Binding a VLAN to the WAN port

This is a Cisco SRP541W on the lasted firmware version.
I need to bind VLAN 10 (tag it as VLAN 10?) to the WAN interface to authenticate with my ISP, can't seem to find this in the interface and fear that this router may not be able to do it at all.
Any ideas?

I found a workaround. I'm using the pureMVC framework for my app. I assigned the creation of the pop up window within a mediator and I have the mediator listen for a notification that the app/stage has been resized. upon hearing that, the mediator tells the popup to resize.
Though it would still be nice to know how to bind the popup's dimensions to the stage's dimensions so I can let the Flex framework resize the component for me.

Can the AEBS untag a VLAN (802.1q) on the WAN port?

My modem (actually a fibre optical network terminal) provides a DHCP ethernet port. I would like to use my airport extreme for routing and wireless. Normally this would be a very simple setup, except the the modem requires all traffic to go over a specific VLAN (802.1q tagged). So, for this to work I would need the Airport to be able to untag/tag a specific VLAN on its WAN port. Is this possible?

I'll probably try to find the most minimal device that I can get to do transparent untagging of VLAN traffic. Not really sure where I might find that, but will start researching. I'd like to avoid using the current buggy router supplied by my ISP if at all possible!
I would suggest that you look at the various products provided by Cisco. FWIW I use a Cisco RVS4000 as my "main" router and have set up a number of VLANs for my home network with it.

RV Support VLAN Tagging on WAN Port?

I'd like to know if RV Series Router can support VLAN tagging on the WAN port itself? I need this cause my ISP using such method to connect to end user modem/router.

Anything available other than this RV315W? That model is only 10/100 on the LAN. VLAN on the WAN is fairly standard for fibre installs and should be a feature across all SMB routers.

Does the WAN port in client mode on the Airport Express?

On an Airport Express (2012 version, 802.11n), has anyone tried the following configuration? Is the WAN port active in client mode? Do you have any suggestions on this or similar configurations?
I am trying to use Airplay to stream music to two Klipsch G-17 speakers. As I have discovered and also documented by Apple on their web page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4587 in the section
"Connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network as part of a legacy WDS or Extended Network", this is true "Due to the overhead required for this configuration, you may expect AirPlay drop-outs such as intermittent loss of audio."
Configuration now:
All Airport Expresses are the 2012 802.11n version with a LAN and a WAN port.
There is one Airport Express in a home basement. It is connected to an Internet connection. This Internet connection goes into this home basement.
There is a second Airport Express on the second floor of this home.
Now, both Airport Expresses connect fine with the "extend network" option. There is wifi coverage throughout this home. All works fine until Airplay is used to stream music to these two Klipsch G-17 speakers. There are intermittent and persistent pauses. I am experiencing the what Apple documented in this kb article. I am not able to connect the two Airport Expresses with an ethernet cable. I cannot run a cable from the basement to the second floor.
Has anyone tried this following configuration? Or is there a different configuration that would work, and if so, could you provide the configuration details?
1. Connect the first Airport Express via client mode to the second, second floor Airport Express.
2. Set the network default gateway to the first, basement Airport Express.

If the Express joins a wireless network wirelessly, in other words its WAN port isn't connected to anything, the correct way to connect a wired client to it is by using its LAN port.
I don't know what would happen if you were to connect a wired client to its WAN port instead — it's just not supposed to be used for that purpose. It won't permanently break anything if you were to try it though. If you were, the worst that would occur is that your network would become unresponsive as packets continuously traverse its WAN port in a circular fashion, which might require that you power down your router to reset your whole network.
If you are already using your Express's LAN port and you need another, the way to provide more ports is to purchase an inexpensive ($10 or so) switch. Connect it to the LAN port and as many other pieces of equipment as the switch's available number of ports.
You're correct about the first generation with the single Ethernet port. It could be used in either capacity depending on its configuration.

You pretty much stated the correct wiring. There should be an Ethernet cable connected between the modem and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Express base station.

