Big problem with ipod 2nd gen

My ipod will show up on the computer or itunes. It is 4 years old and may now be a paper weight. Last night it had new music put on it and was working fine. When i put it back on its dock (it has to stay docked due to battery issues)and nothing. =( Its buddy (ipod 3rd gen)had the same work done and it works and it DOES show up on the computer and itunes.
Can someone help me jumpstart my paperweight or is my dino dead? (2nd gen is dino 3rd gen is half dino)

It may have gone into total battery failure. Try resetting it while it is connected to your computer. If no go then you might want to put a new battery in it.

  • Big problem with my 4th Gen, please help !!!

    Hi guys.
Well I've a big problem with a 4th gen Ipod. The prob is that the Select button on the middle doesn't work.
I've tried everything : Did a reset, a complet restore from Itunes 7, but it was unsuccesful.
I don't really understand the problem, I was using the Ipod normally then suddenly the button didn't work !!
Please help me. In addition, I cannot carry it to the Apple Centre because I live in Algeria.
    Thanks.

    No ideas ???
I've tried to open it as well, I've unplugged all the connectors, cleaned it with alcohol, but the button still not responding.
Do you think that the problem would come from the logic board ?? Because the button itself worked (I used a METRIX to test it), and I can make a reset with no problem (the reset needs the central button).
    Please help me. Thanks.

  • Remote App doesn't work with iPod 2nd Gen or iPhone 3G

I have been using till recently the "Remote" app to control a Apple Express base station from an iPod 2nd Generation (and it also would work from iPhone 3G. It worked great.
Today, I noticed that it is not working. I am getting a message that says the the update of the App is no longer compatible with the iPod or the iPhone that I was using.  Both of them are running Version 4.2.1
Does anybody know anyway to get the iPod 2nd generation or the iPhone 3G to be compatible with the "Remote" app?  Is there anywork around.
My teenager loved to be able to control the tunes in his room with one of these devices.
I appreciate any advice or help you can offer.

    Maybe:
Remote app for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can't connect to iTunes or Apple TV
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1947
If you have a copy of the Remote app in your iTunes library that is compatible with your iPod delete the app from your iPod/iPhone and sync the app to yur device.
If not, delete the version in you iTunes library and transfer/copy the app to your iTunes library by
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
There is no way to the later version on your devices.

  • Two awkward problems with my 2ND Gen iPod Touch 8GB

    1) I can not update my apps. It tells me I do not have write access to the itunes media folder, I do, and I constantly add music to it from sources other than itunes. I checked finder and all the folder is read and write/ as well as the several subfolders within.
    2) The next problem is quite a pickle. After restoring from a time machine backup, my iPod touch, no longer is recognized on my mac. Recovery fails with itunes. Get this: it works on every other computer i tried, and im using the same cable. Keep in mind my USB ports are all 100% good, i am constanly using external HDD'S with them. So my question is here, how can I get the iPod to mount without bending over backwards, reinstalling the OS and all. Also since it is still under warrenty, and I have tried getting it restored at apple store (it worked, but to no avail on my acutal iMac at home) will apple replace my ipod with a totally different one?

    1) You looked in the write place and your access seems correct. However, try repairing permissions as this will usually fix these things.
    2) This one isn't as bad as you think it is. Apple Mobile Device Services is not loading properly. If you want to try a quick fix, restart your computer and try again. If that doesn't fix it, go through the troubleshooting steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 Probably the path that will work best for you is to follow the steps for uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

  • There is a serious problem with my 2nd gen 16 gig touch

ive had this problem for almost a couple months now,and its only been recently that i started to seek some real help.
    - for starters, my ipod crashes.... All the time. when its running, i can play music, go thru apps, etc, but not very long, as it just blanks out, or the screen turns white...
    - when that happens, i try to do a hard reset. the apple sign shows, but here is where it gets interesting. a series of things can happen here....
    -the ipod just shuts off.
    -it will white screen.
-orange lines will show on the screen.
-a series of other colors will show, almost rainbow, more like plaid.
-the apple sign will just have pink and purple moving pixels in it.
-random code will display, ending in "we're hanging here".
-the apple sign will just be purple, and the rest of the screen shows green.
    - the apple sign will be somewhat animated, like its having a seizure, and its pixels distorted.
everytime i do a hard reset, one of these, if not something else, occurs. if not, it goes back to the main screen, and i can use it again, for however long it holds out.
if someone can figure out some solution to this before i just try and send it to apple, it would be awesome.
thanks for reading about my r-tard ipod touch!

    1. Get your iPod checked. Here are the UK iPod service FAQs: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipod/service/faq/
    2. Why don't you make some playlists of the music you want on your iPod and sync the selected playlists rather than dragging the individual songs to your iPod. That way you only have to drag them into a playlist (or a few playlists) once and sync those playlists.

  • Big problem with ipod 4g (2 problems)

  • Big problem with ipod nano

It won't switch on unless you plug it into a computer but when you do it flicks between 3 screens before turning itself off.
Its brings the apple screen for 1 second, the do not disconnect for 1 second and then then folder and exclamation screen for 1 second and then switches itself off.
All the time it is plugged into a computer it continues to do this in succession.
However it does not show up on the computer.
    Any ideas?

