Big Problem: Maverick on dual screen hide everything in between.

I'm using Maverick for the first time, i cannot see documents or folders or even the safari's window in the middle of screens, they just hide half window so that i can only see half window on one sceen at a time. I was trying to align screens and to get that i was use to move something between screen, in the middle, and i got this problem as i need to see a lot of files that way, using 2 screens in the same time per one file or folder i mean.
Anyone has the same problem, any help please? thank you in advance.
PS: Sorry for my english, i hopethe issue it's clear.

I had a similar issue. My Mackbook Pro with an extra monitor connecetd with mini DVI port. I had Photoshop tools and menus on my laptop and the photos on the extra screen. When I was fixing a photo the extra monitor showed some weird behaviur so I decided to save my work. It was amazing my laptop went into freezing and finally it went off, It restarted but it did not pass through the Apple sign and the small gray wheel. I tried to use HD Recovery and it was the same. Finally I solved it using the "T" Target mode with another Imac. Is it possible to solve it with the tip you mention here of the "spaces"?

  • Fans noisy with Maverick and dual screen

    Hi,
I use a second screen on my MBP.
Since I have installed Maverick 10.9.1, the fans rotate at 5500 rpm all the time (even when I do nothing). And... it's noisy !
If I unconnect the 2nd screen, after seconds, the fans rotate slowlier.
When I was on Mountain Lion, this problem wasn't.
I try a SMC reset with no success.
I don't know if there is a solution or if I must wait for the new release of Maverick.
    Thankl's for your help.

Either use separate X (gnome remembers things properly then) or learn to deal with not having that many panels . Separate X means you can't drag windows from screen to screen.

As far as I can see, resetting the power manager on this model of iMac involves resetting the SMC, which is unplugging all cables for 15 seconds, plugging back in and powering up. Tried that too, same result. In terms of third party software, nothing. Clean Leopard install is the lot.

  • Big problem with plain blue screen on boot (not related to Leopard install)

Hi - eventually I have worked out how to post to this forum!
I have had a major disaster with my iMac this weekend. It began with a lock-up when I was working happily away in Blender. I got a beachball and the machine froze. I had ssh set up so I tried to go in from my iBook to kill a few processes to try to get it back on track, but without success, so eventually I had to hold down the power button to power off the machine.
When I tried to reboot, I got the grey screen and the spinning wheel, then a plain blue screen with no mouse, no beachball and the machine just seemed to stop. I could hear the CPU going like the clappers and was able to ssh in again and check top to see what was going on, and the WindowServer(?) process was maxed out at 100%. I wasn't able to kill it and again nothing happened and on a further reboot I just had a plain blue screen.
I have since spent a few hours trying various things to sort this out, so far to no avail.
    - Single User mode, fsck -fy: reports everything fine, no change
    - Reset PRAM, no change
    - Tried booting off my backup Firewire drive (SuperDuper) but it won't boot to it, same blue screen hang
    - Ran Disk Utility from Leopard Install DVD - permissions, checked disk, etc - no change
    - Ran DiskWarrior in Target Disk mode from iBook, no change
    - Ran Tech Tool Deluxe, no change
    - Removed RAM (not third party), put it back in, no change
    - Reinstalled Leopard using Archive & Install, no change
    - Reinstalled Leopard again, using Erase & Install, no change
    - I think I'm running out of options.
I'd have been on the phone to Apple by now but it's Sunday tomorrow and a Bank Holiday in the UK tomorrow so it will be Tuesday at the earliest, and I know I'm going to be frustrated by having to go through all this with them again!
A weird thing is - I CAN get logged in in Safe Mode now and again, and when I do, the mouse pointer has a small, almost transparent rectangular graphic attached that follows the pointer around. Barely perceptible but it's there - it looks like a Leopard icon for a txt file but barely visible. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?? It really feels like something has corrupted, but with a totally clean OS install, is that possible?
As it stands, I'm sure this is a hardware issue but I'm not sure. I had a couple of power outages lately which I suspect are behind this.
I'd be really grateful for anyone's thoughts on this - it's been a really frustrating couple of days.
    Cheers.

As far as I can see, resetting the power manager on this model of iMac involves resetting the SMC, which is unplugging all cables for 15 seconds, plugging back in and powering up. Tried that too, same result. In terms of third party software, nothing. Clean Leopard install is the lot.

