Thankyou Stuart and the rest of the mod team for being the only people that actually listen and bend over backwards to help people with broadband problems, these guys should be the main call centre for customer service and fault reporting, BT should sack the entire team in india, they are terible, no manners, and treat you like 2 year olds with no knowlegde of what your talking about. Thanks again guys, although im having issues(maybe) with neighbours electrical equipment, everything else that can be done as been done, and im very gratefull for all the help and work you have put in to help resolve my broadband issues.

    Hi Everyone,
    Well after almost 18 months of constant work, 2 versions of Pages and numerous backups, Thomas Strange 3 is finished. Sorry I can't say the real title yet the publisher still wants to keep it a mystery.
    Anyway, I have to say a big thanks to Apple for creating an application that makes the process of writing so much easier. Unfortunately I've now had to save the document as Word so that the editor can do his bit. I still can't convince him to get a computer that just works.
    I wish everyone on the list a pleasant break and new year. I do drop in often though I've been a bit lack of posting of late.

    Hi, I am new to the site and a new iMac user. (prev pc with microsoft office and microsoft works.
    Congratulations!! I want to write. I aologize if you have heard this many times.
    I "journal" and want to use home computer and laptop. I currently have a HP laptop with Micrpsoft Works. I tried writing a file in AppleWorks6 on my Mac and emailed to myself. Likewise I wrote something on the laptop and emailed it. My laptop opened the Appleworks file but it made no sense, my iMac will not open the text from the HP. It said something like no application. I tried apple works, wouldn't open, and there is a 30 day trial on iWork but it would not open, so I may have done it incorrectly. Bottom line is I want to work on the same thing from both computers. I am seriously wondering about getting a macbook for this. And if I do, what program works? What did you do??? Thank You!! Sandy Bowling

    Thanks to everyone who has posted help for the well known problem of Itunes not recognising the Ipod! I have a 30GB Ipod Photo which was working perfectly well until I installed the latest updater 2005-26-06 with Itunes 4.9. My ipod just could not be recognised by Itunes until I reverted to USB 1.1 and restored my Ipod back to updater 2005-03-23.
    I had all the problems with the 2005-26-06 that have been mentioned elsewhere; Firmware Update Failure, Format Disk Write Error etc etc. I persevered and after a total of 10hrs slogging my way through the discussion pages I then did the following:
    1. Disabled USB 2.0 by using device manager.
    2. Restored back to updater 2005-03-23
    3. Plugged my Ipod into the mains to flash the system.
    4. Plugged my Ipod back into my laptop and BINGO!
    I now have my beloved Ipod up and running again and will be forever grateful!

    I was having issues as well. So being a lurker more than a poster, I came across this which has a few solutions too -

    Purchasing the firewire, and connecting that way worked for me!

    A big thankyou to Apple at Bluewater. Spent a few trips back of forward of late as my iMac's disk drive had started to fail, would no longer recognise many cd's or burn any and I also managed to get a blank dvd stuck in it.
    Picked it up today - new superdrive fitted and best of all no charge - yippeee

    Funny... I've been compelled to write in these forums ever since I purchased my iPhone! Dust started collecting under my screen after a week, so I sent it back. Eager to please and with great enthusiasm, they replaced my iPhone immediately! with a refurbished phone that had a blown speaker...
    Then I got a dropped call while talking to customer support. I'm so absolutely infuriated and on the edge that I can barely NOT kill everyone in sight. But at least I was nice to CS agent on the phone. That's good karma, right?

    I would like to add some thoughts on the points debate. I think we all recogonise that the majority of users of Apple Discussions are in the USA, I don't have a problem with that, it's a fact of life. However, the new points system does have a bias towards those replying from the same country as the OP due to time zone differences.
    I don't ever see the day when I can imbibe in the Lounge with the 4s and 5s. By the time I get to my computer each day, all the questions I am able to answer have already been answered unless there are a few insomniacs around, or I become one myself!
    I liked the old system of awarding points. Not just because I was able to get a few myself, but mainly because I was able to give recognition to someone who had helped me expand my knowledge of Macs, even when I was not the OP or after the question had been answered. I realise that this system was open to abuse, but only by a few surely. Limiting the amount of votes one could award each day according to your Level would address that.
    In closing I would just like to say a big thankyou to all who keep these Discussions going. Your work is appreciated.

