Bios corrupted, help please!

Hello,
I have downloaded the latest version of BIOS firmware from Toshibas website. I checked it clearly with the model nr and serial nr. I went to the nordic site of bios update and downloaded the latest driver and BIOS.
My laptop is Satellite P200-1A2 and the serial nr is PSPB6E-02J023N5. From Toshibas website, I downloaded all the necessary drivers and bios. I started out with the installation of BIOS, when I tried to install it, then my pc froze. My power supply was on. The fan went all beserk and the screen was all frozen. I tried to let it work for 30 min, since I was afraid to interupt the installation. I couldn't wait more, so I turned the pc off by taking out the battery and power. When I then tried to turn on the laptop, nothing happens. All black screen.
Can anyone help? I did use the correct BIOS driver from Toshiba's own homepage, but apparently it didn't work. How can I restore the BIOS? I'm not sure what BIOS that I use. When I hold down Fn + B, and turn on the power, then all fans become crazy and DVD/HD ROM is also on.

This must be Toshibas responsibility, since their own BIOS firmware crashed my pc. I don't want to spend money, I have already spend enought money for this old laptop alone. So I think it would be a pity, if I have had to pay for reparing my laptop.
I followed this procedure prescisely from : http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/870-Bios-Recovery-Procedures?p=26249#post26249
1. Use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool with MiniDOS files to make your Bootable:USB Flash Drive (Flash Drive works in rear cases).
1: Worked perfect to make a USB flash drive, but what do you mean about Rear cases? You mean rare cases insted of rear? And I don't have a diskdrive, so how can I make an image file with boot, so I can add them on CD?
2. Copy all the files from Rescue to your: USB Stick
2one
3. Rename your BIOS file to bios.wph and copy it to your: USB Stick
3: I downloaded the same BIOS firmware and downloaded as EXE file, I extracted exe file and found a file called .ROM and I renamed the entire file into bios.wph
4. Remove the battery, unplug the computer from the power.
4: Done
5. Hold down: Fn+B and while holding plug the computer in to power (do not plug the battery) and pres the power button.
5: Done
6. Now you should hear the flopy drive working, hold the keys for a while and then let go.
6: I don't have a floppy drive but a HD/DVD/CD drive and that is working but with my USB flash drive, nothing happens
7. Leve the computer for at least 10 min. and if the computer does not restart it self turn the power down.
7: Nothing happens, I sense that it is not even reading the USB drive. So after 30 min, it still on and doing nothing
8. Plug the battery and the power sorce and if everything went OK the computer shold start normaly.
Note: This procedure is for Phoenix BIOS`es only and in some cases the USB Stick might not work.
8: Yes, the USB stick doesn't work, but how can I use create a bootable image file? And what are the steps for that? I don't have a floppy drive, most PC now a days doesn't use floppy drive.

  • H520s Windows 8 DVD-ROM disabled and error 19 - registry corrupt Help please!

Hi all and hoping for help with H520s, 64bit  OS Windows 8. Error message showing  problem with DVD-RAM Mat**bleep**a SW820; this is disabled in the device manager, and I can't use the DVD drive as a result. (yellow triangle)
Have tried windows fix utility on pc ; drivers are up to date. Have disabled, enabled etc. But it's still error 19
This was working perfectly until a couple of days ago when Microsoft ran a mega load of updates, including critical windows 8 updates. Am wondering if there's some conflict?
Have searched the Lenovo solution centre for up to date drivers for the dvd-RW but there aren't any. Don't really want to uninstall the DVD-ROM drive and attempt reinstall unless can definitely reinstall and can't find anything that reassures me I wil be able to do so.
Wondering if Is this similar to another issue on Toshiba pcs where it seems, according to various searches,  it was a corrupted registry entry due to conflicts with pre installed pc rescue type utilities?
I'm no IT expert and the idea of registry fiddling is not reassuring.

  • BIOS Overclocking, help please!

Hi people! I readed days ago a post where an user wrote a key combination to make this:
Lets supose that you are overclocking and you go too far, so the machine won't boot and you will have to reset BIOS.
This key combination allows you to enter BIOS when this happens, without losing any changes of the o'clocking!!! Awesome!
(I hate going too far and reset the BIOS and make all the settings again and again)
Any1 remembers the key combination??? I can't remember it and I can't find the post again! :(:(
It was something like Shift + F6...
Thanks! Help would be very apreciated! And like I say everytime, sorry for my english!!!

