Bios created its own password, what do i do?

Ok, here is what i believed to of happened. I had a bios password as well as fingerprint scan for the boot password. I also had the same login password and fingerprint scan for the windows login password. I wanted to change a setting in the bios so I restarted my computer and pressed F1 to enter bios. It asked for scan or password which I entered, then it let me in. The setting I wanted to change had something to do with the SATA Controller. I then found out that it wouldnt let me select the setting to change the setting. It was greyed out and just beeped when I tried to press F5/F6 to make my selection. I went to some other areas of the bios and noticed anything important was the same way. I couldnt even Save and Exit, it just gave me the option to restart and nothing else. So, I decided to erase the bios settings so I took the keyboard off and unplugged the CMOS battery and waited for around 10 minutes to reconect it. I then turned on my laptop only to get a two beep error and a message reading "check date and time" and "the system has been tampered with". Then the page that normally came up with the padlock come up and I tried to put my password in and now it doesnt work. I only get three tries before it freezes and I have to restart the laptop. This is a z61m, there is no warranty left, and lenovo says they cant help me over the phone without charging me $175 - $575. I do not have this kind of money. Please help. Thank you!

@ skypirate,
you will need to talk to the dealer who sold you the system or Lenovo support about this.

  • My iPod created its own password and locked me out, now I have to restore it, but iTunes won't restore it.

When I powered off my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) and back on, it created a password, which I never had one set. After trying several times, it has locked me out officially and is saying, "iPod is disabled Connect to iTunes." When I managed to get it into recovery mode, it will start to restore it, then come up with an error message saying, "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."
Any idea on how to get it to restore?
          -Thanks!
I did have a password, but got rid of it in November of 2011. I did try it, as well as several other passwords.

    Start here.
There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink doesn't work, try again.

  • My iPod created its own password between last night an this morning. All I did was shut down. It worked when I left my work.

Why would this even happen? I have had it at least 5 years and suddenly it does this? Never had a passcode

Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

my ipod touch 2 somehow created its own password and I'm locked out.  How do I fix this so I can use my device?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Will Apple Create Its Own Version Of 2-Step Verification For Apple Services?

I create strong passwords which include numbers, upper and lower case letters, !? and other allowed symbols.  However, even with good passwords, key-logger programs and other methods can be used to hack accounts.
Google has created the Google Authenticator App which is 2-step Verification.  It is very secure and makes external hacking as close to impossible as one can get.  I use it for my Google Products, including Gmail, Blogger, Google+ and so on.  It is an added step which can seem like a pain, but I really enjoy the sense of added security.
Will Apple ever create its own version to help secure iCloud, Apple Mail, iTunes, so on?  I would really like to see this as an optional security feature.

You can make feature enhancement requests directly to the Apple folks if you like. Here's a link to the iTunes product feedback form:

In some folks' version of the world, you have plenty of ways. YOu have the aforementioned services, you have iCloud, all you need is an internet connection and you're good to go. And that works perfectly...if you always have the internet.
If you want more non-internet dependant ways, then the best way to let Apple know is to send them feedback. They don't monitor or respond to this forum (Beyond removing rule breaking posts) but they do at least log feedback. However, the lack of a file manager will always be an obstacle. There are some apps out there that have at least a pseudo file manager - as in the ability to move documents into multiple other apps. I have Readdle Docs which I can use to download and move things around with, but again, back to the internet or wireless.

  • My WD Passport for mac won't recognise its own password or show up on the desktop

I have a Macbook Pro and have been using the Passport for 3 months without a problem. The cable was pulled out without ejecting the Passport the correct way. Now it doesn't show up on the desktop and a colourless window pops up and asks for the password. Im 100% sure the password is correct. The window thinks about it for about 20sec then shakes to not accept it.
I have tried to repair the Passport and that has not worked. Does anyone have another solutations to access the HD?
The passport still works, the light comes on and still spins.
It seems as if it has forgotten its own password and not recognised by the computer.

    Allan,
    Thank you for your reply.
Yes the WD Passport for Mac has its own password to access the drive. It is an option that i stupidly activated once it was installed. Previously as i plugged the Passport in it would pop up on my desktop and ask for the password. Which it would accept and then i could access the data. Now nothing comes up on my desktop but still asks for the password but does not accept it. The colour of the window for the password has also changed. It now looks like the "security and privacy" icon that you can find in your systems preferences.
It seems as if it has forgotten its own password or there is some other security or problem blocking me.
I obviously wasn't aware that this product had so many problems. I have not installed the Mavericks program to this computer yet as it takes time and im on the road without and solid internet connections.
I will persist with searching forums and trying to recover the data
Any information or help would be awesome!!!!

