Binding to server on a separate VLAN

Set up a new network today in an IT lab where the clients had all successfully been bound to a Snow Leopard server for Open Directory authentication and Home Folders. My engineers want to put servers on a separate VLAN with clients on DHCP and the server on static.
The clients see the server in the Network Account Server set up (Login Options) - the 'light' went green - but they failed to authenticate.
We had to put them all on the same VLAN for now - it works but it is not what we wanted
Can anybody help?

Sure it can be done but you need a router running I think enterprise software that supports appletalk routing . Take a look at the layer 3 device which does your current routing between vlans and see if it supports appletalk routing . then you need to setup appletalk on all your layer 3 definitions which involves assigning a cable range and zone name for each subnet (vlan). Of course your clients have to be running appletalk (ethertalk) , can't be windows pc's though I'm not sure if there are any appletalk emulators out there for windows. Not many people use it anymore.

  • Help. How to configure ASA5515 as 'one armed router' for access to DHCP server on a different VLAN

    Hi,
    My setup
         router > ASA5515(ver8.6) > 4 SGE2010p switches
I want to put the guest WiFi users on a separate network. I have layer 2 switches and want to configure the ASA5515 as a 'router on a stick' setup for the guest vlan to have access to the DHCP server on the native vlan.
    I have
    1. created a sub-interface for the inside interface and enabled intra-interface traffic.
    2. A static route on the ASA point the guest network to the switch.
What else do I need to configure on the ASA for inter-vlan routing?
    ASA related config:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
     nameif inside
     security-level 100
     ip address 10.15.xx.1 255.255.252.0 standby 10.15.xx.2
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1.2
     vlan 100
     no nameif
     no security-level
     ip address 10.100.xx.1 255.255.255.0
    C    10.15.xx.0 255.255.252.0 is directly connected, inside
    S    10.100.xx.0 255.255.255.0 [1/0] via 10.100.xx.2, inside

Thanks for the quick response Reza.
Actually that command is already there. Didn't include it in my post.
So I am guessing my ASA config is correct.
I am having trouble setting up the trunk ports on the layer2 SGE2010P switch for trunk port.
I am used to command line layer3 switches (CLI is wasy) but not familiar with these switches GUI. I am going through the config guide right now.
Could you help me with that too?
Not to bother you with a completely different issue though.
    Thanks again!

  • Separate VLAN for CAPWAP

    Hello,
I'm in the process of deploying a WLC2504 in an eviroment  which requires a private VLAN for access to file servers and other network resources, as well as a guest network for internet access.
As far as performance is concerned, will I get acceptable throughput on my WLANs with the CAPWAP tunnel flowing over the same subnet as the private network? I've seen some suggestions that recommend a separate VLAN dedicated to CAPWAP, but I don't know if this is just a suggestion for security. I understand that CAPWAP supports encryption of control messages, but not data transmissions without additional licensing. If this is just a suggestion for security, I don't think this is much of a concern. I don't see anyone on the private network intercepting guest transmissions. Could someone please advise me on this?

Thanks for your clarification guys! I'm in the process of installing my fist CUWN. We are implementing 10 APs and have dealt with a few issues, namely throughput for laptops. I knew other factors could definitely come into play, but I wanted to rule topology out. Laptops are currently pulling very low internet speed tests results, whereas mobile devices seem to fare much better. I've tried testing with mostly 2.4 GHz connections from laptops, but even the 5GHz seem to struggle. I'm working with the Cisco TAC a bit on this one. Per their suggestion, I'm going to run Iperf to test internal performance before I involve network firewalls and Internet connectivity in the mix.

