  • BIOS (Block 1) damaged - Satellite Pro 6000 - WinXP

    Hi there,
I've tried to update my BIOS from Version 1.3 to 1.6. During that process my child pressed the power button. The result is: I'm not able to start the machine. It asks me for a maintenance disk, because BIOS (Block 1) is damaged. I do not have any maintenance disks, only some recovery CD's. They do not work and there are no *.rom files on them.
So, what can I do? Thanks in advance for your answers!
    Mac

    Dear Marcus,
I believe you are right now living the nightmare of every BIOS/PHONE/CD-DRIVE/YOU-NAME-IT flashing person. As you are already aware about, it's never good to get either a wrong BIOS or a Power loss during this procedure.
Every newer BIOS has a protection mechanism which means that even in case of an incomplete flashing procedure, the responsible area in the BIOS-flash for the upgrade is NEVER DELETED. This means, that you can still upload a firmware on your BIOS although the procedure went wrong the previous time.
Usually this "emergency flash program" will run automatically out of the BIOS when you turn on your Laptop, and will search for a *.ROM file on your floppy drive. The floppy disk does not need to be a bootable one, just it should include this one required file.
I assume, that the necessary .rom file is the same .bin file, that comes with your regular BIOS upgrade... just renamed into the extension .rom but since I can not take the risk of providing you with wrong information, I would suggest you to have your Notebook repaired by an authorized Toshiba service provider.
There are just TOO MANY things that can get wrong, especially if this is the last "easy" way (without hardware exchange) to get your laptop running again after a failed BIOS update.

  • HP Bios Recovery works...sorta

    Hi everybody
I'm pretty certain I've exhausted all options, but any input on otherwise unknown procedures would be welcome!
    Ok, so from the beginning.
HP 15-d004AU notebook. The original HDD fails, so I (groan at HP designers ) disassemble the unit to install and new one. No problem, Windows 8.1 is installing nicely and the job is all but finished. I think to myself do a BIOS update because, why not right?
So I grab the latest offering, version F10.A and start installing the Windows version. Computer restarts and boom, black lit screen.
Because the HP_TOOLS partition went with the old HDD, I run the BIOS file on another computer to create a BIOS recovery USB key and after some buggering about I get a recovery running using the Win key and B combo. The BIOS recovery screen finally appears and the BIOS blocks look like they're being recovered as one might expect. At the end of the procedure, a time out appears with a Restart button which seems ot indicate everything is finished and successful. After a restart however, a black lit screen and nothing else. No POST.
I have been recovered both versions of the BIOS for this model multiple times and no joy. I have even performed discharge procedures (remove battery, hold power button 30 seconds etc) which does not help. So before I declare "prognosis brick", has anybody else seen this issue and know what else could be performed to assist?

    Hi @corigins1 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP 15-d004au Notebook PC and issues with an update BIOS not going well. I would restart the Notebook a few times as sometimes the changes have not taken yet.
You could restore the BIOS to original defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings which could resolve the issue. It forces the unit to check the hardware.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • MAX memory 8GB

Hi i have one problem i canot understand why compay HP block support max memory for notebook. Configuration write max 8GB but hardware support 16GB. Chipset support 16GB processors support 16GB and mother board support 16GB. But BIOS BLOCK max memory only 8GB. I test i put 1 DDR3 8GB windows working and can looking if i put 1 8GB and 4GB total 12Gb only worki 8GB. I start find and study this problem to much view forum and understand this lock in BIOS support max memory. After i write insyde and get answer " Insyde Software sells BIOS source code to PC manufacturers who modify the source code to meet their specific BIOS needs. Thus, each PC manufacturer has a unique BIOS. Insyde does not track the changes made to the BIOS by the PC manufacturer because the PC manufacturer has full control over the BIOS features. Your laptop is limited to 8GB because either: 1) HP configured it that way and will not allow additional memory or 2) the processor is limited to work with 8GB. Insyde has no control over the amount of memory allocated."  I ask and want HP help me. I want use my notebook 100% and not have limit use my notebook. I think this do this bad For the buyer. Thanks i think you help.

That is the theoretical configuration of the chipsets. I think you already know that HP has designed the unit (a g6-2003sr) to take no more than an i5-2450M processor and no more than 8 gigs of DDR3-1600. Sometimes the specs on these are conservative and it will in fact take more memory, but that would be an expensive experiment. There is no way it is going to take a 3rd gen i7 Quad Core, though. What is it exactly you want done here? You think that if HP would just write new BIOS you could install these parts you want to install? I don't think it is not that simple although even a new BIOS is not going to happen. I did go back and search the internet and there are posts on the Dell and Asus forums with exactly the same complaints....HM76 chipset 2d gen Intel Core laptops maxxing at 8 gigs when it "could be" 16 gigs. So in the industry this was a common design in 2012.