  • K7N2 Delta2 Platinum Bios settings help please

Please forgive me if I seem a bit stupid, but we all have to start somewhere.
As you can see from my signature although an old socket A set-up this should still perform pretty well when my son plays his games (Age of Empires 3) but the dam thing keeps crashing (back to the desktop) and performace is not what it should be.
I built the pc my self so I am ok to fiddle about with things but I am not as knowalgable as most people on this forum, So I would like someone to help me with some BIOS settings on this board, can anyone recommend some settings that would work well.

Having now read the excellent post by klondike on this board I want to update my bios to the 11.50 (B50) version.
I know about all the dangers of updating your bios but as I am having prob’s with my board and it seems like the B5 bios is better that the B4, I want to update it but I have tried now for 2 hours to update it and I am obviously doing something very wrong and it is doing my head in!
I have read the MSI guide to bios updating and others on this forum but I can’t get anything to even start to work.
I have downloaded and un-zipped the B50 bios update for my board. I have put the unzipped files in a folder in the C: drive I have named “test” I have made a dos floppy and set my bios to 1st boot floppy but when I boot to it at the A prompt you type C: (and enter) and it says bad file or command (I can’t remember which) so I then tried burning the bios files to a cd and once again after booting to the dos there is no option to get it to boot or find the cd drive you just get the A: prompt
I have also tried updating it though live update but live update says the latest version is 11.4 (B4) and that is what my board already has so I can’t update it from there as MSI have not updated their live update page.
I am almost at my wits end and feel like setting light to the dam thing, all I want to do is up date my bios its not that hard I have done it before on other pc’s but I can’t remember how I did it! (thats my age)
Please can someone spare me a few minutes to talk me though this.

  • Time Capsule sparsebundle corruption help please

    Hi
I went away for a week and when I came back I found that the Time Capsule was not backing up. Apparently, my family tells me there was a power outage during my absence and, therefore, this might be the cause of the problems.
I have a Time Capsule acting as our Time Machine drive which is accessed wirelessly from a MacBook.
Double clicking on the sparsebundle got me a message that 'Resource not available' and some searching of this forum makes me think the bundle is corrupted. I followed some advice to use the Terminal to force a mount of the bundle into Disk Utility and this is what appeared in the Terminal window:
    <pre>
    2010-03-28 23:58:21.207 hdiutil[474:c0b] Error loading /Library/Plug-ins/DiskImages/NUMPlugin.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NUMPlugin: dlopen(/Library/Plug-ins/DiskImages/NUMPlugin.bundle/Contents/MacOS/NUMPlugin, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:

I am no Unix guru and I have no intention of using the Terminal except with explicit guidance as I really have no idea what I'm doing with it. As a result, I have no idea what the output means, but it doesn't look good. However I am generally technologically savvy.
As you may imagine, I would like to try to save the back ups contained in the bundle if at all possible before I hook up the laptop via ethernet to the TC and start everything again.
Right now, I have stopped further TM backups. I have already tried switching off TM, rebooting and then reselecting the TC but to no avail.
Any/all help will be so gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance
    Graeme

Please don't post messages this way. They are difficult to read. For problems with Time Machine I would suggest
you start here: User Tips for Time Machine.
Note that if you cannot mount the sparsebundle in order to repair it using Disk Utility, then the sparsebundle is beyond
help. Erase the backup drive and start over. For a Time Capsule open Airport Utility, click on the Manual Update button.
Select Airport Utility Help from the Help menu and search for "erase." This will get you the help file on how to erase a
    TC drive.