Macs with Filesharing Turned on Appearing on Networks Through the WAN Port

I am trying to find out why it is that Macs that have filesharing turned on are appearing on people's network even when they are not on the same LAN.
We run a small ISP in our town and have about 180 client sites that we service. I had a call from a client panicking because he could suddenly see unknown devices showing up in the Finder under Shared Devices. He could even see someone else's iTunes Library available for sharing, etc. This of course makes no sense, because although obviously all clients are technically on the same physical network, each client site has its own router, and is therefore behind a router.
(And please do not comment about people getting onto his Wi-Fi, or else the bug in the Mac OS that sometimes does not release devices from the shared devices section even after they are gone from the network. This is NOT any of these situations. Please read on...).
Initially I was convinced that he has opened up some port that he should not have. To test this I went to this client site, reset the router to clear any unwanted programming and plugged in my Mac directly into the WAN port of his router. And sure enough I appeared on his network. If I turned filesharing off, then I would disappear (which makes sense), but point is that with filesharing turned on, I seemed to be going through the router's firewall. Also interestingly enough, this penetration only seemed to be in one direction. That is WAN -> LAN, but not LAN -> WAN (I could not ever see any of HIS machines). Also, while I would appear on his network, I was not accessible by him. He could not actually connect to me.
Is this happening because of Bonjour? If so, can I block Bonjour by closing some ports or protocols? But I also do not want to do that if it will cause any other applications from getting through that should be getting through (although I do not understand why Bonjour should be broadcasting through a firewall anyway).

The best test I can suggest is to access when the Security Gateway is up and you are on the same LAN network as the ADT setup. If that works, unless the feeds are routed through some ADT server, the WAN side can be tested next. The ADT Gateway will not have a public IP for you to access. Do you have a link to a manual, or a the ADT model number of the gateway, so I can take a look at the setup guide?
The normal setup is
ISP <-> WAN IP <LAN Router/Gateway/Modem> <-> AEBS <Ethernet> ADT Gateway (LAN IP).
LAN IPs are typically hidden from the world and are private IPs like 192.168.1.x ro 192.168.0.x or 10.x.x.x or 172.16.x.x.

I'm re-building my home wireless network and I'm doing so in preparation for the Slingbox AV I ordered last week. Here's my current setup:
I have a DSL modem attached to an Airport Express (802.11n) in my office broadcasting my internet signal. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11g) set up in my living room as a WDS extender. I currently use the base station in my living room to connect the DishNetwork ViP722 DVR to the internet and allow me to set recordings remotely on my iPhone when I'm away from home. I use the LAN port on the base station to do this, and now with the Slingbox on the way (should be here early next week), I'm wondering what I need to do to make an internet connection available for the Slingbox AV.
My question: Will I be able to simply use the WAN port as a "LAN" port since the Airport Extreme Base Station is being used as a WDS? It'd be awesome if the WAN port would become, essentially, a LAN port since it isn't being used.

I'd be surprised if that worked. The operation of an AirPort base station depends on keeping the WAN port and the LAN port(s) separate, as those normally are on two different networks.
You might consider buying an Ethernet hub or switch, which would allow your AirPort Extreme's LAN port to be shared. Here's an example of an inexpensive one:

What does the green led on the WAN port indicate?

Does it indicate that there is a PHYSICAL connection or there is activity? If you have a bad cable between the modem and the WAN, will the WAN led light up? If the modem isn't operating correctly, will the WAN led light up?
The reason I ask...I have two Airport Extremes. The green led on the WAN port started acting finicky on the first one (the internet is down whenever the WAN led isn't lit). I could jiggle the ethernet cable just right and it would come back on. I changed ethernet cables, no change. I decided the WAN port must have a bad connection internally, so I switched over to the second Extreme. Same problem. It is highly unlikely that two Extremes have the exact same problem. If I could figure out what that green led on the WAN port actually means, I could diagnose this a little better.
To make it worse, I have an ISP that loves to blame Apple for all their internet problems, so I need hard proof that something may be wrong with their modem.

Both. A solid green light indicates that there is a "live" connection on the other end of the cable. Network activity will be indicated by a flashing green light.

