Bios liveupdate problems

Hi everyone, hope that i can get some good info here!
I just installed my m/b and get some very strange messages on startup.
I have to check these messages exactly tonight and will get back to you, but this is as close as i can remember:
1) after the "CoreCell: Extreme Chip you've been needing" screen, I get "No devices detected, Bios not installed"
2) Next screen: I assume this is scanning for SATA drives, i have none connected to that part of the motherboard (yet) so it says Device 0: no device, Device 1: no device. (or something close to that)
3) Windows will then load as normal.
additional:
- between 1 & 2 I sometimes (not always) get a RealTek Gigabyte controller scanning, press Shift-F10 to configure.
- I can press delete anytime at 1 or 2 and get to the Bios.
- I am yet to see the "normal" startup screen, ie. Press delete to enter setup, etc other options as described in the Manual.
Next: I thought, maybe it's the Bios version, so I ran LiveUpdate, which says Hurrah, I have a new bios for you. I cheer and download it and install it, restart, and everything is exactly the same, run LiveUpdate again, and it still says I need to install the same new Bios!
OK, that's about all right now, I'm at work not with the computer but I'll be able to check details of things in a few hours :D

that's exactly what the MSI tech said when i emailed them with the problem, when i disabled them, kapow! hang at the logo screen :(

FYI: MS-7125 BIOS has problem with Hard Drives withNative Command Queuing (NCQ)

For those the have messed my two treads on which both ended up being cause by K8N Neo4 BIOS problem with HD's with NCQ.
Will wonders never cease? MSI Support finally conceded the BIOS has a problem with Hard Drives with NCQ and they have forwarded the problem to their programming department.
However, do not look for any results for above two weeks.

The problem that this thread has been trying to follow is the incapability of the nVidia RAID Controller with Serial ATA Type 2.5 drives. I know the threads has been hard to follow and part of that is because when I started the thread I had what appeared to be three totally un related problems, but all three were traced down the common problem of the incapability of RAID Controller with Serial ATA Type 2.5 drives.
The title of this thread is MS-7125 BIOS has problem with Hard Drives with Native Command Queuing(NCQ). The statement was true at the time it was written and has nothing to do with memory problems.
Sense the thread was started MSI has fixed the BIOS part of the problem, but we have sense learned the nVidia RAID Controller Command software and its driver has problems too. I have been working MSI Support, they have been using me to test pre-beta BIOS and Drivers soon. Of the testing I have done the pre-beta BIOS worked and the Pre-beta 32-bit driver works. I am assuming that the latest BIOS V1.B had as part of it included fixes was the needed fixes for working with the nVidia RAID Controller as I have test the pre-beta RAID Driver with BIOS Version V1.B as the Raid array function fine windows XP Pro 32-bit Edition. As I have had no communications with MSI support of over a week now I am hoping for a release of 32-bit and 64-bit RAID Drivers. But, nobody should get the hopes up, because through other backdoor sources nVidia is having a hell of a time. One reason for this I heard is that the nVidia RAID Controller is fully software, no hardware other than the electrical drive interfaces. Their problem started when they tried using the old 32-bit code Controller with new 64-bit hardware drivers and now they are having to totally rewrite the controller core in 64-bit code. But, knowing my source, it may all be fiction.
The RAID Array you say is up and running, are the drives full specification SATA 2.5 in other words do the both have 3Gb/s speed and NCQ. If you send me the full part numbers I will check the specifications a get back to you. Because if you have nVidia RAID 0 Array you working you will be the first to have done it and there about 230 people around the world that would like to know how you did it, even MSI, who's pre-beta nVidia RAID Drivers that will work with BIOS V1.B for 32-bit Windows only and nothing for Windows XP 64, would like to know.

915gm-fr 1.7-1.8 BIOS update problem

Hi, I´ve got bios version 1,7 and uses the Live update program, but it says that I´ve got the newest bios version. I wan´t to update to 1.8!!!!!!
What´s wrong, I have no disk drive, so I can´t use the DOS update utility

thats not a problem . You have to change liveupdate for that ,not Bios!!!

Bios downgrade problem

I made the mistake of installing bios 3.3 on my K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI. Now I'm getting startup problems. LiveUpdate installed the bios through while in windows. I don't have a floppy drive in my system, so I can't make a dos bootdisk. Can I use the utility that liveupdate used to install version 3.2 of the bios?

