BIOS 902 cooling fan problem

Today, I powered my laptop and see the error BIOS 902, cooling fan problem. Then the laptop shutdown. However when I tried to power the laptop at third time, It can start up normally and I can use my laptop for more than 8 hours
I found the solution in google that upgrading the BIOS. However the error 902 still there. My laptop always start up normally at third time.
What should I do? Should I bring my laptop to warranty center?
Thanks for your advance!

  • Satellite C55-A - after BIOS update cooling fan runs faster

    Hello,
I was informed by Toshiba application that new BIOS version is available I confirmed it and BIOS was updated. Now I have problem. Cooling fan runs faster than before and it is very annoying.
Can I find older BIOS version somewhere and roll it back? I don't need it if it doesn't work properly.
Now I have version 1.40. Is there some solution for this new version?
Message was edited: posting has been translated

Toshiba EU driver page provides only the latest BIOS version.
Furthermore the BIOS downgrade isnt possible using the win-bases BIOS update.
In order to downgrade the BIOS on Toshiba unit, you will need to use the traditional BIOS update method which requires special BIOS version. This is available only for authorized service provider.
At the other hand there must be an serious reason why the cooling module run faster.
Maybe the cooling method has been improved in new BIOS just to ensure that internal parts would be cooled down properly.
Its just an assumption but I think it makes sense
By the way: after each BIOS update, you should load the BIOS default settings and should save the changes. If you havent done this in the past, do it

  • Cooling fan problem

Please my laptop is having issues with the cooling fan. And now it is no more turning on. Please what can i do for it to work properly??

first, check if there are any obstruction in the vent.
if not performing BIOS update resolves that kind of issue its not a hardware issue.
if after BIOS update same issue persist, check the setting of the fan in BIOS (f10) and check the FAn setting is on.
contact HP for repair if issue persist

Heatsinks don't need to be changed. They need to be cleaned, which you've done.
It's not clear from your post, if your fan problems persisted after you cleaned it. If they have, sounds like the fan is failing to me.
Try one these. Got the part number from here. From your model's parts list here.
Please let us know how it works out. Good luck.

  • Cooling fan 902

Suddenly yesterday I turned on my computer and it ran fine but then the screen went black so I turned it off and when I turned it back on it gave me a black screen and said "the bios has detected that your cooling fan is not working...press enter to shut down" i checked online and found a page where i could download an executive file to fix it but idk if that bios update is the correct one b/c i think i have the latest fit my dv6t-2100 which came out in June and the bios fix i saw had a release date in april. How do know of this is th corect fix and how do i check my bios info b/c when i ran the exe file for the fix it gave me a page that wanted me to input the current and new bios versions and id's. Thank you

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the cooling fan giving you a 902 error message. This could be a hardware or software issue. More than likely the fan is going bad resulting in a hardware issue.
Now, before getting this repaired, I would suggest flashing the BIOS. Here is a document showing you how to do so. Now, if this doesn't resolve the issue I would suggest updating the BIOS. Not knowing what notebook you have, you can follow this document which shows you how to update the BIOS.
Also, I would recommend getting some canned air and blowing out the vents in the side and bottom of the laptop. Here is a document  that shows you how to reduce heat from the notebook. If after doing this, you still have problems with over-heating, and your laptop is in warranty, you can take your laptop to a HP Authorized Service Center and ask them to clean the fan and heat sink. You can check your warranty here.
If none of these steps work I would suggest calling HP@8004746836 and see what options they have to repair or replace the notebook.
If you have any more questions let me know.

  • Hi i have cooling fan(902) issue. my laptop wont run anymore asking me to ctc you

    Hi
i have a problem with my hp notebook. it's only been bought last year. all of a sudden it's says there is a problem with the cooling fan and its (902) .  It's not running anymore. pls help me with this issue as i don't have my laptop working for more than 4 days
    many thanks
    Jamunaa Kaneskaran

That kind of problem requires sending it back to HP if you are under warranty. If not you have to replace the cooling fan, which is a pretty major job. The BIOS will not allow the laptop to boot into Windows if the cooling fan is dead. I can't tell you exactly how to do it because you don't tell us what kind of laptop you have.