Possibly. A malfunctioning modem may still provide a solid connection and thus the light may still be lit, but no flashing to indicate that there is no activity on the connection.

Since you already tried multiple cables and multiple base stations, I would tend to believe the issue is with the ISP's modem.

Isn't it fun trying to do things without an ethernet cable direct to the computer.. Apple sell a usb to ethernet adapter cable fairly cheap.. makes life a lot easier having something to do hard connections.. or as hard as usb can manage.
Since you have to access the TC by wireless .. press and hold the reset button on the TC for about 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. don't worry about the ethernet cable.. leave it disconnected.
Now click on the airport symbol and join another network. The TC should revert to its home name.. which will be a combo of Time Capsule and its MAC address. There is no wireless security and you can do the setup.

WRT350n - what is the WAN port speed?

Virginmedia in the UK have 50mb download capability now which I am interested in purchasing. I have been advised to check that my current router (wrt350n V2 v2.00.18 firmware) is capable of handling that speed on it's WAN port prior to signing up. It's not clear on the data sheet if the WAN port is gigabut ehternet capable, same as the 4 ethernet ports, and I wanted to ask just to be absolutely sure.
Any help or clarification gratefully received.

As the Router which you have its an Giga bit Wireless Router, and all the LAN port on the Back of the Router are the Giga bit LAN Ports. Your Router will work with 50mb speed, and you should be able to go online from all your Computers.

RV042 doesn't receive an IP-address from my ISP on the WAN port

I have a problem with my WAN ports. I can´t obtain a ip adress from my ISP.
I´ve tried factory reset.
Upgrade to lateset firmware.
Clone MAC adress from my PC.
Nothing is working.
But when I plug the WAN port into my Old router it receives an adress directly.
When I plug the ISP connection directly into my pc or the old router it´s working as well.
I using the latest firmware:
RV0XX-v4.1.0.02-tm.bin
And My ISP has an interface with an ADSL modem SmartAX with DHCP.

Hello Ola,
You will most likely need to clone the MAC address of your PC to get this to work. The Modem is not releasing the IP address to the new Router.
Procedures for Cloning a MAC address.
•1.       Disconnect router from Modem.
•2.       Connect Computer to Modem and go to Internet.
•3.       Connect same computer to Router. (Do Not connect router to Modem, and Do not reboot modem.)
•4.       Log into the Router and clone the MAC from the Computer used in the previous step.
•5.       Plug the Router into the Modem.
If that doesnt work check to see if the modem has a selector for MDI/MDIX and switch the selector.

Using the WAN port as a LAN port?

Hi everyone,
sorry for not doing a search, but search isn't available at the moment.
I have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (n) and need to extend my network with an AirPort Express (g) so that the APX connects wirelessly to the AEBS and allows wired clients on its Ethernet port. I've read that this port can be set to WAN mode (default), but also can be used as a LAN port to provide access for AirPort-less clients.
I'm wondering now
1) if this is correct and possible at all?
2) if this will work with my older (g) APX or only with the current (n) model?

Yes that will work. Configure the 802.11g AirPort Express (AX) and AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to connect wirelessly using WDS. Then the AX's Ethernet port will be enabled for use by your Mac without a wireless card.

Can I use the WAN port on my AirPortExpress to extend my WiFi from my Time Capsule?

OK folks, here's what I want to do. I have a Time Capsule not only supplying WiFi, but also connected to the ethernet in my home. What I want to do is use the ethernet to connect my AirPort Express and extend the WiFi signal. I've tried various settings configurations and the closest I get is a duplicate network. This causes problems for Home Sharing of iTunes accounts to my 2 Apple TV's, one that is connected to ethernet and the other WiFi. Plus, it seems to confuse our iPhones and another WiFi computer from time to time.
So can this even be done, is there another option I'm missing? We are trying to use this in a room for the AirPlay feature and the original WiFi signal drops pretty regularly, so moving it closer to the TC is a last resort.

Hi - if what you want to do is have the Express produce a wireless network with a new name then you need to configure it in the following way - it should be set to connect via ethernet in bridge mode and set to "create a wireless network" with a new name and password of your choice - if you need specific steps let me know.
