Bin type identification

Hi,
If I have below information
Row             Column                Level            Euro Pallet               Industrial Pallet             Height of the bin
01                  01                        01                    4                               0                                     100 CM
01                  01                        02                    4                               2                                     100 CM
01                  01                        03                    4                               2                                     150 CM
how many Bin type I need to create as in 1 st level I cant keep industiral pallet, on 2nd & 3rd level I can keep same number of pallets but it has different height.
How many bin type I need to create. As storage type for all three level is same how can I control that for  the industrial pallet should not suggest 1st level in the transfer order

Based on the height of the bin you need to create the bin type (e.g.
Height of the bin              EP        IP
100 CM -- B1                     Y            N
100 CM -- B2                     Y            Y
150 CM -- B3                     Y            Y
Assignment storage unit type to Storage type (Assume your storage type is ST1  & Storage unit type is EP & IP)
   ST1  --- IP,EP(maintain value of all the storage unit type which can be stored in that bin)
Storage unit type to storage bin type assignment this will take care that IP is not going to 1st level
EP ----B1,B2,B3
IP -----B2,B3

  • Problem with SUT into bin type table

    When in SPRO in strategy -storage unit type search strategy - SUT in bin type table,we have only 30 entries possible.
    BUt we need more somewhere like 150 records because of a bulk storage type with a lot of storage bins with different
    size and therefore capacity. To define true exact capacity we need different bin types right?
    I am not sure how to do this,maybe there is a option in settings to change 30 to 150 or 200 to make the table bigger?
    Or any other solution will be great because we do need this because in the way it works now,we have a lot of problems
    in putaway,we have huge realocations since we have not exact capacities but we had to group bins with similar capacity
    but that means that three bins with 48, 52 and 56 capactiy all have 52.

    If I remember correctly this has been asked numerous times before, try searching the discussions.
    Anyway, you have a couple of possible solutions for this.
    It is understandable that you don't want hundreds of reallocation on daily basis, and you don't want to lose the capacity otherwise, but it feels that your bins should and could have been planned a bit better, there is always a way to unify capacities, split bins, use the storage space in a more meaningful manner. This is the point where your optimization was supposed to be done, not in SAP. But anyway, you are stuck with what you have and here are the solutions that cross my mind.
    1. Standard SAP:
    Split the bins to multiple storage types, this way you will have 30 bin types, but they will have different capacity for different storage types (in OMM4). Easy and standard, but has the downside that you will have to manipulate with 5 storage types instead of 1. A bit of more customizing but will solve the problem. Also, storage type search will need to be changed to include all the STs... Might be harder to track the strategies but this is the only standard way that crosses my mind.
    2. ABAP:
    This is the solution I have used and works fine, though you will need an ABAP-er to complete this.
    Create a z-table/view having the same structure as the standard one, just add 120 more fields.
    Well, not only that, you will have to change the coding to use this custom table instead of standard one, and although this isn't the brightest solution since you won't be able to change this table in customizing in the predefined path in SPRO/OLML, but will need o do it in SM30.
    Luckily both of the options should work fine if done correctly, I have used both of these, and both have up and down sides... But I would go with standard SAP if it doesn't complicate your life too much because of several more STs. If it does, go with ABAP.

  • Storage Bin Type Search

    This question relates to teh storage bin type search.
    When a storage bin type is assigned to a number of different storage unit types, when the systen is trying to putaway a material, does it assign preferentially according to how storage unit types are listed in this table or when finding the next empty bin, does it simply check this table to make sure that the storage bin type is compatible with the storage unit type.  For example, if the storage unit type is a half pallet and the next empty bin can hold both a full pallet and a half pallet, will the system try and find a half pallet space or will it simply place the SU into the full pallet space.

    Hi,
    It will work like this in the material master palletization data you will assign the Storage unit type and in OMM1 you will assign  the storage unit type to the storage bin type (search criteria).
    So if you have HP, then in the storage type it is next empty bin it fin the FP and then HP, system will place it in the HP only.
    thanks,
    JK

  • Storage bin Type Change during TO creation

    Hi friends
    Is it possible to change Storage Bin type (Not Storage bin no)during Transfer Order (TO) creation in LT06 / LT04 ? If so please let em know the procedure to bring storage bin type during TO creation.
    Please confirm
    Rgds
    Madhavan

    Hi,
    Please check and try to define Storage Bin Type (SPRO->LE->master data->storage bins), then activate  Storage Bin type search strategy in OMM1.as appropriate. (in my past experience system given priority to Storage type search and then to Storage BIn type search during picking- I am not sure whether this is the SAP logic or priority).
    Once you define and assing the Storage bin type to Bins this will be available during creation of TO.
    Hope this helps.
    Thx

  • Storage bin type and storage unit type.

