"Bind" an application to desktop in Mission Control

I can't figure out how to "bind" an application to a specific desktop in Mission Control, like you could with Spaces. Anyone figure it out? I read that we're able to, I just don't know how. Help, please!

Assigning the desktop only seems to work for me for a particular document or session. Or perhaps some applications are not recognizing the setting properly. For instance, if I assign Pages to "This Desktop" whatever that may be, it only seems to apply to that particular document. If I open a Pages document from within Mail, that document will open in the same space as Mail instead of switching to whatever desktop I had previously assigned.
Similarly, if I set Pages to Full Screen, that applies only to that one document, and future documents won't group into a Pages full-screen Space.
Maybe I just don't understand this fully yet, but I'm a bit disoriented.

  • Desktop 1 Mission Control Application Windows

I recently upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion. The upgrade went perfect on my MacBook Pro. Here are my system specs:
    15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009
Processor  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
I noticed a strange behavior with Desktop 1 when I go to Mission Control. No matter if I open Mission Control *from* Desktop 1, or I move to Desktop 1 from another Desktop in Mission Control, the Application Windows that are open on Desktop 1 do not display.
Notice that the App Icons are displayed, but no Windows.
NO OTHER DESKTOP displays this behavior. Any ideas? Is there a cache I can delete to reset the Desktop/Mission Control?
    Thanks!

Note that this issue occured right after an OSX update, but was fixed after a reboot.

  • How do I get an App to display on all desktops in Mission Control?

How do I get an App to display on all desktops in Mission Control?
    I tried:
Right-Click on the icon in the Dock
    Options -> All Desktops
    This doesn't work.
The App was created using REALStudio.  Does this have any bearing on the issue?

Hi, if the App is in the Dock, right click, choose Options>Open at login.
Or System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window, drag the App there or click on the tiny plus icon to add it.

  • Safari does not open in any desktop of mission control.

Recently installed Lion on MacBookPro. By first start up of laptop, Safari is opened bu is ' floating ' around between the desktops. You can see a full screen background image of Safari when switching back and forth between desktops in Mission Control.
It only works when i first close-stop Safari , then in Mission Control choose and empty desktop and then open Safari.
Anyway knows how to solve this?
    thnx.

Take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar and have them evaluate it.  This is a free service.  They may tell you what needs to be fixed and the associated costs.  You are no obligated to to have them perform the repairs.  But you will have a better understanding of the problem(s).
    Ciao.

  • How to get Outlook to appear in only one desktop in mission control?

When I invoke Outlook it appears in every desktop of mission control. How can I make it be in just one? Same seems to be true of Safari.

I tried opening two files but selecting and hitting enter. it opens one SSMS and two tabs.

  • I'm Finding my Desktops misbehaving Mission Control

I'm having a problem with the desktops and apps in Mission Control. Opt-1 through 4 are to take me to one of my 4 desktops. Sometimes this gets all confused and say opt-2 takes me to Desktop 4. I'm also finding that when I tell an app to display in a certain desktop it might eventually move to a different desktop. Has anyone noticed/experienced this?

    Hello aPS...,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How can I switch the first desktop in Mission Control?

I can switch between all others just fine. I've messed around with Mission Control in System Preferences but I haven't found anything useful. Right now if I want to switch say the first and second desktop, I have to...
    enter mission control
drag app A from desktop 1 to desktop 2
    enter mission control
drag app B from desktop 2 to desktop 1
    enter mission control
drag app C from desktop 1 to desktop 2
    Which is extremely frustrating.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are trying to do because the dragging applications around is making me unsure. I'll give you some information and maybe that will help me help you.
You don't have to go to Mission Control and move applications to change desktops. Three ways to navigate between desktops:
    1. Hold down the control key and use the left/right arrows to change desktops.
    2. Open Mission Control and click on the desktop you want to have showing.
    3. Go to System Preferences/Keyboard, unlock if locked and select Mission Control. Check the boxes "Switch to Desktop X."
Two other possibilities I can think of:
    1. Do you want to assign applications to a certain desktop?
    2. Do you want the desktops to always be in the same order?

  • Why don't I see any of my application's classes in Mission Control?

