Bigger UI font for Lightroom?

Is there a way to get the Lightroom UI scale up (use bigger fonts and upsize controls)?
I'm using a display with quite high resolution (>140dpi) and the fonts in Lightroom are excruciating small to read.
Since Lightroom is ignoring the upscaling of the windows OS, is there a different way to get the UI to upscale?
Kind regards,
Sam

The second trick is for Lightroom 1.1, and is complete revamp instead of just resizing. I don't see how this would be useful.
It sill works even in LR4. http://regex.info/Lightroom/Config/
How about this? Big enough?

is there a nice cursive font in lightroom 4? Using it for a water mark.

Lightroom will use the system fonts. So yes you can use a nice cursive font if you have one already installed in the Fonts Folder (System 32 on Windows) Click on image below to enlarge.
You start from the Library by clicking export, then check the option for Watermarking. If you click edit watermark from the dropdown list, you can create a new preset. In addition to using text, it’s possible to create a graphic in Photoshop or Photoshop elements using a PNG file with a transparent background. See YouTube video for further information.
If you don’t have that type of  font already installed, you will find lots of free downloads on the web. Simply Google for cursive or cursif fonts.

  • GPU notes for Lightroom CC (2015)

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some additional information regarding GPU support in Lr CC.
Lr can now use graphics processors (GPUs) to accelerate interactive image editing in Develop. A big reason that we started here is the recent development and increased availability of high-res displays, such as 4K and 5K monitors. To give you some numbers: a standard HD screen is 2 megapixels (MP), a MacBook Retina Pro 15" is 5 MP, a 4K display is 8 MP, and a 5K display is a whopping 15 MP. This means on a 4K display we need to render and display 4 times as many pixels as on a standard HD display. Using the GPU can provide a significant speedup (10x or more) on high-res displays. The bigger the screen, the bigger the win.
For example, on my test system with a 4K display, adjusting the White Balance and Exposure sliders in Lightroom 5.7 (without GPU support) is about 5 frames/second -- manageable, but choppy and hard to control. The same sliders in Lightroom 6.0 now run smoothly at 60 FPS.
So why doesn't everything feel faster?
Well, GPUs can be enormously helpful in speeding up many tasks. But they're complex and involve some tradeoffs, which I'd like to take a moment to explain.
First, rewriting software to take full advantage of GPUs is a lot of work and takes time. Especially for software like Lightroom, which offers a rich feature set developed over many years and release versions. So the first tradeoff is that, for this particular version of Lightroom, we weren't able to take advantage of the GPU to speed up everything. Given our limited time, we needed to pick and choose specific areas of Lightroom to optimize. The area that I started with was interactive image editing in Develop, and even then, I didn't manage to speed up everything yet (more on this later).
Second, GPUs are marvelous at high-speed computation, but there's some overhead. For example, it takes time to get data from the main processor (CPU) over to the GPU. In the case of high-res images and big screens, that can take a LOT of time. This means that some operations may actually take longer when using the GPU, such as the time to load the full-resolution image, and the time to switch from one image to another.
Third, GPUs aren't best for everything. For example, decompressing sequential bits of data from a file -- like most raw files, for instance -- sees little to no benefit from a GPU implementation.
Fourth, Lightroom has a sophisticated raw processing pipeline (such as tone mapping HDR images with Highlights and Shadows), and running this efficiently on a GPU requires a fairly powerful GPU. Cards that may work with in the Photoshop app itself may not necessarily work with Lightroom. While cards that are 4 to 5 years old may technically work, they may provide little to no benefit over the regular CPU when processing images in Lr, and in some cases may be slower. Higher-end GPUs from the last 2 to 3 years should work better.
So let's clear up what's currently GPU accelerated in Lr CC and what's not:
First of all, Develop is the only module that currently has GPU acceleration whatsoever. This means that other functions and modules, such as Library, Export, and Quick Develop, do not use the GPU (performance should be the same for those functions regardless of whether you have GPU enabled or disabled in the prefs).
Within Develop, most image editing controls have full GPU acceleration, including the basic and tone panel, panning and zooming, crop and straighten, lens corrections, gradients, and radial filter. Some controls, such as local brush adjustments and spot clone/heal, do not -- at least, not yet.
While the above description may be disappointing to some of you, let's be clear: This is the beginning of the GPU story for Lightroom, not the end. The vision here is to expand our use of the GPU and other technologies over time to improve performance. I know that many photographers have been asking us for improved performance for a long time, and we're trying to respond to that. Please understand this is a big step in that direction, but it's just the first step. The rest of it will take some time.
    Summary:
    1. GPU support is currently available in Develop only.
    2. Most (but not all) Develop controls benefit from GPU acceleration.
    3. Using the GPU involves some overhead (there's no free lunch). This may make some operations take longer, such as image-to-image switching or zooming to 1:1. Newer GPUs and computer systems minimize this overhead.
    4. The GPU performance improvement in Develop is more noticeable on higher-resolution displays such as 4K. The bigger the display, the bigger the win.
    5. Prefer newer GPUs (faster models within the last 3 years). Lightroom may technically work on older GPUs (4 to 5 years old) but likely will not benefit much. At least 1 GB of GPU memory. 2 GB is better.
    6. We're currently investigating using GPUs and other technologies to improve performance in Develop and other areas of the app going forward.
The above notes also apply to Camera Raw 9.0 for Photoshop/Bridge CC.

