BIOS Erased on update in Windows

Toshiba offers BIOS updates that are executable within Windows, but, after trying to and failing, I read that you should never do BIOS updates within Windows on a Toshiba product. Kind of silly that it's an option given that they consistently fail.
So now, I am faced with an erased BIOS and a need to restore it. I have the BIOS backup on disk, and I have read about others that have this problem on other models. What I am asking for is directions to restore the BIOS as the other threads that I have read are, or seem to be, specific to other models.
Model: L455-S5975
Part: PSLY0U-00V001
The laptop will power up, nothing on the display, and it seems to want to read from a CD/DVD. I tried using my BIOS.BAK file that I recovered from the HDD. I renamed the BAK file BIOS.fd, BIOS.ROM in attempts to get the machine to restore the original BIOS, no luck.
I tried using CrysDisk to make a bootable USB, no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • Compaq Presario SR2129UK bios update for windows 8 pro 32bit

    Hi all.
I have recently upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 pro to Windows 8 pro. I have alos changed the CPU to a pentium D, The power supply and the graphics card but I am having from with my SD ram and temperature displays.
I want to upgrade my bios if possible due to all the upgrades, when I looked in this site it doesn't mention windows 8 operating system with my PC? My system info is below.
Compaq Presario SR2129UK bios update for windows 8 pro 32bit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi:
The only BIOS update for your model is for Windows Vista (v5.23).
There aren't any newer BIOS releases than that one.
You would need to be running Windows Vista in order to update the BIOS, or you would run a better than 99% chance of completely wrecking your PC.

  • Internet browsers do not work after updating to Windows 8.1.

I have spent several hours researching my issue, performing fixes that have worked for others, but to no avail. I have talked with 3rd party tech supports, in addition to Microsoft tech support. I also recently spent 3 hours under remote access with a helpdesk
    employee. To no avail.
    My issue:
Recently updated to Windows 8.1. Immediately following, none of my browsers work. Internet Explorer is entirely out of commission. Firefox and Chrome, however, interestingly, are able to open simple google pages: gmail, google maps, google search - I can
even search things that I want and results will show up... they just will not load if I click on them. The error message when I click on "More" says something along the lines of "maybe it's your firewall or antivirus wrongly detecting Chrome...",
and I think maybe something similar for Firefox. Explorer simply says that it cannot display the page.
So, how am I writing this? I am currently booted up in Safe Mode, with networking. Apparently it works here, which I'm hoping indicates that the issue to resolvable.
    Remedies I have attempted:
I have restarted my computer over 60 times in the past 2 days.
I have troubleshooted the internet connection via the button that says "troubleshoot". It says it cannot identify the problem.
I have executed various command prompts executed as administrator: i.e. netsh winsock refresh, advfirewall refresh, something to do with ipv4, ipv6, a bunch of "IP stack resets", etc, etc.
I have manually added chrome, firefox, and explorer to my firewall exceptions, both via McAfee and via the Windows firewall system. Both simultaneously, one at a time, etc, every combination of this.
I have uninstalled the web browsers and reinstalled them.
I have unintalled my antivirus and reinstalled it, and checked in between.
I have turned my firewall off.
I have manually inputted some kind of DNS address (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and/or IP address (forget exactly what was asked of me to input).
I have gone to my "Manage Devices" and updated all of my network drivers, and attempted to revert to old versions of drivers.
There are probably more things that I have tried, I just don't remember exactly and cannot list them. Most things you can find on Google pertaining to this issue, I've tried.
Is there anything at all that anyone can think of to fix this situation? I am about ready to refresh my computer/do a systems restore/whatever to erase everything, factory reset, even (hopefully it works, because I've read that some people have issue, i.e.
no previous partition found or something, or no recovery media present, etc, etc).
Before I resign to this, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME.
Also, may I please note here that given the sheer frequency of this issue around the web that I've found, I think it is absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible of Microsoft not to rectify the issue. This is even 3+ months following the release of the
update; I always lag on updating such that bugs like these are fixed before I get on the train. This update has essentially reduced my multi-hundred dollar computer to an infantile calculator/solitaire/checkers/Microsoft office LCD screen. Not to mention wasted
2 full days of my time.
Sorry, just saw red there at the end and had to vent my anger. Please help.

