Big trouble while installing windows 7 on Toshiba mini 305-310

After upgrading my RAM from Gig to Gig, I decided to install windows 7 on my mini 305-310(black model). First, when I installed windows 7 ultimate (64 bit), everything was fine except screen resolution(my screen resolution stuck at 800 by 600 and I couldn't find the solution). After hopeless attempts, I decided to reinstall windows 7 hoping the screen resolution problem would be solved.
When I re-install windows 7, so many problems emerged. My current problem is "hardware problems were detected" message. Right now, I run memory problem test but I don't know what I did wrong. If hardware problems were detected, that means my Gig ram would be a problem?
I just finished memory test but I can't re-install windows 7 on it. The latest error message is 0x000000F4.
Any help would be great since I spent two days without any success.
My Gig ram is a Crucial brand.
Thank you.
Frustrating starter

Thank you for your reply. Actually, my posting has some word problems. Actually, I upgraded 2 gig crucial RAM before I installed Windows 7. In two days, there was no problem after Windows 7 install except screen resolution problem. However, after 2 days, I got an error message("hardware problem"). so I replaced my original 1 gig ram and ever since there is no error message regarding "hardware issue".
Right now, I try to find drivers for fixing my screen resolution issue but still there is no success. It would be great if anyone shed light on me to tell what kind of driver I should download and where I can find the driver.
People asked me why I upgrade Windows 7 and they seem to think anyone who upgrades Windows 7 on a netbook is stupid. Well, I may have a stupid mistake for trying to replace XP but isn't it a natural way to have a curiosity for "new" one? My main computer is Mac desktop and I love it but for a personal research, I also need Windows.

  • Problems installing Windows XP on Toshiba Mini NB205

    Hi there,
I received my new Mini yesterday.  I re-partitioned and installed Windows 7 and it worked perfectly, but I am trying to install a cleaner version of XP on another partition using and external CD-ROM drive and it is giving me grief.  Basically, XP setup can't find the hard drive.
I tried the usual F6 when it says "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver" but it doesn't seem to register.  It's like it doesn't register that I am pressing F6.  But even if it did, I'm not sure I have the appropriate driver.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

You need to make sure that your XP install disk is at least SP1 level or higher for it to recognize a hard drive larger than 137gb in size.  You can integrate SP1, 2, or 3 into your XP Instlal Disk by using nLite as per this guide.
Because Windows XP doesn't have native SATA support you'll need to do one of two things to install XP on your system.  You'll need to follow this guide to integrate your SATA drivers into your XP Install Disk.  DO yourself a huge favor and use the SATA drivers that they provide.  You can integrate your Service Packs during this proceedure as well.
The other option is as follows.
    --------------------8<------------------- <snip> ------------------
Switching back to AHCI (Runs a little faster than ATA mode)
     - First step is to install the basic Motherboard Chipset Driver and ONLY this driver. Do
not install anything else prior to installing the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver as
    outlined below.
    - Download the Intel Matrix Storage Manager here:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
    - Once you download the file, run it with the -a switch:
        iata89_enu.exe -a
This will NOT install the Matrix Storage Manager. What this will do is run the installer, and
ONLY EXTRACT the files to C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager. Again, this
    does NOT install anything.
    - Your drivers are now located in C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager. They
will be found in either \Driver, or \Driver64, depending on whether you're running a 32-bit
    or 64-bit OS.
    - Go to Device Manager --> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Double-click on the Intel ICH8M 3-port
SATA Controller - 2828... remember, *ONLY* click on the device that ends with 2828.
    - Go to Driver tab, and choose to Update Driver.
    - Tell the Wizard prompts:
    - No, not this time
    - Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
    - Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install.
    - Click the "Have Disk" button. Point it to C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage
    Manager\Driver (or Driver64).
    - Choose the driver you want to install....
    - After you install the driver and click OK out of every menu, reboot the laptop.
-) During reboot, go into BIOS and turn on AHCI mode
    --------------------8<------------------- <snip> ------------------
Install your drivers in this order.
Restart after each driver and take the time to test between drivers.
Some will apply and some won't.

Use the Flash Drive that came with your computer it has Snow Leopard installed on it. If you lost it or cannot find it then call Apple and they will replace it for you, I don't know how much they will charge.
BTW when installing MS Windows please follow the directions whether you are using Boot Camp or a vitualialization solution (Parallels, Fusion, etc.) had  you done this you would not have had any issues.

