  • HP Paviliion HDX9300 BIOS Failure

    Hi there,
    I have HP Pavilion HDX9300.
I downloaded the latest BIOS from HP's website and tried installing it in an attempt to fix a problem where the battery was not charging when AC was plugged in. The BIOS update hung and the computer turned off either following the insallation process or due to loose connection of the AC cable (and battery being at 0%).
When I tried to turn it back on the screen remained black and the computer beeped 3 times indicating BIOS failure.
I could not initiate the BIOS recovery because I have a problem with the power button not working (I use quick play button instead).
So I took the laptop to a repair shop. They fixed the power button, but failed to initiate BIOS recovery by pressing Windows+B buttons and pressing the power button - the screen remained black and nothing happened.
They suggested BIOS hardware update, but where/how can this be done?
How can I restore my computer back to a working condition?
I do not want to lose this expensive and quality product because of a failed BIOS update.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bruce

Try the method here, substituting your BIOS file of course:

  • Z68A - GD65 (G3) - Bios Failure

    Hi
So I've been reading alot on these forums lately about bios updates. The reason being i bought myself a gtx 760 gpu. And I soon realized after it was shipped to me that it would not work on the bios i have (V23.1), and sure enough when i tried it, it wouldnt work.
Therefore i decided to try my first bios update.
So i decided to do the moderator-recommended DOS usb flash. I installed the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool and downloaded the E7681IMS.P80 (as it was the last official one) from here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163866.msg1213416#msg1213416.
I then proceeded to make my USB stick "DOS-acceptable" and put the files on the stick via the flashing tool and followed the user guide.
I then got into the bios boot setup and ran MemTest86+ (i have never tampered with the vram or had any faults for 2 years, so i ran it for a couple of passes with no errors and exited).
The computer then rebooted and i started the bios update, but it said it failed and tried to go back to the previous version, but from what i could tell it said that failed too. I slightly paniced and thought it would be bricked, but at the end it said the flash was succesful.
So somehow it reverted back to the version i already had, and it runs fine.
In my panic i didnt see what the failure was about (or if there even was a reason), but my question is; is there something i missed?
Is there a failsafe or some security measure in the click bios that im not aware of?
Or should i try another version?
Also i read about changing the bios chip for a newer one, but i think they are soldered on, is that right?

    hi
i tried using this forum tool - but i gave up.
    i used windows 8 x64
in the end, i booted into the BIOS and updated using the application from the motherboard.
and seems to have worked correctly.
    i am using a R9 290x
    good luck

  • Thinkstation E32 BIOS not displaying...

Hey everyone, first time posting here.
I have a Thinkstation E32 that I am working on. I am using the PCI express Nvidio Quadro card as my graphics display. I am using the DVI port to display the graphics. But for some reason, I can't get the BIOS or Lenovo splash screen to show up when a monitor is connected to the DVI port, but it does boot into Windows ok. The BIOS/splash screen does show up when there's a monitor in the displayport connected. I updated the BIOS and made no difference. I checked the options and there doesn't appear to be an option to set what port on the video card to use as the primary.
The machine is still under warranty. I don't know if I want to replace the video card, because after all it does boot into Windows ok.
If anyone could provide any ideas or tips, that would be appreciated! Thanks!
    Jay

What processor do you have installed in your E32?  My first thought here is that the discrete card might not be seen as the primary video device by BIOS.
When you say it does boot into windows, I'm assuming you mean that once the system moves past the Lenovo splash screen early in POST, you are eventually able to get a graphics sync and the attached monitor works OK and the system can used normally?
My other thought is that I've seen scenarios in the past where some displays are slow to sync, and by the time they do the system has already moved past the Lenovo splash screen and started loading the OS.  You might be able to do a quick test to see if this is the issue by watching the keyboard light during POST instead of the display.  As soon as you see the numlock LED turn on on the keyboard, try hitting F1 several times until your display comes active.  If you're sitting at the BIOS setup screen when the display decides to finally sync, then that's probably your issue.

