Bionic. post-ICS update. front facing camera pixelated/artifacts

Hello,
After I updated to ICS, the front facing camera began showing weird pixelation/lines.  this did not happen before the update.
I reset my phone to factory settings and the camera till showed the following lines.
any ideas?  Verizon, please help!

    Hi RIJAH,
Yikes! I know how important it is to have a working camera on your device. Thank you for completing the Master Reset on your device. Do you have any third party camera applications downloaded on your device? If so, please remove them. If there are no third party apps and your camera is still not working after the reset, we would need to replace the device. Is your phone still under the warranty?

  • Has anyone else had trouble with there front facing camera on Ipad with Retina display since last update?

Since the most recent update for IOS 7.1.1 my front facing camera has not been working and the tech people say it is a hardware issue.  Anyone else out there have the same issue?

At this point you probably think the errors are SyncPX's fault.
    And you would be right.
I started by taking the fault up with SyncPX's developer, Qdea.  One other user had noted a fault similar to (2).  Qdea maintain that there's nothing wrong with their code, and blame Apple's disc drivers.
What steps can I take to pin this down further?  All advice and comments will be gratefully received..
Dump Qdea for someone who knows how to write Mac software.
    1. Qdea displays the following logo: . This is a pre-MacOS X logo.
    2. Qdea displays the following review:
MacFixit had a good reputation, if you are old enough to remember when it used to exist.
    3. Qdea provides download links to SynchronizeX and version in French, German, and Japanese. Apparently they don't know that Mac software can be localized into a single executable.
I'm sure there are any number of similar utilities available, all of them cheaper than SynchronizeX's $99.99 price.

  • The shutter on my iPad front facing camera won't open.  My husband and I are in Ireland and I can't take pictures.  Can anyone help?  It is the latest iPad version and I am updated with version 6.1.3.

My husband and I are traveling through Ireland and my iPad front facing camera won't work!  The shutter won't open.  I have shut all programs that might take up memory, I have totally rebooted and I have tried restarting everything.  Any advice to help me take amazing pics while on our vacation?

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • Why doesn't my front facing camera work?

my HTC Thunderbolt's front facing camera does not work. Every time that I try to use the front facing camera it would bring me back to the home screen. I went online to try and find the solution to fix it. I followed what the majority population has said: go to settings, then applications, then camera, and clear data. I did that and went to try to use the front facing camera again and it still brings me back to the home screen. I repeated the process as stated earlier several times with no success. I even restarted my phone several times and the camera still does not work. Some of the internet population have stated that it might be related to the Gingerbread update. I would just like a solution please.

        Hi Colonelz:
Thanks for posting the steps that you've taken to resolve your camera concern. Do you have a camera application that you've downloaded that could be interfering with the function of the camera? If so, I suggest removing it and retesting. If the issue continues, I recommend a hard reset: http://bit.ly/IFyBN2 <--Steps.
Let us know if that's successful. I'd love to know the outcome of your situation.
    Thanks,

  • The shutter on my Front Facing Camera won't open.

It would open when I had it on the rear facing camera, but it freezes when I click to switch.
And then when I try to open the camera app, the shutter won't open, I'm guessing because it's in front facing mode.
And even when I Skype, the app freezes if I try to use the front facing camera, so I have to use the rear facing camera for skype (which is annoying)
I have the latest software update...
Anyone know how to fix this?!

Same Problem. Have had the iPod 4G since it first came out and everthing fine till now.
To: just after installing IOS 5.0
The camera(s) shutter will be closed for a while, unable to be used.
Also, camera(s) will no longer switch between modes (shoting regular pic vs. shoting self)
As others have mentioned, I also did the common things to try to fix this:
    - I closed the Camera app and restart it
    - I rebooted the iPad Touch 4G
    - I did a hard reset
    None of this helped.
This happens on ALL the camera apps I have (four or five).
Which makes me think it's a Bug
Note: I'm posting this on all threads as I become aware of them.
Update: A Partial Fix, I did the 'dramatic,' decision of doing a full Reset/Restore (System>General>Reset) and after that the front shutter now works again, so I can take pics of things in the normal way, but one of my camera apps made it clear it gets an ERROR when trying to switch to the self-photo/Facetime mode, so I'm avoiding doing that to the Apple Camera app.
Since it started for me with a software change, and it got partially fixed with a system Reset I more firmly believe it must be a bug. It looks like a bug. It acts like a bug. It's a bug.
Apple is a good company and if they get the word I'm sure they will do what's necessary to fix this problem. So keep talking it up on Discussions and send Feedback is all we can do and many of us don't have a Genius Store nearby (plus, it can't be good for business to be returning products because of software issues).
On the plus side of the camera and new IOS5:
I found out how to get that cool function to being able to use the camera right away, from the lock screen.
Very nice. And very, very nice to be able to use the volume button to snap pics.