I would use Parallels or VMWare and use the second drive to hold the virtual machine. That way the VM only uses the space that it needs and you can still use the remainder of the drive for other things, not to mention that you would not need to reboot to run windows.
Also Time Machine does not back up a boot camp partition.

  • Keyboard not responding while installing Windows XP sevice pack 2

    Hi,
I am new to macworld, Just got Macbook and try to use bootcamp to install windows xp, but keyboard did not respond hence got stuck at this point. Please help me. how to make keyboard working while installing windows xp using bootcamp. I know that for non-portable Mac USB mouse and keyboard can be used but whats need to be done for portable Mac like Macbook

I have been scouring the internet on my limited dial-up connection trying to find someone who had a definitive solution to this problem which I too have been stuck with.
What finally resolved this keyboard problem during that critical stage in the win xp setup was by:
    1. Going to System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse and check-marking "USE ALL F1, F2 ETC. KEYS AS STANDARD FUNCTION KEYS (when this option is selected, press the Fn key to use the special features printed on each key)" Before starting up Boot Camp,
    2. and Unplugging the Mighty Mouse from the keyboard while my mac was rebooting.
Switching out the apple keyboard for a standard USB keyboard did not work (perhaps in hindsight, i should have plugged it in first before boot camp rebooted and tried to install win xp;)
    Attempting time after time again did not solve the issue;
    Neither did doing all the software updates, firmware updates and such while borrowing an ethernet cable connection from my local library;
    I did not need to find another Win XP with SP2 nor did I need to find a USB keyboard;
Not even updating my Mac OS X from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 or installing the new firmwares for the Apple aluminium keyboard was necessary it seems.
Just a simple checkmark to make the apple keyboard's F-keys primary and unplugging the Mouse from the keyboard before the WinXP install kicked in, allowed me to press Enter to proceed with the installation.
I also turned off the special functions of the mighty mouse like the center click and roll ball, but I felt obligated to post the solution to this problem - Do as you would be done by.
Hope this helps others who encounter this same problem, please confirm if I am correct. Good luck.

    Hello mmarti,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please ensure you are following the Boot Camp installation guide, as you should be selecting the partition named "BOOTCAMP" when you are at the Windows installer screen.  See page 6 of the following PDF:

When I format hard disk while installing windows it shows an error and says that windows can't be installed to this hard disk, but I have installed windows before. How can I install windows?

You are getting this message because you are trying to create an iCloud account on a PC by signing with your Apple ID.  You can only sign into an existing account on a PC.  You first have to create iCloud account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  After creating your account on one of these devices you will then be able to sign into the account using this ID on your PC.

  • Trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini Mid2011

Am trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini (Mid 2011) OS X Mountian Lion (10.8.2) - 2.3GHz/i5/4GB/500GB with external optical drive attached. Using Windows 7 Ultimate (on USB Flash Drive) and Windows Support Software (on separate USB Flash Drive), as the external optical drive is not recognized when Boot Camp restarts to begin installation process. Here are some issues I am having:
    Going through BCA, when selecting the new partition to install on (Disk 0 Partition 4 BOOTCAMP), the warning of "cannot be installed...", so I select  Drive Options (advanced)/Format. Drive is reformatted to the NTSF, but loses the BOOTCAMP name. (Reformats to UNTITLED);
Installation of Windows 7 proceeds, until after its third restart and the color bar with the light burst at its center appears at the bottom of the screen with messages stating "Preparing....". The computer then reboots and starts this endless boot loop.
As it never gets to the part where the Windows Support Software is engaged, can I have both the Windows 7 Ultimate installation and the WSS on the same USB?
I have been researching this issue, but with no difinitive solutions (other than snarky "You obviously didn't read the prior post for this issue..." & "Don't people READ previous posts?" responses.), other than one rude reply saying this was a known issues and there is a fix/driver for it, but no reference as to where this fix resides.
Please if anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful for serious and considerate answers. If you feel the need to be rude/snarky/downright unhelpful, don't reply. This is a community help page, not your venting page.
Thank you in advance for all serious replies.

Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea.

If you want, instead of using a USB drive with the Windows installer (and as you have Windows in a DVD and not in a ISO file), I recommend you to buy an external optical drive to use it to install Windows on the Mac mini. Any external optical drive will work.