  • How do I prevent fullscreen to create its own space or how do I create a keyboard shortcut to such a fullscreen space

    Hello,
In Mountain Lion, I could select from the dock icon the Options -> Assign To -> This Desktop to link back a fullscreen app to one desktop which allowed me to have a direct shortcut to my fullscreen app, e.g. ⌘3. In Mavericks this does not work and I cannot find how to disable the new space for fullscreen app nor how to create a keyboard shortcut for switch directly to that app once it's in fullscreen.
Any help would be much appreciated, I would hate to have to downgrade back to Mountain Lion.

The most typical solution for enterprise sites is to store their users credentials in an LDAP store such as Oracle Internet Directory (OID) or MS Active Directory. LDAP is an industry standard for extremely fast directory services over IP network infrastructure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightweight_Directory_Access_Protocol).
In turn some sites store their user credentials in databases tables. Of course databases can be configured for fast lookups too, but it is a database centric solution where LDAP is designed to work across networks and is ideal for servers as a result which live and breath on the network.
In case of Java EE applications and especially those written in ADF, the use of these services isn't written into the application, but rather the application delegates this responsibility of configuring and providing these services back to the Java EE server. So for example Edwin's post is about configuring a WLS "security provider" to lookup user's info from the database, and here is another blog I wrote for MS Active Directory a while back (http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com.au/2008/12/configuring-wls-with-ms-active.html). The main advantage here is you don't have every application baking its own solution, rather WLS provides a standard well tested way to configure the security lookups.
In terms of writing (i.e. creating users) to the security store over reading from it, indeed you need to build your own code. Ramandeep Singh Nanda has a nice post on doing this with OID through Oracle's OPSS: http://ramannanda.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/opss-adf-security-utility.html
Finally what sites like Amazon and Facebook do aren't necessarily good examples to follow as they're application's requirements are typically far in excess of a typical enterprise site, and in turn have often written bespoke solutions to deal with their scalability and distribution requirements. I dare say LDAP is a good choice for 99% of enterprises.

  • IPages creates its own limited space text box

Upon opening a new document using the blank template, once we begin typing, the program seems to throw its own text box around the text. This "box" only utilizes approx half the page, and we can't continue to type. If we click outside the box, it disappears, but once we try to resume typing it reappears. There seems to be no way to resize/reformat it, or make it go away. What are we doing wrong?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You're typing in the header. There is no text layer in Layout mode as there is in Word Processing mode. You have to create a text box. Choose Show Layout from the View menu and you can see the header and footer. See my replies in "Can't Change Document Margins in Template" for a bit more information on the Layout mode.

  • HP ENVY 4500 creates its own SSID on my WiFi network causing problems and confusion

I am finding this problem hard to articulate clearly and I can’t find any information on the internet about why my new HP Envy 4500 printer has set itself up with its own SSID on my WiFi network, but here goes :
I bought an HP Envy 4500 all in one printer for my daughter’s room in university, which has a WiFi network with WPA security. First I tried to add this printer to the room WiFi using the printer menu, but it gave an error stating that the WPA passkey format was incorrect, when in fact it was the correct password. So instead I had to install the printer using the installation options accessed from the HP website using her laptop.
This has worked, but it has also set the printer up with its own independent SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’. This separate SSID for the printer is causing some problems and does not seem to have any useful purpose. For example sometimes documents randomly will not print from the laptop, but if you then disconnect the laptop from the room SSID and reconnect it to the printer SSID, the documents will then print, but then you have to reconnect to the room's SSID when done. This is confusing and of course completely unwanted behaviour.
Does anyone know why this new SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’ has been set up for the printer please? Can I get rid of it so that printer is simply a device connected on the WiFi network in the room please?
I hope this makes sense as this a very frustrating issue for something that should be completely straightforward.
    Thanks.

  • Oracle considering creating its own Linux Distro?

According to this article they are:
    http://news.com.com/Oracle+says+may+launch+own+Linux+version/2100-7344_3-6061696.html
If they do decide to create an Oracle Linux, what Distro would you like to see them base it on?
RH? [ a quick scan shows the issues RH has with Oracle's software right now ]
    Debian?
    Suse?
    Slack?
    Gentoo?
Actually, I would recommend they work with a from scratch distro and build it themselves completely, since RH is as far from being standards compliant as possible, Suse isn't a lot better.
Debian is closest to being standards compliant, but since the standard states RPM is the package manager and Debian won't downgrade from their own .deb system they aren't fully compliant.
Red Hat has the major Market share, but buying a bugware distro and fixing it would cost more than rolling their own from scratch would.
I would love to see a Company that could give Microsoft a run for their money backing a Linux Distribution, but I would hate to see that company saddle themselves with bugware to start with. I say that rolling their own is the best way for Oracle to go

One thing that could be done quite simply is to produce an appliance style distro.
Most distros try to be all things to all people (Server, Desktop, Laptop, Appliance). Oracle only need a secure distro that can run their products and a browser. No need for 1 million and 1 additon tools and packages. No openoffice or mail client. Just a solid server distro to run Oracle database and app servers.
I can see the appeal of that, and it's less of a threat to the other Linux vendors.
    Cheers