  • Lumia 920 Front facing camera blury, exaggerated s...

    Hi,
I'm trying to understand if my frontfacing camera has a defect or it really is supposed to be that bad on a 920. I started noticing the images are always sort of blurry even though i try to hold it extremely still and that the colors are kind of bad.
What really put me over the edge was seeing my wife's iphone's result side by side. hers was crisp, clear, beautiful while mine looked like it was from a first generation digital camera.
Is this expected? has anyone else compared iphone 5 and 920 FF camera results side by side?
    thanks

    Hi Amakhan,
Traditionally front facing cameras have not had much technical focus as most people use the back facing cameras to take photos. However, with the advent of the Facebook-photogenic generation, there has been a sharp rise in the use of front facing cameras for impromptu poses.
Now, there are differneces in the hardware between the phones you have listed. For one, the Nokia 920 only has a 1.3MP front camera, while the HTC 8X has a 2MP snapper (which HTC claim is even better with their proprietary imaging technology). Obviously, photos are going to look better on the HTC as they have obviously focussed effort on their cameras. The same case could be made for the iPhone, as their adverts always seem to have people making FaceTime calls.
It all depends on your needs, if you find your front facing camera more important than your back facing camera, then by all means the HTC or iPhones are the phones for you. In upcoming firmware updates for the 920, the imaging of the front facing camera may be improved, but complaints about the quality are few and far between.
I sure hope the firmware updates will address this issue. This is my primary request at this time.
I don't think its right to have a dismissive attitude toward wanting a decent front facing camera. Nokia put the camera there, it should take good pictures. Facebook, youtube and myspace have been around for a long time. Many people like to take pictures of themselves. I dont think its wise to write off this segment of the market.
All i'm saying is that the phone has a camera. I'm sure it is able to focus. They just need to use some of the technology they use for the main camera in this one. I dont expect it to be as good, but it needs to be better.
For example, FF cameras are usually used to take pictures of the user -- someone with a face. you can use the algorithm published over a decade ago (http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/viola/Pubs/Detect/violaJones_IJCV.pdf), find the face, and focus on it like even the cheapest point and shoot cameras are doing these days.
The attitude that "this phone is not for that" is exactly why the iphone has done so well. Otherwise, why should we have internet or apps on the phone either -- heck, its for making calls.
It might seem petty, but I was literally in the car with my wife. we were goign to go return her iphone and ger her a lumia. she happened to snap a photo of herself on my camera. it was terrible. we turned around and went home. That's one sale lost. There are lots of poeple that use Facebook and want to take and post photos of themselves. Lets not give up on that market because we dont want to put some software into one of the cameras on the phone known for its camera.

  • 2 Lenovo ideatab A2107A, front facing camera works on one but not the other

i just purchased two of the same lenovo ideatab A2107A from best buy and i noticed that when trying to take a picture on one i was able to zoom in and change to the front facing camera.  The other i can get into the camera, but i cannot zoom in nor can i switch to front facing camera (the icon is not even there).  the other camera works well, zoom, video and all, the other i cannot zoom and i cannot switch, any thoughts besides factory resetting?

    hi catfish197621,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    You can try to:
    1. Download the latest updates Over The Air (OTA) to get the latest patches and bug fixes on the OS (go to settings > about tablet > check for system update).
    2. Download a camera app utility like Camera Zoom FX to see if you can zoom in and out and switch to the front facing camera.
    Hope this helps.

  • Helix front facing camera problems.

I recieved my frist batch of Helix's last week.  We ordered 7
Out of the 7, 2 have bad front facing camera's.  I noticed that Lenovo has a new camera driver as part of the Lenovo system update utility.  This driver update doesn't correct the issue.
My vendor is swaping me out with new units but I wanted to post this.
When you get your helix check the front facing camera.
Maybe I'm just unlucky with 2 bad out of 7 or maybe Lenovo has a quality control issue?

