Bios Hangs when Ipod Shuffle pluged in.

Hello,
I have an iPod Shuffle 512mb and whne I leave it pluged into a USB port my computer hangs at the intial bios screen. It hangs right after detecting the CPUs. I have a ASUS PC-DL (bios 1009) with 2x 1.6Ghz LV Xeons (overclocked to 2.64Ghz) and 2x512 Kingston Ram. I have read the support pages on this problem and it and have triend disbaling the "boot from other devices" (aka usb). This did not solve my problem. What I found interesting was that my computer hangs in a diffrent spot then were the tech article says it should. As stated it hangs right after detecting CPUs and not at the screen as if it was trying to load an OS from the Shuffle. If I do not boot with out the shuffle in the computer does not load. I have left the computer just sitting to see if it would load for ~30 minutes and nothing, as soon as I removed the shuffle and rebooted the system would it work.
I was wondering if anyone had similar problems or knew of any fixes.

  • Trouble playing music when iPod shuffle is connected

I have an iPod shuffle. When it is connected to my iTunes, it will sporadically re-connect and update every 5-10 minutes or so when I try to play music. I will try playing a new song on iTunes, and the application will interrupt my click, freeze for a few seconds, state that it is updating my Shuffle (without me instructing it to), and my Shuffle will pop up in Windows explorer. This is extremely annoying and tedious--and it only happens with my Shuffle, not my nano.
Do any other users suffer this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Just tried it and now it works. Of course it's the simplest answer. =)
    Thank you!

  • Running OSX 10.7.5.  Updated iTunes to 11.0.1.  When iPod Shuffle 2nd generation is connected, I get a message saying the media is corrupted and cannot be read.

Don't want to do a restore if I don't have to.  I have another iPod Shuffle, also 2nd generation that sychs with a different Macbook running iTunes 11.0.  No problems there.  Is there an issue with this software update?

Reboot your computer.  Temporarily disable any security software, i.e. firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.

  • ITunes hangs when iPod is connected

    I have iTunes 8.2.1 on my 2009 20" iMac with OS 10.5.7.
When I plug in my iPod Touch, iTunes will show a turning color wheel and becomes non-responsive for a minute or two. Other apps will operate fine in the OS at such time.
This happens at random times, and I cannot nail down a reason.
When iTunes becomes non-responsive with a turning color wheel while the iPod is plugged in.....the OS and other apps will see the iPod fine. As soon as the color wheel stops turning, the iTunes become responsive, and then it shows the iPod under DEVICES. During the color wheel turning period, there is nothing under DEVICES in iTunes.
I am sure this has happened to others before. Darn! I thought Mac does not have such problem and I ended up buying one. Should I regret now?

    Hy there,
Having spend hours the last days solving similar issues with my ipod Touch / Mac Mini - here's how I finally got my problem solved. Hopefully this will give some useful clues.
I also found that on my MBP - the Touch seemed to work fine - thus excluding Touch hard/firmware problem.
    On the Mini:
    - Deleted iTunes
(simply trash the App - to be able to empty the trash I had to first terminate iTunesHelper via System Monitor)
    - Removed the Apple Mobile Device Service
    (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747?viewlocale=en_US)
    - Removed the App "iToner" as well as it's iTonerHelper files
(To find them use Spotlight with choosing the option file type other "System Files")
    - Repaired Disk Permissions
    - Restarted the Mini
    - Reinstalled the latest iTunes 9.0.3
    - Launched iTunes - deleted the iPod Touche's backup file
    - Closed iTunes - repaired Disk Permissions again
    - Launched iTunes
    - Put the iPod Touch into Recovery Mode and made a fresh set up
....finally it syncs again at normal speed without freezing iTunes
NO MORE beachball of death !
Hope this may be of any help.
    Best
Note that I have two iPhones who synced normally all the time on the Mini.
It was only the iPod Touch which brought up the freezing...? Go figure

  • Itunes 7.0.1 hangs when iPod 2G attached

I have updated firmware (using separate updater, because iTunes hangs), erased and re-partitioned; zeroed all data (disk utility); restored factory settings on the iPod.
iTunes displays "updating iPod", spinning pizza appears, cmd-opt-esc shows iTunes "not responding". Leaving it for an hour makes no difference.
iPod still works as a hard disk and behaves normally (boots up, menus, extras all ok).

I have managed to solve the problem. It seems that iTunes 7.0.1 is unable to play one album in my entire collection and it hangs if I try to have any songs from that album in my iTunes library. I managed to get iTunes working again by reimporting my iTunes library and then removing the offending album before it could get up to doing the gapless playback mojo on those tracks.
    To reinstall the iTunes library
    1- go to ~/Music/iTunes/
2- move iTunes Music Library.xml file to your desktop.
3- trash the iTunes Library file.
4- start up iTunes and go to ->File->Import and import the iTunes Music Library.xml file from your desktop.
Bare in mind if you have a big library that it will probably take a while to import your entire file list. Try removing the offending song from your iTunes library and see if it works.
Strangely, the offending mp3 files play fine if opened in Quicktime. It would seem that something to do with the files encoding is crashing iTunes gapless playback process.

  • Why does itunes just hang when ipod's connected?

whenever my ipod is connected to either of my computers, itunes just locks up for 30 seconds, then you can click something for about 10 seconds, and then locks up again for 30 more seconds. this repeats the entire time the ipod is connected.
    what gives?

Yes - many people are having problems with their iPod Classics, and I had exactly this problem as well. I returned my iPod Classic for a full refund - I suspect that Apple let either the iPod or iTunes out too soon this time. I didn't want to risk that it wouldn't be fixable with a firmware/software update so I returned it. I'll have to delay my 160GB iPod satisfaction until they work through some of the issues.
NOTE: you should return it without paying any restocking fee. I insisted on this, and brought printouts of a number of these threads about how slow the iPod Classic is. This is essentially a defective product and you should not have to pay 15% for that.