I made the same mistake in going to 3.3 i down graded my bios ver back to 3.1 by copying the files to a disk. i could not copy the files to my c drive because of my raid array, a floppy worked fine. I booted of a windows me startup disk and inserted the flash disk. Ran the flash OK. When rebooting, I recieved a chipset int. error, which went away after pressing the bios clear button. re did my setting and was back up and running. Hope this helps.
Had one question, when i had ver 3.3, windows would not shut down. Did you have the same prob?

MSI z77a GD80 PCI-e running at 8x and Bios update problem

The problem is, since the first bios, i can't run my PCI-E at 16x, i know when my card is idle the PCI-E goes to 1.1@4x , but when it's in use, it turns to PCI-E 3.0@8x , I'm also waiting for bios updates to check if it solves my problem, but when i try to download the new version 1.3, the download fails ( I'm trying to download with Live update 5 )m is there somebody that can help me solve this problem pls?
I've tried until now:
Replace the card into the first PCI-E slot again
Clear the PCI-E slot
Update to bios 1.1 and 1.2 ( 1.3 is not even downloading )
Set PCI Gen 3 from Auto to disable, and it keeps running with PCI-E 3.0@8x

Okie dokie, I'm new here, and I've been pouring through threads for the past 2-3 hours and doing searches, so please excuse these questions if they seem to have already been answered, but I would like to just ask a few (hopefully susinct) questions to get the quickest and most direct answers possible...
I just bought the 865pe-LS board, p-4 2.6ghz 800FSB HT CPU, and value-select Corsair PC3200 512MB dual-channel kit, and it has become apparent that there is or has been a HUGE problem with this board accepting corsiar memory. ARGH or should is say DOH for not checking into all of this BEFOREHAND!
But it seems that several bios versions have come out since the majority of those threads I have been reading about back in august. Sooo, can anyone tell me if the current version, 1.9 bios, has fixed these incompatibilities with the corsairs memory sticks? I realize that most people are going the LL version routes for the memory, and I have opted for the value-select versions...but it still seems to be a possible dilemma. I am wondering if it is worth it to try to pay the 15% restock fee or sell it on ebay (hopefully for about what I paid) and go get the same stuff in kingston memory instead, since these seem to be much more compatible? Or has this problem been fixed with newer bios versions?
Another important factor to consider, I think, is that I may not be THAT interested in overclocking much of anything, but perhaps just wishing to use the fast or turbo modes, probably not ultra-turbo since i would need the XMS or hyper-X versions to even try this. If the bios is now accepting corsair, I am trying to figure out, short of "experimenting" since i have not gotten all of my components in yet, if its even possible or recommended to overclock or use the fast/turbo mode with the cas-3 value select dual-channel setup I will be using...any clues?
Lastly, which may have been already answered by now, is it best to use the PAT or DOT settings or opt for manual setting for any sort of higher-performance setup, considering my specs for my soon-to-be new computer? Or does it really make THAT much difference? Im not into squeezing out every nano-second of speed, but if a little tweaking would make a BIG difference and wouldnt require me spending MANY hours or days to do so, then I'm all for it. I'm practically a noob at this stuff, only really educating myself in any depth about all this stuff tonight (going off of what outhers have recommended in making these purchases)...thanks for the understanding and the help in advance!

There doesn't seem to be any particular Ram type that is working for everybody. Also, many people that are experiencing problems are trying to overclock(some to extremes). You don't seem very interested in that aspect. For the Ram, you really just have to put it in and see what happens.
If you haven't already, read the FAQ HERE for the Neo/Neo2 boards. Particularly #5 which will help you setup the SATA/IDE devices in the Bios. Use Native mode for Windows XP.
Things I would set in the Bios right out of the box:
(Some of these might already be set by default)
Boot device select- Order that you want to boot from particular devices. Might have to set "On-chip IDE Config" items first and re-boot to see all your devices here.
HT-On
MPS revision-1.4
APIC ACPI....- Enabled
Dram Timing- By SPD
Integrated Peripherals is fairly intuitive except the "On-chip IDE config" see FAQ page.
DOT- disabled for now
MAT- slow to start
DRAM freq- 400
CPU Bus- 201(seems strange but do it; try a search here for "201" and you'll know why)
DDR voltage- 2.7v (like reilly said)
If this works OK(try something that stresses it) you can try raising the MAT to fast. After you're happy that this is stable, you can try turbo if you want but I'm not sure with the value Ram. Once you settle on this, try playing with the DOT features. I think General is the equivalent of a 10% increase on the system. Once you've found a setting you like here, you should leave it for a while and just enjoy your new compputer!
If you get bored, you can always go in and disable the DOT and manually raise FSB for more fun.
Things you should read up on before you do any overclocking:
Clearing CMOS
5:4 FSB/MEM ratio