  • Tecra R850 - SSD support for SATA III 6.0GB

    Hi.
    I bought R850 with SSD.
The bad thing is that SSD 256gb installed is limited to SATA II with transfer up to 300/mb. I read that Sandy Bridge Supports SATA III which covers 600/mb.
Is somebody successfuly installed better SSD disk capable with SATA3?
I tried Sisoft Sandra and it reported that SSD SATA is II, the same for Motherboard. The HwINFO reported that chipset is capable with SATA 3. The Everest shows only SSD data with SATA 2.
Is the bios blocked for higher transfers ? I got 180mb/s read, 150 mb/write - which is 3x worse than normal SATA 3 256gb SSD harddisks.
Can anybody help me and tell - if it is matter of R850 bios ? or just only the old Toshiba SSD firmware ? if I buy better SSD with SATA3 - will it fully support higher speed ?
    Best Regards
    Tomi2012

HI. this is Tecra R850-1D8 with Toshiba's SSD 256gb. I know that laptop has Sandy bridge and should support 6.0gb SATA III, but in strange way Toshiba limited it and Sandra and other programs sees that it its SATA II only compatible. I think the problem is hidden in the bios.
I think there is no hardware limits - only slow old SSD and limited bios.
Maybe this could be unblocked ? or Toshiba upgrade the bios - to allow user to use newer SSD drives ?
May they would like to sell new R850 with newer SSDs so they will need unblock it.
Let me please know what You think

This is probably related to the UEFI bios blocking any installs other then Win8. But as anything if the O/S isn't support you will not get help here for installing unsupported O/S.

  • Presario v5000 802.11n

I recently acquired an HP Compaq Presario V5000 CTO that has no wireless adapter installed. I know that when this notebook was manufactured the only mini-PCI wireless adapters made for it were 802.11a/b/g, and I see that these are readily available from many sources. However, I'm wondering if a mini-PCI 802.11b/g/n adapter would function properly in this notebook.
Also, I'd like to know if the antenna is factory installed in all of these or if it would have no antenna if it was originally configured without wireless capability.
Thanks in advance for any information you might have regarding these questions.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You have to find and install one of the wireless cards supplied as original equipment on the laptop. HP implements a BIOS block for non-supported wireless cards. You need to go on eBay or otherwise and find a wireless card with an HP part number from that era. As far as the antenna, it has been a long time since laptops did not have wireless antennae. The V5000 is new enough that I am sure the factory installed antennae in every one. To be sure just open the memory bay (the middle bay on the bottom) and look for antenna leads. Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
    Wifi card on eBay:

So in a nutshell, sorry no "n" wireless is possible. If there are antennae there will only be two anyway and you need three for "n" wireless in most cases.

  • Winflash gives verify error... dare I reboot?

I flashed my K8N Neo platinum board to 1.8 and USB2 disappeared. Then I tried to flash to 1.91 beta with winflash and all settings enabled (erase cmos, update boot, mdi etc). The flash procedure takes much longer than it does in DOS mode, and when it enters the verify phase it gives "flash block verify error".
Trying to keep cool, I run it again with the 1.7 bios that until last week was the latest official bios. But the same thing happens: long time flashing and verify error.
I suspect that rebooting will result in a dead computer.
    What can I do now?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi
Just a quick update - I am still trying to flash all the different bioses, still no luck.  I have also added bios version 1.4 into the
    list I am trying...
Does anybody know if the rescue floppy disc will work in this situation?  I dont think that Winflash is touching
the bootblock, since it programs DMI, then programs Mainblock, and then fails at 2% verifying the Mainblock.
It does not seem to get to the Bootblock, so will this mean my bootblock should still be intact?  I did select the
clear CMOS option though, would that have wiped the Bootblock prior to starting all the programming?
    Thanks
    Jooppy
Winflash programs in this order :
    1. DMI block
    2. Main BIOS block , then verifies it .
3 .Last erase bootblock , and reprograms it .
Dosflash on the other hand writes bootblock first and is less safe in that way .
If your failed winfllash never came to pt.3 i would say your bootblock is intact and you ought to be able
to make a rescue flash with the awfl833d.exe and parameters placed in autoexec.bat on a msdos startup floppy .
    PS!
Make sure to always kill winflash.exe in taskmanager when switching versions and/or exiting the program .
Because if you have clear cmos selected in winflash it stays in memory all the way to an eventual restart/shutdown of the system .

