BIOS L755-Beware of Toshiba Fix

I received an automatic update (below) from Toshiba, and when I accepted it, it killed my computer.  Now, when turned on, it whirs and whirs, but nothing comes up on the screen.  Spoke to Tech Support, and was told the laptop will have to be sent in to replace the hard drive.  Tech said that Toshiba is working to correct the patch.  So, it sounds like a problem Toshiba is aware of.
Warranty will cover the fix, but will not cover any software or files/docs lost.  Was told I will have to take it, at my expense, to another computer tech to have all files and software manually taken off and saved to be placed back on my laptop after Toshiba repairs it.  I've just had the laptop for 2 months.  It was working great until Toshiba sent the update.  Seems that Toshiba should be responsible for my expenses due to their faulty update.  Or, at the least, Toshiba would agree to manually do the backup and restore.

If you attempt this you will have to download the above image and burn it to a disc. Once that is done put the disc in your rom. Boot your laptop into the BIOS and make sure your ROM is the first in your boot order then reboot. It will take a few minutes but Mint will boot and you can plug an external hard drive into your computer and drag all of your files over.

  • BIOS Update interrupted - Toshiba e305-s1995

    Hi,
My laptop was giving me this cooling system warning we all know about, when I googled and tried to search for solutions, one of them was to update the BIOS, that I did, or tried to, at least. Everything was great, downloaded the files, put them in my USB stick, started the installation process, when it did, my computer just shut off in the middle of the process. I think it was due to overheating, like it had done it before. The computer was sitting on a flat table, with a pedestal fan on it.
Now when I turn it on, it won't even display anything, just lights up the keyboard, and when it has to turn the screen on, it just starts all over again like a loop.
Now to the solution, what are my possible solutions? Is the BIOS chip removable? Do I have to change the motherboard, and if so where can I find it (I live in the Dominican Republic)? Is there something I can do to fix it? Or do I just forget I had a laptop? Please, I need any help, if any of you know how to solve this, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Bios update for my Toshiba satellite c675-s7200 - Helppppppp :/

I am being told to download the bios update for my laptop so I put in the serial # and it gives me an update but I have read alot about once you upate your bios it wont work so I am really nervous about doing this..here are the problems I have been having..
    1. My laptop was restored back to the factory settings just like it came out of the box.
    2. When I turn on my laptop I have to press f1 to start windows now keep in mind it does not ask me to press any keys I only knew to press f1 because it was stuck on the Toshiba screen showing the f2 and f12 keys so I began pressing them all until i got to windows. None of the function keys work expect f1
    3. Once I get into windows everything runs and works fine. I have gone into my toshbia asst to reset the bios to default but it does nothing so I can not apply it. What do I need to do?
I have been told that I need to replace my cmos battery but then I have been told that is not the problem the problem is the bios settings need to be changed to the default WELL ok how do I that if it will not let me?
    Helpppppp...

Hi! It could be your CMOS battery causing this. Shut down your PC. When it starts up and you see F2 and F12 at the bottom of your screen, press F2. Find where it says to set to default on the bottom of the screen. My default is F10. Yours
may be different. After you set to default , save and exit!
    Dokie!

  • 845 PE-Max "NEW" Bios Flash "does it really fix the temp readings?"

So MSI has been having problems with there Temp readings on there boards. So I was surprised to see that they just released a bios update to correct this issue. Of course I couldn't wait to download and flash the bios and see what effect it had. Everything went well, I popped into windows and (I'm testing Intel's stock HSF currently) and my temps dropped drastically????? Now this can't be correct either...
    Motherboard: 32c
    CPU: 29c
    Case 23c
Now remember this is with the retail P4 2.53 HSF. With the new bios flash it shows a cooler temp than my Spark 7. And the Intel is only running at 2400RPM. Before the bios flash with the Intel HSF:
    Motherboard: 33c
    CPU: 40c
    Case 23c

Well ran another test last night. Ran a CPU Burn-In test for 30 Minutes and the temp only hit 45c during the test. Obviously the new BIOS is incorrect. I find it impossible that the retail HSF on my P4 2.53GHz can keep it below 50c under max load. My Tt Spark 7 with Artic Silver II only kept it at 37c idle. I'm reading 28c Idle now using the retail HSF.
    MSI - ??????????????????????????

  • Has anyone tried the 1.2C BIOS and had it completely fix their temperature reading problems?

Mine went down to 37C, then back up to 59C when I left the computer off overnight.
It did this after every attempt to solve the problem by flashing the BIOS.
Also, the NB temperature stays at 45C even on the first boot after flashing where the CPU temperature temporarily changes. Does this happen for other people too?

