BIOS 2.70 for Satellite P750/P755 Power Management Error

After updating a P755-S5393 with Windows 7 x64 to BIOS version 2.70 I am now getting an Invalid Option Error error on the Power Management screen in the BIOS. This error pops up upon entering the BIOS Power Management section, then pops up for each option when it is selected.
Also at one point after restarting the laptop following the BIOS update the power LED indicator was orange rather than blue. The Windows 7 power indicator then indicated the power at 99% even though the laptop had been plug in for hours. Did a reboot and the power LED indicator changed to blue and the Windows 7 power indicator showed Full Power (100%).

If you can't solve your issue and no one in the community can help, contact support to speak with a tech support agent at (800) 457-7777.

  • What was changed in Bios 1.50 for Satellite M70 (PSM71)

    Hi!
If possible, I need some info about new bios 1.50 for Satellite M70 (PSM71).
    What's the "change log"?
    Thank you very much!
    Ciao!

    Hi
Toshiba does not provide any official informations about BIOS updates on the European notebooks.
I found some info on the Toshiba US site but nothing about BIOS designed for the European laptops.

  • Where can I find XP x64 drivers for Portege R500 - hotkey / power management?

Where can I find downloads that will enable power management or hotkey support for my Portege R500?
I have already installed drivers for everything except fingerprint reader (don't want), tpm (really don't want), and hdd motion sensor (tos620a) (not bothered about right now). Most drivers are latest from original vendor websites, or, failing those, from Toshiba's Vista 64-bit download areas.
Everything else generally works: wifi, graphics & chipset, sound, lan, bluetooth stack, cardbus, card reader, etc.
However, having done this, the following issues remain:
FN hotkeys don't work for suspend to ram, suspend to disk, *screen* *brightness* - essential to extending lifetime; FN hotkeys for numeric/direction pad, external monitor toggle *do* work
Dedicated backlight toggle button doesn't do anything
However, in order to get battery lifetime beyond ~2.5 hours and closer to the rated 7.1 hours, I'll need to turn some things down / off occasionally. What software can help and where can I get it, such that it works on Windows XP x64 edition?
    Note:
I have tried the xp 32-bit packages that Toshiba supplies, they don't appear to work on x64. The 'ctrls' package requires 'cmod', but 'cmod' gives this error:
    TOSHIBA Common Modules Setup
Not an ACPI machine. Cannot install TOSHIBA ACPI Logical Device.
    OK
I have tried the xp 32-bit package called 'pwrsav'; it installs a bad help link to my start menu, and adds a couple of exes, tpsmain and tpsoddctl, to my auto-runs. These 32-bit executables quit immediately after execution.
I would have tried to install Toshiba's Vista 64-bit packages for hotkeys / common modules / power management, but the only one of the three I can find via toshiba.co.uk are common modules, and unfortunately that zip file only contains .inf, .cat and .sys files, no installer.
    Motivation:
I'm using a fresh install both because the default Vista install is unusable (900MB memory used on a fresh boot desktop, drive split into multiple partitions, trial, adware and broken software installed left and right)
I'm using x64 because I'm a software engineer whose next product needs to work on x64, and this new laptop was a likely first candidate

You didn't link to the tool you found. If you meant this tool then, you should be aware it doesn't work on x64 on R500:
    Display Tuner
    Cannot detect monitor!
Your monitor does not support DDC control or your videocard is not supported by Display Tuner.
You cannot use Display Tuner in this configuration.
    OK
It would be unlikely to work in any case, as display driver brightness isn't normally the same as the screen's brightness (hence power usage).
Maybe it's a communication issue, but I *have* found +original+ drivers for all essential components, just not for things like screen brightness - something that, to be honest, I more expect to be handled in firmware / bios, as that's been my experience on previous laptops, and is more reliable in any case, considering I could be running an oddball Linux or a completely different OS, or a CPU-intensive high-priority task.
The R500 series seem to be scrimping on the firmware and expecting OS utilities and dedicate yet another system tray icon to take over that job.
It does look like x64 is a no-go for mobile use on this machine, due to lack of firmware power management, which is a great pity as the point of such a light machine is mobility. I'll wipe it and install XP 32-bit and see how that goes.

