Biometrics/fingerorint reader fails 3 times on boot up

when my system first boots up the fingerprint reader (integrated biometrics on my T60) reads 3 attempts (fails each time)  and prompts me for a password. I never actually run my finger through,  it just run through 3 attempts and fails.
Use to work fine, device driver is working and updated. PC doc indicates a problem but in a very generic way (not helpfull)
A little baffled by the self initiated 3 attempts to read a fingerprint on boot up
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

The lens seems to be scratched but before I try to replace the palmrest which I believe includes the lens ($115 !! ) I wanted to make sure that the symptoms made sense. I also ran PCdoctor on the Biometric Coprocessor and the test passed.
Thanks for the help

  • Hello, I have a 2009 iMac, and my harddrive has failed several times now, and now I need to re-install snow leopard but my install DVD is damaged and I have bought a new snow leopard disc. However my iMac will not read the disc at all ?

Hello, I have a 2009 iMac, and my harddrive has failed several times now.
I tired to reinstall snow leopard with the install DVD that came with my iMac. However the disc is damaged so I bought a new Snow Leopard but my iMac wont read the new disc, it just stays in the apple logo screen, I have tired safe boot, holding down the "C" key on startup and tried using disc utility but getting nowhere.
    Please help. Thanks.

Might be related, if your hard drive is a 1TB drive,it could be a Seagate drive.
The drives are known to fail and your iMac maybe covered for free replacement under the Apple's Seagate hard drive replacement program until April 12 of this year.
I Believe the 2009 models are covered under this replacement warranty.
You can find out if you are eligible here.

    Good Luck!

  • [SOLVED] apache daemon fails to start on boot, but rc.d restart works?

I installed apache from the official repos and followed the instructions in the wiki for configuring it. I checked to make sure the http user exists, and I /etc/hosts looks good (to me). Upon boot, the daemon fails to start and I can't load local web pages, but running "rc.d restart httpd" works just fine. Since I'd rather not start it manually every time I boot, is there a way to fix this? Also, httpd is the last daemon in my DAEMONS array.

    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive

The SIGTERM are from reboots, yes. I'm not absolutely sure that the process isn't running; I just know that I can't access http://localhost immediately upon reboot. I have to restart the httpd daemon, which works fine. How would I be able to tell if it's just hung?
I checked everything.log, and I don't see anything that leaps off the page to me.

All I notice is that my system's time is having a few problems, since you'll notice that events occur at 22:00 and change, then 17:00 and change, then back to 22:00 and change afterwards. Could this be the problem? I've had the CMOS batteries peg out on me suddenly in the last few weeks. I would hope this sytem is not also suffering a similar fate. Nothing else was happening on my system except for the standard processes from /etc/rc.conf and other standard ones, since I've just been rebooting, checking the logs, then posting here.

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro taking a long time to boot up with Yosemite (Etrecheck results)

I'd be so grateful if anyone can help me get to the bottom of this. The MacBook's otherwise working just fine just takes quite a lot longer (2-3 mins) to boot up since installing Yosemite. Just tried upgrading the memory which has made the system run faster but doesn't seem to have remedied the boot up problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ...
If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to    ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db.  Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Try Safari.
Mac OS X (10.7.2)   <  from your profile
If that is corrrect, you need to update your system software. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software
    Update ...
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Why should Adobe Reader fail to print because of settings in the Edit/Preferences?

    AdobeReaderDocumentCouldNotPrint.txt
Glyn Price Tue 17 March 2015
Why should Adobe Reader fail to print because of settings
    in the Edit/Preference?
    Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.10
    MS Window 7
    File > Print > Print
    I got the error message:
The document could not be printed
I googled this error message and used the following
solution that worked i.e. it then printed successfully.
    Edit >  Preferences
Category: Security(Enhancement)   'Enable Protected  Mode at Startup'
It was checked, changed it to unchecked.
Category: Documents    'View documents in PDF/Mode'
It was set to 'Only for PDF/A'
    Set it to 'Never'
Exited Adobe Reader and restart it. Then it printed.
I had a look on another computer system (Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.10
and MS Window 7) and on this different computer I could print
without doing the above two changes.
I'm a bit puzzled. Why preferences on one system were not
    needed on a different system?

