  • Windows 10 in my 7 year-old HP Compaq 6730s -should I try it out?

Hi, I have an old (but working amazingly good!) 64bit processor HP Compaq 6730s, upgraded with a SSD drive and 8gb DDR2 ram memory. Currently it is dual-booting running windows 7 home premium, 64 bit edition, pretty smoothly -it has given no problems so far, and Ubuntu 14.04. I am pretty tempted to upgrade to windows 10, but given that it is a relatively old computer, I am not sure wether the hardware will be fully compatible with w10... and also I do not want to loose my partitions! So what do you recommend me... shall I go for it? Thank you very much for your help and for creating amazing computers like the 6730s! Gonzalo

Hi: I have the elitebook 6930p which has basically the same hardware as your model. W10 works just fine on mine, but I do not have a webcam, nor do I use the fingerprint reader or protect tools security software, so I cannot confirm that those work on W10. You should be able to recover to W7 very easily if you do not delete the windows.old folder. To revert, go to settings>update and secuity> http://www.askvg.com/how-to-restore-previous-windows-version-after-upgrading-to-windows-10/

  • HP Compaq 6730s battery error 601

Hi, I have HP Compaq 6730s running Windows Vista.
When I switch my laptop on it shows HP battery alert: Error code 601 but I can go on with using it. Since the error message my laptop switches off (with a strange noise) on its own whenever I work.
I use my laptop without the battery nowadays (I took it out and I bought a new adaptor suitable for my HP). However, my Compaq keeps on turning off. Sometimes I can work hours but sometimes it turns off when I log in. I think the battery is not a single problem. I have my laptop for 3 years.
    Please help.

    Hi,
This error code actually refers to your notebooks main battery and not the internal RTC ( CMOS ) cell as it may seem to indicate - see the document on the link below for further details regarding this.

  • Remove the BIOS password for laptop HP Compaq 6520s

    Hello everybody!
Notebook is my HP Compaq 6520s. I set the BIOS password, but now I have forgotten it. How can I remove the password now?
    Thanks everyone!

I do not know what decade the last replier is from but is most apparent that they can not read the written word... the first person said, that they had a laptop not a desktop...  Most laptops that are under eight years old do not have pins to reset the bios...    Everything that the replier stated might work on a desktop computer to reset the password.. but since laptops are to easy to steal the companies have made it more difficult to enter the bios and change things when they are password... There are three ways to remove the forgotten password    1 remember it    2 call Hp to get the backdoor password  3  replace the motherboard.. that is it... most of the bios clearing programs are made for dos and will not work with windows above windows 98... xp vista and 7 are NT and will not allow access to the bios..........

  • How to Roll Back a Failed BIOS Update for my HP Compaq 6735s (467826R-999) Notebook

I have searched the community and HP pages for instructions to uninstall a BIOS Update in case it fails, and I haven't found the procedure.
My notebook is an  HP Compaq 6735s (467826R-999) running the Windows 7 64 bit Professional SP1, and a BIOS revision level of HP "68GPP F.0E, 09/14/09".
Going to the Drivers/Downloads for this notebook
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=3687622&spf_p...
I can see my old F.0E of 9/14/09 is super old because there is the F.21 dated 30-Jul-2012, GREAT!!    I just have to be sure I can recover from a (possible) failed BIOS Update.
Oh yeah, one more thing:  I'm not sure of the differences between the HPQFlash, the ROM Image, and the ROMPaq listed rows in the link above.  Which should I run?
    Thank you for your efforts!

Were your suggestions assuming that I had already run a BIOS update?  I have not.  I'm just trying to be sure that I can recover from a failed attempt!  I plan to run the BIOS update on 9/20/13.
So, when I follow your suggestion of Restart, then "F2", my notebook goes into a System Diagnostics menu.
I spent some time in the F10, BIOS Setup, Maintenance screens but didn't find any option to RollBack.  Again, I suppose it is because I'm running the original, F.0E version!
    I also checked the link
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02693833
you provided to Restore your BIOS, and the tips didn't work for me - at least not with the original version installed.
If I do take the plunge, which would you recommend:
    HPQFlash
    ROM Image
    ROMPaq
    Thank you!

  • BIOS black-screen on a Compaq Presario CQ61-300z CTO (VU087AV)

Getting the 2 blinks indicating a corrupt BIOS.  I've found both F.03 and F.15  BIOS levels, and have copied the *.fd files to a flash drive, both at the root and at path '\hewlett-packard\bios\current\' then pressed Win+B keys while powering up...  no success.  PLEASE HELP!!

    Hey WAYNEBO,
I'm sorry you're running into this issue with the BIOS. Have you tried creating a UEFI flashdrive yet? The UEFI software creates a bootable flashdrive with a stable BIOS version on it.
    1. You could download the UEFI here, using a different computer.
    2. When you double-click on the downloaded file, it will prompt you to create a flashdrive. It's preferable to use an empty one (just to avoid losing any of your data), at least 2GB.
    3. Once you've created the flashdrive, insert it into the affected computer and, just like you've been doing, press the Power button and immediately start holding down Windows key + B for about 5 seconds.
    4. Wait while it loads about 3-5 minutes, for an image to appear on the screen.
    5. Once the image appears, you'll be prompted to Rollback BIOS. Click that and allow it to finish.
That should rollback the BIOS. Sometimes it doesn't work on the first try. Give it a couple of tries. Let me know the results when you get a chance

    Welcome Jim.

I have seen these at the warehouse before.
If you do not receive a code then I will experiment on one tomorrow.

  • Need to change s/n in insydeh20 bios

i need any tools to edit insyeh20 bios or DMI,as my compaq presario cq61 keeps displaying no s/n no while booting

Identify your notebook with its complete product name or number.
Remove the battery and look for a label that says p/n. there is an alphanumeric string there that completely identifies your notebook.
    Please provide the following information.
Customer location (country is close enough for starters)
PC Model information (model number and product number would help)
"did it ever work", "when did it last work", "what changed"
    The installed BIOS version
Was there a recent BIOS update performed that caused this to happen?

  • MS-6541 Compaq

I have a Compaq EVO computer with a MS-6541 mainboard.
The now board has a Compaq BIOS, dunno if u've ever seen one, but Compaq BIOS's suck real bad.
That's why I want to "upgrade" my BIOS to a standard "MSI" (Award) BIOS. The big problem is the MS-6541 mainboard isn't listed anywhere! To me it looks like the MS-6526G, but I'm not really sure.
Can anyone give some info so I can get rid of the Compaq BIOS.
    b.t.w. - Compaq won't help me...

Well....I really don't care if I kill it...
    My AMD XP1600+/256 MB 133 SD/40 GB 7200 ATA100/GF3 64Mb DDR outperforms this crappy P4 2.54/512 DDR266/GF4600 128 MB/ 2 x 40 GB 7200 ATA100 (software-) raid!!
Sounds impossible right? Buy one if u don't believe me
    Worst thing I ever bought.
I'm thinking about buying a new mobo anyway, but not before I give it one last try in killi...sorry....updating it so I might toggle some settings.
Is there anyway of forcing a BIOS update? Cause the MSI flash util keeps flashing "Please wait" for hours..

    Hi Todd,
If you get same symptom on external monitor, your VRAM probably broken. You need to replace a new system board.
Otherwise you can try to reassemble the LCD cable, or check if cable got damaged.
    Thanks,