  • HP 255 given problem after changing the cooling fan.

Please help, this is urgent. I changed my HP 255 cooling fan after it stopped working. when i finished replacing it with new one, i coupled back my computer and put it on. it came up with a message that the selected boot image is invalid, after series of troubleshooting by going online, i was able to eradicate the message. But am always stuck at a message that said recovery, your pc needs to be repaired. an unexpected error has occured. error code:0xc0000185. i tried repairing the operating system but there was no success. i was able to the a system recovery using HP recovery manager, the recovery was successful, but when i reboot pc after completion of recovery, it still returned me back to the message that my pc needs to be repaired. I cant even boot from the cd because i feel like downgrading it to Windows 7. Please help me, the computer is urgently need to complete my project work.
    thanks

Hi - firstly, did you use any sort of ESD protection whilst working on the machine?  This should be a priority due to the sensitivity of the devices on the motherboard.
Before suspecting the worst, I would make some basic checks on the hard drive.  Firstly, double check it has been firmly pushed back on to the connector (I know, you have probably done this already!)
Restart your computer - when it goes through the repair process, it will offer you advanced tools - click on this.
Select Command Line (CMD) - this will give you a black window with white text.  Type the following then hit the enter key -
         chkdsk /r
This will take what seems like forever but let it do its thing - hopefully you just have some damaged sectors, this will find and "repair" them (actually moves the data to a better part of the disc and marks the bad sectors so they don't get used in future).  Sometimes this is enough to get things working again.  When it has finished, you might want to check the system files, if not, simply restart the machine but if you do, type the following into the command line -
    sfc /scannow
Again this will take some time but it will find most problems with system files and replace them, however it isn't infallible.
Let me know how it goes....

  • Stock fan problems, Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 and MSI Neo4 Platinum

    Hi,
A few days ago,  the stock-fan of my Amd-64 CPU(+3000) started to running at 4500-5000 rpm at default speed, when before it had always done at 3000-3300. (official maximum stock amd-fan speed I think). To avoid so high and noisy default speeds, I have activated “Smart CPU Fan Target” in Bios to keep CPU under 50 º C and obviously now speeds are much lower. It helps to diminish the noise and to minimize the fatigue of fan, but obviously CPU run hotter. Even though I think it is in a safe range of temps (40 – 50 ºC). Nevertheless I’m worried about the odd behaviour of stock fan and what could happen in the future...
I wonder what could be wrong, cpu-fan, motherboard regulation cpu-fan system.
NB fan seems to work as always, running at 5000 rpm as ever (speed regulated by fan-mate 2). Not change is noted about.
I should aprecciate any suggestion about what is wrong ?
On the other hand, I have thought to substitute the stock-heatsink+fan by Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64. But I have some doubts about it.
Does it fit in a Neo4 MB ?
I wonder if is possible to control the speed of Arctic Cooling Silencer Ultra 64 (not TC model) by Bios or under Windows via Core-Center as stock-cpu-fan is?
If anyone was so kind to help me.
    Thank you very much,
    M. Lin.