Here is an elaborate method of troubleshooting this problem. There may be a simpler method if anybody wants to suggest one.
There is a general technique that is helpful in this situation. I can't give you complete instructions here, and I haven't tested this with regard to bluetooth devices, but here's the gist of it.
Create a second log-on account for your music projects. Configure it so that when you log in to the new music account, the drivers needed for the Bluetooth devices don't load. You do this in System Preferences: Accounts.
When it's time to do music, log out of your usual account and onto the new one.
When you install drivers for any peripheral, you have the option of installing them "for all users" or only for the user account that is active during the installation.
This governs whether the drivers go in root/library or root/Users/your name/library.
If drivers are in root/library, they will load whenever the Mac is booted up and will run for all users.
But if drivers are loaded in root/Users/your name/library, they will only load if you log in as "your name". If you have a second account called root/Users/music account/, and you log in under that, the drivers in "your name" will not load. Get it?
To get this working right you need to be knowledgeable about moving or deleting files in the /library/ directory and subdirectories, and you need to be careful because you can unwittingly cause some damage if you are not careful.
There is also the root/System/library directory, and in general you should never mess around with anything in there or you might hose your system.
In summary, I would start by using the installer programs for your BlueTooth devices and DE-installing all drivers. Reboot. Log back in as your usual user account. Then RE-install each driver and see if the installer program gives you the OPTION to installl for all users or just for this user. Choose the latter. Then log on to your new Music account and see if the problems go away.

  • Why outlook2011 mac version* takes long time to boot with OSX

why outlook2011 mac version* takes long time to boot with OSX

Okay, so after doing all of the above, the computer still takes between 40 seconds and 1 minute or so to boot up, and the VersionCue messages still appear. However I discovered that the "kdcmond cannot retrieve..." messages disappeared after I disabled my ethernet connections. So at least I know that that had nothing to do with the extended boot-up time.
I have heard that the more RAM you have, the longer it takes to boot due to the RAM count. Since I have 10 GB, maybe this is why?
I've included the most recent Console messages below:

  • Installation fails every time

My installation of Adobe Acrobat Professional 11 UE MAC ESSC fails every time I try it. I don't know how to contact Adobe to get help. I am running Mac 10.8.5. Galen Strawson

I don't have this machine but here are a few things you could look at; that is if you haven't already.
    Things you could try:
    Changing up the Bios Settings.
if it came with win 8. it is probably runs a uefi firmware. These often have a bios backwards compatibility mode. You could try checking those options and turn off secure boot and turn on the bios backwards compatibility mode and see if win 10 will install.
if it came with win 7, it may have a bios with those features not turned on; if that's the case try turning them on.
Note: you may lose/gain security features or boot speed by disabling or changing some of these features. But it may tell you if a uefi firmware or bios settings incompatibility that could be causing your installation issue. You could also try a different
    HDD.
Also you didn't mention whether you were trying to install from a usb stick or if you burned the iso to a DVD. If you are trying from a USB and have a DVD drive. Try burning as a DVD. I had dell lattitude that would never install from my usb; it would start
installing but then it would stall, but from a dvd in the dvd drive it installed alright... kind of weird (I was installing win 7 not 10, so not sure whether it would make a difference on win 10.)
Win 10 may also run but the install is borking on your machine... this is unconventional and surely not recommended, but you could put that laptop hard drive in another machine and run the install. Then on the last reboot swap the hard drive back into your
laptop and see if it boots up.
This may allow you to try running the os and see how it works on that laptop, if that's your goal.

  • MacBook Air 13" is taking a very long time to boot up

My daughter purchased a MacBook Air 13" last 1.7 GH Intel Core i5, 4GB Memory. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter noticed that her computer was taking a long time to boot up. Apparently the bootup time has progressively lengthened to 3 - 5 minutes to get to her desktop. What happens is the boot-up process seems to stall on a grey screen and beach-balls until the desktop eventually appears. Does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this issue? Any tips, tricks, suggestion would be helpful.
    Thanks!!

I would consider doing the following:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Wireless *intermittently* fails to connect upon boot