    Hi,
I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will try to help you in fixing the issue.
Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment to check if there is some conflicts with network.
If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

  • 785GM-E51 BIOS problem after upgrading to Windows 8

Randomly (it seems) I can't enter my BIOS or use the F11 key to choose the boot device when starting or restarting my 785GM-E51 based system - but only running Windows 8 or 8.1.
Whenever I wipe Windows 8 off the drive and reinstall Windows 7 I have no problem ever, same when I used XP.  But When I upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1, much of the time (but not always) I can't enter the BIOS, nor is there that message at the bottom of the screen when booting up that says to press esc to enter the BIOS or F11 to select the boot device.  This happens whenever I use Windows 8 or 8.1 as the operating system.
I am currently running the latest BIOS, but this has happened with the 2 previous BIOS versions I reflashed as well.  Currently, the only way I can enter the BIOS is to reboot sometimes up to 10 times before I finally see that message at the bottom and then I can enter the BIOS, etc.
How could the operating system have this effect on the BIOS?
(Currently I have flashing disabled and also I password protect the whole system with a BIOS password.)
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Hello again and thanks for your reply,
If that 'Del or F11" message doesn't show up on the bottom line of the screen when restarting before the BIOS prompts me for my system password, you can't enter the BIOS at all, ever.  The MSI logo is disabled, but changing that doesn't do anything different either.  No matter how many times you press the Del key the BIOS often won't recognize it when the boot drive is Windows 8 or 8.1.  You have to reboot over and over (sometimes 10 or more times) until you see that message, then you know the BIOS will recognize the 'Del' key and you can go into the BIOS.  Interestingly, what sometimes works when this is happening, is to go into a Windows account, then restart or shutdown.  The next time you can usually (but not always) see that message and know you'll be able to enter the BIOS.
I've taken out the memory for another issue, but that didn't change anything.  I've tried changing from my DVI monitor cable to VGA (also for something unrelated) and that didn't do anything either. I installed a new graphics card, instead of using the AMD onboard graphics, and that didn't change anything either.
And to be clear, this only happens with Windows 8 or 8.1, not Window 7, XP, linux, etc.
What I do now is I have 2 SSDs, one with Windows 7, the other with Windows 8.1.  You can always press 'Del' or 'F11' before the BIOS password prompt appears when the Windows 7 SSD is the boot drive (the only drive).  But when you use the Windows 8.1 drive to startup (again the only drive), you have this problem much of the time.  And this has been happening since I upgraded to Windows 8 when it was released 2 years ago (8/2012), even trying different revisions of the BIOS firmware (last update 2/2011).

  • Updated bios via Live Update and now my Network card isn't detected

I have an msi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard and I updated some drivers and the bios via msi Live Update 6 last night and now my computer refuses to recognize my network adapter. The adapter is a TRENDnet N600, plugs into PCIe if I'm not mistaken. Wifi if my only option with this computer, I can't use ethernet, so it's really important I get the network card working again. I have had zero issues with it until this.
The reason I was updating was to try to get my third monitor to work when plugged into the mobo, while my other two were plugged into the graphics card (which I also installed yesterday, but it's working fine). Note that it still was not working, but I had enabled the IGD Multi-Monitor from bios.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try uninstalling the drivers but it still won't detect the network card. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network card (and I cleaned the port for good measure).
I've only been using Windows computers for a year, so bear with me if there's stuff I don't know. Thanks in advance. I can try to get a full list of what was installed later tonight, but all of it that I can find has been uninstalled at this point.
Note: I did not flash the bios when I installed, which I have now heard is a bad idea, apparently. l:

  • Satellite C875 : Windows reverting changes after update to Windows 8.1

For days now with no success, I have been trying to update from Windows 8 (64 bits) to Windows 8.1 a Satellite C875-153 (PSCBCE-03H002FR)
I am opening a new thread as none of the available threads on this forum have helped me nor my researched on the web.
*1st error* - which I was able to "sort of" figure out is:
    -> *Windows 8.1 update fails with error message 0xC1900101 - 0x30018*
I have followed every steps, in the proper order, of this Toshiba guide, but it didn't help fixing the error:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/
I then followed recommendation from this thread and was "temporaly" able to update OS to Win 8.1:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=296594
The step that worked for me was to remove network cable while installing windows 8.1 as suggested by user "RandyRoberts".
    *2nd error:*
*-> Windows 8.1 hangs and system tried to revert changes back to Windows 8*
By unplugging the network cable, I was able to complete the update of Windows 8.1 and run it temporaly.
As soon as I replug the network cable and reconnect to the web, the computer hangs and restarts.
I suppose Windows 8.1 is trying to check the licence status and then refuse to activate it.
Windows ends up trying to revert changes and go back to Windows 8.
It hangs at restart and refuses to reload previous OS (Windows 8), leaving me on a screen with couple options. At this point I can only recover the factory image to be able to restart the system.
These steps have been performed on a freshly reinstalled OS with no additionnal softwares.
All updates and steps have been followed and recheck several times. I am runnning last BIOS available.
I have already saved all my data and burned the recovery disks .
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

    Hi GROM
I guess you found and read also this thread:

  • X240 Windows 8 RapidBoot HDD Accelerator and update to Windows 8.1

    Hi All,
Just bought an x240 (20AL008JUS) and I am having significant problems getting this system to update. This system comes with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
Why is RapidBoot HDD Accelerator on this system? From everything I read there is no such thing as RapidBoot by Lenovo for Windows 8. This looks to be a Windows 7 only utility.
Is there some secret sequence necessary to get this system updated to Windows 8.1? I have tried many sequences so far each followed by a full Windows restore (full format, not just refresh), this is the latest:
(BIOS already updated on earlier attempt.)
    1. Remove Pokki Start Menu and App Store
    2. Remove RapidBoot HDD Accelerator
    3. Remove Norton and run from the internet "Norton Removal Tool"
    4. Shutdown and Power on
    5. Enable Windows Defender, update Windows Defender
    6. Run Lenovo System Updates - update all except SharIt and Password Manager
    7. Shutdown and Power on
    8. Allow Windows to install updates via "Update and Restart"
    9. Run Windows 8.1 upgrade from Microsoft App Store
Typically the system dies somewhere in this group of steps. I don't know why. I have finally received restore CDs, although they are marked as for 20AJ systems (x240s), and I'm not sure why. It looks like the restore has finally completed. Before I continue trying to update, can anyone point out anything better that should be done?
Also, anyone know the difference between running restore from CDs vs using Windows' restore functionality?
    Thanks,
    Nachum

    Hi,
Firstly I don't know how this is going to work on new machine because the Windows 8 lisence would NOT work at all.

  • Serious flaw in updater for windows on iPod Photo (plug icon)

When I ran the new updater (on windows) it says very briefly that I have to plug the ipod into the power to complete the firmware. I didn't see this message the first time so I thought I had to reset my iPod.
Result: it won't start or reset anymore !!
I had to send my iPod to repair and the erased the iPod and returned it to me. With the return I got a instruction, which explains about how to run the updater on windows, but nothing on plugging it in the wall to update !!
So if I had missed the brief message of the updater I could have the same problem. This time I kept it connected for a couple of minutes and the iPod resetted and now I'm back to business.
I think apple should fix this serious flaw in the updater and in the documentation !!!!

It is a mailing in dutch and on paper (N073-0789 Rev. E).
    It says:
    <quote>
Step 4: Connect your iPod. After a few second the button "recover"will be active. Click on "recover". iPod Updater formats your iPod for Windows XP or 2000.
Step 5: Close iPod Updater after the recoverprocess is done.
    </quote>
Between 4 and 5 it should say something about the flashing with the power plug I think.
More important, I think the updater should keep the message in display while the iPod is still connected !
This saves a lot of useless repairs I think (and really missing your iPod for a week )!

  • X301 post BIOS / Model Number update System Time problems

    Dear community,
I recently updated my BIOS using the thinkvantage flash BIOS utility for no reason other than it appeared on the update utility. I also updated the model number, once again for no real reason other than update pleasure. Now, everything works perfectly fine on the system, and I have no problems EXCEPT:
I use New York Times Adobe Air product called "Times Reader". Since the update, when I try to log into the Times Reader I get an error that states "Authentication Error. Check that your system time is set correctly." In the pre-boot set up screen the time seems to be set right, and in the windows utility the time is set correctly. So my questions is,
after a BIOS flash / Model # update, does the system time function need some re-boot / update?
    Thanks!