  • Dust under front facing camera Z10

Hello, i was wondering if anyone has had this problem. I got my phone 2 days ago and just now i noticed a lot of dust under the front facing camera. I keep it in my pocket but i don't think they are that dirty because it has never happened to me with any other phone. Has anyone had this problem?

Sure, your mobile provider if that's where you purchased it.
Having it for two days, dust in it, that's a warranty issue. Replace it.

  • Why does my screen keep flashing white when I use my front facing camera?

I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 5.1. Whenever I use my front facing camera, the footage I take shows a white flash on the screen every second or so. It looks almost like the glare that you get from looking straight into a flashlight. This doesn't happen every time time I film, and when it does, it can easily be solved by stopping and restarting again, but it's still annoying.

This issue is associated with your graphics driver not being compatible with PS' hardware acceleration. Updating the driver if possible would be advisable, otherwise turn off OpenGL drawing under Preferences --> Performance.

  • Front facing camera not working for video chat on Revolution

How come the front facing camera doesn't work on Tango? I wanted a new phone with FFC to use on Tango and for when Skype goes video on phones and it seems it don't work on Tango. Is it just Revolution or is it the same on all phones? I don't need a FFC phone to take pics of myself I have had no problem doing that on other phones, would love the feature to do what it is supposed too.

    Hi bulldog69!
To answer your question, some of those video chat applications have additional 'plug-ins' that need to be downloaded from the Market as well. Just search for "tango" in the Market and see if anything pulls up. If this is not the case, try to uninstall and re-install the application from the Market.  I recommend trying another video chat app to see if that works as well. If you can take photos and video with the FFC, there's no issue with the device.
Hope that helps! Keep us posted.
    Thank you!
Well we have two Revolutions and i tried the uninstall and reinstall and no good. Couldn't find any plug ins.
What other video chat apps do you know of that might work? Tried Fring and tha was junk. Thanks for any of your help that you give me

  • Front facing camera shots mirrored?

I was updating my Facebook photo using the new camera and noticed that all my shots mirror. It's hard to notice unless I have an object behind me and it switches places when I take a shot no matter the application.
    * Point the front facing camera to you
    * Add an object to one side like a vase
    * Take a photo
    The object swapped places.

The image displayed by the camera app while taking the picture is mirrored. The image recorded is not. Place something in the frame with printing on it. The image displayed by the camera is mirrored, just like if you hold an object with printing on it in front of a mirror. But the image recorded in photos is flipped to the correct orientation. I think Apple got this one right.

  • Front Facing Camera Refuses To Work Since Upgrade To Ios7

Since I have upgraded to ios 7, for what ever reason my front facing camera will not work. Regardless of this been tried on the camera App or Facetime. When I switch to it, it just blurs the screen and hangs. Nothing else happens. Is anyone else having this same problem since upgrading? And if so has anyone got a solution to this?
    Many Thanks
    Luke.

    hello all,
I can confirm the same behaviour with an iPhone 4S, white, 64GB. We own 3 iPhone 4S in our family. 2 of them work flawlessly after the update to iOS7. The only visible difference is the white colour. With the white iPhone 4S we cannot use the front camera any longer. The camera app freezes, switch back to the rear side camera only works, after removing the camera app from the multitasking pane. Reinstalling with iTunes or via DFU mode or via settings-general-reset-contents&settings didn't help. A staff member of an Apple retail shop tried again, but again without success. We both agreed that it must be a software issue. All apps using the front camera (Facetime, Tango, Skype Camera+ etc.) do not work.
The front camera worked well before upgrading to iOS 7.
But 2 other iPhone 4S working without a problem even with the identical iOS 7 leads me to the question if Apple used different camera modells or even different suppliers for the front camera for production of the iPhone 4S. My only  explanation from an engineering point of view is that there were different cameras used in production and one of it now has a problem to connect correctly to the iOS 7, which indicates in this case a driver problem.
    2 possible solutions:
wait until Apple releases a new version of the iOS which hopefully also covers this problem.
let the front camera replace in a repair shop which will cost between 49 and 69 EUR (this morning I have investigated into some Internet shops offering this service)
    Cheers, Claus