    Hi folks,
First post! After a few days of grinding away, I've got my first Arch Linux installation up and running alongside a Windows 7 partition. As a relatively inexperienced Linux user, it's been challenging at times, but I'm very happy with the new setup and I've resolved most problems encountered thus far.
However, I've run into an irksome problem that I haven't yet been able to solve:
Most of the time when I boot into Arch Linux, my wireless connection starts automatically via netctl. I can open up Chromium and browse straight away.
However, perhaps every 2-3 boots, I start an Arch Linux session where I find that my wireless has not connected. I'll open up Chromium and receive errors, then I'll open up a terminal and find that 'iwconfig' isn't showing any active wireless connection.
I've done my share of Googling on this, and browsed the Arch wiki to try and find an answer, but many of the solutions that I have found relate to the problem of a wireless connection refusing to connect at all. This doesn't apply to my case, so I thought I'd put this out to the panel of resident experts here!
Here's my iwconfig when I boot into a 'good' session with working wireless:
    eno1      no wireless extensions.
    wlp4s0    IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:"ZyXEL7850rtg"
              Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.472 GHz  Access Point: 50:67:F0:E8:4E:00
              Bit Rate=150 Mb/s   Tx-Power=20 dBm
              Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr=2347 B   Fragment thr:off
              Power Management:off
              Link Quality=70/70  Signal level=-35 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:1   Missed beacon:0
    lo        no wireless extensions.
Here's my iwconfig when I boot into a 'bad' session with no wireless:
    eno1      no wireless extensions.
    wlp4s0    IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any
              Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=20 dBm
              Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr=2347 B   Fragment thr:off
              Power Management:off
    lo        no wireless extensions.
    Other relevant info:
    - I have recently migrated to netctl from netcfg, as instructed in the Arch wiki. I was hoping that this would resolve my problem, as the exact same issue previously occurred for me on netcfg. Unfortunately, the problem remains intact.
    - I see no such issues on my Windows 7 partition (the wireless connection always works upon boot), so it would appear that hardware issues can be ruled out.
    - When wireless fails to start upon boot, I can still connect by entering 'sudo wifi-menu wlp4s0' and specifying the desired connection manually. So I don't have to reboot to get my connection working, but nonetheless, this is a nuisance.
I'm not sure what other data (logs etc.) might be useful in diagnosing this issue, but I'd be grateful for any pointers.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or newbie-bashing rendered!

Thanks for the suggestion Aton. I reproduced the problem, and then sifted through journalctl to see what I could find.
I dug up the following lines of interest:
    Apr 15 18:31:02 kevin-pc network[297]: Starting network profile 'wlp4s0-ZyXEL7850rtg'...
    Apr 15 18:31:15 kevin-pc dhcpcd[487]: timed out

    Apr 15 18:31:15 kevin-pc systemd[1]: Unit netctl@wlp4s0\x2dZyXEL7850rtg.service entered failed state
I have no idea what to make of this, but it's good to get some new information.
I'm going to Google around a bit with some of these error messages. In the meantime, I open the floor to suggestions if anyone discerns anything obvious in the output above...

  • Mavericks takes excessive time to boot up

Since upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac, it has taken an excessive amount of time to boot up each time.  This does not happen on my MacBook Pro 13" Retina.  Once it is up and running, it seems to work ok, but the length of time to boot is easily 3 or more times slower than with OS X 10.8.
I would appreciate any help in resolving this problem.
    Thanks -

  • Hardrive failing? Time to replace?

So I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but is it time to chuck my mac? It's a mid 2010 macbook pro. It doesn't seem worth investing in a new battery (soon) and a new hard drive (immediately) for so old a computer. It's been running quite slowly for the last year and I finally did a DriveDx report and things look bad. Should I just replace and feel amazingly lucky that my computer lasted me this long? I've got 1,426 load cycles on the battery (which wasn't recognized twice last month for about 2 days, but now is working fine at 89.9% capacity) and 968,6623 load cycles on the hard drive. Should I not count on the same performance if I replace with a new MacbookAir?

I have a 2010 MBP and its performance is better than the day I first took it out of the box.  I recently installed a Crucial SSD and yes, it does have 8 GB RAM.
Here are a couple of links that may be of interest to you.
    For RAM and SSD:
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Apple/macbook-pro-%2815-inc h%2C-mid-2010%29
    This is for the battery:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/BAP15MBU78N/
I installed a replacement battery in my 2010 MBP with one of these.
Under no circumstances would I purchase a battery on ebay.   Every vendor is going to tell you that it is a genuine Apple battery.  Apple will only sell their batteries on the condition that their personnel install it.  If you search these forums, you will find many tales of woe from users who bought inexpensive 'Apple' batteries.  Some last a month, a week, a day and some don't even work on arrival.
Until I see independent test documentation that a third party vendor is indeed selling a genuine Apple battery, they are all suspect and should be avoided..
    Ciao.

  • Fail to complete HP restoration. Error mess - "CTO Error Flg" + "[205] UIA Write Failed 3 Times!!!"

