knows I'm becoming a big fan of DW.
But alas, there was one drive - on my 2002 iMac G4 "Lamp Screen" whose directory DW couldn't replace. So, I'm letting that drive slowly (or more quickly) fade. But that drive in the meantime has been running in a seemingly normal fashion and the computer it seems, has been operating at normal speeds.
Until Yesterday.
Huge thunderstorms here where I live, twice (very temporarily) knocked out power - only for a few seconds each time. My iMac shut down during the first one. I tried four times to bring her back to life but got only the endless blank blue screen. I thought her drive was finally gone for good. (I already had everything backed up days ago from the preview pane of DW!!) So ....
I started thinking about strategies for installing the system on one of my external drives and booting from there or buying a new drive on which to install the system. But, since the CD / DVD drive on my Macbook is dead I would be needing to utilize the CD /DVD drive on the iMac itself. So I did a firmware boot by holding command-option-O-F at the startup sound and got the white screen. I typed eject-cd / return at the prompt to open the CD tray and put in the install DVD. Then I simply pushed shut the tray and typed shut-down / return at the prompt for shut down. Then I booted from the install disk.
After the computer started up from the disk it occurred to me to go ahead and give Disk Utility another try. I'M GLAD I DID!! It turns out that during the "verify" phase of disk repair the report spat out a new error message besides the "keys out of order" (un-fixable, even by DW since the disk has mechanical problems.) The new error was "invalid volume header." After disk repair finished I immediately ran it a second time to see if the volume header at least was fixed. It did not come up in the report. So I went ahead and rebooted from the iMac drive.
IT'S ALIVE!!! Well, at least for the time being but still ....

Can you think of any substantial disadvantages to installing my system on an external drive for the iMac as opposed buying a replacement internal drive ... I mean, I can daisy chain external FW drives so the only advantage I can see is just a small amount of extra external clutter .... ?

Basically, you can't. There are no adjustments or filters in FCE that could separate the music from the 'shout-outs' and enable you to lower the music and/or raise the voice.
You could attempt a workaround by using noise reduction with a plugin like WaveArts MR Noise but that may or may not work since music isn't a constant type of noise. However, you can download a fully-functional demo to test whether or not it would help.

Screen images becomes big and out of proportion

Hello,
I've just upgraded to IO 4.3 and everything went perfectly smooth. Suddenly when I was using safari the whole screen images became big and out of proportion for that screen... It's like resolutions of my display would go crazy... I remember this particular issue happened to me on an earlier iPhone model... I don't remember how I solved then.
Please, could someone help me?

I haven't seen anything other than Jailbreaking it or recording with a camcorder. I Googled it and the only way is to Jailbreak. I wouldn't Jailbreak though.

Just wanted to give a shout out to exceptional customer service!

What started out as a bad experience was helped and eased a bit by exceptional customer service. After being put on hold for at least an hour by the "Senior" technical support (again) we were fed up with Verizon and in November once our contract was up we are going to look elsewhere. I don't think so...I am pretty afraid to hit anything I don't know about...which is a lot! But when I tried to update my iPad last week or so I had a heck of a time. I had too many questions and I had to be connected to my computer si I could not stop in the store for help. I will have to check with the store on Monday. Thank you.

Big White Out Gaps In My Library With No Images

Just finished loading ILife 6.0 from 4.0. Have about 1500 photos in my library. Looking at my thumbnails, there are gaps where photos should be. Instead it is a big frameless white gap, going on for where 20 images should be. I scroll down in my library and there are whited out gaps here and there, again, where photos should be. When I go to the edit function and scroll through the thumbnails at the top of the screen and click to edit, I get a gray bordered screen with an exclamation point in the middle and no photo. Any idea what the heck is going on?

marked. The results are the same. Big sections are

My knowledge doesn't run too deep. Did you read the entire article? It worked when I did it...and it worked for iMad...the only other thing that comes to mind might be to repair permissions... someone like Old Toad might be able to offer better advice.

I see on the website that if you have an appointment that day a red number will come up like it does for the text, email or missed calls. Can some one let me know how to set this up or if it doesn't work like that.

Taking limited Big Drive out of old machine

I am taking a large drive (280 gb) out of a G3, and I am trying to re-rescue the drive space that has been lost due to the G3 formatting it to be readable and limiting the harddrive space. Has anyone had any experience with this, I am having trouble getting the new Mac to recognize the drive now. Though other older computers see the drive.

What machine are you trying to install the drive into?
Your best solution may be to get an external drive housing and install the disk in that and use it as an external drive.

Shout out for anyone trying to use a macbook pro with Dell 5210n printer

Has anybody been able to set up the Dell 5210n printer with a MacBook Pro running tiger 10.4.7?
I have downloaded the "driver" from Dell to no avail.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I ordered a 40GB Zen Touch and have been trolling on the boards here ever since, to get a feel for the product that I ordered, and see what people had to say. There have been some very good threads. After much reading, I decided that it was appropriate to say thank you to the forum administrators for taking the time to help people with their concerns.
I have read threads by a lot of whiney babies who apparently didn't do research into what they were buying ahead of time, and now have come back to complain about the trouble that their lack of research is causing. What a bunch of crap! People are on here just outright BASHING creative and it's mostly self induced!
Anyway, we should feel fortunate that Creative cares enough to have a discussion forum for their customers (You don't see that everywhere). To top it off, they actually pay staff to administer it and help people with their concerns. I think that's a nice touch.
So, with my first post, I wanted to say thanks to Cat and Jeremy for being here to help with concerns. I'm impressed by your ability to always maintain your professionalism, when based some threads that I've read, it was most certainly a challenge. It's good to know that if I have issues with my player, posting them here will garner some attention, and they will not just disappear into a black hole somewhere.

Looking to find out how to download a 1 hour school basketball game onto youtube that is about 18gb right now

Good Day. I am a new user and have downloaded some games from my Sony camcorder to my Mac. I am trying to now send out those games on youtube but am getting a "too large a file" message. If there some way to get this on to youtube that I am not aware of. Thank you....Ken

First, your files should be in an iMovie Event. You will need to create an iMovie Project and drag the clips you need to the project. After finishing the Project, use the Share menu and use SHARE/MOVIE in the size you need for YouTube. This will produce a compressed file that should be about 1/20 the size of the raw event files, but it will still look good.
You should check your YouTube account for the maximum length you can download. For new users it is usually 15 minutes, but after you have made a few videos, they may let you do longer videos. So when you are creating your iMovie Project, you will need to keep the length to about 15 minutes. You couls create a separate movie for each quarter for example.