    Is it a Beta Version?
Will it be fine to Update, I am a little afraid of the Beta versions
    "Is it a Beta Version?"
Yes it is, you have to use it at own risk. That's valid for each BIOS flashing btw.
"Will it be fine to Update, I am a little afraid of the Beta versions  "
It was used by many ppl by now, so far so good. The famous issue is resolved by this one.
So if you really experience the same issue and not something else, your problem should be solved.

  • Presario CQ57 won't start. BIOS is bad. How fix it

When I turn the laptop on, the screen goes nowhere.  Apparently the BIOS has gone bad.  I don't have a repair disk.  IS there any kind of a CD that I can get that will restore the BIOS?

Many things other than BIOS can cause a no-boot condition.

  • What was fixed in the BIOS v2.10 for Portege M400

Can anybody point me in the direction of a page that documents what is included/fixed in the new BIOS?

On the Toshiba European site I didnt find any descriptions about the BIOS renewals.
But I have visit the US Toshiba site and found some inforamtions.
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Visit this site and chose -> Downloads
There chose the Portg M400 and go to the driver downloads.
The first one should be BIOS 2.1. If you click on the BIOS 2.1 you will see the whole renewal history.
But Im not sure if the BIOS from the US site is the same like the one from the European site.

  • L755-S5216 Due to unknown BIOS password unable to boot to optical drive for recovery

Unable to access BIOS or change Boot Order due to unknown BIOS password.  Called Toshiba Tech Support and they say they don't have a MoBo diagram or sevrice manual so I can find jumpers to reset BIOS.  They told me to call local repair, but they are also unwilling to help.  Tried removing CMOS battery, no go.  There must be somone out there who can help me with location of reset jumpers.  I'm beginning to think I wil no longer be recommedning Toshiba.  Thanks to anyone who can help!

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that number.  It’s an independent contractor for Toshiba and they also are unwilling to provide the simple information on how to reset the BIOS.  I don't understand how no one at Toshiba is willing to provide this information.  Anyone who purchases an electronic product is entitled to a schematic or diagram of the jumpers on the motherboard.  Independent contractors shouldn't be put in the position of supplying tech support for Toshiba, and so it's understandable that they won't and would rather charge $175 for something that anyone should be able to do themselves.   I hope this can be escalated to someone in Toshiba management.  There are many laptop choices.  Holding back simple information to allow one to fix their own Toshiba laptop is not good corporate strategy.

  • Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 stuck on toshiba logo after bios change

My Toshiba Satellite p75-A7200 is stuck on toshiba logo after bios change.
entered bios fine changes from UEFI to CSM boot and now i cannot enter bios or boot past toshiba logo.
Ive tried F2 tapping and holding while powering up the laptop(tried every Fkey,DEL,ESC, with and without FN key)
    cannot re-enter bios.
Also i tried to run the bios update cd created multiple  1.50 1.40 even 1.00, it doesnt seem to read any media.
i tried holding C, FN+C and f and just about every key on the keyboard to get something to work. i had dvd as top of boot priority for a while now so i shouldnt have to try f12 or holding C before boot but i tried . it doesnt seem to read any media
i tried windows 8 install cd, Ubuntu, centos, nothing goes past toshiba logo and no errors, i dont get the non bootable device error so its seems to not be reading the dvd. (dvd does spin and make read noises) im trying to find my usb floppy drive to try a floppy version but it acts like its not reading any media.
I also pulled the HDD and all usb devices to make the dvd the only media available and with the HDD out it spins then toshiba logo then black screen with solid white  horizontal curser on top left of screen.(only happens when hdd out)
is there some type of key combination that will force a bios update or a crisis recovery mode for bios.
I also Pulled the battery for 2 solid days(battery, cmos battery, and power supply and held power button for about 10 mins while watching tx to make sure the thing was drained before the 2 day sit with no power at all.
this happened the second i changed from UEFI to CSM boot so its not a motherboard problem or anything like that because all was well before this setting change.
I already pulled the HDD and backed it up to another drive and swapped it to elimiate that.
any ideas on a secret key combo to force a bios read from dvd or usb or anythng.
or another combo that im just missing to enter bios after CSM boot.
    UPDATE
to do a crisis recovery on this laptop
1 get a usb stick and format it in fat or fat32
2 download "7zip" and install it if you dont have it.
3 download bios from toshiba website.
4 run the installer for bios but dont choose and option just close it we just want to extract the files to the location normally  c:\splnvxxx where xxx is the version number like 150
5 goto the installed locaion "c:\splnv150" or whatever number.
    6. find file os2014273a_150 or something similar. it will be an application, it will end in version number _150, and it will also have a disc image file of the same name. but we want the app.
    7. right click on it and you should have an option 7zip then extract
once extracted there is a folder now archesxxxxxx_bios_v150_win
8 copy the bios file located in archesxxxxxblahblah/X64/BIOS.fd , BIOS.fd is the bios and just copy that to a BLANK usb thumb drive that was formatted with fat or fat32.
    9. put usb into your satellite and unplug the power from it.
10 holding FN + ESC key together plug the power back in and press power button.
    11. release keys FN and ESC if all is right it will have the power button and led on from blink abut every 1 second while it searches for the bios. once its done it will reboot and you should be good to go.
if it keeps cycling with the power button then the bios is named wrong or something is not right with the usb. try reformatting it again and make sure that the bios file is the ONLY thing on the drive.