I posted the following information on the Luminous Landscape forum (GPU used in Develop but not Library?) in response to comments you made there.
I am very puzzled by the extremely blurry image in the second screen capture when the GPU is enabled.
    OS X (10.9.5)
    Hardware configuration:
       MacPro (late 2013)
       AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB
       Apple Cinema Display 1920 x 1200
       16 GB RAM
       1 TB SSD
Test file:  Nikon D800 NEF, 50 MB
    (0)  open the Develop module
    (1)  select a different NEF file and zoom to 1:1
    (2)  clear the ACR cache
    (3)  select the test file
    (4)  take 3 screenshots to illustrate the 3 display states (the first one is hard to capture)
    (5)  select another image
    (6)  same 3 states are present
    (7)  return to the test file and the same 3 display states are present
Why isn’t the ACR cache coming into play in step 7?
If I repeat this process with the GPU disabled the image is displayed without the intermediate states.
I have attached the 3 screenshots mentioned in step (4).

  • Font for photo info does not work on this MAC

We are running a new MAC (OS 10.6.2, 2.66 GHz Quad) with Lightroom 2.6.  When I try to add photo data to a contact print, I see a series of boxes with AAAs.  I got the same result with the Identy Plate when I changed the font.  I changed to another font and it was fine.  This leads me to believe the default font for photo info is not supported on this machine.  We really need to use the photo info feature.  Is there a way to either
    1.  Change the font to one that is supported on this machine
    2.  Add the default font to this machine

Considering the hundreds of thousands of Windows apps available, I doubt you're going to find such a list.
Is there a comprehensive list posted somewhere that show which PC software has compatibity issues?
Well since Windows software does not run on Mac OS, every application is going to have compatibility issues.
You'll either have to buy the Mac version (if available) of the software you want to use, or install Windows on the Mac.

Ah, so you are looking for a WYSIWYG font list, such as what Photoshop has.

I'm rebranding my photography website in Muse. I'm using a web font for the name of my business. I want to use the name as a watermark and have it match the website for consistent branding. What's the best way to do this? I used a screen capture but that's less than ideal. thank you.

You should be able to use that same font in any of the Adobe Creative Cloud programs. So you can add the watermark to your images with Photoshop or Lightroom.

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

  • Need help in finding a font for a logo

I was looking for help in finding a font for my logo. I'm not a designer at all, so I'm calling on all the fine designers and folks on the Adobe site to help me out. All replies are, of course, appreciated and any suggestions/comments/ideas will be welcome.
I'm designing a logo for my film company. I wanted to keep it simple but not boring either. I put together the first draft of the logo using Photoshop CS3 and used Trajan Pro for the film company words (Panthera Films) and used Futura for the slogan ("Inspiration through Imagination"). While I don't mind the fonts, it's simple but, alas, too boring. I love the panther image but need a dynamic font for "Panthera Films" and a complimenting font for the slogan.
Can anyone recommend a good combination of fonts to replace the Trajan Pro and Futura? As well, I want to give the logo a nice presence without it being too loud, bold or jumping off the page. As well, should the font for "Films" be the same as "Panthera" or can they be different?
The image I attached is something I was thinking to use as a banner on a website.
Any help would be appreciated too with this
    TIA,
    Dale