    And this possibility of awarding others was shaping a very different spirit:
    A lot of tips could be found among "side-replies" that were on topic but coming later, after the OP was already satisfied with the urgent fix.
    It was also shaping a spirit of sharing knowledge in a deeper, more elaborate way. To me this was really about a community of people who shared this kind of enthusiasm for good knowledge, for sense and for general improvement.
    Now that we live in immediateness, the "game" is much more about Shooting First, the one short and "simplified" answer that would, yes, quick-fix, but also kill most of the "side-discussion" as considered almost off-topic...

    Well, the general feeling, anyway, no matter what time is it in Australia, is more like
    "By the time I'm done reading the question as it appears on top of a forum, one or two "Link-to-TheXLab"-type of quick answer have already been copy-pasted within the same minute"!
    (not only Donald but some others who are better at self-censorship, who manage equally well in the new system or who don't speak much because they don't know enough about true reasons/motivations, have left a word or two here, in their own way, about your feeling)

    I see what you mean,
    although for me European at the contrary there is not anymore this period of disabling the "20% chances" thing that I was feeling in the Old Discussions
    you still can give quick replies to some newbies from Japan/New Zealand/Australia, but I agree there may not be as many as those from the US...

    This depends also on the "political" point of viewing them. If with Tuttle we consider that "many of the new features mainly enhance the forums' usefulness to Apple"
    (my main personal guess about this aspect, would be about the gain in Phone Technical Support Crew management)
    possibly there will be no more changes about this?
    Possibly even more immediateness in the future,
    after all we are seriously entering the "iPod world" now, although let's hope the good old times of computing being a matter of a few Cupertino geniuses and a bunch of truly enthusiastic pure Mac people, is not too far gone now?

  • What was the problem?

    About 6pm yesterday I lost internet connection.
    tried resetting the home hub 2 and was getting orange light on broadband.
    did this numerous times over 2 hours, rang the broadband update line and no faults reported.
    @9pm gave in and rang the helpline!
    tried various things, failing at each hurdle before they took a mobile number and said they would do a line test.
    rang me back 10 minutes later - reset the hub and lo and behold - broadband!
    Just interested as to what the problem could have been, if anyone knows?

    Going through the feedback and support pages will be a waste of your time. Apple won't respond to feedback, and support can't do anything regarding product suggestions, particularly not from a company with an existing product they wish to sell. The only attention you might get from Apple would be possible interest in selling your product through the Apple Stores, and I don't know how Apple chooses the third-party products they sell. All I could suggest would be writing to Apple's corporate headquarters:

    with perhaps "Attention: Retail Sales Division" and telling them about your product and your interest in it being sold through the Apple Stores.

  • Integration of a Fireworks CS4 Generated Slideshow Into Dreamweaver CS4

    Hi,
    I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I am no dreamweaver expert so I came to you guys for help. 
    I'm making a layout in photoshop that is going to be exported to dreamweaver. The thing is I want a flash slideshow to be integrated into the layout. But in a way that its is partially covered with a Layer.

    I want it to be in the top right corner. I think I can make the flash slideshow no prob, but how to get it there I have no idea.
    I thought maybe I could add a layer in Fireworks for the section covering the slideshow (I dont know if thats possible) and then leave the space in photoshop blank. Then I could maybe import the slideshow to dreamweaver. Can I do that? and how? or is there a simpler way?
    (BTW I am slicing the Photoshop layout to export)

As mentioned I have 5 live assignments and have been spending my mornings/afternoons/evenings whittling them down, and when I posted here yesterday I was a little worn out, and my focus was not what it could, or should be. But late last night I took an hours break and had a proper look at the CSS tutorials you posted, and would like to say a very big THANKYOU, although its a bit off topic, I was a little apprehensive of CSS, but one hour into the first tutorial and Im hooked, thats not to say Im anywhere near proficient, but really enjoyed myself following the tutorial, (even though it was at the expense of assignment time ), so, very glad I came here with my slideshow problem, and thanks again