    Hi Experts,
We need to set up a BO MOBI with BOE and Mobile server on two separate servers.
In such a configuration, how does the two servers communicate?
What should be the VAS and VMS server configurations? especially the external hostnames in the files?
We are looking for a non Blackberry(proxy) deployment.
We have installed the software, however the windows services of Authserver and the Job servers are not available in the mobile server instance
Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • Separate vlan for wireless voice

Hi all, I'm about to embark on reconfiguring my home lab, at present I have just 2 vlans which are for VoIP and data, I'm going to split my network so I have the following:
Data VLAN for our home PC's
    Voice VLAN for phones
1 wireless VLAN for home laptops
1 wireless VLAN for games consoles
1 wireless guest access so I don't have to give out my own ssid credentials
    1 Management VLAN
My question is do I have a separate VLAN for wireless VOIP or do I just use the same Voice VLAN?
    Regards
    Martyn
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

    Martyn:
Both solutions are valid. You can use the current voice VLAN or create a new VLAN.
If you create a new VLAN you need to apply needed QoS to wired side as well.
If your current Voice VLAN is already configured for QoS then using it for wirelss voice is easier.
So the preffered option is to use your current voice VLAN for wireless voice as well.

  • How to enable directory binding in Server Admin?

    Running Server 10.4.9
I cannot enable directory binding in Server Admin.
The checkbox becomes un-ticked upon save.

    Hi marc
There must be something in the way you have configured your Server that is preventing this from happening. I maintain two OD Master servers at a remote site and both of them do not have your problem. I don’t know of any Terminal commands that control directory binding and there seems to be no reference to it in the Terminal Manual 2nd Edition. However, that does not mean there won’t be one. Both servers I administer do not have ‘require clients to bind to directory’ ticked, but do have Enable directory binding ticked. These settings seem to have been set this way when promoting from Standalone to Open Directory Master once DNS and DHCP were configured and running as Services. By the way all settings in this part of Open Directiry I can access and modify with no problems on both servers.
Is DNS being supplied by another server as well as authentication eg: from an AD KDC? Also how do you connect to your Server using Server Admin? Do you use the .local name or its IP address? Have you tried using the FQDN?

  • VMWare: 1 Oracle installation per virtual server, or 1 separate install

The scenario is that we are going to put our support benches on VMware.
The question is: should we have 1 oracle installation per virtual server or a separate virtual server for oracle.
If we go for the 1 oracle installation per virtual server, this mimics our customer environment.
If we install oracle separately, then we have to run two virtual machines. One for Oracle(with one instance per customer) and one for the Product which connects to the appropriate instance.
Looking at it I'm inclined to go for the 1 orcale installation per virtual server, as this will allow for easier maintenance and upgrade paths.
Apart form disk space , are there any other drawbacks?
Are there any advantages to having oracle on a separate virtual machine?

VMWare is not supported for Oracle, so if this is to mimic a customer environment, then you should be aware of this. In my personal experience I have not seen any noticeable difference from the testing and learning point of view.
Installing Oracle on VMWare at the end of the day will consume the resources of the server where the VM is hosted, so it is all up to the CPU and memory resources you have in your host server. A drawback is the hard disk speed, the lower the more noticeable performance reduction, so be aware of this. It is advisable, you should make sure you have installed the VMWare tools.

  • DHCP Setup across multiple VLANs on RV325 - DHCP Server only working on VLAN 1

I have multiple VLAN subnets defined on my RV325 - when I try and utilize a DHCP Server on each VLAN, it only seems to be issuing IP Addresses to clients on VLAN ID 1.  When I first set this up months ago, I thought I had tested it providing IP Addresses via the other subnets.  Now that I am trying to do so, it isn't working "as expected".  Example - I am using VLAN 25 as the GuestWireless subnet utilizing a separate 802.11n WAP that is set to Bridge connections to the IP Address of the VLAN interface.  Devices are able to connect to the WAP, but end up with a self-assigned IP Address 169.x.x.x address.  There has to be an easy fix to this, but I seem to be "stuck" figuring out what it is…pointers/redirects appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks - I've already reviewed that information before I posted.  I've been working with DHCP since the mid-90's, so I'm comfortable with the settings/configuration I need to leverage to make this work via other means using various Network-based OSes.
I'm wondering if there are other options in configuring this device that can impact the ability to dynamically serve IP addresses on a VLAN/subnet-by-VLAN/subnet basis.
As I did more testing, I discovered when I reserved an IP Address via the IP & MAC Binding option within the DHCP Settings, those devices would receive their static reservations and work as expected, so the problem seems to be leveraging the DHCP Pool for devices connecting to VLANs other that VLAN 1.
Any ideas as to why the DHCP Pool's are "non-functioning" for the other VLANs is greatly appreciated...
Each VLAN is setup with a separate DHCP Server configuration as shown below:
    VLAN ID = 1 (Default, Inter VLAN Routing = Enabled, LAN1-6 = Untagged, LAN7=Tagged, LAN8=Excluded, LAN9-14 Untagged)
    Device IP Address = 172.16.xxx.1

