BIOS flash update to W510 = dead laptop

Hi ...
   I just did an update to the BIOS flash that is given in the updates section of w510 ( windows utility ) upon sucessful update it asked for restart. Nothing happens just black screen. If I press 'Power ON" then it checks the capslock and some other lights but nothing on the screen, then it restarts itself a coupleof times then the thrid time it just stay on powered... CPU fan is running like crazy.
Brand new laptop... got it yesterday... was installing win7 ultimate and then installed drivers from lenovo site and on BIOS flash update "BOOM"
Is there anything I can do now to make it run again, or do I have to go and give it to the tech support guys ??

the worst part : I have a 160GB intel ssd that I bought to use with the new w510 is sitting idle on my desk.

I can't believe that I am going through this.. I am like a handycapped these days.
I ordered this laptop three months ago when it was introduced, by the time I ordered it went out of stock... I had to  wait three whole months to get the laptop. I didn't even use it.

    The computer has been flakey on startup recently, so I want to update the BIOS. 
    I run the Thinkpad BIOS Flash Update Utility on my Thinkpad Yoga, it returns an error saying "failed to read the BOS".

    I think the gpu has failed again, if the bios was dead you would get no beeps, it is the bios that generates the hardware failure beeps.
    Home brew reflows generally do not last too long or can cause more damage.
    The reason the gpu comes loose on most of that vintage was due to 2 problems
    1. Overheating
    2. Poor quality solder used when the gpu and other motherboard components were flowed at the factory.
    Reflowing it does not always work because of the quality of the ball solder they used, also you only get one reflow attempt, doing more than one weakens the original solder even more. Most likely the seller reflowed it shortly before selling it to you.
    Proper repair is what is called a reball (solder replacement) of the gpu, not may repair facilities have the equipment to performed this, and is usually expensive procedure depending on the motherboard design.

    I have just got my Satellite today and was updating the Toshiba drivers and tried to install a new bios update. I ran the program and the laptop restarted and has gone to a blank screen, power light on, and nothing. This was 10 min ago and stills no change. What should I do? It said not to turn it off.

    Just to let you all know. I tried to turn the laptop off at the power button and no luck. So I tuck the battery out and unhooked the power to shut it down. Powered up and started in safe mode ok. What is it with flash updating had it brick a router and a net book

    You Tube said I needed latest Adobe Flash Player, so uninstalled old version and reinstalled latest version 11.6.602.171 on PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS.  My system says it's there, but it still won't work on You Tube - still get same message saying Ineed latest version.
    Had same message on my Laptop running Windows 7 and it updated and works fine.  I use Internet Explorer 9.
    Detailed Problem Description: Problem with downloading latest Adobe Flash update and viewing YouTube.  On PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS, You Tube home page red banner at top said I needed to install latest Adobe Flash Player but even after installing, it does not work and will not play most videos in browser and shows black screen with message still asking to download latest version.  Seems to be rather random as to which videos it will play and which ones it won't, although there may be some common link (see examples below).  I thought it might have been HTML5 problem but I have successfully played HTML5 and Non-HTML videos through Adobe test site (Adobe Flash Player Help/Video Playback Issues) as well as Stage Videos. (Note: Had same You Tube messages when viewing on Laptop running Windows 7 but that updated without problem.)
    Ran Adobe Uninstall. Closed all other programs before reinstalling direct from Adobe (rather than You Tube link). No change.

    I have updated graphics drivers for NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT- although had to do manually as NVIDIA auto system scan said "could not detect your GPU". Noted they said Windows Vista supports up to Direct X 10, but my system is running Direct X 11.  Had optional update message for "nVidia Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM 1.2, other Hardware NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT" on both PC & laptop.  Laptop downloaded fine. Tried to download on PC but was not successful. Error Code 80070103, possibly because system had already been updated? Current driver version 9.18.13.1407 - "Windows has determined that your current driver software is up to date".
    Running Norton 360 but it did not block or indicate any problems with Flash Player download.