  • Non-overclocking bios failure

My windows drive had given me one to many problems so I decided it was time to blow it away and do a fresh load.  After I started the install I found that the entire system was running very slowly.  I stopped the Windows install and brought up Xandros.  I found that it, too, was running extremely slowly.  Just for the heck of it I tried booting Puppy to see if it ran any faster...still very slow.  I turned the system off, started it back up and went into the bios setting to see if anything had changed.  At this point I don't recall changing anything...but figure I had to have done something.  (Usually I write things down, but I don't have any notes.)  I turned the system back on and got absolutely nothing. The power supply came on, all fans came on and the test lights came on.  I checked the test lights, 1 & 2 red, 3 & 4 green.  After turning it on and off a couple of times -- with nothing changing -- I went to the board and used the jumper (changed jumper from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3) to clear the bios.  That didn't work, so I removed the bios battery for a couple of hours AND used the jumper.  Still no results.  Next I tried removing the power cord, flipping the front switch on and off half a dozen times, then plugging the system in and starting it up while I held the 'insert' key down.  No luck.  Then I tried using 'reset' while holding the 'insert' key down.  After everything else, tried running Puppy again...the light on the DVD shows that it recognizes that the disk is there but I'm still getting nothing on the monitor which sort of squares with the trouble light configuration.  I can't even boot up the system using a DOS boot disk that works on both my other computers.
At this point I am at a total loss.  I'd try flashing the bios but I can't get anything on the monitor to even give me an indication of what is going on.  All I have is this bright blue shield that asks if my video cable is connected.  Without some sort of connection to the monitor I don't think that it is wise to, for the first time, try flashing the bios.
Since the system was running correctly until I decided to re-install Win-XP I find it difficult to believe that I have had a hardware failure.  Not totally impossible, just improbably.  The system has been working as described for over 6 months.  Since I was in the bios I undoubtably screwed something up there.  I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or assistance...don't bother mentioning my stupidity in not keeping note.  Nothing you can say will be worse than what I have already said.
    Thanks in advance,

If you removed at all IDE drives connections, then only is left redoing CPU seating after cleaning and regreasing it.( Only a drop on CPU die. If you want to give Clear CMOS a last try, do what both things you have done but as same time: Disconnect P.Su. + push case start button, + move jumper to clear pos. + remove battery. Wait a min. or so and reverse all done. Suppose when you changed jumper pos. before, you returned it to retain data pos. before starting P.C. again.  About P.Su.: how much MAX AMPS does it give to 3.3, 5 and 12v. rails ?

  • No memory count - no bios detail display??

Just installed a new Neo2-PLS board.  On power up, after the graphics card info, there is no display of any memory count (have a Cosair 512MB in channel A). Also, no BIOS details at all...just goes into the MSI display screen after a short while (1-2 mins) and then a list of Safe mode/boot normally/last good config.... came up & then restart again.
    Anyone encounter that?

I think you merely need to turn off the boot logo. If I understand what you're describing, all you need to do is hit delete as soon as the MSI screen comes up. This will get you into the BIOS; there's an option in there to turn the splash screen off.

  • Z77MA-G45 Bios Failure

I tried to update my bios to 7759v16 using the MSIHQ Tool 1.19R9 and failed with a message about the bios being in write only mode. I was able to enter the old bios and tried to enable write mode but could not find such a setting - I was stymied by the many options in  the EFI format and may have missed it. Then I realized that I might need a newer version of the MSIHQ Tool and subsequently found and setup version 1.24h on a usb flash drive.
But now my problem is that I cannot get into the bios or boot the flash drive at all. What I have done many times is - disconnect the power, remove the battery, short the JBAT1 jumper and wait several minutes. After  this procedure is reversed the board then boots to a simple screen (see attachment) that lists the Motherboard bios version , amount and type of memory, processor type and detected drives. It is interesting that the mouse or MSIHQ usb flash drive is not listed even though the led on the drive is lit.
This screen says that the bios has been set to its default values. Hitting either F1 or F2 as instructed  will trigger a reset and send the power supply and motherboard into a continuous "power-up for a moment-then shut off cycle" with nothing displayed on the monitor. This cycling will continue indefinitely.
I'm not sure what else to do.  Any ideas?

  • Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965 - Are there any newer BIOS Failure updates? Last update was 2011

    I have a Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965 and got the BSOD. I have searched the forums and found a post;
                  BIOS Update Failure Satellite L505D-S5965
I tried creating a "Boot CD-ROM Installation Method   Create CD-ROM Now but the webpage is no longer there.
I am having the exact same problem as the above post. The keyboard is not functional once you get past the Toshiba screen.
    I followed the following instructions:
‎04-07-2011 06:57 PM - Reflash for INSYDE BIOS.
Using a separate computer if necessary perform the following:
    1) Download your notebook model's BIOS "*.exe" file from the Support section. Mine was: slm0v150.exe
    2) Extract the files from the "*.exe" file.
    3) Locate the file that ends with ".fd", this is your actual BIOS file.
*(for different brand BIOS's the file may have a different extension such as .rom or .bin)
    4) Rename your BIOS file to: "BIOS.fd" without the quotations.
    5) Format a USB Flash Drive to (FAT or FAT32) file system.
    6) Copy your newly named "BIOS.fd" file to the root directory of the Flash Drive. (Not inside any folders)
On the corrupt computer perform the following:
    7) Remove the Battery, AC Adapter, and Hard Drive.
    8) Plug the Flash Drive with your "BIOS.fd" file on it into any USB port.
    9) While holding the Fn and F key on your keyboard:
      a) Plug the AC adapter into your computer.
      b) Hold the Power button until the computer turns on.
      c) Release the Power button and both keys once you hear the fan turn on.
    10) Observe your Flash Drive's LED's blinking, wait until your computer turns off and remove the Flash Drive.
    11) Replace Battery and Hard Drive.
    12) You're computer should be all set!
I can punch F2 to enter BIOS or F12 to enter Boot Manager, but the system doesn't respond to keyboard in either.
I attempted to flash BIOS off a USB as described in the above mentioned post, and it never worked. My flash drive lights up and then goes off. The BIOS version is the most current available according to Toshiba, 1.5
When I removed the HD and don't have a Recory disc in the DVD drive, I get:
"PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable
    hPXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
No Bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
This is the same with the BIOS flash drive or without."
I have searched for any follow ups beyond the above post and can't find any. I appreciate any help, thank you in advance.

  • BIOS Failure. Not able to restore

    Hello HP support team,
My friend's comuter's BIOS seems to be dead. When I turn it on the CapsLock light blinks for 2 times and nothing happens on my screen. I tried to remove battery and power cable for some minutes, but nothing changed. I also removed the CMOS battery and replaced it's RAM, but still got the same problem.
I've searched for solutions on everywhere, and most of the times I finally get stuck on this page. The combination of WIN+B seems to have no effect, something that makes sense as I'm almost sure they've deleted the HP_TOOLS partition.
So, here is where I need your help. In the page mentioned above, it's said that "a USB key with an HP_TOOLS volume can be used as an alternative". I really have searched everywhere, but I can't find how to create this USB drive. I also have no idea where to find an extracted version of BIOS so I could restore from that. The only BIOS That I get from the driver's page is one ".exe" which I have to run it on that computer, which is impossible.
One last thing to mention is that I've downloaded the "sp61632" which gives me the "HP UEFI Support Environment Setup". When I try to install it on "USB Flash Drive" it gives me an error, but finally I've installed it locally on my computer, and then transfered its files on a USB Drive.
I renamed that drive to "HP_TOOLS", and the only folders in there are "Hewlett-Packard" > "SystemDiags", and in there can be found 8 items:
    CryptRSA.efi
    CryptRSA32.efi
    SystemDiags.efi
    SystemDiags32.efi
    SystemDiags.s09
    SystemDiags.sig
    SystemDiags32.s09
    SystemDiags32.sig
Just mentioning it, cause the total size is 2.5MB, and I can't see if thishas to do anything with the BIOS restore.
So, to sum up, I need:
    BIOS recovery files
a way to create USB drive with HP_TOOLS
any other idea or suggestion would be very welcome
    Tried, but didn't work:
    restart
    remove HDD
    remove CMOS battery
    replace RAMs
    WIN+B combination
WIN+B combination, with the flash drive mentioned above connected
The computer is: HP Pavilion DV6-2117ev (drivers page is here)
    Serial number: (Personal information removed)
    Product number: WB331EA#B1A
Operating system: Probably Windows 7 (I don't think this has any importance right now)
Sorry for the long post, tried to be as detailed as possible.
Thanks in advance for your support.