Correctly serving IP Addresses via DHCP (both static and dynamic) to Wired devices & Wireless devices connecting through WAP (set to Bridge)
    VLAN ID = 25 (GuestWireless, Inter VLAN Routing = Disabled, LAN1-LAN7 = Excluded, LAN8 = Untagged, LAN9-14 = Excluded)

NOT serving dynamic IP Addresses via DHCP to Wired devices & Wireless devices connecting through WAP (set to Bridge)
Static DHCP Reservations setup via IP & MAC Binding settings DO WORK in terms of providing the assigned static IP Address to the client.  Inbound/Outbound traffic to Internet works for devices with Static DHCP Reservations.

  • Error calling Report and unable to bind Report Server

    Hi,
I use Oracle Database 10g with Oracle Developer 10.1.2, in Windows 2000.
I don't have nor use Oracle Application Server though.
I tried to call a report from a Form, using Run_Report_Object.
    But the following error appeared.
Error FRM-41213 Unable to connect to Report Server rep_<computer_name>
I also tried to call a report, using Web.Show_Document.
It launch another web browser, but the following error occured
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
Based on the white paper of Oracle Application Server 10g - Integrating Oracle Reports in Oracle Forms Services applications.
I create my own report server using following command
    rwserver server=repsrv.
Another java-based windows showed up. It shows that the server 'repsrv' is ready.
    I do the following:
    1. Navigate to http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet using web browser.
It showed OracleAS Report Services - Servlet Command Help page.
But there is no other window popup (The white paper stated that a 'in process' server
should be invoked when starting a report for the first time).
    2. Navigate to http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?userid=PRACTICE/PRTC@MYDB&report=C:\PRACTICE\FORM\MODULE1.JSP&destype=cache&desformat=html&paramform=no&p_1=P1&p_1=P2
my schema is PRACTICE, password PRTC and database instance MYDB
    the report path = C:\FORM\MODULE1.JSP
    The following error occured
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
    3. Finally, I tried
    http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?server=REPSRV&userid=PRACTICE/PRTC@MYDB&report=C:\PRACTICE\FORM\MODULE1.JSP&destype=cache&desformat=html&paramform=no&p_1=P1&p_1=P2
    The following error occured
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server repsrv failed
    I don't understand.
It seems that the Report Service is not recognized although the java-based window state that the Report Server (repsrv) is ready.
    My questions:
    1. Does it means that my report server is not running?
Or it is running but the web browser didn't recognize it?
I use Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 7, both of them showed the same error message.
    2. The paper said there is supposed to be 2 type of server, 'In process' and custom server.
Both of them will create a configuration file in /reports/conf in DevSuiteHomeDirectory.
I can see the custom report server's configuration file which I create using rwserver
    (repsrv.conf)
but I can't see the 'in process' server's configuration file (rep_<computer_name>.conf).
What am I supposed to do?
    3. Is there any steps with I supposed to do after the installation?
Well, I didn't find any error during the installation, everything seems to be just fine.
Perhaps, I need to modify some files, specifya report server name,
create the 'in process' server manually.
    Many thanks,
    Imelda