  • Odd sort of problem

I have a K8N Neo2 Mobo which stopped working, when the power was turned on at the mains all the fans etc started to run but there was no POST.
After much beating about I got my BIOS chip reflashed Great every thing back to normal, my OS boots up and everything runs as it should BUT,
I cannot enter Setup. Sent the chip back and it tested okay so not the chip or a corrupt BIOS.
When I switch on I get the Platinum boot screen and the options to press TAB for boot menu or DEL for Setup if I key Del all I get is a blank screen and a flashing cursor, if I dont press either TAB or DEL my OS boots normally.
I am at a loss, I have trawled the internet and loads of forums and tech sites but no answer til someone suggested I come here and ask, So I'm asking guys can anyone help me?

This sounds familiar but can't find another reference.
Maybe syar or bosskiller  could help here as I seem to think it is to do with bootblock not being flashed/updated following a bios flash.  Should get resolved with adding switch ("/ wb") to the flash.  Or maybe I'm way off the mark.
You didn't have this problem before the bios flash?
Update:- found this from another thread
    Quote
It's not possible to only flash the bootblock .
The /wb switch flash the bios and bootblock together with main bios block (it won't skip the blocks you saw earlier).
I'm not saying bootblock is bios layout , i say bootblock change sometimes from one bios version to another
if there is a major bios workover like layout new features etc (or bug fix in the bootblock part of course).
Let me give you an example .
You want all the old parts in old bios updated and all data reset then you use the following switches with an award flash :
    AWFL822A W6340VMS.630 /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
    /py - Program flash memory
/sn - say no to create backup bios file
    /wb - Program bootblock
/cc - Clear cmos after successful flash
/cd - Clear DMI pool after flash
    /cp - Clear PnP/ESCD data after flash
/f - Force programming with the new bios files programming algorythm
/r - reset PC automaticly after flash
This will create a complete new bios flash like the board was delivered from factory with a initial loaded bios 6.3
if using only AWFL822A W6340VMS.630 , you will have no clearing/new dmi pool , preserve old bootblock version , preserve old PnP/ESCD data ,and you will have to
clrear cmos with jumper after flashing.
Could try reflashing with switches above; obviously substitute your flash utility and bios file.

  • Re: Qosmio G20 blocked on JBOD in the BIOS

    Hi,
I have a problem with the Toshiba Qosmio G20-109 .
The system does not start, the two hard drives in JBOD (unable to start Windows).
    HDD1 - 120GB
    HDD2 - 250GB
So I wanted to put the first HDD 1 1RAID-0 using the method described in the manual : I entered the code 1 2 3 4 and I pressed Enter.
The problem is that once entered the BIOS code remained frozen and blocked.
I tried everything , I 'm not despairing by reaching install an OS.
I hope there is a solution.

    It's simple.
    1RAID-0: HDD 1
    JBOD: HDD 2
DVD Drive does not boot a modified Windows. I had an official version that starts but does not have the driver.
I created a CD with the driver using nLite but he did not recognize.
I found on the internet a CD Win XP SP3 Toshiba OEM.
Miraculously, he possessed the RAID drivers and recognized the hard drives that allowed me to install Windows.
I installed Windows on the HDD 1 and I just formatted the HDD 2.
Thereafter, I installed Windows 7 with the driver.
    Toshiba RAID: 1.11.17
    Toshiba RAID Virtual Device: 1.1.0.0
I updated the firmware of the DVD drive : D100> D101> D102 it allowed me to start the CD created with nLite.
All drivers are up to date for Windows 7.
Only the buttons to the TV does not work (touch keys) !!

  • Blocked Win 8 Bios product key

    Hi,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron with a Bios Win 8 product key.  the problem is that for some reason, this key is blocked.  Dell gave me a new key which works but every 15 mins or so, the msg to activate windows comes up.  When I checked in system,
I can see that Windows somehow goes back to the blocked bios key.  I have to activate it every 15 mins!! How can I solve this? Can I replace the blocked bios key with the new key I have which works?
I tried Formatting (factory state) with recovery disks, through the Dell recovery console and also through the Windows Control Panel.  All to no avail.
    thanks
    Nick

    Hi,
you need to get Dell to fix this, as the manufacturer of the machine, they have the necessary OEM tools.

  • LENOVO N500 SUPERVISOR & BIOS PASWORD BLOCKED

    Hello,
I tried to remove the supervisor password in BIOS by writing the old password, pushing "ENTER" button twicely and then reboot my laptop. After that I still see the password request, but it is not related with my old password and blank password. So my laptop data is bloked.
    Sorry for bad english.
    Thank you for information.

there is a lenovo help page for lost or forgotten passwords.
if the password you have forgotten is not one which can be reset, your options are to remember the password or get the motherboard and/or hard drive replaced. ( contact lenovo support line - call : +370 5 278 66 00 -)
because these passwords are used to protect users' valuable laptops and information, the community rules forbid discussion of ways to defeat them, so I'm locking this thread.