  • **New User** Memory, PCI Express, BIOS Need Help Please

So, I just got my mobo installed and now I am having some troubles. First, my specs:
    AMD Phenom 9850BE
    Corsair XMS 1066 Dominator series 5-5-5-18 2.1v
    MSI HD3870 800mhz edition
    Antec 1000w psu.
    Asus Xonar DX sound card
    Vista Business 64bit
    RAM Location:
Do I follow the colors (Green -DIMM1 and DIMM3, Orange - DIMM2 and DIMM4) or do I put them D1+D2, D3+ D4? Logically I would follow the colors, but the handbook says to use D1+D2, etc. Also, I set my mobo timings of the RAM to 1:2.66 so it would run at 1066mhz.  I set the voltage to 2.1v and got a bsod. But this is the way to change the RAM settings right?
    Graphics Card Setup:
Right now I have my gfx card in the Teal/Light blue PCIe slot. Is this the mazarine color they describe? Also I plan on putting an HD4870 to crossfire with my 3870 once they come out, do I put that in the other Teal/Light blue PCIe slot? I do not know if this will fit that way, the USB/E1394 cables might be in the way, which would really upset me. Can anyone put a card on the first darker blue slot? The pipelines are in the way for me.
    BIOS:
I do not know what version I have and if it is up to date. I tried LiveUpdate 3 to see if it was updated, but it kept giving me a "Services not started" or "cannot start service" error over and over.
    eSATA:
I tried hooking up my eSATA external hard drive and it didnt work. I have to enable the onboard Raid controller option in the BIOS. I do not use RAID so I disable it, and I hate hate the startup check it has when booting. How do I work around this?
Thank you for your help, I know that this is probably somewhere hidden within the forums, but I really need to get this thing going and am trying to set up other things and never really find the specific answers I am looking for. Thanks again guys.

I do not know how to tell what version it is. I believe it is a MS-7376 Ver 1.0.   I just bought it from newegg maybe 2 weeks ago. MSI CPU support says that it supports 9850BE 125W CPU. I upgraded to the 1.4 BIOS version.    What do I do?
The gfx situation isn't pretty. I wanted to go Crossfire, but I doubt that will happen. I cannot get my card into the top darker blue pci-e slot due to the pipelines being in the way. Currently I have my card in the lower lighter teal blue color, which I guess is the PCIe 8x slot. Newegg said they were 16x for all of them and then 8x if they were in Quad CF.  Oh, I also have a PCIe 1x Sound Card that is right under the first dark blue PCIe. So I cannot put the card up top at all. The other lighter teal blue PCIe slot is on the bottom of the motherboard and will not have any place to put a double cooler slot GFX card into it. So, the only way I can go crossfire is if I put the Light Teal Blue 8x slot with a Card directly under it in the Darker blue 16x slot.

  • GTX580 Twin Frozr II OC BIOS File Help Please

Hii guys!  I just got my GTX 580 Twin Frozr II OC installed today and I'm really excited but I'm having a bit of a problem.
I've tried flashing the BIOS using the MSI HQ USB Flasher but the program says that the BIOS file I downloaded from the MSI website is not a valid file. Live Update 5 can't seem to detect my motherboard model or BIOS Version and, possibly, as a result does not find any updates for the card. Also, the MSI website mentions an EXE file that's supposed to be in the BIOS file archive, yet there is no EXE file in the archive.
I need to flash the BIOS (?) because my graphics card keeps crashing when playing games.  Most times: black screen, followed by the card reverting back to stock speeds. Twice, however, the screen got completely messed up and I had to hard reset the computer. That was when I set the voltage to 1150. And yes, even at stock speeds and the stock voltage (which is how I have the comp running atm), the card crashes.. just after a longer while. It's also not a heat problem because my in-game temps stay around 65ish.
I'm sure the rest of my computer is stable because most of the components have been replaced including the old PSU I had; to a Corsair TX 750W.
I feel like I'm missing something obvious, because flashing the GPU BIOS is new to me.
But, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot Svet! I was able to flash the BIOS without any problems, however I quickly returned to the old BIOS ROM because the graphics card was much more unstable with the "new" BIOS. (Which ironically also has a lower BIOS version number than the one that came with the card). Overclocking at all would really mess up the screen and at stock speeds (800, 1600, 2048) it would crash. I reinstalled Windows (went from 7 Home Premium x64 to 7 Ultimate x64) because it got messed up during some installations I was doing and now... everything's running like butter. :\
After booting it up, I reinstalled all my games and every single one of them runs fine. I still get some really bad FPS in Splinter Cell Conviction, which is upsetting because I was looking forward to maxing it out and playing it at 60.. but whatevs.
I've tested the card also using
Assassin's Creed (From 1 to Revelations)
    Battlefield 3
    Dragon Age 2
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Crysis 2
    Saints Row The Third
    NFS Run,
    and Arkham City.
The card has a lot of trouble playing Arkham City with Physx on or with any of the DX11 features and I'm surprised I'm getting poor FPS at all in some games because I'm actually only using a 1600x900 display. I'm not complaining because all the other games run maxed out pretty well; and the card seems stable. I was also able to overclock it, which was tricky until I decided not to overclock the memory - so that the Afterburner values are 1150 (voltage), 900, 1800, 2048, 85 (fan). It looks like if I overclock the memory at all the graphics card crashes. Was a tad disturbing as I read that others have gotten better overclocks but... again, the important thing is that it's stable and running well. But, out of curiosity, why can't it overclock higher like others have managed to get it to?
    Two questions though:
I'm using Nvidia's 290.36 Beta drivers - is that okay? Or should I only use the drivers from MSI's site?
(To note, I've used all of Nvidia's drivers and they all appear to deliver the same performance across all games. By "all drivers" I mean the 280.26, 285.62, 285.79, as well as the 290.36.)
How long is the standard warranty on this card?
Again, thanks Svet for pointing me in the right direction.  :D
I'm even more excited now for SW: The Old Republic.
Aphax my GPU's serial number is "602-V255-060B1107208512" - why do you ask though?