  • Software for suspend/hibernate and power management?

After working with Arch on my desktop pc for a while, I today installed it on my laptop, as well. Everything works fine so far, but after reading through a lot of articles on the wiki and threads on this board, I'm a little confused about which tools I should use for hibernate/suspend and power management?
Cpufreq-utils, acpid, pm-utils, laptop-mode-tools, etc. What do you recommend for use?
    Thanks in advance!

All that you listed there have different functions. I use all the above on my laptop. Cpufreq-utils enables the frequency scaling, pm-utils (should) enables suspend and/or hibernate, laptop-mode-tools adds some power management functions, etc. Anyways, they're all useful for a laptop. Install, tweak, ask questions
    Good luck!

  • Satellite X200 - No power management tab in BIOS

I have a Satellite X200 and I'm trying to access the power management tab in BIOS, however no such tab exists. The reason being is that I'm trying to set up an automatic start up time. If it is any help, the BIOS is Phoenix TrustedCore V.2.10
So I'm wondering where it is, or how to access the power management
    Thank you in advance

    Hello
Why you need an automatic start up time?
Sorry but such a function is not available. I never had a notebook that was able to set such automatic start up time.

  • Satellite P750/P755 - Back Up And Restore Windows 7

    Hi,
My harddrive is about to fail on my Windows 7 Satellite P750; I have been getting warnings of an impending failure for a month now. I have purchased a new harddrive and it is ready to go, however I am unable to create a backup and restore point. I am getting an error 0x81000037: "Shadow files cannot be read".
Let me give you some of the history of my machine before getting to the issue. Windows 7 came preinstalled on this machine. About a year ago I created a new partition and installed Linux. Linux then took over the boot responsibilities. A couple of weeks ago I deleted the Linux partition. This gave me a problem as the computer was unable to boot. Fortunately I had recently created a back up and restore point, and during the process I was asked if I wanted to create a Windows 7 Home Premium Repair Disc. I was able to use this CD to access a command line tool which made the machine bootable again.
However, I no longer have a hidden boot partition on my machine (at least according to the Disk Management snap-in I don't). I am now getting the above error when I attempt to create a new backup and restore point. I no longer have a copy of the previous back up and restore point (I deleted it to make room for a new one).
From my research, apparently one of the possible causes of the error 0x81000037 is related to the hidden boot partition size. Since i do not have the hidden boot partition I fear that this could be the cause.
There are other possible reasons for this error. For example a virus which anti-virus refuses to allow access to during the back up and restore partition, and junction points in the drives to be backed up which are mounted volumes. I have run a full scan on my computer and cannot find any threats. I have checked my junction points (of which there are a few) and none are mounted drives.
This leads me to suspect that the lack of a boot partition is the problem. I have seen some people in forums suggest that it is best to back up all my data in the traditional manner (already done, since you ask), install the new harddrive and then install Windows 7 again.
So finally, we get to my question!
As Windows 7 came installed on my machine, I believe that I do not have the disks to reinstall it on a new harddrive. Is this correct? Am I able to obtain a copy?
To be honest I wouldn't mind reinstalling Windows on a new harddrive, rather than using a back up and restore point. I have a LOT of programs and rubbish which have accumulated in this one over the last (almost) 3 years.
Thanks for your patience. If there are some specifics which would be helpful, but which I have left out (I am sure there are) please let me know.