    Thanks for reply.  I ran the recommened Adobe uninstall program so assumed it deleted whatever it should have, before installing new version.  When it didn't work I followed instructions in Flash Player help page (screen shot below) which said to delete the Roaming App Data/Macromedia/Flash folder and Roaming App Data/Adobe/Flash folder, which I did. 
    Below are screen shots of C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash files as they currently stand.  I have a fuzzy recollection that it was deleted at some point because I think I went searching for it during one troubleshooting session and it couldn't be found (but maybe I'm geting confused with the App Date folders?).  Anyway I presume these current files are all post-reinstallation as the dates are all 5 or 6 March (did them before and after midnight).  I'm on Australian time - not sure where you are. However, notice install.log date is 21/05/2010 and Flash Player Trust sub-folder is dated 6/09/2008.
    When I right click on the screen of both videos that will and won't play, I just get a list of options starting at "Copy video URL" down to "About HTML5".   So not sure what you mean when you say "For the videos that do play, when you right click on them what version of Flash Player is reported at the bottom of the context menu?" as I can't see any info like this.  Do I click somewhere else?
    If you are able to get the info you are after yourself, two videos that will work are:

    Also, with hardware acceleration enabling or disabling, the only place I can find to do this is through the Adobe Flash Help page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html#main_2__Disable_Ac tiveX_Filtering__if_you_are_using_Internet_Explorer_9_
    and right clicking on the Flash Player info box, going into Settings and checking or unchecking the Enable box.  Do you know if there is another setting in my actual computer where I can do this and or there's some other setting I need to change?  There doesn't seem to be anything similar when I go through Conrol Panel - Flash Player.
    5. Delete all Flash Player browsing data
      a.. Click Start > Control Panel.
      b.. Double-click Flash Player.
      c.. In the Flash Player Setting Manager, click Advanced.
      d.. Under Browsing Data and Settings, click Delete All.
    6. Remove Flash Player cache
      a.. On your computer, select Start > Run. (On Windows 7, click Start and type in Search Programs and Files.)
      b.. Type %appdata%\Adobe and click OK.
      c.. Delete the Flash Player folder.
      d.. Repeat step 1 and type %appdata%\Macromedia.
      e.. Delete the Flash Player folder.

    Ok for starters I have the K9A2 CF motherboard,4GB of ram,My last Bios was 1.8.
    I was flashing to 1.9 using the bios flash tool and a usb 1GB stick.The Bios flash went without errors and I rebooted.After this I booted back up.It gets to the 512Mb on the screen then poof,the system reboots automatically and keeps doing so thereafter unless I shut the PC off.How can I restore my Bios or fix this issue.This is not good as I  cant even get to the post screen before it reboots to change anything.

  • Laptop won't boot up after HP Support Assistant BIOS Flash update.

    Updated my bios as recommended by the hp support assistant, now the lap top will not boot up. The fan runs for about 3-5 seconds then stop, power light on and Caps Lock LED flashes. I have an HP 2000-2a28DX running  Win 7 Ultimate.

  • Neo2 bios flash to 1.9 = dead nvidia lan

    Hi
    I've flashed my K8N Neo2 Nforce3 Platinum with the latest 1.9 bios and now my nvidia lan is dead. It is failing to find an ip address. The Realtek lan is working fine. I've tried flashing back to 1.5 which was working before but the nvidia lan is still dead. Please can anyone help me on this issue.

  • KT4AV MSI-6712 Dead after BIOS Flash to support XP3000 CPU (Photos)