Well it could be the battery is dead, the nano is locked up, or the flash drive is damaged, well go thru afew steps.
    1) Connect the ipod DIRECTLY to the PCs USB port, not thru some USB hub, Just the USB code one end hooked to the nano, the other end hooked directly to the back USB port on the PC.
Keep it connected for 30 min to an hour so it gets a full charge.
    2) After that if its still acting up try resetting the nano by holding the center and menu button for 6 to 10 seconds.
    3) If reset doesn't fix it, open the ipod updater 06-28-2006 (Can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ ) And try to restore it if you can
    4) if all that doesn't work we'll try formatting it in windows. If you reach this point just post back and I'll walk you thru this step

  • Big problems with Ipod Photo

My I-pod Photo (20 g) got disconnected when it said "Do not disconnect." Now whenever I plug it into the USB port it doesn't show up under my computer or Itunes.
And I keep getting the sad ipod face, and then it turns into
My battery should be almost all the way charged.. and I'm not sure what to do.

  • BIG problem with ipod 80gb

When I connect it to itunes and try to copy music to it (without syncing) itunes get stuck that hard, that i have to disconnect the ipod. It happens every time i connect the ipod, and after several times, itunes just erases all music, without warning. And yes, i restored it several times, and yes, i have the latest itunes version.

    Your issue is confusing.
If you want to transfer your music from iTunes to your iPod, you need to Sync.
If  Sync hangs iTunes, it maybe because of your Antivirus program, so stop your Antivirus program but first make sure you are not connected to Internet.
    Have a Nice day!

  • IPod 2nd gen not being recognized

Hey guys. I've tried all the usual stuff (restart, etc). I recently used my FireWire port at an Apple Store, so I know that isn't the problem.
But for whatever reason, my 2G iPod will not be recognized by my computer. It charges, but not even disk utility sees that it is there. Please help me find a solution.

I'm having the same problem with my 2nd Gen iPod too. Initally my computer would not mount on neither my desktop or iTunes.
I've already done the 5 Rs... even connected another iPod to the computer, which worked fine... eliminating a faulty firewire cord, port, and iTunes (latest version).
After I've Restored it, chose language settings, then connect the iPod using firewire, it automatically goes into diagnostic scan disk mode (the one w/ the CD and magnifying glass). I let it run through this cycle, then it reads that the hard drive is OK (CD with a check mark). Then I press any button... the Apple comes up, then it freezes at "Do not disconnect". Then I restart the iPod and I'm back at "Choose language settings" etc. I feel like I'm running around in circles, arrrgh!

  • IOS4 Problems with iPod Touch 2nd Gen

    Hello!
Since installing the iOS4 in my iPod 2nd Gen I had many problems, the OS makes the iPod slower, the auto-lock function doesn't work, once I tell it to auto-lock after 1 minute, it doesn't, it just stays on all day, I have to do it several times and lock it manually so it stays like that.
I have also had problems with syncing music, since it doesn't play the songs, but is not a constant thing, some days are one songs, some another and is not always the same song.
Many Apps are also failing but that goes to the App developer.
    < Edited by Host >

That is all fine and good except Apple pushed it 2nd gen owners as a supposed upgrade. Had we been given a disclaimer stating that it was going to half break most of our apps, we naturally would have declined the upgrade.
For the record, G2 touches did not get multitasking. All we got Folders and access to ibooks, along with a few minor tweaks, here and there. There is absolutely no excuse for how terribly slow ibooks renders PDFs, considering Looksee did a much faster and better job of it on my G1 touch.
All I really cared about was folders. It would be nice if Apple could tweak IOS4 for G2 ipods to allow for folders without decimating our Ram. If they can't then give us a convenient way to get back to an OS that actually works properly.

GOOD DAY I JUST WANNA ASK IF,, WHAT IS THE POSSIBLE THING FOR ME TO DO IF MY IPOD 2ND GEN HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BACKLIGHT,,, IT ALWAYS TURNS INTO DIM WHEN I USE IT ,,, BUT SOMETIMES IT WORKS JUST FINE,,, PLS TELL ME WHAT TO DO,, THANKS AND MORE POWER

    Please don't shout.
Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?  Has it EVER been dropped?  Did it EVER get excessively wet?  Did you EVER load a pirated developer's version of the IOS?
If "No" to all the above, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • HT5569 cannot connect to wi-fi network with my 2nd gen itouch even after following most troubleshooting solutions; have 3 other devices that connect with no problem (using wndr3700v3 dual router)

cannot connect to home wi-fi connection with my 2nd gen itouch even after following most troubleshooting solutions. i have 2 5-gen itouch ipods and a kindle fire hd 8.9 that can connecto to my wi-fi network and even download from my e-mail accounts with no problem. it had no problem connecting with my old a/b/g netgear router nor the first time i installed my new netgear wndr3700v3 router. since then, no connection. don't know what happened.
    help

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Could it be this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • IPod (2nd Gen) syncing with iTunes 11

On iTunes 11, the songs on my iPod (2nd Gen) playlist are greyed out and I would like to be able to add and remove them. I have read through the discussions and they all point to changing things under the summary button, of which I don't seem to have one.  When I click on my device on the sidebar, the only tab underneath it is Genius.  The only tabs on top are Settings and On This iPod (of which all the songs are greyed out) and Autofill is on. There is no option under Settings to turn Autofill off. I've read how I need to change my settings from Autofill to Manual but can't seem to locate a 'Summary' button anywhere to do so.  Please help!

I am having this same problem. Did you ever resolve the issue and how? I feel really goofy not being able to figure this thing out. Crazy.

If you can't copy your purchases by right clicking on it in the device list and choosing "transfer purchases", download the apps again for free: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Music can only be downloaded once.