One idea is, try to disconnect your current HSF and see what happens.
I think nothing will happen because there is no alarm for it in this board...
    Be well....
Thanks for the idea, but I think that it would be more prudent to wait for views about, of some owner of cpu-cooler-fan (thermal regulated or not), witch being set to start to turning at very low revolutions (ie:0--500) when computer power on.
Quote from: ellveez on 03-July-05, 09:05:19
I have the "no TC" version of the cooler. Maybe you missunderstood me. The mobo can controll the speed of the hsf. I can watch (with Everest 2.01) that it controls the speed between 2300 an 2000 rpm. The only thing i can't watch and therfore cannot confirm is how low the speed goes under 2000 rpm. Everest shows nothing when the speed goes under 2000 rpm and the core center tool from msi shows only "low", but no digits. Im sure, the fan turns with less than 2000 rpm but i don't no whether with 1500 or with 1900 or such. I can only confirm that the cooler is very silent when it turns with less than 2000 rpm. Then i dont hear the cpu-fan but only the other fans of my system (gpu, northbridge; five 80mm Papst Case fans). The Pabst fans stock rpm ist 2000 but i regulate them down to about 1300-1500.
For the northbridge i remove the stock cooler that turned with 8000 rpm. Now i use a Titan Copper VGA Cooler, TTC-CUVAB/RHS. The stock rpm of this cooler is 4500 rpm. I use the small Zalman Fan Control for this one to regulate it down to 3200 rpm. Measured with a temp probe the temp of the northbridge is now at 45 to 50 degrees C. I think thats a good compromise between heat and noise.
Yes, excuse me, at first I had misunderstood you. I interpreted that your cpu-fan was unable to turn under 2000 revolutions. I means only could be regulated between 2000 and 2300 rpm. But now, I'm quite sure what you means. Your tell me that the speed of the your cpu-fan is adjustable in all its range, from 0 to 2300, only that when it turns at least of 2000, the rpm reader programs are unable to report the speed. ok?

M Lin, why r u so set on this silencer product....here is a madshrimps review on a64 heatsinks. I would go with the xp90 for the same price or less. The link is here:

Thank you for your advice, I already knew it was a poor performer compared to what you refer me, but, firstly, I have a chronic immune illness due which I suffer some disabilities that makes difficult to do manual labours myself . Second  I use my computer for office-surfing-programming purposes. So my power needs are low, -I own a +3000 amd-64-, compared to most of you, I think (I’m not doing over clocking too).
To sum up, I’m going to pick this cooler (fan+heatsink) because is as easy of installing as stock one, enough to cool my cpu... (slightly better than stock one), and very cheap in my country. There is no more reasons to choose it.
A lot of thanks to all.

  • Netbook code cooling fan (902) what do I do?cc=US

I am sure that the computer that I have is called a net book,  it has windows starter 7 on it and I got it at Verizon. I went to turn it on and the screen came open with this message " cooling fan (902) won't let me open it and then shuts down and indicates to to to www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup for help. Does this mean the fan has gone bad? would it be cheaper to just replace it? I don't think that it's even a year old but I did not by the protection plan for it. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Okay got out the box and its a HP Mini 210-1076nr  so looking for suggetions on what to do to fix it or like I said is it just for cost effective to replace the whole thing?

    Can you supply a link?

  • Cooling fan has a fast speed that comes on now and again. is this a problem

    hi,
       I mac 21.5 late 2009. osx10.9 pro 3.6 GHz intel core 2 duo. mem 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
in normal use cooling fan is inaudible. top of machine gets quite to the touch.
on some occasions at start up the cooling fan fires up at turbo speed and is as noisy as an 8 inch desk fan.
when in this state it does keep the machine really cool, which is the way i would prefer. anyone know why
the fan should decide to run on turbo speed sometimes and not others.
anyone can help i would be really grateful........Phil.

    Hi p.growden,
Your iMac has fans in it that are meant to keep it cool when it is under load. You can read more about them in this article -

  • Satellite A215-S4757 - Battery life and cooling fan issue

    Hello everybody,
I would like to ask a few questions abou my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?
I have my laptop since august last year and I think it shouldn't be a problem of dust, because it is too "young" for that and I don't live in a "dusty" appartment...
Anyway, I think the "almost allways running fan" problem appeared about 2 months after I purchased the notebook. I have installed "Speedfan" and I see "HD0" temperature is increasing from about 30deg immediately after I start the laptop, to about 39deg after 1 hour.
But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behaviour normal???
Is the core temperature of 45-50deg normal? I am just using my laptop for Internet browsing, e-mails, etc., no complex 3d games!
The second thing is that the battery life is (and was from the beginning) not spectacular: it lasts max. 1,5 hours with wireless on, but normal use of laptop (not playing dvd's or something like this). Is this normal? If yes, is it because of the amd turion 64x2 processors?
Please help me with some advices / opinions.
P.S. I've bought my Toshiba as I was on trip in USA (NY).
Thank you very much in advance.
    Conrad