    Hello, I'm a 15-year veteran system administrator and hardware hacker and this is the first time I have ever had what appears to be a truly DEAD mobo killed after a BIOS flash!   
    Of course I read all the stickies and spent 2 hours research & homework first, before posting here.  I tried everything to revive this mobo. 
    Here's what happened:
    MSI-6712 KT4AV system with onboard Audio and Ethernet, Athlon 2800+ CPU, 1GB (2 x 512MB PC2700 DDR) RAM.  300W PSU.  It's been running great for years with never an issue.  I just got a Athlon 3000+ CPU I wanted to upgrade, but before I did I decided I had better upgrade the BIOS to support this newer CPU, since the BIOS Version History says the later revisions handle the 3000 CPU.
    I upgraded the BIOS from DOS Boot via a Bootable USB and it Verified successfully.  Then I rebooted and it said something like Invalid CMOS settings, so I entered BIOS Setup to view my new BIOS.  I noticed new features like Network Boot ability, so the new BIOS seemed to be a success.  (Note this was a soft-reboot, not a hard power-off reboot).  I set my normal settings and saved to reboot and the system was DEAD from that point on!  No beeps, monitor stays black.  CPU fan does run but that's it.
    Here is what I have:

    Things I have tried:
    Removing all RAM and vacuuming dust, reseating 1 stick nearest the CPU.  (This shouldnt be necessary since I have not removed the ram or disturbed it, but I tried anyway since D-Bracket LED indicates a Memory error.)
    Trying a different brand PC2700 DDR RAM stick.
    Removing CMOS battery for 10 minutes.
    Jumpering Clear CMOS a dozen times.  Leaving Clear CMOS jumper overnight (desperate!). 
    Disconnected all devices from mobo, all HDs, even the AGP video card.
    Unfortunately, since the mobo fails so early, it never beeps or initializes the keyboard, so safe-mode INS or CTRL-HOME don't work... so I can't reload my old BIOS backup I carefully saved before I flashed the new one.
    As you can see the BIOS chip is soldered directly to the mobo.... so am I 100% dead here?  Is there anything I can do?
    I am 100% positive I did this BIOS update correctly and there is no reason it should have killed the mobo!

    Well you told that you have created BIOS backup before update the BIOS, ==> "so I can't reload my old BIOS backup I carefully saved before I flashed the new one."

  • Flash update appears to have bricked my laptop; please don't laugh

    I'm at a loss here.
    So last night I was watching Netflix and YouTube, and the next thing I knew, Norton NIS started popping up multiple "Rootkit blocked" warnings, and then YouTube stopped working. It seemed like the Flash player malfunctioned. It would show an empty black box where the video is, and when I would right-click on it, it would just say "movie not loaded" in the context menu.
    After a few minutes of YouTube not working at all, I got a dialogue box to install a Flash update, which usually happens at boot. Made sense, so I clicked on it, but it didn't fix anything. Norton popped up a few more identical "Rootkit blocked" messages, and then popped up a message that "Restart is required to continue fixing your computer."
    I did backup my most important info, so I'm not completely stupid, but just as I suspected, once I hit the reboot, the computer bricked itself. It refuses to boot into Windows. I get an error message, then a black dialogue screen at BIOS or POST or whatever you call it that asks "Start Windows normally" or "repair mode." Starting normally just loops back to the same error dialogue, and repair mode just asks for boot disks, which I cannot find at the moment.
    Now, if that were the only problem, that's one thing, but here's the real problem:
    That whole process with Flash broken on YouTube and then Flash trying to update and Norton NIS mistaking the Flash update for a rootkit...it's happening on my second computer now. I'm not going to run a Flash update, and I'm not anxious to even reboot the computer anymore, until I can figure out what just happened here.
    So can anyone help me? What might be going on?

    Well, thank you for all the responses; it's all turned out well enough. It seems that it was indeed a virus masquerading as a Flash update, and I'm inclined to think it happened because I skipped months and months of Windows Updates.
    I'd been using a cloned SSD, so I dropped my old hard drive back in and went from there, installing all the Windows Updates and antivirus updates. I used a separate computer to scan the infected SSD over a USB adapter, and it turned up a single "trogan.gen" virus. Once it was cleaned up, I pulled off all my new files onto a separate hard drive and wiped the SSD, and then used it to clone the hard drive again. Back in business.
    I suppose I could have tried to rescue the SSD without having to pull everything, but it was so much easier just to clone the hard drive again, since I didn't have any new paid software.