    Hi,
I have already tried your suggestion.
Since I am in Windows 2000 platform, so I do the first suggestion from the documentation.
If the host machine is not in a network (that is, it is a standalone machine).
Solution for Windows platform: Install the MS loopback adapter, as described on the Miscrosoft Web site (http:\\microsoft.support.com). Then, specify an IP address for your machine (either XP or Windows 2000), as follows:
    1. On your desktop, right-click My Network Places, and choose Properties.
    2. Right-click the MS loopback adapter, and choose Properties.
    3. In the Properties dialog box, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.
    4. Select Use the following IP address, and enter a valid IP address. The subnet mask field will automatically populate. Do not use the local host IP (that is, 127.0.0.1). For example, enter: 198.162.1.1.
    5. Click OK, and follow the instructions displayed.
There is also solution for UNIX platform.
But I do the Solution for Windows platform only.
But still I've got the following error message :
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
And in the command line of OC4J which I started, the following error appeared :
Not able to load oracle.reports.util.EnvironmentGlobal class
    Using oracle.reports.util.Environment class
    BTW,
I also tried to use the command lin rwrun :
    rwrun report="D:\My Documents\TryReport\module1.jsp" userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname="D:\My Documents\TryReport\module1.pdf"
And somehow a PDF file appeared.
It contains the output of the report I created.
It exactly the same as the preview of the web layout which is run from Report Builder (Run Web Layout CTRL-R).
Could this mean that the In-Process server is running?
Perhaps the browser did not understand how to connect to Report Server?
Is there anything should be done?
Should I also do the Solution for UNIX platform? (Mine is Windows)
And, why for Oracle Form (running as a servlet), everything seems to be normal?
Does the Oracle Form use different server from Oracle Report?
The problem is only when I tried to call report using a button inside Oracle Form.
    (Run_Report_Object and Web.Show_Document)
    Any light would be grateful.
    Many thanks,
    Buntoro

  • How to connect to external server using router from VLAN's

Hi, I am newbie. I am trying to build network system in Packet Tracer.
Now I have such network layout.
I have different VLAN's Accounting and Sales. I have configured this using subinterface in router to allow computers from different vlan's communicate with each other. Everything works.
Let's assume that there are next subnets and VLAN's. Acct. VLAN (2) (ip's 172.168.0.1-172.168.0.254/24) and Sales VLAN (4) (ip's 172.168.1.1-172.168.1.254/24).
But I need to connect all this computers to the external server.  That has ip , for instance 192.168.20.13/24. Like this.
I don't know hot to correctly configure router to make it possible for computers to connect to this server. I have connected switch to the another router interface. And than connected server to the switch and specified ip 192.168.20.13/24. Than I tried to set ip to the router interface from the same subnet like 192.168.20.22/24. So now router can communicate with server.
But how to allow computers to communicate with the server. Please help. I am newbie.
I would be grateful for any help.

    Hi Androgen,
One question for you..How does the sales VLAN computers communicate with the accounting VLAN machines? It's through the inter-VLAN routing that you have already setup.
Communicating to the external server is also similar to this.
The computer's in the VLAN should be configured with the default gateway IP which is the the L3 sub-interface IP for that subnet.
Also, the external server needs to have a default gateway to communicate with other remote subnet. The default gateway of that server would be 192.168.20.22 which is the L3 interface for your external subnet.

  • RVS4000 DHCP server on all but VLAN 1 broken in v1.3.2.0

I'm trying so subdivide my home network into VLANs to split Jumbo Frame capable devices from the rest.
Using the preinstalled 1.3.0.5 version I could configure this correctly. After upgrading to v1.3.2.0 the DHCP server on any VLAN (except 1) no longer responds to DHCP requests.
I have tried going back to factory defaults and rebuilding the config step by step but this did not help.
Has anyone else come across this issue?
    Setup:
    Port 1 (VLAN 1) - laptop 100Mbps
    Port 2 (VLAN 1) - Down
    Port 3 (VLAN 2) - NAS 1Gbps
    Port 4 (VLAN 2) - PC 1Gbps
VLAN1 is configured as 192.168.1.0/24, VLAN2 is configured as 192.168.2.0/24.
    (Originally I tried 192.168.1.0/25 and 192.168.1.128/25).