    >As Windows 7 came installed on my machine, I believe that I do not have the disks to reinstall it on a new harddrive. Is this correct? Am I able to obtain a copy?
You did not get any disks because Toshiba provides own recovery disk creator software which is always preinstalled on the new notebooks.
This recovery disk or media creator tool creates Recovery disk which can be used to recover the notebook.
It was a big mistake not to create such disk however, you have a possibility to order such disk here:

  • Missing RFBUS Driver for Satellite P750-11W

    Hi !
I have Toshiba Satellite P750-11w and Toshiba RFBUS Driver fail and bluetooth not go due to this.
I download latest drivers and installed...but this fail
    Can you help me?
    Bye & thanks

    Well, this is really strange
The RFBUS driver is part of the Toshiba Bluetooth so it should work.
Did you install Bluetooth Filter Driver Package firstly?
In my experience this should help you
Last solution might be the recovery procedure of course its drastic procedure but it should work
Here is also another thread and the install Bluetooth Filter Driver Package installation helped.

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone has came across thi problem before:
I had to uninstall the Toshiba power management utility (version 1.3 for Satellite 1900-102 running XP SP2). • BIOS vs XP: The Battle of Automatic Power Managment

In many threads, for example about the infamous cold boot problem, people have problems looking like this:
Reboot after reaching BIOS, XP loads or installs half way, after hibernation the system reboots, etc. Only yesterday ean1879 directly after installing XP got a reboot problem.
In another thread I tried to introduce a possible source of problems when it comes to Automatic Power Managment (APM) and such things: XP versus BIOS. And especially if you have chosen PNP-operativ system. The manual doesn't include XP among PNP-systems, chapter 13-8 I think. I'm not familiar with XP:s own power control, hibernation, etc.
Can someone say anything about this, please? I can't get it off my mind.
Yes, I use many words, but the questions must be:
1 What APM is chosen by the 'system' when booting, BIOS's or XP's?
2 Do problems disappear if APM is turned off, either in BIOS or for Windows XP?
3 Might there be a conflict in this area?
4 Would AMI, the maker of the BIOS, Microsoft, the maker of the OS, or MSI, the maker of the motherboard know anything about it?
Don't run XP myself, has all APM turned off in both my OS and my BIOS, and have never had such problems. - That's the only reason I wont tell my tech specs. Oh yes, another reason is that you might be jealous...

    Hi Fred.
    Will try to answer:
    1. When booting, think system can't "see" yet O/S, so should load Bios APM (if enabled)
2.- There should be no problems in any way; enabled or dissabled. Think that should select enabling Bios OR o/s APM. not both.
    3. Suppose if selected opposed instructions for same options, could rise conflict.
    4. They should.
About ean1879 problem, it dissapeard after changing P.S. and Memory.
    Cheers !

  • Satellite P30-128: Power Management installation error code: 0x7E

Hello, I formatted my notebook yesterday, and I couldn't install Power Management software correctly. When installation is complete, i get "Irrecoverable error. Program will be closed. Code: 0x7E"
    Can anyone help me please?

    Hi Simone
In this forum you will find many topics about this power saver error. Try to use the advanced search.
Generally this error occurs it the user doesn't use the Toshiba recovery CD but only the original Microsoft OS.
But According to other topics there is no explicit solution.
It's very important that you will install the Toshiba drivers in the right order.
Check the installation instruction on the Toshiba driver page.

  • Require BIOS 1.8 for Satellite A200-13M (PSAE6) - Fan activity

    Hi y'all,
I recently updated my Satellite A200-13M (PSAE6) with bios 2.20-Win Vista.
I am experiencing a higher fan activity and as a consequence, a lot more noise!
The fan now activates at 47-48C wich is lower than previously (~50C)!
I would like to downgrade to the previous bios version which turned out to be smoother!
Could anyone help me get the 1.8-Win vista version.
What are the key changes from v1.8 to v2.2 except the more agressive fan control?
    Kind regards.
    Maxime

    Hi Maxime
In my opinion the cooling modules run stronger and faster to prevent the internal hardware i.e. GPU and CPU from overheating.
For me it looks like the fan table which is stored in the BIOS was updated and therefore the fans rotate faster due to the reason mentioned above
The Toshiba driver page offers only the newest BIOS updates the older BIOS versions are not available on the website and I think you needed to contact your local ASP to get an earlier BIOS.
Unfortunately, I dont see any other possibilities to get an older, different BISO version for you notebook series.