    Hi Forum,
    My system: JRockit JVM version R28.0.0-679-130297-1.6.0_17-20100312-2123-windows-ia32, Oracle® JRockit Mission Control 4.0.0 (M4.0.0-20, 130319); JAX-WS annotated Web Services; EJB 3.0 annotated SLSBs;
When either analyzing the live remote WLS/OSB server through JRMC's management console, or viewing a previously-dumped jfr file in JRMC, how come I don't see any of my application's classes in any of the various traces (memory, gc, events, etc.)?
    The application's architecture is basically:
                             OSB
         (proxies, xquery transformations, biz svcs)
                              |
                             WLS
(jms, jax-ws, ejb, jdbc, jaxb)                         I've created and viewed a couple dozen jfr recordings. I've patiently trawled the management console traces. But I've yet to see any of my application's classes; nor any of the classes from the apis I've listed in my "WLS" layer above (jms, jax-ws, ejb, jdbc, jaxb).
All I ever see in JRMC's management console or in my flight recordings are either classes at the OSB infrastructure-related, or WLS container-related classes. Plus, of course, the usual JDK classes.
Based on the "Shows classes that take up more than 0.5% of the heap..." label I've seen displayed on the "Object Statistics/Heap Contents" tab, I've been assuming that my applications classes (plus those other api classes above) just don't take up more than half a percent of the heap. Is that right? If so, then that's "a good thing"! Right?
If I've assumed incorrectly, please can anybody fill me in on where to look, or how to see more application-related classes?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
That sounds really strange, I can't imagine how some classes could be filtered out. There is no filtering mechanism built into the JVM, the Management Console or Flight Recorder.
Are you 100.00% sure you are connected to the right JVM and that your application has loaded correctly?
I've been assuming that my applications classes (plus those other api classes above) just don't take up more than half a percent of the heap. Is that right? If so, then that's "a good thing"! Right?
There is a cut off around 0.5%, if it's good or bad thing depends on what your application is supposed to do :)
If you want to see all classes with the exact count you can use the Memory Leak Detector, but you have to go to Window -> Preferences-> JRockit Mission Control->Memory Leak Detector->Trend and set the instance count threshold to zero.
    Best regards
    Erik

  • Safari window opens automatically on every new desktop in Mission Control.

In mission control, when I swipe to a different desktop, Safari follows and automatically opens on that new desktop. How do I stop this? This does not happen if safari is in full window mode. I have reset Safari to no avail, and I have opened Safari with the shift key but neither action gets rid of this problem.

Ah, I figured it out. Right click on Safri icon in tray, choose options and Click "none" instead of "every desktop". That was well hidden!

  • Rename desktop in mission control

I am hoping there is a way to rename desktop spaces in Mission Control.  Is there anyway to highlight "Desktop 1, Desktop 2, etc" and change the names to "Editing, Browsing, etc?"

Does anyone know if this is something that might be made available in a later OS update? Or is there a process to follow to request such a feature formally with Apple?
This seems to be an incredibly basic requirement for desktop management, and as a brand new Mac user, I'm astonished that these types of features seem to be missing from so useful and friendly a management system!
I've written a couple of desktop managers myself (in Windows, hoick-ptui ) and one of the first things I was asked by users was to enable personalisation of all spaces.
Fingers crossed, this will be something to appear in the very near future...

  • Assigning Dock items to multi screen desktops on Mission Control (ML)

Right so I've recently bought a new rMBP.  I use it both in my studio where I hook it up to a Samsung external monitor which works fine, and outside in various offices and other locations.
On my previous MBP, which was running Snow Leopard, I used Spaces extensively across a variety of different apps/programmes.  I've started to use Mission Control, as a replacement of Spaces.  My only issue with it is when I connect it to my external monitor, I'd like to assign apps not just to specific desktops but also to specific screens within that 'mission control desktop'.
Eg. On spaces, I had Mail and Calendar assigned to one Space.  When connected to external monitor, I would move mail onto the external display and keep calendar on the laptop screen, so could effectively view both full screen on two different displays.  These settings seemed to stick when I turned the laptop off, or disconnected and reconnected it to the external screen.  With Mission Control however, it never sticks.  If the laptop goes off, disconnects from the screen, or even logs out, the mail and calendar app will be in the same 'Desktop', but they won't assign to the specific screens I want them to, and will just revert to the primary display 'Desktop', meaning I have to move the apps all over again across all my different Mission Control Desktops.
Is there a way to 'assign to this desktop' when working dual screen that sticks? Hope that makes sense. I've had a look throughout the support pages but haven't come across anyone with the same problem yet...