Bios update problem...

i have a lenovo 3000 N100 0768 AQ1...I don't know which bios it had...i tried to update it...i downloaded bios update utility from
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67008#install
and extracted it...after that i went to C:/> drive where it was extracted and double clicked a file name ...
"ADROMLDR.exe"....a window poped up i flashed the bios using a file "DL01108.WPH" in realtek folder...since then i have been faacing problems ...i dont have back up bios ...i formatted my laptop thinking it will get ok......
my pc still has the problem....if i use keyboard the usb get connected and disconnected frequently...and the audio is having problem too....if i start my pc with headphone plugged in..te speakers of laptop don't work..just the headphones....and if i restart with no headphone plugged in...speakers play but they play even when i plug in the headphone..i.e. both headphone and speakers work at same time........
please help me.....what should i do???

Bios Update Problem P35 Neo2 - MS 7345 V 1.1

I've update my board bios because a "hard disk not present" problem and since it I was having several problems:
I'm running Windows XP SP2 and it takes a very long time to start (in bar and loading windows screen).
The major problem I have is when power on the computer it is alwayls showing the red font message that says it was a problem overclocking, so everytime I need to go into setup and to save changes whitout changing anything.
I suspect the bios I've installed is not the right one since the start screen says "MSI Neo Patinum" instead Neo2, but I've used Live Update ... so it should be the rigth one.
Can anybody help me please with this?

I will tell you the story:
I bought the computer and I was using the Blue (Marvel) sata port for the hard disk.
Then a normal day I began to have a very low Windows start so I changed the sata plug to a purple one and the problem disappeared.
Then I began to have the same problem again so I changed the plug again but problem was there anyway so decide to update bios to 1.8 version.
The problem come back randomly and sometimes it disappeared just changing the sata port to wich the plug is connected to.
After that I began to have the "No hard disk present" error and I cleared the CMOS and tried several things until it come to work again.
Few time ago I noticed that was a newer bios version, so then I used Live Update to update bios and drivers again.
Now I'm having the "slow" problem again. I'have been trying several configurations and testing programs but I just didn't find anything wrong.

I'm having the first post problem (overcloking message after power on)
I also had a very rare issue few time ago when shutdown the pc: few minutes later it power on by It self !! until I have disabled every wake up event from setup.

BIOS Settings Problem on KT3 Ultra2 MS-6380E with Barton 3000+(FSB333)

Well, I finally got my Barton 3000+ with 333 MHz FSB and installed it yesterday in my MSI KT3 Ultra2 Mainboard....
System Before changing anything:
PSU: DTK 400 W
+3.3 V / 22 A
+5 V / 35 A
+12 V / 15 A
-5 V / 0.5 A
-12 V / 0.8 A
+5 V VSB / 3 A
So that should make up 400 W as far as I know, my total System drain should be around 300-350 W so even if it would not suffice 400 W it should run the system ?
Mainboard: KT3 Ultra 2 (BIOS v5.7)
CPU: AMD XP 2100 FSB 133 MHz
RAM: 1.536 MB, 3x512 MB Infineon PC3200 (400MHz) CL 3-3-3-8 @400MHz, Cl2.5-3-3-7@333Mhz, 2-2-2-6@266MHz
VGA: MSI RX-9800 Pro 128 MB
DVD/CD-R/RW-Combo: Plextor PX-708 (Firmware 1.08)
CD-R/RW: TEAC CD-W540E (Firmware 1.0K)
Storage: Western Digital WD800BB (80 GB) (Firmware 17.07W17)

