Big Problem getting songs onto Ipod..

Ok, my other Ipod broke and i just recently got a new replacement. When i plug it into my computer, it starts updating. However, after about maybe 10-15 songs, a screen will come up saying "attempting to copy to the disk 'mikes ipod'failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. Does any1 know what this means or how i can fix it. I have no idea why it would do this. Please help.

First, are you really using Windows ME as your profile states? If so, you must be using an application other than iTunes, so please post what it is you're using. If you're not running Windows ME, please let us know what Windows version you have.
Regards.

  • I'm a newb-how do you get songs onto ipod nano?

i have iTunes, but i don't know how to get songs off iTunes, onto iPod, help!

Firstly, you must put some songs into your iTunes, e.g. rip the song from the CD. Once the song appear on the iTunes, connect your iPod with your computer, and a window will pop up and you need to register your iPod with the iTunes, then make a choice whether you would like to do a sync manually or auto.
By the way, seems that you are using window 98, I am not too sure whether it manages to support the iPod Nano, you need minimum XP or 2000

  • Problems Getting video onto iPod

    Hey everybody-
I have a feeling that my problem is a composite of many peoples' problems. Here's how everything breaks down: I have a Powerbook G4 running the latest version of OSX and a new iPod 60 Gig 5G (christmas present!)
-I read on the apple website that it is perfectly legal to rip your own DVD's for personal use.
-Therefore, I downloaded Handbrake and used it to rip the movie Freaky Friday which I own, to my desktop.
-The file showed up as an .mp4 on my desktop.
-I tried everything: importing it from iTunes, dragging and dropping it into iTunes library, dragging and dropping it directly onto the iPod icon in the iTunes source list.
-It showed up in the Video section of the iTunes source list, but when I tried to drag and drop it from there onto the iPod i got the same error message that everyone was getting, that it 'wasn't in the right format' with the link and everything.
-I followed the link, which basically instructed me to buy QuickTime Pro, which I did.
-In QuickTime Pro, I followed the instructions for 'movie to iPod' but the progress bar freezes up at 10%, every time.
-I tried changing the original .mp4 file to a .mov file, and it still froze during exporting.
How do I make it export into iTunes, then make it copy to my iPod without error? Pleeeeease help! I am willing to download anything and follow complicated instructions!
    Thank you SO MUCH!

Your Handbrake "rip" may not meet the requirements for iPod use. Anything from the wrong dimensions to too high of a data rate could cause it to "fail".
QuickTime Pro isn't "freezing" at 10% completion. You are too impatient for the conversion. It could take a day (slower machines even longer) to convert a DVD rip to iPod friendly specs.
Plenty of lawyers in D.C. (I lived there for 50 years) would conclude that you don't own the right to "convert" the DVD to iPod format because the conversion creates a new product not intended by the copyright holders.
I doubt the police on the Metro would enforce (copyright Police force?) would take notice once you do get the film onto your iPod.
Test the "Export to iPod" setting using a 5 minute "cut". Open the Handbrake rip and copy 5 minutes of the file using QT Pro. Paste this cut into a new player window and save.
Time the export (you may be disappointed) and then you'll know how long the entire file will take to export to iPod settings using H.264 video codec.

  • Having problems getting itunes onto ipod, but they took my $$

i recently bought my daughter a 3rd generation nano ipod for her 12th birthday. The first night she had it she used her itunes gift card and successfully downloaded 13 songs. The next night she proceeded to do the same thing, this time 15 songs. The money came off the card, but the music didn't go on the ipod. She did everything exactly as she had the previous night. I attempted to contact itunes, they stated it would automatically download the missing songs when the connection was made. HA HA...still don't have them...any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is the music on the computer in iTunes?

  • My dad has itunes on his PC. I don't have my own but I recently have an iPad mini and an iPod. I don't know how to get songs onto itunes on the PC, using a different account or at least private/ separate..

My dad has itunes on his PC. I don't have my own but I recently have an iPad mini and an iPod. I don't know how to get songs onto itunes on the PC, using a different account or at least private/ separate..
So how do I create a separate I tunes on a PC which already has itunes... Or if not can I plug my iPad to the PC and use itunes on my iPad, and drag mp3s from a computer.
I'm not sure what the equivalent of a desktop is on the iPad.. And I don't actually know how to use the icloud either...
Can anyone start me off, given it have a iPad and use of a PC - not mine with existing iplayer
I do have spotify soundcloud so I could potentially use these.. If there is a route of getting either mp3's etc to end up on my iPad or iPod.
    Kind Regards

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(7 and using VISTA).

How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(i'm using iTunes7 and Vista).
I don't have the disc, cause i can't find it. But my computer downloaded the ipod, it just cant find the files?
i've been looking through the topics for the past hour and none of them helped. Maybe i'm stupid i dont really know, but i've restored my old computer a couple times and i found a post and it helped both times. now i can't find it anymore.
THIS IS THE ONE I'VE BEEN SEEING AND IT DOESN'T HELP ME ONE BIT:
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
Can someone give me a link, or tell me one that shows step by step.

Here is a way of doing it, for another take on this, search the forum for posts by Zevoneer.
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2586win.html
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • Problem getting songs back from lost Ipod Touch onto computer?

I lost my Ipod Touch a month ago and I download my songs of the Touch's Itune store, not on my computer. Now I lost quite a few songs and since I did not sync the new songs onto my computer, its not on my computer. Is there anyway I can get back the songs I bought through the Itunes of Ipod Touch back onto my computer's Itunes? I hope you can understand what I'm saying, its a bit confusing.
    Thanks

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies in case something goes wrong with your system or your iPod is lost, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all your purchases. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
You can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases and you are using iTunes 7 you don't need any additional software. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod

  • How to get songs onto new PC

Alright, my old PC completely crashed, with my iTunes and everything on it. I've got my iPod mini now (with my Mac) but the problem is I have no clue how to get all my songs from my iPod onto my computer. I don't want to have to load all of the songs from my CDs and rebuy them from Apple again... and I don't know if I'll be able to access my old PC again. Is there anyway to get my iPod mini songs onto the Mac?

  • Trying to upload songs onto ipod

I've had my ipod for about 4 months now. i just got out to school about a month ago and today was the first time trying to upload some new songs onto it. when it connected to my computer, it would show the "do not disconnect screen" on it, then reset. i tried doing this 3 or 4 times, and it has yet to work. i was wondering how i could go about fixing this, or if it's just a problem with my ipod that i can't fix? thanks a lot.

I had/have the same problem. I say both - because I went ahead and had to restore the ipod tonight. Itunes nor my PC would recognize it. I downloaded the upgrades for itunes and the ipod installed them both. Went ahead and uploaded all the songs again and it worked fine. Then I disconnected the ipod, uploaded another cd to see if it would upload to the ipod and nope it wouldnt. Itunes would not recognize it. The only way I can disconnect it now is to shut off the PC because all I get is the "do not disconnect" warning. When the PC finally does recognize it - it tells me I need to update the lastest software for the ipod, but then it freezes and when it finally does actually do something - it only gives me the option to restore it. I dont want to do another restore and am at a total loss of what to do next. I have read thru the FAQ's and cant find anything that helps unless I am overlooking it. So any help would be great. Hope we get this problem worked out..Thanks