    I installed Ubuntu Linux in my Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop and all was fine until the latest updates came in. I inquired about the problem and I was told that I needed the newer version of bios. My laptop uses Pheonix WinPhlash bios and I cannot make it work through Ubuntu. Iwould appreciate any help that anyone might be able to give me. The keyboard does not work correctly and the person at Ubuntu assured me that it was the bios causing the problem.     I had no problems with Ubuntu version 13. I started having problems with my keyboard after it upgraded to 14.04. I filed a bug / problem report with Ubuntu and I was told it was my out dated bios version 3.50. I went through hell trying to update it to bios version 3.60 but after many frustrating hours I finally ended up puting in Windows 2000 and updating WinPhlash through it. I had wiped my hard drive, reformatted it and it would no longer install Windows Vista. I can't figure that one out at all? After going through about two weeks of failure I finally got bios 3.60 installed. It did not change anything. The keyboard of the laptop worked just fine with Windows. When I put Ubuntu back it I had the same old ball game. I have to use a USB keyboard. I installed Ubuntu 15.04 (advice from my learned son) that produce no change either. Now, I had been going on the asumption that the fellow from Ubuntu knew what he was talking about since he assured me that it was a "buggy bios" version 3.50 causing the keyboard problem. I did a Google search only to find out that laptop keyboard problems are a very common thing with almost all versions of Ubuntu, especially version 14.04. I was told there is a Kernel 4.1 that may solve the problem but I do not understand Kernels very well and I fear I may mess things up and will have to start all over a again. I shall find out.

    When you start the tool a DOS box should open up to provide you with status messages and prompts.  Do not close that box unless you want to abort the preparation procedure!
    Please ensure that you connect the USB flash drive you wish to use before starting the Tool!
    NOTE: If you do not connect your USB storage device before starting the tool, or the tool doesn't detect it. You can still insert the drive letter, as the tool will continue as normal.
    The tool will first check, if an MSI mainboard is installed in your system and show you its model name and PCB Version in a message box. Click >OK< to continue to choose the tool's preparation method that you want to use to prepare your USB Flash Drive.
    3. Choosing a Preparation Method
    If your MSI Retail Board is properly detected and you have pressed the >OK< button in the message box, an option box will pop up that allows you to choose between three different operating modes.  The options you can choose from are more or less self-explanatory, however, read the detailed description if you are unsure how to proceed at this point:
    3.1. Method 1: Processing a BIOS Archive Directly (ZIP/RAR)
    Official MSI BIOS-Updates that can be downloaded from the product site of your board model do usually come as .ZIP or .RAR archives that contain the actual BIOS File and the corresponding AWARD or AMI flashing utility (depending on the BIOS Type of your board).  If you have downloaded such an archive, you should choose the first method from the option box. 
    You do not need to extract the files from the BIOS archive.  The tool will ask you to point it to the archive you downloaded and automatically extract the BIOS File and the AMI or AWARD flashing utility and put it them on your USB Flash Drive.  You don't have to worry about anything else.  All you have to do is to remember where you saved the ZIP or RAR file you downloaded:
    3.2. Method 2: Processing a BIOS File Directly
    If you do not have a ZIP or RAR archive that already contains a BIOS File and the proper flashing utitility, but only the plain unpacked BIOS File, choose the second Method from the option box.  In most cases BETA BIOS Files supplied by MSI Support or shared here in the Forum do not come with the proper flashing utility.  If the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool is told to process a plain BIOS File, it will automatically check the type of BIOS File (AMI or AWARD) and then select the proper flashing utility that needs to be used.  All you need to do is point the tool to the BIOS-File that is supposed to be flashed:
    3.3. Method 3: SureHands Live Update
    "SureHands Live Update" is the third operation method you can choose from the option box.  It provides a much safer and more reliable alternative to MSI Live Update as the actual BIOS Flash is performed in a pure DOS environment as well.  If you decide to use this option, you do not to supply the tool with a BIOS-Archive or a BIOS-File.
    Not all MSI Retail Boards are currently supported.  With every update of the USB Flashing Tool more boards will be added.  At present, you can use the "SureHands" Live Update method with the following boards only (the list will be updated regularly):