    Dale,
As I said, I like it too.
You may consider making it a bit heavier, maybe bold, for readability at small sizes.
It is hard to recommend a specific font because it should represent your company and what it stands for. Have you tried typing the name in a word processing application (Worst or something better) and then running through all the font you have? If not, that might give you a few new thoughts about the overall kind of font you feel is the right one. And then it is much easier to recommend something.

  • How can I get my serial number for Lightroom 3? I can't find my proof of purchase

I dealt with your chat staff for hours and did not get anywhere but upset. I have uploaded Lightroom 4.4 as a trial version. I purchased Lightroom 4 and provide my serial number then it asks for the prior serial number for Lightroom 3. The serial number that I have has letters and numbers and will not work. Please provide me with a serial number so that I may complete my install.  Please provide a phone number that can help me with this request.
    Thanks

As noted by JimHess the Educational version comes with a CODE and INSTRUCTION for what you need to do to get a valid serial number.
You must follow those instructions to get a valid serial number for LR 3.
But I must add that if you had lightroom 3 since it was released, even the educational version, you must of at one time gotten the serial number for it.
I'm not sure, since that version is now at least 4 years old (my copy is dated 2009), but I doubt Adobe is still running the serial number redemption service for lightroom 3.
So if you can't find the serial number for that version of LR 3 you will need to buy a Full Version of either LR 4 or LR 5

  • Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"? (OSX 10.10)

Is there any way to change the default font for outgoing text-messages, in "Messages"?
I can change it for one conversation, but then it resets to the default, tiny font.
The preferences menu only lets me change the conversation font.
    (OSX 10.10)

    Hi,
As you may remember there used to be a Messages pane to the Preferences where the Font and colour of the Balloons or background and the Font text colour could be changed.
And there was a Format Menu for character, word and Sentence changes in the current IM or iMessage.
Those have gone in Yosemite's version of Messages (Despite it retaining the designation of Messages 8 the same as Mavericks' version).
All that can be done now is set the size of the font and this has been moved to the General Section of the Preferences.
The Yosemite version has also been fixed to using the Balloons style of send and receiving any type of messages as well.
Changing the Font would involved editing the Balloon.transcript file.

  • How do I find the font for a specific character in a textItem?

I'm writing a script that builds a font list for an open document. While I could have lookup the fonts for the file as a whole, my goal is to iterate over specific layerSets to build a font list from. The issue I'm facing, is that referencing:
    app.fonts[text[n].textItem.font].name
Only pulls the font name of the first character of the textItem. I need to get the names of all the fonts in the textItem, and while I can successfully loop through each of the letters, they do not have the character attributes associated with them.
    I tried this: app.fonts[text[n].textItem.contents.font].name
As well as many iterations of a similar idea, and I cannot get it to pull the font name, as it's not an attribute of each character. I apologize if this is a remedial question, but I'm a bit of a novice with javascript in Adobe programs.
For an example of what I'm trying to acheive, I was easily able to do this in illustrator, by using the following statement:
    fontName = text.characters[j].characterAttributes.textFont.name;
When placed in a loop, this goes through each font in the text Layer.

This should get a list of the fonts used in Type Layers in the selected Group.
    // get list of fonts used in the active group;
    // based on code by paul riggott;
    // 2014, use it at your own risk;
    #target "photoshop-70.032"
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {

  • How do i find the serial number for lightroom

i tried the trial for 30 for lightroom and bought the photoshop and lightroom combo pack for 9.99 but whenever i open up lightroom it says that i need to put in a serial number!  How do i fix this?

There are two LRs, one licensed by a serial number, and one licensed by logging into CC, but only one LR can be installed at a time.
You need to uninstall the serial-number LR, then Quit the CC Desktop application (using the gear/quit or right-click/quit) and restart it, then you should see LR in the Apps list with an Install button next to it.  Install that version and you’ll be fine.