  • Why does my keboard freeze when I plug in my ipod shuffle?

Hi for some reason my ipod shuffle which has worked really well up to now (and still works) freezes up my keyboard as soon as I put it in the usb. I have tried all variations of usbs all work fine except with the combination of ipod shuffle and keyboard - a mystery. Have checked the shuffle with other apple computers and it is fine. Also keyboard works great when ipod shuffle removed  can anyone help?

Brian, another way of looking at this is: how many devices do you have connected to the USB port (the same one)? I've found through using external storage devices that one port can handle two devices. I had four going at once one time, but the same thing happened, only two would evenually connect.
There's a limit to connections per USB port, I'm just trying to see if you have too many connectins on one port. If so, obviously, if you have other USB ports available, plug the nano into it's own port and see if that "cures" the missing nano.

  • TS1369 Hello! I have an Ipod Shuffle 2nd Generation and it is not recognized by my Windows 8 based laptop. An error message of 'USB device not recognized' is shown. I have the latest ITunes version installed, and tested the dock in other pc's.

    Hello!
I have a problem connecting my Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation to my Windows 8 based laptop. The computer doesn't recognize the Ipod and issues an error message saying 'USB device not recognized'. I tried uninstaling ITunes(latest version) and all other Apple software and reinstaling it back again, checked my USB hubs in the 'Device Manager' section of the Control Panel, you name it.
I could really use some help solving this.
I've turned to the troubleshooting section in Apple Support but it has nothing concerning situations in wich the device isn't even shown in the 'My Computer' folder.
Help a brother out, will you???

Found a solution in another forum http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-63733-ipod-not-detected-on-computer (a few posts down).
It was for an IPOD so you can see those details in the link.

Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.
    - Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
    - Your i pod will say do not unplug so don't. then open itunes and it will be there.
I did not have to do these thing below – did not get error message and shuffle was displayed in Itunes. / LMc
Just remember to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it.
Stop it and select "apple ipod".

  • IPod shuffle  recognized by iTunes but can't get downloaded audio courses into iTunes and onto shuffle.

When iPod shuffle is plugged in and I go to Computer, it doesn't always show up, so maybe there is a loose connection. I jiggle it and try different things and it shows up temporarily then goes again. But the biggest problem is that I get a message saying  Please Insert a Disk into Removable Disk (E:)  Also, I am trying to download audio courses I bought into iTunes then onto iPod. Never had this problem before. Have downloaded with no trouble before..

I can't help with the connection issues, because that sounds like a hardware problem.
    For the iTunes-related problem
    Never had this problem before.
that sounds like it may be not seeing the sidebar (along left side of window), because the latest iTunes hides the sidebar initially.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
With the sidebar visible, iTunes (mostly) works like it did before version 11.x.  Hopefully, you'll see what you need to do...

My ipod shuffle is not charaging

    Hello Luhgar,
If your iPod shuffle will not charge when from the source you normally use I have a couple recommendations for you. Try plugging in the USB cord to a different USB port, or a different device. If using a poweroutlet try another. If the issue persists then reset the iPod shuffle and try again.
This article will show you how to reset the iPod:
    Resetting iPod shuffle

  • IPod Shuffle 4th, the restore fails

    Dear Apple communities,
I don't know if I am unlucky or not, but this is the second iPod shuffle which suddenly stops to work.
In this case, during a jogging session, it stop to work. But the strange “error” came when I connect it to my fresh and new iTunes installation.
It happens that iTunes propose me this:
I confirm and I start with the restore:
iTunes "restores" my iPod, but at the end of the restart I go back to the first step again and nothing is changed. I am in a loop, as I documented in this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV9aKcVvU5M&feature=youtu.be
Do you have any idea? I tried several hints I found by Google without success....

After listening to songs on my ipod shuffle and then synchronizing with my iMac some of the listened songs are not marked as listened and others that I haven't listened to are marked as listened. • Itunes 4.9 hangs and constantly "updates" ipod shuffle

    Hi,
I was happily using iTunes 4.7 up until a new hard disk about a month or 2 ago. I didn't like OS X.3.9 and there were major low volume issues for me with the iTunes 6.? that Apple had installed.
I downgraded everything to X.3.8 and itunes 4.7, and things were OK. My Podcatcher (Podsafe 0.4) however has had issues lately with downloading podcasts and is no longer under development. So I found the iTunes 4.9 update and installed it (repaired permissions before and after).
    2 problems now.
    1. When my Shuffle is plugged in iTunes constantly (I mean non-stop) displays "updating iPod do not disconnect" for about 5 seconds then "ipod update is complete" for about 2 seconds then back to "updating ipod" etc etc.
    2. If I try to change any info (e.g. stop or start time, or genre) iTunes hangs and no matter what I click it won't respond for about 3 or 4 seconds.
I've run the usual maintenance. Any ideas what's going on? Is iTunes 4.9 buggy? If yes, how do I go back to 4.7? I liked 4.7 just fine - my only purpose in updating to 4.9 was for podcatching. I can upgrade my NetNewswire to enable podcatching.
    Thanks.

It's not against the track but against the playlist that's on the iPod when viewed in iTunes. It appears to the far right of the playlist underneath the iPod in the left-hand pane of iTunes. The same spot where the eject button would appear if it was something that could be ejected.
I never noticed that iTunes would show the playlists for an iPod before. I had never thought of looking at them, and now that I have it shows this exclamation mark beside some of them. I have compared the these playlists on the iPod to the playlists on my computer and they contain the same number of tracks.