Ok a little research and digging into the bios exe downloaded from toshiba shows this has INSYDE BIOS witch should have a recovery process wich i prepared a usb stick with just the bios.fd on it found some post around toshiba forums with different models using win +B or Fn + F but neither of these worked for me to force bios update
anyone with this model know the key combo to force recovery

  • Y50 uhd 48hz frame lock can be fixed lenovo must update bios and other seriouse promblems.

No it doesn't help at all.
Especially when I can be corrected.
Lenovo is lazy and disrespectful to its customers.

Hello I have discovered the y50 Uhd refresh ratecan be fixed the promblems stems from this orginally.  When the y50 came out theIntel® HD Graphics 4600which was used for display could only run uhd at 30hz so lenovo released a custom driver and bios too make it run at 48hz with windows 10 being released intel has updated the driverit now features dx11 and dx12 support and can run uhd at 60hz I completely deleted the lenovo drivers and unistalled them restartedand install intel drivers because deleting and the drivers is the only way you can install intel drivers as the lenovo drivers act more like a virus and locks you in too only using there drivers i quickly notices a shaper image and more deeper colors in the screen but it was still capped at 48 which leads me to the conclusion that indeed lenovo  capped it in biosor else it would of ran at 60 hz thanks too the new drivers also another thing lenovo did was block the ability to choose xmpfiles for highquality ram in bios this needs too be fixed because this a gaming laptopand lenovo you need to leave the bios alone you cant update you nvidia driversyou cant update you intel drivers and you permently limit people and they can not work around because simply you want to also lock there bios It feels like I was loaned a computer and i dont own it you cant pick and choose xmp setting like a real gaming laptop you need to fix this pronto stop locking everything. This is no longer your computer.. see the update here from intel now 60hzhttp://ark.intel.com/products/78934/Intel-Core-i7-4720HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz scroll down to the graphics specifcation section of this cpuyes this is the same cpu in the y50 monitor specs below SAMSUNG LTN156FL02-L01 Datasheet, Specification, Stocks, RFQs, Suppliers. a-Si TFT-LCD, 15.6', 3840×2160, 270 nit, 700:1 (Typ.), 16.7M color, 60Hz, WLED, eDP (4 Lanes) ... • Request for bios update to enable the switchable graphics fixed mode.

I formaly request a new BIOS update that will enable fixed switching for the HP g6 2204tx .Folowing the recent BIOS update available in the Support Section of HPs websites, version F.26, there is still no option  to enable fixed switching in the BIOS.

I can't use my laptop to it's full potential besause of this. My Disply driver is even older than my Laptop. Why do you do this to your customers. I'm never going to buy a HP laptop agin I feel that I have been cheated by HP. A very bad suport and not up to date drivers for the system

  • Bios Dynamic and fixed

Just had a quick question about the Switching of the dynamic and fixed graphics. When it is on dynamic it is using the Intel gfxs and when it is on Fixed it is using the 6770m correct? Everytime i want to use the 6770m for like BF3 do i have to restart my computer and go into bios to switch it to Fixed? And if i want to use it for causal use like email and searching the web do i also have to switch it back to dynamic?

  • 660Ti Power Edition OC TDP throttling - did MSI finally make any BIOS fix?

    Hi
The reason why I'm going back to this topic is the fact, that before my card throttled over 101% TDP even if I set power target to 114% but it happened only in benchmarks.
Sadly, recently I started to play Sleeping Dogs and even without overclocking, after setting power target to 100%-114% (no matter what value it is) my card throttles when it reaches 101% TDP. Now this worries me - this wasn't a problem when it happened in benchmarks, but it is a problem when my FPS are falling down because card throttles from stock 1228 MHz max kepler boost to much lower values. Sleeping Dogs maxed out is my first game which reached over 100% TDP.
AFAIK this is a common issue and it was also mentioned with GTX 670 cards, where You can flash Galaxy Bios and fix the issue (still wondering why MSI didn't fix it and Galaxy did but that's a whole different story ).
Is there any bios for 660Ti which will fix this? Or should I just RMA it? Please help