Well - my update for the day...
Fully charged last night and unplugged. Woke up to about 24 minutes usage which is ok. PUSH and used a little before retiring for the night. This morning, I left 3G and PUSH on as well as GPS. I don't live in a 3G area so until I got into the "city", I didn't have 3G. So my short trip through town did use 3G and tested for a short time(at a red light). At work I don't have 3G in my office so all day was EDGE. I do listen to the iPod both ways to work and some at work. Anyways, before leaving work I had about 4 hours usage and about 60 percent battery left. A little lower than I am used to but liveable. On the way home I made a few stops, hammering on the 3G with a passion. Before I got home, I was below the 20 percent warning...All for about 40 minutes of usage between GPS, iPod, and 3Ging.
Bottom line - the 3G experience was very power hungry. More than I can remember with my other 3G devices that I have owned.
I think Apple has some tuning to do and they probably know it now. I have no regrets as I wanted the GPS more than the 3G. Doesn't suck power? I am sure it does to some degree but I don't intend to use for constantly on door to door(even it doesn't do this). I would power via my car anyways if I did.
Basically, many have said to turn off the 3G when not being used. I agree . I wish there was a fast way to turn on and off as it is numerous clicks deep. When you know you need some "umph" to your connection, turn it on and get after it.
I am sure there will many posts similar to this one as expected.
    Hope this helps.

  • ACE30-MOD-k9 in bridge mode. Individual server in the same vlan of Real Servers not reacheable.

I configured ACE30-MOD-K9 in bridge mode and I configured a server farm with his real servers. The traffic passes and is balanced correctly between all RSERVER. But I can not contact a server that is on the same vlan of the serverpharm but doesn't belong at this serverfarm.

    Hi Francesco,
Just to add more a bit, A bridge group is very similar to routed mode except ACE cannot NAT pass through traffic, vlan's cannot be shared and couple of other things but client's should be able to access the server as in before.
But also whether in bridge or routed mode, ACE does create flows and applies other security parameters if configured to the traffic. This is for security. Also, ACE should know the MAC of the device to forward the traffic to. Can you check if ACE has the MAC of the destination? You can also put a route for testing purpose and see if that resolves the issue. That should probably be the quickest way to check if ACE is creating any issue here.

  • JMS queue hes been binding during server startup but  not looking up

    Hi,
I have created a queue connection factory as jms/AlertACF and destination resources as jms/AlertQueue with properties
    key : imqDestinationName
    value : AlertQueue
    and
    Physical destination as AlertQueue.
I have applied all the changes to the server instance and restrated the server instance. In the log file the startup message like
    [08/Aug/2006:11:58:05] INFO ( 5768): JMS5015: Install JMS resources ...
    [08/Aug/2006:11:58:06] INFO ( 5768): JMS5002: Binding [< JMS Destination: jms/AlertQueue, javax.jms.Queue, [ imqDestinationName=AlertQueue ] >]
[08/Aug/2006:11:58:06] INFO ( 5768): JMS5002: Binding [< JMS Connection Factory: jms/AlertACF, javax.jms.QueueConnectionFactory, No properties >]along with few other messages about ejb's uploaded successfully...
Now, when I run my test case to test the JMS service, i am getting
    [08/Aug/2006:12:03:39] INFO ( 5768): CORE3282: stdout: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: jms/AlertQueue.........
can anybody help me out in this.......
    Thank you very much

  • Binding Exchange server to Open Directory

So I am setting up an exchange 2010 sandbox machine to see how feasible the install and usage of the software is within the company. When running through the installation it wants the exchange server machine to be bound to an active directory. Well I dont have any active directory servers all I have is our open directory. How can I tie in the exchange binding to the open directory? I have heard about integrating between OD and AD but it seems like it requires yet another AD machine.
    Any thoughts? Success Stories?

The answer is to remove the local KDC on the 10.5 clients. 10.5 uses the LKDC for personal file sharing - not needed for networked clients.
Run the following commands to kill LKDC before binding the machine to Open Directory:
    sudo dscl /Local/Default delete /Config/KerberosKDC
    sudo rm -rf /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/config/KerberosKDC.plist
