  • Virus 'flagged' file in Windows 7 Bios Update...HELP !!

I just finished updating some Windows 7 Bios files....one of the files: C:\PROGRAM FILES\LENOVO\SYSTEM UPDATE\UNCSERVER.EXE" was flagged as Malware by my AVG Virus program and I put it in the Virus Vault.
Then the installation of that update showed it couldn't find that flagged file and so cancelled that update.
I continued on with the other updates and installed them, BUT I wonder if that file is really Malware and whether to restore it and try that update again.
I don't want to infect my computer with a virus, but I wonder if a Windows Update would contain a contaminated file...
    HELP !!!

    Hello,
You did not say what version of the signature database is being used by your antivirus software, or the name of the threat it detected, so it is difficult to tell for certain, but I uploaded the UNCSERVER.EXE file from my ThinkPad W510 to VirusTotal, a multi-engine virus scanning service, and it reported the file as being clean.  Report here.
I suspect it is a false positive alarm, but you should check with your antivirus vendor's own technical support department to confirm.

  • Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X - TouchPad stopped working, BIOS update does not help

I have a Satellite Pro L300-EZ1004X laptop. Few days ago TouchPad stopped working. This is not a Fn + F9 issue.
In Device Manager it looks like hidden device and has (!) on it. Re-installing Synaptics drivers, updating them, removing the device in Safe Mode - nothing works. (TouchPad did not work in Safe Mode). One of the forums mentioned BIOS update. For some strange reason the latest BIOS for this specific laptop is from 2008 (ver. 1.5). Other L300 laptops have option to update BIOS to ver. 2.20 (2010) but not mine! I tried to load it (ver. 2.20)from Windows and from boot disk without success. I installed BIOS ver. 1.5. After reboot - keyboard stop working! And TouchPad ... still dead and still appears as hidden device. Using external mouse I restarted the laptop and get into the BIOS settings. In Advanced Settings disabled TouchPad completely. KEYBOARD START WORKING IN WINDOWS!!!
Any suggestions on how to make this TouchPad to work? Or how to get newer BIOS for this Laptop?
    Thank you in advance!

Sounds like it has died, you can purchase a new one from a parts supplier and pay someone to install it or if you are any good with such things you can try to do it yourself.  I suggest just sticking with the external mouse.

The problem I am having is regarding making adjustments in the UEFI bios and finding that often on reboot I end up with a BSOD that continues until I reset to last good configuration when everything seems to work normally again. most recently this evening I disabled APS on my CPU and on my ram as I felt it was slowing my computer down after using it.  I rebooted and there it was the BSOD again. I have my drives set on IDE and the on-board sound disabled as I am using my own soundcard.  Other than that I am running everything by default.
I hate the instability of using the bios on this board.  I was previously running with the 79fx-GD70 and never had these issues in the same way, having said that I have only recently moved over to 64bit Windows 7 and was a consistent 32bit user of the OS instead.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I've now discovered the reason for the BSOD issues. When I built this computer up a couple or so weeks ago, I transferred my Windows 7 drives from my old 790fx GD80 system. They transferred smoothly, but every time I tried to use AHCI & AHCI in the bios and reboot the BSOD would occur. I now know that if Windows 7 drives are installed without doing a clean install they "Do Not" automatically set AHCI, this has to be set in the registry first then set in the bios. I have now sorted this out and I no longer get BSOD with AHCI & APS and it is solved without any further issues.
    Many thanks for all suggestions,

  • Change bios seting in dv6

    hi
how can i change bios setin in dv6 6070?
i want install windows server 2008 r2 64 bit in vmware , but has on eror "enable bios vt option".
what is it and where is it ?
    tnx

Hi ofr, welcome to the HP Forums. The 'vt' from your error message, is the Intel Virtualization Technology. Simply put, it is technology that improves performance over software based virtualization, and a requirement for Windows Server 2008 R2. Here is a more elaborate description from the source:  Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Technology
To see if the option is available, you will need to enter your BIOS. Turn on or restart the computer.
While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
Here is an article that will show you what it MIGHT look like: How to Enable Intel Virtualization Technology (vt-x)
    I hope this helps.

  • W520 won't boot. Can't even get to the BIOS .... help!

I have a 2 months old W520 factory settings. It has been acting up lately when powering up but after holding down the power button for 10 sec or so it would always start. However, that is not even working today.
I took out the battery and plugged it in AC and tried to no avail. I also tried powering it up with battery alone and neither seems to work. So I can't turn on the **bleep** machine now to even see what version the bios is or anything for that matter. Please help .... thanks!

    Hi, J,
        I feel your pain.
It may be your system board is blooey, but we can try a few things before going to your local authorized Lenovo service center - or you may want to head over there right now:
    Lenovo Warranty Service Locally
I had a minor warranty issue recently and a local provider turned my machine around in two hours (after the parts came in).
If you want to mess around:
Are you sure your power supply is ok? Is your battery charged?
Have you tried unplugging everything from your machine (except for the AC adapter), including removing the disk drive, any usb devices etc.?
Is your laptop screen completely dead? If so, you might try plugging in an external monitor, just to check.
After that, you may also want to remove the keyboard, take out the backup battery, main battery etc and disconnect the AC overnight.
Let me know how you fare.