    Hi,
    Can anyone explain what is the differnce between the staorage bin type which is maintaine for storage bins and the storage unit type which is maintained in material master.
    Can any one correct me that My material storage unit type is maintained in TT and the storage bin for put awayis maintained in PC (storage bin type).
    is this the right way to be adapted.
    Sunil

    Hi,
    THe storage unit type is a description of how the material is stroed in the storage bin.
    Some bins may not able to allow a full pallet due to height restrictions,but a half-pallet may fit.so warehouse can define a storage unit type that defines a half-pallet and qty of the material that can fit on that half-pallet.
    Configuration menu path:IMG-logistics Execution-Warehouse Management-master data-material-define storage unit type.
    where as storage bin is the lowest level of storage defined in the warehouse.

  • Storage unit types and storage bin types  - Need

    Hi,
    i want to know what is the use of the storage unit type and storage bin type.
    thanks,
    Maxx

    Dear Maxx,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005vp/helpdata/en/c6/f844694afa11d182b90000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
    Storage Bin:
    A storage type generally contains several storage spaces or slots. These are called storage bins in Warehouse Management (WM). The storage bin is the smallest available unit of space in a warehouse. The storage bin therefore describes the position in the warehouse where the goods are or can be stored.
    Since the address of a storage bin is frequently derived from a coordinate system, a storage bin is often referred to as a coordinate. The coordinate 01-02-03 for example, can refer to a storage bin in row 1, stack 2, and level 3.
    You assign each storage bin to a specific warehouse number and storage type according to its location. You must also assign each storage bin to a storage section.
    You can also define the following additional characteristics of a storage bin:
    Maximum weight
    Total capacity
    Fire containment section
    Storage bin type (for example, for small or large pallets)
    With certain stock placement strategies, the storage bin type plays a significant role in optimizing the automatic search for a storage bin in connection with the pallet type. For example, you can define the WM putaway strategy to place large industrial pallets into a specific large bin type and smaller pallets into small bins.
    Storage Unit:
    In the system, a storage unit record consists of a header and at least one material data record (quant data record).
    The header contains information which is relevant for the entire storage unit and includes the:
    Storage unit number
    Storage unit type (SUT) of the storage unit
    Storage bin in which the storage unit is currently located
    Status, which provides current information about the storage unit
    Specific information about the stock contained in a storage unit is found in the material data record. The material record is already familiar to you in the existing system as a quant data record. For SU management, this information can be managed at the storage unit level.
    The following graphics illustrate how WM handles storage bins with and without the use of storage unit management. For these examples, storage bins are displayed in which 200 boxes of red pencils and 50 boxes of blue pencils are stored. The stock is distributed on two pallets.
    Hope this will help.
    Regards,
    Naveen.

  • Assigning storage bin type to storage unit type

    Hello guys,
    I would like to know the purpose of assigning the storage bin type to storage unit type in the storage bin type search table.
    Thanks,
    Maxx

    Hello Maxx,
    First let's understand what is the meaning of "Storage unit type"
      Storage unit type is type of pallet i.e. big pallet, small pallet, industrial pallets etc so all this pallets have standard sizes.
    Now let's understand what is the meaning of "Storage Bin type"
      Storage bin type the classification of storage bin according to their characteristic /size i.e. 1 meter bin, 2 meter bin , 4x2 bin etc
    Now if you have requirement that 1 meter bin should allow only small pallets not big pallet becuase it can not be fit in 1 meter bin so you can restrict this by assigning storage bin type to storage unit type.
    Hope this will help you to understand the concept for assigning Storage bin type to SU type.
    Regards
    Arif Mansuri

    Hi,
    Is your placement strategy for the storage type "B"? Is the factor of the stacks x stack height = No of SU's?

  • Storage bin type

    hello all
    I would like to know whether one bin type say for example a bin type e1 can be used for one material ( aluminium) which has  different structures like square, rectangle, round. Pl. post any documents or links related to it.
    Thanks,
    Maxx

    Hi All,
    Basically, the Storage Bin Type talks about the Bin Capacity (such as how many stacks you can have or how maximum you can store in the storage bin etc...)
    Bin type doesn't depend on the shape of the material (round or square or pie) as long as it fits into the bin, and you should be in a position to take the Bin dimensions.

  • Re :  No bin types have been assigned to storage unit type WM3

    Hai
             I am doing warehouse configuration. While creating transfer order i am getting the following error
    " No bin types have been assigned to storage unit type WM3 "
    How to solve this.
    Thanks
    Anto

    Hi,
    It seems there is some problem with configuration, check in the given path below for configuration.
    SPRO-IMG-Logistics execution-Warehouse management-Strategies-Activate Storage Bin Type Search,
    here in the first step you have to define storage bin types & in the next step you have assign it to your storage unit type.
    Bin types are when you have bin of different dimensions.

    Ravi Shankar.

  • SAP Warehouse Management change Storage Type Bin type while creating TO

    My requirement is to find an exits which allow us to change the Destination Storage Bin and storage type when creating Transfer orders through Inbound Deliveries.
    I have tried using "MWMTO003", "MWMTO004". But the problem here is that none of the funtion exits have both storage type and bin as exporting parameters.
    The exit "EXIT_SAPLL03A_001" has Destination bin (LTAP-NLPLA) as a changing parameter but not Destination storage type.
    I have activated the check box to trigger User exits using SPRO->LE->WhM->Master Data->Define Storage Type and Activate.
    I got a  BADI "LE_WM_STORAGETYPE_HU" with both Storage bin and type as changing parameters but then when I activate it and put a break point. My control never stops there.
    Kindly Suggest what is the correct User Exit required for this?
    Do i need two User Exits to change Storage Type and Storage Bin?
    Kindly provide how to approach.