    After selecting "SureHands" from the option box, the tool will automatically check for all available official BIOS-Versions for your mainboard.  It will also look for the latest available BETA BIOS Version for you board and save that information in a TXT-File on your Desktop:
    Note: The SureHands option will not provide you with the latest BETA BIOS, it will only provide the information.
    When the tool is done scanning for official BIOS releases for your board, it will give you the possibility to manually choose the BIOS Version you want to flash.  SureHands Live Update will not automatically select the latest version and use it for flashing, it will give you the chance of choosing between all available official BIOS releases that are available:
    Note that the "May not exist" comment that appears behind some versions does not mean that the BIOS does not exist.  If you know the latest BIOS for your board is e.g. v1.8, SureHands will retrieve it even though there may be such a comment.  That message is part of a prediction feature that tries to determine future BIOS Releases.  If a BIOS version that was predicted by the SureHands feature is not available yet, the tool will tell you if it cannot retrieve the files and ask you to select an earlier version.
    3.4 Geometry Change
    If the tool fails to make your USB storage device bootable then you will need to use this mode. It will make your drive bootable, select it:
    Select your drive then let the tool do it's business.
    Once the process is complete, run the tool again via method 1, 2 or 3, restart your computer and try booting from the USB storage device again.
    NOTE: This method will destroy ALL data on the USB storage device!
    NOTE: This method is available in v1.17 and beyond.
    4. Selecting the USB Flash Drive for preparation
    When you have chosen one of the three methods from the option list and pointed the tool at the corresponding archive, BIOS File or selected the desired BIOS Version from the list in case you chose to use SureHands Live Update, the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing Tool will prompt you to enter the drive letter of the USB Flash Drive you want to use for flashing:
    Note that certain drive letters are reserved and will therefore not be accepted by the tool (currently A:, B: and C:). If you are sure you have connected an USB Flash Drive to the system that works properly but it does not appear in the table that appears in the DOS box, enter the corresponding drive letter anyway and see if the tool accepts it.  This can happen in rare cases, but it is usually no problem.
    The tool will check the selected drive and will provide you with status messages.  If everything is okay, the message should look like this:
    The tool will attempt to make the device bootable and automatically write all files that are needed for flashing to the drive to prepare it for flashing.  If the procedure was successful, you will get the following message in the DOS box:
    5. BIOS-Settings, Booting & Flashing
    If the Tool has prepared your drive for booting & flashing, no BIOS flash attempt has been made yet. Only the preparation process. In order to initiate the flashing procedure, you have to restart your system and make it boot from the USB Flash drive. Before you move on to do that, enter the BIOS Setup and check a few options:
    5.1. BIOS Settings to Check
    Check USB-related Options in BIOS:
    - USB Controller
    - USB 2.0 Controller
    - USB Legacy Support
    - USB Storage Support
    - Boot from other devices
    - etc.
    Not all of these options may be found in BIOS and the precise name may vary as well.  Just make sure you checked for such options and that they are enabled (if present).
    Another option you should check for is "Boot Sector Protection".  If such an option is present in your BIOS, make sure it is disabled because it may make a BIOS Flash impossible.
    @all Overclockers: In case your system is currently overclocked, make sure you roll back to default clock and voltage settings before you attempt to start the flashing procedure. Otherwise you increase the risk of an unsuccesful flash, and you most probably don't want something like that to happen.
    5.2. Booting from USB Flash Drive
    To boot from your USB drive you can either change the boot sequence in BIOS accordingly or just press F11 during POST* to get access to the BIOS Boot Menu.  From here, you can select you drive directly without having to adjust the boot sequence in BIOS.  Note that your USB Flash Drive may be listed as a hard drive (if you choose that entry you will get another list to choose from).
    * Not all mainboards use F11, for the boot menu. If F11 fails for you, please consult your manual for the correct key.
    Note: If you have problems booting from your drive, look at the FAQ-Section of this guide and see if any of the tips resolve the issue.
    5.3. Flashing Procedure/Running MemTest86+
    As soon as the system boots from the drive, DOS will be loaded and you will be displayed with two options. One option will start MemTest86+, the other will begin the flashing procedure. If no choice is made, MemTest86+ will automatically start.
    The flashing procedure will automatically be initiated from there.  You will see status messages on the screen that will supply you with information and also prompt you for final confirmation for the actual BIOS-Flash.  A backup of you current BIOS will automatically be saved to a file on the drive (backup.bin) before the flashing actually starts.  You do not need to enter any commands in DOS.  All you have to do is acknowledge the information on the screen by pressing a key.
    The flash itself will only take a couple of seconds (20-30s at the most).  If the flashing is successfully completed, shutdown the system and clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.  Read the >>Clear CMOS Guide<< for further information. 
    After clearing CMOS you have completed the BIOS-Flash.