After failing to recover my system from the recovery software on the D-harddisk partition, I bought HP Recovery disks from HP support and installed the first disk as per instructions and turned on the PC . I also pressed ESC on powerup and then selected F9 to boot from DVD. After 5 minutes of accessing the HP recovery disks in the DVD drive, an error message resulted stating that "HP Restoration Incomplete". I looked at the details of the error and showed another error message stating "[205] UIA Write Failed 3 Times!!!". ANyway I try to make the PC recover either from the Recovery manager using the HP Recovery Manager & Recovery software on the D-Hard Disk partition or using the HP Recovery DVD s I get both ways the same "CTO Error flg" + "[205] UIA Write failed 3 times". ANy thing else that can be done, please?
    This question was solved.

Thank you for the response. Since I posted my problem description on this Forum, I was working directly with HP Support and ultimately found that I needed to push the F9 button immediately as the PC was poweringup. DOing this correctly then let the HP provided Recovery disks ( I bought them from HP) be actually read by the system and recovery correctly proceded.
But this shows there is some buggy issue with the HP hard disk test that i ran several times and each time showed a hard disk Fault message with result [305 ] and also [303] - which led me to almost placin an expensive purchase for a replacement HP 320 GB disk drive.
Thankfully the HP support people were so thorough with me and kep calling me back to follow up with me to check how I was doing that then I got my HP laptop back working. otherwise I would have made a mistake and installed third disk, the HP Driver disk - and its working great now and faster than ever.
    Thank you Hewlett Packard.
Actually I was aware of this type of support from HP since the 1970s when I was buying and installing HP A2100 servers, then HP 1000 servers, then HP 9000 server, and I met  and had presentations from HP's Engineering team and management in  California presenting to me and my boss the the next type of  systems that HP was developing for the future,  and then the HP-DEC ALpha machinea - All of this to have the best  computers with the best support to operate General Electric's (GE Americom at the time) critically important ground control systems that fly most of the commercial SATCOM satellites over the USA.  Even though I have left that job a while back, SES AMericom is still using HP computer to fly upwards of 20+ satellites over the USA and around the world.
Just shows why HP is the longest lived computer company and will continue to be!!!
My Support case number was 3013351909 so that whoever the HP support lady might get some credits for for her excellence and how well she persisted on her initiative to continually checkin with me and guide me and helped prevent me from buying a hard disk when I didn't need to.
Thank you HP and Regards to the long lived realtionship with me!

  • HP Pavillion dv7-6b56nr "[205] UIA Write FAILed 3 times !!!"

My mother's Laptop starting running "slow".
She didn't tell me and start running it in Safe Mode with Networking all the time to get it online.
Then it would not boot into Windows at all.
    She brings it to me.
HDD tests come back 100% no errors.
I use Recovery Manager to reinstall from the Recovery partition.
Everything seems to be fine until I press continue to reboot into Windows to install after recovery has built the partition (AFAIK that is what is happening at that point).
After Windows loads up, the Recovery Manager pops up right away and states "Restoration Incomplete".
Clicking on Details brings up a CTOERROR.flg document that states: "[205] UIA Write FAILed 3 times !!!".
At this point I am confused. The recovery software is malfunctioning, the HDD is bad, or maybe a combination of both. I have looked for the Recovery disks on the HP Software and Driver Support site and after entering all the information asked for I get nowhere with no option to dowload OR purchase (which I would happily do). I am going to try a clean install with an old Windows 7 disk/key and see if that works.  Any additional support would be great.
    Thanks,

    Its solution is quite simple.
For solving this problem, you need a windows 7 or 8 dvd(or by a bootable pendrive with  win7,8).for complete restoration you have to follow the steps
Step1:insert win7/8 dvd and restart your pc.Enter the boot menu and select cd/dvd option to boot from dvd(for bootable pendrive, select that option).
Step2:After windows have loaded the windows files, click on install win7/8.
    Step3:select custom installation
Step4:Now you will get a window with your harddisk partions.Click on Advanced option in the bottom of the table showing partition list.
Step5: Delete all partions for obtaining a single drive.
Step6:After deleting all drives, you will get a single drive showing your harddisk size.Click on that drive and then select 'new' from bottom options.
Step7:Then windows will show a warnig.Click on 'YES'.And dont make any change to partion size and proceed.
Step8:After doing this you will get a 100mb system reseved memory and rest of your harddisk size as a drive. Then close the installation window.Restart you pc with windows 7/8 recovery disk. And do the same procedure you done early. Then the installation will complete without any errors. And you can have the OS as per the installation media have..
    good luck..

I have HP Pavilion dv6-6121TX laptop with Windows 7 operating system.
Just a few days back I changed my HDD and then performed a System Recovery with the 3 discs given to me by HP.

I performed both the "Primary Hard Disk Self Test" and "Memory Test" but my laptop is not booting with the aforesaid error being shown.
Would be extremely obliged for any help.