    I managed to change the casetype now by
    1) Changing the corresponding SCMG_T_CASE_ATTR entry
    2) Changing the record model POID in the XML file of the case, by manually parsing and replacing the XML
    Still wondering if this is a valid approach, or if I've overlooked something...

  • Continuous inventory, exclude bin type

    Looking to see if there is a way to set up storage bins and have them be excluded from continuous inventory. I know you can exclude by storage type, but we have some bins that should be excluded from inventory counts that are in the same storage type as bins that need to be counted. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Jurgen,
    I had thought about that as well, but the problem is when they add more bins that may not need to be included in counts. It seems its a variant or move some bins to a different storage type that will not be included in inventory then. Thank you for the reply.

  • RTTI vs Compiler Type Identification (Casting?)

    Given:
    Class Super and two subclasses of Super, SubOne and SubTwo.
    Super has one method, doBeDooBeDoo()
    SubOne has one method, doThis()
    SubTwo has one method, doThat()
    Super a = null;
    if(foo) {
        a = new SubOne();
        a.doThis();
    } else if(bar) {
        a = new SubTwo();
        a.doThat();
    a.doBeeDoBeeDo();When I attempt to compile code like this, I receive a compiler error message indicating that class Super does not have a doThis method or a doThat method.
    Conversely, when I run the following code...
    Super a = null;
    a = new SubOne();
    System.out.println(a.getClass().getName());
    a = new SubTwo();
    System.out.println(a.getClass().getName());... I obtain the desired output of 'SubOne.class' and 'SubTwo.class'.
    My confusion stems from the fact that when a = new SubOne() fires, object 'a' is an instance of SubOne, not an instance of Super. It appears that the compiler isn't picking up on this fact (understandable, since it only happens at runtime).
    My questions:
    1) Am I understanding the problem correctly or am I off-track?
    1a) Am I misunderstanding the rules of casting in thinking that I can declare an object as being of one type and then instantiate it as a subtype?
    2) Is there a way to force the compiler to recognize the casting that takes place when Super s = new SubOne()?

    Thank you both for your replies - that helps to clear
    up some of my confusion. I settled with...
    Super a = null;
    if(foo) {
    a = new SubOne();
    SubOne sub = (SubOne)a;
    sub.doThis();
    } else if(bar) {
    a = new SubTwo();
    SubTwo sub = (SubTwo)a;
    sub.doThat();
    a.doBeeDoBeeDo();...which seems equivalent to guifrei's response, but
    somewhat more concise when the subclasses have a
    number of unique methods.what is the point of having variable a in type of superclass, if you are not using it?
    notiece that you are defining instances of your own subclass...
    instead of a = new SubTwo();SubTwo sub = (SubTwo);sub.doThat(); you would most likely like to use the one with casting...
    there is no point to assign value to a if you will end up using sub instead?!
    ok, there is that a.doobidoobido fing outside if's... that maybe...
    well.. actually i ment to write also about overloading your doBiDooBiDoo() method.
    if you have in SubOne and SubTwo methods that do different thing, but have the same name as their superclass, then you can call a.doBiDooBiDoo() outside if and else-if and the result will depend on values of foo and bar.
    and notiece that if you have line:
    super a = null;
    before these if statements, then in case foo and bar are false, you'll get nullpointerexception because a had no value...
    so consider valuateing a with not-null value (super a = super();)
    i hope i got some ideas from that, allthough i lost my point somewhere right before i started typing this...

  • Run-Time Type Identification question

    Let's say I have a class Chart and 2 subclasses BarChart. and LineChart. I have a method that takes in the type of chart to create as a parameter and then creates the appropriate chart. Something like:
    public void createChart(int type){
    Chart ch = ChartFactory.getChart(type); //type could be Chart.LINE or Chart.BAR
    //Line x
    Now, at Line x above, if I want to call a method that is specific to BarChart such as getBarWidth(), how would I go about it?
    Thanks.

    You're only going to call getBarWidth() in a context that knows it's dealing with a BarChart. The question is how to get your design in such a form so it doesn't have to say "If this is a BarChart then call getBarWidth()". I don't exactly know how you would do that but I suggest it should be your desire to do that.
    Let me give a crude example that may or may not have anything to do with your project.
    You display a chart and you want to give the user a panel of controls so they can tinker with the way it looks. Controls like the width of the bars in a bar chart, whether or not one of the pieces is offset from the others in a pie chart, the dottedness of the line in a line chart, and so on.
    In this case the factory should have a method that takes a chart type (or maybe a chart) and returns a panel of suitable controls. This panel will have only the controls that are suitable for that chart type, and it will be given a reference to a chart that it assumes is of that type.
    And similarly. Each time you feel like using instanceof, go back and see if you can't get the factory to do the work.