  • Big problems with Matrix and Screen Painter

    Hi all !!!
I have a terrible time with my matrix in screen painter. I looked over all the samples in SDK and tried different things. The closest i got to make it work is when my form loads, i can click in each on my cells on the first row of the matrix but when i enter data if i click on another cell i lose the data. My form is fairly simple. I got 4 fields as regular data and a matrix with 8 columns. Can someone help me with this !!!  Maybe one of you have an complete example for entering manually data in cells and then save it. I'm using a UDT (not UDO) table and using .net ...
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Alain
It's not necaserry to delete the matrix. Leave it there. Then access your matrix with the following code
    Dim oMatrix As SAPbouiCOM.Matrix
    Dim oColumn As SAPbouiCOM.Column
    Dim oColumns As SAPbouiCOM.Columns
    oMatrix = SBO_Application.Forms.Item("FormID").Items.Item("MatrixID").Specific
    oColumns = oMatrix.Columns
    oMatrix.Clear()
    then create datasource and bind
    oForm.DataSources.UserDataSources.Add("DataID", SAPbouiCOM.BoDataType.dt_SHORT_TEXT, 20)
    oColumn = oColumns.Item("ColID")
    oColumn.DataBind.SetBound(True, "", "DataID")
    Hope this helps

  • Dual screen GDM problem

I have a rather big problem with my dual screen setup. The left screen is 1920x1080 and the right one 1360x768.
    This is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DVI-0"
    Option "Primary" "true"
    Option "Position" "0 0"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DVI-1"
    Option "Position" "1920 180"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1360x768"
    EndSection
I set it up as described here. However, GDM doesn't behave as normal, but gets stuck with a slightly dimmed default GDM background (the one with the blue stripes) on the first screen and a crazily flashing second screen. I never even get to the login prompt.
If I plug the second screen out before the computer boots, GDM starts normally. I can then plug it back in as soon as the GNOME Shell panel has appeared. If I do this before the panel is visible, I get two screens full of graphics errors (a mess of blue/magenta/white squares).
As soon as the second screen is plugged back in, I can immediately use it and drag windows back and forth, however, the "Position" setting in xorg.conf is ignored, i.e. the height is shifted. I can solve this by entering this in the terminal:
    xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --output DVI-1 --mode 1360x768 --pos 1920x180
I hope someone can help me with this. I just want to be able to log in and use the second screen straight away. By the way, if I log out, GDM doesn't seem not have any problem with the second screen: I can log back in normally.
    Thanks in advance!

Archimaredes wrote:I don't have much experience with this, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but should that not be 1080, instead of 180?
Thank you, but "180" actually means that the upper border of the 2nd display starts 180 pixels below that of the 1st one. The number may be a bit misleading, but it is how my displays are physically set up.
olive wrote:If gdm cannot behave properly, you can simply disable the external monitor in xorg.conf
This is a fabulous idea, I hadn't even thought about this! Launching the xrandr command at the start of the GNOME session is really easy with gnome-session-properties.
I tried disabling the 2nd display, but it just ignores the line and starts with GDM flashing like usual. This is my xorg.conf:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DVI-0"
    Option "Primary" "true"
    Option "Position" "0 0"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
    EndSection
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DVI-1"
    Option "Position" "1920 180"
    Option "PreferredMode" "1360x768"
    Option "Disable" "true"
    EndSection
If I could get this to work, this would be a wonderful workaround.

  • Dual screen problems after last updates

    Hello everyone,
it was long time since our Arch gave me some problems, but then now I'm fighting furiously with dual screen configuration with new gnome. Let me explain.
I upgraded the home PC that I hadn't update for months, so I updated more or less everything ... kernel, nvidia drivers, gnome, etc..
The PC has always been dual screen (no twin view, without xinerama), two screens (one on a LCD monitor and one on a TV) where I could run separate applications independent.
Now, after the update, when I launch any application in the second screen (the TV) it starts on the first (screen).
Obviously I have't made any changes to xorg.conf before and after the upgrade. I also tried to recreate one with the nvidia-tools but nothing ...
Can you help me? Someone had the same problem?
I post my xorg.conf, I hope that someone has a hint. I can no longer watching movies on TV and it is very annoying!

Writing the post a tried to install fluxbox, and then... all ok. In fluxbox all works fine. I think this is a problem related to the new gnome screen configurer.
I post an image of gnome screen configurer vs nvidia-tools.
Googling around I found that new gnome screen configuration (using xrandr) is not compatible with nvidia drivers. Could be this the source of the problem?
    Help please

    Hi,
Does your Mac go to the sleep status when you close the cover? If so, the remote session can be terminated due to time out and the time out value may be redesigned in the latest versions.
    Thanks.

Hi, I got a big problem. I restored my macbook pro and after I erased everything and started to restall the system, it showed I need to give the apple ID that was purchased the lion. The problem is that I lost my installing CD, and I don't have an ID with lion purchased, so what should I do? Do you sell the system software?