  • BIOS Update help, please?

I just updated my processor from an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and it isn't being recognized as a dual core processor in Windows.  Everything else is working fine except for that.  As I understand it, I need to update the BIOS to correct that.
I've been reading here and the MSI instructions and there seems to be several sets of instructions for flashing the BIOS most of which directly conflict with each other with instructions about extracting the BIOS file to a floppy or extracting it to the HD?  Booting with a Win98 floppy or boot with a WinXP-prepared MS DOS floppy (I don't have any Win98 machines nor do I have any friends with win98 machines)?  Using WinFlash?  Setting jumpers (I don't see jumpers on my board Guide)?
I would so appreciate it if it were possible to get a single, coherent, set of instructions for flashing the BIOS so I don't completely hose my system?
I have overclocked or done anything else unusual.  I do have RAID drives in 0+1 configuration and everything is formatted to NTFS, if that matters.
Hopefully everything else is in the signature. If other information is needed, please just ask.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
HP notebook computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional.
Try restoring BIOS using instructons in this HP web document. You have to strictly follow it to elicit a positive response. The timings are of utmost importance and you've keep on trying many times.
If that didn't work, try recovering the notebook BIOS using an external storage device (USB key) as mentioned in the doucment ...
The latest HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ is sp69886.exe .  Run the installer and create a USB key as per instructions from another PC.
(This package contains the WinFlash utility and a system BIOS image for the supported notebook model running a supported operating system. The WinFlash utility is used to locally flash the system BIOS (ROM) on notebooks operating in a Microsoft Windows environment.)
Previous version of HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ sp66941.exe ,  is also available. You can try with this if latest one don't work out.
Note: Keep the laptop plugged in with AC adapter to Power supply during the whole process.
If the above methos doesn't work, please Contact HP in your region or local computer service center for further help in this regard.

hi, thanks to anyone that has any input on this problem its much appriciated,
I am looking at my brothers laptop, pavillion DV6 2020sa he had a virus lock the screen, he held the power button to switch it off, upon reboot he gets the blank screen and flashing leds (2 flashes) upon lookin up it says bios corrupt, i have downloaded the bios from HP tis 3635.bin and have put in on a USB drive, the sticker under the battery also says 3635, so im confident i have the right one.
I then hold the win + B button and then power, it starts, and shortly after the USB stick light up and flashes, then stops, then flashes again, at that point i get 6 beeps, then silence, then i get 5 slow beeps, i have read this is meant to happen, but then its meant to resart, and this is the bit that dont happen, it dont do anything, when i restart it, it just does the same flashing lights.
am i doing something wrong, or something im missing.
    Thanks again for any help.
    Jamie.

You will need an eeprom programmer to reprogram a new BIOS chip with a fresh BIOS file. It takes a special hot air tool to successsfully remove and replace a notebook BIOS chip. This is not just normal soldering. This is what real electronics technicians and workers at an electronics R&D lab and workers on the assembly line at manufacturer do. Unless you just happen to be an electronics enthusiast or engineer, and I am guessing you are not since you asked these questions, this may be out of your league. If you feel adventurous and have  your brother's permission to use his notebook as a guinea pig...go for it! It is not as easy as the guy in the video made it look. He is a trained technician and  does it for a living.