  • BIOS V1.6 Overclocking help pls!

    Hi guys
I have a 875P Neo-FIS2R and since I upgraded my bios to V1.6 I have found the FSB of my P4 has been overclocked to 203Mhz from the standard 200Mhz.  :(
I have also found that my graphics card has been overclocked. (A Geforce4 ti 4400 and the core is overclocked close to a Geforce4 ti 4600).
I can fix the FSB with core cell back to 200Mhz but this only lasts until the next restart. I have not found a way to fix the GPU ocing.
Btw I set the bios voltage of the AGP at 1.55V but on core cell it is always set to 1.6V when I reboot.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and does anyone know how to fix this problem or do we have to wait till the next bios is out (V1.7?)
    Thanks for you help. :D

    Hi ppl   )
I no this is an old post but I know a few of us still have the problem of our GCs overclocked as well as our FSBs overclocked to 203Mhz by the new bios V1.6.
I have since e-mailed MSI technical support with this letter:
    "Hello
I have recently purchased a 3Ghz 800Mhz FSB Pentium 4 and a MSI Neo2-FIS2R 875P motherboard. I noticed that when using core cell the FSB was automatically overclocked to 203MHz each time I loaded up. As I do not wish to overclock at the moment I turned the FSB down using the "-" button then pressed OK and then saved. Core cell would then read the correct 3Ghz (no overclocking).
However I found the P4 overclocked again after I restarted the next time. So I did the exact same with corecell and lowered the FSB to 200Mhz exactly so that it wasnt overclocked. I was sure I saved this setting with corecell and then I uninstalled core cell so it could no longer change this FSB setting.
However when I rebooted and checked the speed with the "Intel frequency ID Utility" the FSB was said to be 811Mhz so it was in fact 203Mhz again. I checked the CPU BUS CLOCK in the bios and it is set to 200Mhz. I then tried the default setting of 201Mhz with corecell with the same result after rebooting.
So basically how can I prevent this overclocking happening automatically. I have a MSI Neo2-FIS2R with a 875P chipset and bios version 1.6? I dont want to overclock because I want to keep the Intel P4 warrenty.
Another question: Does that MAT function that is available in V1.6 affect the Processor at all or only the RAM and will it void the warrenty of the P4 if run? It is currently set to SLOW."
soz for the long read but had to get everything in.
Now for the interesting part  8)
THIS IS MSI TECH SUPPORTS REPLY!!!!!:
    "Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
There will be tolerance difference when the softwares detect the clock.
It's normal. It won't cause reliability nor stability problem.
Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further problem.
    Best regards,
    MSI Technical Support"
     8o  8o  8o
Is anyone else shocked 8o by this response because MSI seems to be overclocking "cheating" and are happy to say that is only a tolerance in the clock meanwhile so many other users have experienced this as well so it definately isnt a tolerance difference.
Thanks would like your views on the matter

  • T61 doesn't turn on after BIOS upgrade! PLEASE HELP!

    Hi all,
I just reinstalled XP on my 4 months old T61 and installed Lenovo's System Update thing. There was an BIOS update option there, so I selected it. It downloaded it and then done the upgrade - there were no errors, everything was smooth. All was fine. At least it looked that way. I rebooted it. It hanged on the boot screen (at POST). So I tried to reboot it or turn it off - there was no way to do it - the keyboard was not responding, tried pressing the power button for like a minute, but nothing. It was frozen on the bootscreen logo. So I removed the power plug and then the battery to cut the power and turn it off.
I inserted the battery and the power plug back... and... IT DOESN'T TURN ON ANYMORE. Not only it will not respond to me clicking the power button, but also the light on the backside of the lid doesn't light up when I plug in the power supply. What the hell happened? What should I do?
I tried removing the RAM and replacing it, cause I had a spare stick, but, as I thought it didn't do anything.
Is it possible that the power circuit inside T61 was somehow damaged when I removed the battery when the computer was running?
    Some more info:
The battery was fully charged when flashing, I was on the AC and the BIOS version was selected automatically via Lenovo System Update.
I know how to flash BIOSes, I did it like a hundred times in my life already, even hex-hacked one on a very old PC. Never had any problems.
This is the BIOS I upgraded to:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67988
    My T61's model is: 6465-CTO
OMG I'm so desperate right now.
Please HELP! I don't know what should I do!
And to top it off, I don't know if my warranty is going to be any good in Poland (see thread: http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_General&thread.id=88 )
    Best regards,
    NIXin

    It is disturbing - Yes.
However, I have lost count of the number of BIOS or ECC updates I have made with System Update and have never ever had something go wrong. Obviously those that experience a problem are going to look for help and post in forums, it would be interesting to know how many have never had a problem?? They have no reason to post.
You wrote; "bricks their Txx about once a week", how many ThinkPads are sold per week? It is guaranteed to be an absolute nightmare for the owner, quite understandably, but if I was paranoid I wouldn't drive my car to work - I might have an accident.