  • Import fireworks cs3 slideshow into Dreamweaver 8

    Hello, Im trying to get a slideshow created in Fireworks cs3 to work in Dreamweaver 8. I cant seem to get the html file it generates to slot into a Dreamweaver page. When I double click on the slideshow html file in Dreamweaver it opens a page that looks as though nothing is on it, just a lot of shading and a missing image, but tappin F12 to view in browser shows the slideshow works, but how do I get it into a page in Dreamweaver?     First post, long time lurkerI have done a lot of research on line with credit and FICO scores and I have to say, I got the best information and advise from this Forum.So BIG thanks to everyone!!! A little background about me... Until December 2014, I had no credit whatsoever, never bothered to use one. I tried signing up for a few CC a few years back, but always got denied. Exacerbated by the fact that I have almost the same name as my father, so even though I am an authorized user on 3 CC's with excellent credit history, it never showed up on my file; Even now LOL. No student loans or installment loans, my file with the CRA's is probably razor sharp with how thin it is.Started my credit journey with the Capital One Secured credit card on 12/2014 with a CL of 200, a month later I deposited 1000 to raise my limit to a total of 1200. I charge 1400 on the card on average, but always paid in full, making sure that my account only reports less than 10% utilization. On 6/20 CapOne gave me a CLI of 300 On 6/17/2015 I applied for the Barclays Apple Rewards  and was approved for 3000 CL. Against my carefully laid out plan, I decided to go on a mini app spree. Checked multiple sites for pr-qualified offers; It was a negative for Chase, Amex, and US bank; but CapOne showed I qualified for Venture and Quicksilver Visa.I remember clearly Quicksilver Visa requires "Excellent" credit, not Limited 6 month credit history with 2 accounts; 1 was just recently approved. Brimming with confidence of my recent success, I decided to apply anyway... I ended up with the 7-10 days letter The pre-qual result was probably a glitch. Not loosing hope, and not wanting to waste 3 hard inqueries, I decided to scrounge "the" Forum for an alternate recourse. Lo and behold, information on the forum led me to CapOne's Executive Office. Sent and email explaining my full situation and my excellent payment record even though I had a short history. I informed them that I had made a mistake applying for the Quicksilver Visa and, if possible, to use the already generated credit report on a Quicksilver One Application instead.Nicole from the EO team got back to me after 4 business days and informed me that, unfortunately, because they are 2 different products (Quicksilver and Quicksilver One) I would have to resubmit an application and suffer another 3 hard pulls. Another option was that she can forward my current app to the Credit Underwriter for a recon and a soft pull. After asking for additional info (ie. Income, Rent, other Investments) I was told to wait for an email on the Final Decision. Yesterday, with all hope lost, I received my approval email for the Quicksilver with 3000 CL and no annual fee!!! Woohoo!!!I wil now be gardening until at least July next year, hopefully by then, I will manage to get Chase Freedom and an Amex Card; Perhaps a Visa Signature Card too, if I'm lucky.So a BIG thankyou to Everyone on the myFICO forums for contributing to the wealth of knowledge and informtion that enabled me to be where I am right now and acheive the results I have!!!

                 Thanks for your suggestion, I tried using the selection to 'ABC', this only changed to capitals, but I then saw the blue button now showed '123' which did not work until when pressed twice more it changed the set to '!@?' which had all the neccesary characters!
    Your suggestion provided the answer to my question and frustration, so a big thankyou for your reply.

  • Iso 5 update fail

    i tried to update to iso 5 through itunes it failed (like it would seem everybody elses) with the error 3004. now my itunes will not detect my iphone to restore it. my iphone will not start it goes to the start up apple symbol the loading bar comes up for a second then it goes to the spining loading timer for a bit then does this process all again.
    i have no i dea what i can do if anything, i have tried redowloading itunes this does not work i hve runthe software update on my macbook pro and this does not help either.
    if anyone has aby suggestions they would be much appreciated?

  • Resize question for gallery

    I need to run a slide show in "kiosk" mode where the image
    takes up as much of the screen as possible. The screen will be set
    to 1024 x 768, so basically I need to make sure the images either
    show at 100% because they fit, or reduced to about 85% because I
    know some of them are too big for kiosk mode.
    We are hoping to avoid having to create a sub-library of
    images that are resized down to 85%.
    Yes, I know resizing in the browser will cause degredation,
    but the max size of each image was decided on before we dreamed up
    the kiosk mode. So, new images going forward will be resized to the
    right size, but we can't resize the existing ones.
    QUESTION: Can Spry handle the task of resizing an image to a
    max height? Or can it only spit out what I put in?

    If your XML has the image widths and heights embedded in it,
    you can use an onPostLoad observer on the data set to run through
    each row of the data set to constrain the image width/heights to
    the proper dimensions.