System was running stable for nearly 2 years with this Configuration:
So now it goes:
First I changed the CPU form my old AMD XP 2100+ to the new Barton 3000 + with its new Arctic Cool Copper Silent 2TC.
Then I went into BIOS and raised the FSB to 166 MHz, which should be the correct one, or do I have to put 167 MHz in there (since 166.666666 MHz is rounded to 167)?
Then I exited and watched the restart...but it didn't start-up it only got me 3 long beeps at the HOST.
After some whining and beating I plugged out anything and cleared CMOS and started the whole thing again:
System after Clearing CMOS:
Mainboard: KT3 Ultra 2 (BIOS v5.7)
CPU: AMD XP 3000+ FSB 100 MHz
RAM: 1x512 MB Infineon PC3200 CL 2-3-3-7 (BIOS setting CAS Latency by "SPD")
Storage: Western Digital WD800BB (80 GB) (Firmware 17.07W17)
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 172T with Driver Version 1.0
OS: Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
With all Default settings, the Computer boots up, and is correctly Recognized as a Barton 1300 MHz.
When increasing FSB to 133 MHz it is correctly displayed as a Barton 2200+
NOW...
...after adding one BIOS setting after another I narrowed the problem down to the "CPU Fast Command (decode)" Function...if set to Ultra it does not boot-up when running 166 MHz FSB, it does not even let me into BIOS. I have to clear CMOS and restart from scratch again...
Is this normal and expectable with a Barton 3000+ running at the native 166 MHz FSB or not ?
Since my system before was running on "Ultra" with my old AMD XP 2100+.
There is only one more thing I noticed, the CPU V-Core is shown to be only 1.616 V (setting on "Auto" but it should be 1.65 V ? Should I increase the V-Core to 1.675 V in order to get closer to 1.65 V or shouldn't I worry about ?

This setting can be set to fast/ultra on the KT3 Ultra2 when using PC2100 ram running at 266. However, when using PC2700 ram running at 333, this setting MUST be set to normal for the satisfactory operation of the board. I know that you have PC3200 ram actually installed but it is only running at 333.

How are you measuring this ie Bios or o/s utility? Not unknown that these are incorrect. However, if you feel unhappy about this, try setting the V-core manually to 1.65v and check what this gives.

Getting a more powerful psu will not likely cure this well documented problem.
However, this board mostly draws power from the 3.3 & 5v rails. The 12v is mostly used to power HDD, optical and fans. When you consider that 128Mb of ram draws about 8-10w from the 5v rail and you have a total of 1.5Gb that adds up to 96-120W of juice just for the memory alone. This board will beep at you at o/s level when it's running underpowered but my opinion is the same as osnavi's your 3.3v & 5v rails are too low. Also what is combined 3.3v & 5v wattage. What kind of reading do you get on monitoring utilities.
By the way I have as you can see from my dets below the same board and cpu as you and when I changed from a XP2000 Palomino with PC2100 ram to XP3000 Barton and PC3200, I changed the 'Fast Command' setting from 'Fast' to 'Normal'

Blank I would want to know if with last bios the 7,5 the problem of the controller intel and jmicron that they cannot work together and be resolved.

Compaq Presario CQ57 Laptop System Bios recovery problem

A customer of mine has a Compaq Presario CQ57 that has developed a BIOS problem.
I am unsure if it had had a BIOS update through HP Support Assistant or if it just decided to start for no reason but it now intermittently decides to recover the System BIOS at start up.
It is all very random. It may not do it for a while - working fine every time it is switched on - but then just decides to go into this recovery. Sometimes the recovery sorts it first time, sometimes it has to go through the recovery mode several times before it sorts it out. Once sorted, Windows and the laptop work fine.
I have tried to remedy it by installing BIOS updates. There are 4 available on the HP website. I have installed all four at various points - sometimes they install, sometimes they fail. Sometimes the recovery mode kicks in straight after - usually after a fail which makes sense. Other times it will work OK for many start ups and then just go back to it's old tricks.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Compaq Presario CQ57-212NR gives you an error after running the system recovery.
Can you tell me if this error loads within Windows or if it prevents you from starting up.
I would suggest you acquire an ISO image of Windows 7 and burn it to a DVD. Use this to install Windows and then run the recovery after. This should remedy the problem.