    So you can easy find what was your original BIOS & EC versions.
    Is it OEM one or not, and the exact original BIOS & EC versions.
    So you can roll back easy or if crossflashing were done to reflash to correct versions.
    Example question:[this board now use 4.xx bios, but don't have time to make a new images.]
    It's just example, do not mean that this BIOS used in the example is bad. But generally often can need to roll back to older version.

It means it doesnt support CPU over 95W, but my Phenpom II x545 has only 80W. I still cant update Bios to the 1.A version.
    So my third question is:

    Are you absolutely and entirely sure that what you see is "1.1" and not "1.10"?  Because v1.A0 is actually just the hexadecimal notation for v1."10" (one dot ten).  The hexadecimal notation is only used in the BIOS File Ending.  Once flashed, the BIOS will not identify itself in hexadecimal notation but in decimal code (which means you will never see "v1.A0" after the flash but "v1.10" instead.
    Here is a piece of well-meant advice for now and the future:  MSI Live Update should be avoided under all circumstances when it comes to BIOS Updates and/or information retrieval regarding your current BIOS Version.  Why?  Because this tool is stupid and one of there most risky applications for performing a BIOS Flash.  Please uninstall it completely.
    Why do I call it stupid?  I call it stupid because it does not differentiate between hexadecimal notation and decimal notation.  It will show you that "v1.A0" is available.  The it will flash it, if you allow it to do so.  Of course, a v1.A0 Version will always come out as "v1.10" (one dot ten).  When you re-run MSI Live Update it will not recognize that v1.A0=v1.10 and tell you again that there is a newer version available (1.A0, which, again, is the same as v1.10, which was just properly flashed).
    I believe that the update went just fine, that you are currently using v1.A0=v1.10 and that MSI Live Update is actually just creating a pseudo-problem which is currently confusing you.  The pseudo-problem will immediately be out of the world, if you uninstall MSI Live Update and rely on the BIOS ID String as it appears on the POST Status Screen (this includes the date shown there).
    If a BIOS Update should ever be necessary again, please make sure that you won't use MSI Live Update but >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< instead.

    That's the same BIOS version... Just the "MSI Live Updater" is not very smart...
    H.A=H.10=17.A=17.10 [A=10, H=17], the last "0" suffix in H.A0 means its official version.

    The Tool now will detect and shows BIOS versions alias when the MSI BIOS version is known with more than one name.
    So no more flashing and flashing and flashing to the same version because of MSI LiveUpdate suggest again BIOS update...
    Also no more confusion:
    "What's my BIOS version?" -> I flashed my BIOS to 1.A0 [A7520IMS.1A0], but BIOS says its 1.10

  • Lenovo n500 - crashed winxp during bios flash upgrade

    Hi all...
    During the Bios upgrade (52ch04ww.exe) crashed windowsxp, rebooted, and never boots again. No bios, no screen (video).. 
    How i can restore my bios or reset to the factory? None see on monitor - black screen and no boot.
    Maybe know anybody some bootable automated bios/flash recovery software?