Well I still dunno what the problem was.  It seemed as if the system would have to be running for a day or two before it would start to speed up, as if it was actually gaining a few milliseconds cumulatively every second...
Anyway, through other testing (OC & such) I flashed to 1.5B5 and it is running pretty good, and seems to have fixed the time problem.
On a side note, 1.5B5 is the first BIOS that actually makes Cool 'N Quiet work (to underclock to 1GHz at idle & dynamically OC when needed).
If anyone has experienced this time issue, please post findings!  For now, it's fixed for me, so I'm not going to worry about it

    Thanks!

This is the way I fixed it when I got this issue. This may need a little bit of technical know how. If you have a graphics card in your computer, you must change anything that is plugged into your motherboard (this can usually be identified as the one that
is near all of the usb ports on the backside of your case), into your graphics card, easily identified as a few display ports further away from the backside USB ports. If you don't have any plugged in their in the first place, don't fret! Shut down and enter
BIOS upon boot up, go to your Display option, and disable Integrated Graphics, this disables the graphics drivers on your CPU, this will only work if you have a graphics card. Once you do that, exit by saving. Then boot up, go to settings, and update and recovery,
and install and enjoy. This should work.

  • Internet switch not working after update to Windows 10 64bit

Today i updated my Windows 7 laptop to the Windows 10 Home 64bit OS. Everything seems to work fine, except the WIFI. Windows does find my adapter, but won't wake it up. My built-in wifi button (f12) has got a red light on it, even when I pressed it. I tried the Windows 8 wireless button driver, but i didn't solve my problem. With that driver installed the button switches between airplanemode on/off. Not between WIFI. Also in the WIFi settings wifi turn off. When I try to switch it on, it directly turns back to "off". Wired internet works flawless. I gues it's an driver issue, so i was wondering if there is an driver upcomming? Or is there another solution to switch it on.Please help me. It's very annoying.

I read soms other forums and i came tot an solution:
    1. Instal Windows 8 wireless button driver
    2. Preform a hard reset
    3. Reboot system
    4. Boot tot BIOS, load the defaults
    5. The wifi buttons works.

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I understand that you are having an issue with your Wi-Fi on your HP Envy M6-1125dx.  I did some research and found a great document for your called HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8). This document will help you troubleshoot the Wi-Fi issue.  Have you received any error messages? If you are receiving any of these errors:Internet Explorer cannot display the Web page.Work Offline: No connection to the Internet is currently available. Not connected: You are currently not connected to any networks. Here is another document called HP PCs - Resolving Broadband Internet connection problems (Windows 8).  Have you tried to Restore the BIOS? Have you uninstalled the driver in the Device Manager? If not, please do the following: 1. Uninstall the driver in Device Manager2. Restart the Notebook3. Reinstall the driver. You can use either the HP Driver's page for your specific Notebook, or you can use the HP Support Assistant.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. Have you tried to directly connect to the Modem/Router?  Please follow the troubleshooting steps and re-post with the results and information required from the questions above.  Thanks!

    Hi,
How about your network problem recently? if problem persists, you can follow the steps below to collect the scenario tracing and the WLAN logs.
    1) Enable RAS Tracing on the client.
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
C:\> netsh ras set tracing * enabled
    2) On the client enable the following log as well:
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
    C:\> netsh trace start scenario=netconnection capture=yes tracefile=c:\net.etl
    3) Now, turn off Wireless adapter on the client and Turn it back ON for making it to authenticate. Once it fails to connect to the Wireless network, proceed to the next step.
    4) Disable RAS Tracing on the client.
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
C:\> netsh ras set tracing * disabled
    5) On the client disable the following log as well:
    Over an Administrative command prompt.
    C:\> netsh trace stop
    6) Please provide the following files:
    From the Client:
    a) ZIP folder of C:\Windows\Tracing
    b) C:\Net.etl and C:\Net.cab
