ATA?I am desperate and I don't know what to do.Here are some facts about my PC:HD: Maxtor 6L200MOSound: SB Audigy 2Mainboard: MSI 865PE Neo3-F S775Graphic ATI Radeon 8500Speaker: Creative Inspire 6..6700I hope someone can help me, thanks.Greets, bradwurst

Ok, first up, the HD you have are 200 gig, A fat32 FS would be horriable on that. NTFS is what you need.
( for more info on files systems, do a google )
When you say scratchy, do you mean like static? Take the card out and see if there is dust on the points and in PCI slot.
Lower the WAVE and Master volume by about 5 points. ( 00% can give you a gain affect so lower to about 90% )
Cheak the plugs from speakers are clean.
IF all that fails, then uninstall everything Creative related and get driver cleaner ( go to guru3d.com and nav to the D/L section )
Remove your card from the comp and start it up with no card. Then shut down.
D/L the EAX 4 HD patch from driver D/L page here at Creative..
    Put card back in.
    Now, Install drivers from CD.
After this, type in run msconfig and shut down all in startup programmes. Reboot.
Install the EAX 4 HD patch.
    Repeat Msconfig.
    Update drivers VIA li've update.
    Repeat Msconfig.
    Lower WAVE and Master volume.
If all that fails, then repeat the uninstall process.
Now try a different PCI slot. 4 is the one you want to use, but try others but DO NOT USE THE PCI SLOT UNDER THE AGP SLOT! This can cause an IRQ conflict with AGP.
    Hope that hel
    ps.
Just a note though, If you ever need to reload again, remove your sound card first. Reload without it.

    Hi There

    Thank you

What program did you use to fix the internal hard drive? What repairs did it report making? More crucially, if repairs were reported, did you re-run the utility until it reported no problems found? It's possible for one set of problems with a drive to mask others.
If you have about 5GB or so free space on the internal hard drive, you can use your OS X Install disc to perform an Archive and Install to recover from the failed Software Update. When the computer restarts, download and run the OS X Update Combo 10.4.11 (Universal). When the Mac restarts after that, run Software Update. During all this, make sure nothing interrupts or shuts down the Mac! Note that the first start after each of these updates will take significantly longer than subsequent starts, so be very patient.
How did you back up your internal drive to the external one? Did you just drag things over in the Finder, or did you use a utility such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner? Does the external HD show up as a bootable volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk, or using Startup Manager?