    Hem, forget your Notebook.
    On my old HP Notebook i did an bios flash from bios which was not for my notebook , the Laptop goes on, but the screen is black and it does nothing.
    Your problem is, during the update or flash, and crash there are no bios on the ROM anymore, or maybe not the whole BIOS.
    So, there are some solutions:
    1) Forget the laptop, because, if you got warranty, contact Lenovo, but they can say, that you should pay for the new motherboard with the BIOS on it. By HP it costs 230€ - 300€ (for a bit more i bayed my Lenovo Notebook), or they will do it IF the mistake was done by Lenovo (by HP somebody put the BIOS file for my laptop, under the Category for my laptop, but it was BIOS from an other Laptop, mistake done by HP, they pay!).
    But if its your mistake, sorry, through the laptop out of the window.
    2) Other way: There are no other ways. In the old PC's you could change the ROM-Chip.  you could buy it on ebay, or some little companies. BUT, the ROM chip from lenovo notebooks, are soldered in the motherboard like by HP, so you cant change them.
    3) Trying to boot from CD/DVD/USB-Floppy/USB-Flash:
    This wont help! Because the BIOS (Hardware Layer ) is no more, so the Hardware doesn't know what to do.
    For example if the BIOS ok, the system becomes command what to do, to do a POST test or something like that, then you can chose by pressing keys what the system should do, for example boot.
    But without BIOS, the system do not have the commands any more.
    So
    Contact the Lenovo Support Service, and ask what could you do, and how much the repair costs.
    I learned  one thing, NEVER DO THE BIOS flash under windows!
    I mean it was not my mistake by my HP notebook, but it could happen with each notebook, when it crashes.

  • Bios Flash

    can a bios be flashed when you cant get the laptop to respond to anything except  powering on Pavilion dv9000 entertainment laptop

    I press the power button and the only thing the machine will do is /  all the loghts light up ubove the keyboard
    and the power led lights up, I can hear the fan running but no display, I've tryed an external monitor, witch on that monitor
    says no signal and powers down, the guy I baught the machine from said it all started after a Bios update.
    I don't know how the update came about----Windows Update/ HP sugested/ or other just know the machine does not show net Bios when the power button is pressed.. I did try removeing the battery and disconnecting the power cord and holding down the power button for thirty seconds or more.   so I wanted to try to reflash the bios to see if that fixes the problem.  I've downloaded WinImage/Boot600/cp006049 and sp48121. I have them all on a zip drive but I'm not sure I did it all right.  Any help would be great  I don't know if it is posible to do a bios flash if you cant get to dos prompt on the machine to be flashed.

    Hello,
    I need a BIOS flash for a Toshiba Satellite A20-S103 notebook. I already downloaded the one on the download site.
    But this one i can not use because i need windows to be installed. And that is just the problem.
    I can not install windows because the BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant.
    The BIOS version on the laptop is V1.10.
    To update i need a dos version to flash the bios.
    Is it possible to get a bios update which is written for dos?

    i did Have same problem. found nice resolve on it
    Satellite A200 (PSAE2), all partitions killed (include hidden) so i can't use BIOS (windows based) update :-(((
    aim = win XP SP2
    steps:
    1) Win XP disk in CD, scsi drivers ICH8M_32bit on USB FDD (Mitsumi btw) attached to notebook.
    2) booting from CD. F6. When windows installator found ICH8M_32bit drivers. I am creating disk C: (NTFS)
    3) He begins to copy temp installations files. During this procedure it says what it couldn't copy all files from usb FDD to HDD. It says to me what i will have problems in sucesfully complete installation. In spite of that installator succesfully transfering windows files onto C:
    4) First planned reboot. I see blue death screen. End? Not so soon!
    5) i have begin new installation. Again give to installator ICH8M_32bit drivers from usb fdd disc.
    6) i choosed "leave current NTFS on C: without changes".
    7) This time all drivers from fdd disk has been transfered succesfully.
    8) After reboot installation of Win XP completed succesfully!!!
