"Bing" has become default search engin, want "Google" back, how 2 do it.

I have "google" as my default search engine in IE preferences, USED to be in firefox also, a few days ago, "bing" shows up as search engine. I cannot find "bing" under ANY program stuff anywhere to remove it. What happened, and how do I get "google" back? Even if I type in "google" in the location bar & hit "enter' it switches back to "bing."

1)enter " about:config " in mozilla address bar
2)type "babylon" or "bing" in search box
3)reset all the search results (right-click on the result)
4)type "keyword.url" in search box
5)right click on the keyword.url - modify
6)copy &paste "http://www.google.com/search?hl=en-GB&q= " for google as default search engine

Just can't get rid of it on my PC. I am using the XP Pro OS on a HP workstation running MS Small Office 2007 Office suite. Have considered going to Chrome but would dearly miss my Firefox.

    1. GO TO THE TOOL BAR WHERE IT SAYS SAFARI AND CLICK TO BRING DOWN THE MENU OF OPTIONS, CLICK ON PREFERENCES
2.INSTEAD OF JUST CLICKING ON THE GENERAL TAB AND CHANGING THE SEARCH ENGINE LIKE EVERY OTHER STUPID SUPPORT TELLS YOU TO DO LOOK AT THE TAB THAT SAYS EXTENSIONS.
    3. Chances are you downloaded something that was made by a third party to "enhance" your web experience but really they just screwed you over, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO SIMPLY UNINSTALL ANY EXTENSIONS PUT ON YOUR COMPUTER BY CLICKING INSTALL, BUT TO BE SURE THAT THIS IS THE ROOT OF YOUR PROBLEM IN THE SECOND COLUMN SIMPLY CLICK ON THE UNDERLINED NAME OF WHO THE EXTENSION IS MADE BY IF CLICKING THE LINK BRINGS UP A YAHOO PAGE THIS IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR ISSUES AND SIMPLY UNINSTALLING THIS WILL RID YOU OF THIS  DUMB PROBLEM!!
    HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!

  • Change default search engine to Google uk

Hi. Can someone please tell me how to change my default search from Google.com to google.co.uk? I've an iPhone 4s, latest software etc, location services is on, all safarI settings are correct. I live in the UK. Currently, whenever I search google, it goes to google.com and I then have to click 'more' from the menu, then click 'search tools' then select Any Country and click 'Search: the U.K.'. There has to be a way to change this but I'm struggling to find it. Your help will be much appreciated. Many thanks, Sue

If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! (Such as automatically deleting Flash cookies.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

  • How do I change my default search engine from Google to Start Page?

I don't like to use Google because there are privacy issues which Google is only too happy to violate and hand over to parties I do not want.
I want to be able to use StartPage instead of Google when I type something in the URL space and I want StartPage to be my default home page (already is), default small box search (already is) and defalut search engine (which it is not).
    Thanks!

    See:
Note that starting with Firefox 23 it will no longer be possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.
In Firefox 23+ the search engine used in the location bar is the search engine that is selected in the Search Bar.<br />
You can consider to use a (one letter) keyword search for searching via the location bar.<br />
You can set a keyword for an installed search engine via Manage Search Engines (click the search engines icon on the search bar).

  • Aol Search has become the search engine and I cannot get rid of it

I have Google as my search engine but as soon as I ask a question Aol Search pops up and I dont like its searches. I tried to remove from Task bar but not there and cannot seem to find anyway to get rid of it.

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type '''''About:Config'''''.
If a warning screen comes up, press the '''''Be Careful''''' button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter '''''browser.newtab.url'''''
    and press enter. '''''browser.newtab.url'''''
tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened.
If you want, right click and select '''''Modify'''''. You can change the
setting to;<BR><BR>about:home (Firefox default home page),<BR>
about:newtab (shows the sites most visited),<BR>
    about:blank (a blank page),<BR>
or you can enter any web page you want.<BR><BR>
The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as
    '''''browser.startup.homepage'''''.

  • Want to make google my default search engine in safari

When doing a search today on my ipad, I inadvertently checked a box asking to have yahoo become default search engine. I didn't realize until it was too late. I want to go back to using google for search when I have safari open. Don't seem to see a way to change back to google. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

Thank you so much. Somehow I got on yahoo search, no one else was able to give me an answer!  This was so simple!

  • Safari won't make Google my default search engine. + Top Sites issue.

    hello
I am running 10.9.5, latest iMac, latest Safari.
Here's my issue. Safari won't make Google my default search engine.
I switched it in preferences, and it says the default search engine is 'Google', as well as saying it even saying 'Google' in the Toolbar text field.
However the results always come back in Yahoo. I've tried resetting Safari, opening and closing the app but no luck.
Also I have it set to show 24 Top Sites, but it only displays 12 and it's been stuck on the same 12 sites for 2 days.
I'm assuming these two might be related as they are both preferences which stubbornly refuse to save as defaults.
Any one else having these issues? Anyone know how to fix?
    Thanks!
    ;D

  • In "Options" I do not have a default search engine and does not let me install one, how do I resolve it?

I don't have any serch engine, and if I want to install it from the web page, i click the "+ Add to Firefox" icon and it doesn't do anything. Also, if I write a web adrees at the adress bar, it doesn't work.
I've already tried to uninstall and install it again, and it doesn't fix it.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
You can delete the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
You can find the full version of the current Firefox 36.0.4 release in all languages and for all operating systems here:
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check for problems caused by extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • Why is there no default search engine in search box ?

I have reset Firefox but the searchbox at the top right hand side has no default search engine or any others so I cannot do a search.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