    > I would like to ask a few questions about my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?
Im an owner of a Satellite A210. Its similar to the A215. The A210 is a European model and the A215 belongs to the US notebook series.
I have noticed the same on my A210 and I think its normal behavior.
    > But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behavior normal???
The CPU temperature of 40-60deg is nothing unusual.
The temperature could arise up to 70-80degrees while playing a game. So dont worry about the temperature.
The cooling modules are controlled by BIOS. The fan table is stored in the BIOS and it contains informations about temperature limits and the cooling usage.
If a certain temperature level was reached the cooling module starts to rotate with a certain speed.
Now I would like to say something about the notebooks battery life time
Generally the battery life time depends on the notebooks usage.
While playing games or watching movies the battery would discharge much faster.
Anyway, your notebook was equipped with high-performance devices and as far as I know the Vista was preinstalled on this series. Both factors (high performance devices CPU and GPU) + Vista OS need a lot of battery power. Vista needs more notebook resources as the Win XP and therefore notebooks with Vista OS run shorter on battery as the notebooks with preinstalled Win XP.
Last but not least you have to know that there are different battery models A stronger battery with higher *mA* value would help to run the notebook longer using the battery power.
Hope I could clarify this question.
    Bye

  • Vaio E series - Cooling Fan noise

Hello, 2 weeks ago I bought Vaio E series.  I was very excited that I will have Vaio laptop. It was like my dream wish. According to our standard, we are poor country and the Vaio laptops are extremely expensive. But, Vaio laptops are know for high quallity laptops and great support from Sony. So, I bought it. I am very satisfied with the quality. But I have one problem. The cooling fan is making a lot of noise even the CPU usage its 10 %. I have the latest BIOS version. So, Sony I am expecting from you to release a new BIOS update fixing this issue.. I dont want to start thinking that I pay a lot of money only for the name. With that money I could buy a more powerful machine but I put my trust in Sony. The model number is Model # SVE17122CXB. PS. Don't say that I should go to service center because they can do nothing. I am an IT student and I know how this stuff works. And I dont  want the fact that the new laptop will be repaired. So the only solution is BIOS update. Sony, do not make me regret that I have chosen you before other brands.
I am expecting a positive feedback.

    t0n1,
Engineering came back saying that fan speed control is not supported on the SVE17 hardware so there is no way on this model to control the fan speed manually.  I apologize for suggesting this initially, at the time I did not have your exact model at my desk but instead I had a very similar one (SVE14A)
I also received two SVE17 notebooks and both have extremely quiet fan (especially if CPU usage is very low).  Loud fan noise is not a characteristic of this model.
If you feel that the fan on your SVE17 is abnormally loud, then you have two options at this point:
    1) You can make a audio/video recording of this fan noise and post it for me to review; after that i can try to give you more suggestions or let you know if this is in fact normal or not.  At this time you do not mention that your computer is shutting off, so the unit is not overheating.
    2) Or you can consider service.  (I realize you initially refused service in your original post, but sometimes some new thermal sheets or re-seating of the heat-sink can address these issues.

  • Cooling fan not working...????

when i m turn on my laptop...
there is message display that cooling fan is not working correctly..???
& shut down after 15 sec now what is the problem is happen???

We need the model number of the laptop to give detailed help. One thing you can try is to remove the battery and AC adapter. Bent out a paperclip and stick it in the fan grille to hold the blades. Blow in compressed air. Now put the AC adapter in and start up. Tap F10 to enter BIOS. As you leave reset BIOS to default. This may remove the message. If not the fan needs to be replaced.