MSI MBOX K8MM-V BIOS/Boot problem

I recently put together this barbones system. 3000 for my daughter Semperon 80g hd 2nd 40g hd 1g both ide 1 dvd-rom 1 CDRW- DVD ddr 400 winxp pro loaded fine sees everhting. At boot I get standard press F11 to set boot sequence which I did set to main HD then each time after reboot goes back to bios prompt "press F1 to continue or DEL for setup. So I must press F1 each time to go to Windows? annoying!! I have tried reseting CMOS by removing battery and another time by resetting jumper to try to fix this to no avail? any suggestions would be aprreciated.

changed battery reset jumper still same problem I get this at boot
all HD & optical disk post correctly (slave master in right orde IDE 0 & 1)
floppy disk fail (40) ... even though I disabled in boot sequence
then
Press F1 to continue or DEL to enter set (F11 to set boot sequence)

Y510p bios startup problem

I am x-posting this from another section, since a member has suggested that it might be solved faster here.
I bought this computer about two months ago. Everything was fine in the beginning. Then I started to notice that it takes longer and longer to get to the lenovo emblem upon startup or restart. Now, the emblem either comes back in a minute and the computer boots up normally, or it never comes back (to be precise, I stared into the black screen for around 5 minutes before resetting). In no way I can interact with the computer, the black screen just stays there.
To reiterate my point; on startup everything else works correctly, the problem is that, after startup the computer shows bare black screen, no access to bios, nothing.
Is there a way that I can solve this problem?
For now I'm working around this oddity by never shutting down windows but hibernating it. It restores itself beautifully and without any strange behaviour. The thing is, I've installed Ubuntu in legacy boot mode and from time to time I need to use a Linux based operating system for my work.

MSI K9N2G-Neo and Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition - BIOS Options Problem

Hello, i have this MSI K9N2G-Neo + Athlon X2 7850 BE (REVEEN RCCT 0901SP + Tuniq TX2) + 4 x 2048MB OCZ Platinum 1066MHz, 700 watt real power supply, etc...
The problem is the bios v1.2 and new v1.3 that appears Disabled the CPU Voltage option for this cpu, in gray color or default values and i can´t change it. Now the cpu is running well at 3.2 ghz OC (200x16) some stable but not at all, i think it is a weak OC for a Black Edition CPU. Before i was using the X2 7750 BE and was the same problem with the CPU Voltages Bios´s options too.
Why in the bios isn´t enabled the CPU Voltage option ?
And why this Athlon Kuma don´t appear in the CPU SUPPORT LIST ??
This mother says that support CPUs up to 140watts and AM3... is it sure or it is a lie ?
This bios v1.3 is a few days new, Now i have to wait another 5 moths for a new one ??

Hi Svet... i did what u said me with numpad and nothing happended cause the cpu option is disabled. I think there is some kind of incompatibility between this mother and Kumas Core CPU... whit the 7750BE was the some issue too.
MSI official web page and 140Watts mothers support shows it.

LiveUpdate Problem

I have had no luck getting most updates via the Live Monitor tool. The tool correctly connects and gets the list of available updates and then gives me a nice HTML table with the new version and a blue "Install Shield Wizard" button.
I have tried many times and many different updates, but they all follow this basic pattern - I start to download, then it asks me to make a directory for the update. It gets 4 or 5 Kb of info and then starts the "real" download. Anything under around 500Kb works every time. However anything larger (ie nforce, utilities, drivers, etc) will almost always freeze at around 650 Kb downloaded. I have left this download for hours - and no progress. The task manager shows an "iftw.exe" just sitting there getting no CPU. If it gets past the magic 650Kb line, it will almost always freeze at 2 or 4 Mb. Nothing has ever made it past 4 megs. I have never successfully downloaded NForce drivers with this thing. I got the service update from installshield.com but nothing seems to help.
Any ideas? I like LiveUpdate but the stupid Install From The Web is not working :(

I don't recommend doing any type of "Live" Updates to your computer other than Windows Update...if something glitches in any update you can render your system useless...this does go for Windows Update as well...
BIOS updates should ALWAYS be done in DOS mode using a Floppy Disc...it's the safest way to do them...it's also the most dangerous if you don't know what you're doing...

Why update if nothing is wrong??? You're just asking for trouble...if the machine is doing everything you need it to do then leave it alone...