This is a user forum; we're not  Apple.
Please contact the Apple Support folks directly for issues related to hardware and software purchases.
The particular model of MacBook Pro is a key detail here, as the Mac model will determine the oldest version it can boot, as well as whether it'll boot more current software.
AFAIK there is and was no Lion installer DVD available.  It was a download.  AFAIK, the last DVDs commonly available were for Snow Leopard 10.6.  Snow Leopard DVDs are still available in the Apple online store in various countries, if your MacBook Pro is old enough to be able to boot that version.
If your MacBook Pro purchase with Lion wasn't registered with Apple, then you'll have to discuss this directly with the Apple Support folks, or repurchase Lion from the Mac App Store (which will usually involve a call to Apple for a redemption code as it's old software), or you'll "purchase" (it's free) Mavericks OS X 10.9 and wipe and install that assuming your MacBook Pro supports Mavericks.  If you didn't purchase the MacBook Pro from Apple (and it was shipped with an older release), then you'll end up acquiring a redemption code from Apple for Lion, or installing Mavericks.
For completeness and given you're probably already aware of this, the usual approach for restoration with recent OS X versions is via the recovery boot (more details).  If the disk is wiped and you can't get Lion, then you'll probably end up reinstalling with Target Disk Mode using another Mac with a compatible FireWire or Thunderbolt port and a cable.  Or visit the local Apple Store.
sputniki: Once OS X 10.7 or 10.9 has been reinstalled, yes, getting Time Machine configured and going is undoubtedly on the agenda.  But had there been a viable backup here, I expect jianghua would have used it.

  • Problem with dual screen (24" imac 2006 ver)

    hi
    i've got a 24" intel imac (2006 ver) and i've connected it using apple's mini-dvi => vga adapter to my 2nd 22" lcd monitor, a samsung 2232GW, which is set to 1680 x 1050.
however, the samsung lcd displays (when i'm using as dual screen) is quite blur and double imaged. quality is readable but very irritating. i'm also using the same monitor for my ps3 (uses the DVI side) and have no problem with any visual aspect. I've tried playing around with the settings like resolution and calibration and tuning but didn't help at all.
anyone might have any ideas and enlighten me on this issue?
    thanks

Did you get any resolution to your question? I have the Samsung monitor almost like yours, and I posted two seconds ago. I think I have a similar problem. I had been using my Samsung with my PC, and just switched to Mac. I loved my Samsung, but now ,for the first time using as a second. Hooked up to mini dvi to dvi, and reported a glow, or tinge coming around any window that I may place on the Samsung. Also, when Ilook at the background around the window I can see that the resolution is not perfect and is breaking up a little. Did you try VGA? and did it help? Curious to know

Which version of Photoshop do you have? The current version is 13.0.6.

  • Dual screen problem in CS5

I have been using dual screens with no problems until I installed PS CS5. Now when I drag an image onto the secondary screen the canvas goes black as soon as I relsease the mouse. I can see the rulers etc. and when dragging across the diaplay the image can be seen but as soon as I 'let go' it's blacked out. The really frustrating thing is that this doesn't happen in AI or Dreamweaver (or indeed any other program!).
    So far I have
    Reset the monitors
when changed to show the same on both screens (clone) the image can be seen perfectly ok on both screens
when the secondary monitor is made the primary the problem remains (i.e. the PS image is blacked out on that monitor)
Checked for updates for the monitors (none needed)
Checked CS5 up to date (no updates required)
Checked for graphics card updates (none needed) - NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS
    Uninstalled and re installed PS
Pointed in an annoyed manner at the useless window open on my secondary screen
Is there something simple that I have mistakenly chosen that is preventing the use of my secondary screen?

Check to see if nVidia has released an updated driver for your hardware.  Go to their web site to check.
Unfortunately, from my observations nVidia may have neglected to keep their driver quality up with later releases for the 8600 GT.  I have reports from some of my own customers using my OpenGL software that the driver is troublesome, and have actually reported better results from an older driver version than the very latest release.
Other things you can try to work around the problem:
In Photoshop, Edit - Preferences - Performance, [Advanced...] and change to Basic mode.
Try disabling OpenGL drawing entirely.  If that corrects the issue it's almost a certainty that the nVidia driver is at fault.

  • Mountain Lion Dual screen window Full screen problem?

I could not upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion on my iMac because dual screen operation was broken when a window on one screen was set to full screen. Has this been fixed in Mountain Lion?

    Hey Cuckoo
i Use an iMac with 2 dual screens and the problem you are describing is fixed in the final build release of ML.
i have not seen the breaking of activity when switching too full screen on even all 3 monitors.  so looking good in the multiscreen support.
    cheers

  • Is this a big problem or one that will go away? Small lines on screen

I have a row about 2 or so pixils big, halfway across my screen. You can barely notice them on the background, and I dont notice them when I move my safari window over it. But I have changed my desktop background to different things, solid colors, photos, random photos apple had in there, and the lines were still there.
It is about 4 rows, very thin, different lengths, right side, just below the center of the right side of the screen.
Is it the beginning of a big problem? I was thinking of calling up applecare then going to an apple store to have the screen replaced.

Thanks. I will back up my data this wednesday, install snow leopard on friday (i doubt it would do any fixing... want to see it though, cant wait to install it :P). Then on the 8th I will schedule an appointment and go to the apple store. That way I can make 1 trip. I plan on getting my ipod touch replaced, the battery for some reason doesnt hold a charge too well, last night on wifi the youtube app drained 25% in 20 minutes.

There is a large thread relating to Gmail, but nothing that sounds like that.
Nobody here knows what Apple is going to do.
You might try removing the Gmail account and then add it back in.