Download the latest version of the HP PC UEFI Diagnostics V.5.6.1 from the following page to your PC. It  is SP69045.exe
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/pps/pl_...
You will be installing it to a usb flashdrive of at least 4 GB. Prepare a USB flashdrive by plugging it into a port and formatting it within Windows.  When you see the following window, select USB flash drive. When you are informed that the HP_Tools directory is not present on the USB and asked for permission to create it, click on OK. I created a usb HP_Tools flashdrive on my self-built PC with an ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard so I know this works.  Once you have this done you can copy the BIOS files to the root of your newly created HP_Tools usb flashdrive. Now you can plug it into a usb port on your friend's notebook and boot to the PC Diagnostics. You can use the firmware management option to update the BIOS of his notebook.

  • BIOS failure at startup K7N2G-ILSR

I have just put together a new machine with a K7N2G-ILSR motherboard, an Athlon 2500+ processor, and an IDE disc, not much more than that. At startup, I get the first MSI screen, but when the BIOS screen is then shown, it disappears after about half a second. Instead I get a new screen "Scanning IDE drives", which after about a second gives the message: "No drive attached to Fast Trak controller, The BIOS is not installed".
I cleared the CMOS, and then I actually got the BIOS screen (because it said CMOD CRC error), but the next time I restarted the machine I was back with the same problem as before.
It is possible to enter BIOS setup if I press delete at exactly the right time when the BIOS screen flicker, but I have not find any configuration that would help. Further, after I cleared the CMOS, now my processor is not recognized in detail, it just says AMD Athlon. Before I did that, it actually said Athlon 2500+, how do I make it identify it exectly?
I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thanks!

Well, the manual does not say a word about the "fast trak controller" is, and it is not clear what kind of drives that are referred to in that error message. Is this only about Serial ATA drives, or what?
What I have now figured out is that the POST screen (where it is said that DEL will take you to bios) will never appear if the full start MSI screen is enabled, which it is by default. The manual does not say a single word about this, but it refers to the POST screen as the first screen, where one can invoke the bios setup.

  • P67A-GD65 Primary BIOS Failure

    Hello there.
I was playing with memory timings, and after few harmless boot hang ups I'm here...
Thanks to blue flashing LED I know my primary BIOS has failed, however, I cant repair it using secondary BIOS ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=145084.0;attach=7527 ). EFI just hangs up when I try to save any settings.
I did clear CMOS already - no effect.

I can't really, I am in michigan right now and he is in ohio, but one really odd thing is, the heatsink (TOP Tech Cooler) is loose in the top (it freely moves up about one inch) and the scrambling goes away if I pinch the top and bottom heatsink plates together, so I am wondering if this is just a short or loose memory / GPU?

  • MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) Bios failure?

    Hello everyone,
I am in a bit of trouble, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I'd like to say that I've only flashed mobos a few times in the past but never had any problems until now so I'm kinda unsure with what to do.
I was getting some BSOD now and then while playing games and decided to update the BIOS etc to see if that would help fix it.  Well, I flashed from the 1.A bios (2011-03-30) to the latest one from the BIOS menu.  It got to about 98% then restarted and now it just BSOD's over and over, I'm lucky if I can get into Windows, the BSOD's are usually all sorts of different things.  I have tried flashing back to the previous BIOS but no difference - I really hope I haven't killed the board.  I've tried clearing the CMOS - made no difference.  Tried to boot from optical to reinstall Windows but it crashes before I can even get into setup . . . any ideas?
    System specs: MSI P67A-GD53, i5-2500k, Corsair XMS3 DDR3 4GBx2, GTX 470, C300 SSD, Corsair 750W PSU
    Thanks

but I really don't think it's the SSD, that's always been really good
Well, what if it is the SSD after all?  You believe or hope that it is not that, but how do you know?

That does not sound "really good" to be honest...
Test a regular hard drive.  Do you get BSODs with that, too?
