  • HDMI sound distortion on a mini 311

When playing through the TV using HDMI the sound is badly distorted, no matter how low the sound level is set on the computer or the TV. I've updated the Nvidia drivers (sp45034.exe) but it made no difference. I've flashed the BIOS too. If I play the same recording through the computer speakers, it sounds fine.

    Thanks in advance - Chuck

I have the exact same issue.  I have been asked to return for repair (which I did).  Service center "reassembled" the unit.  Obviously they never checked the issue because once received back, the problem continued (no change from before).  Very frustrating.
Tested two HDMI cables, and two TV's.  Same garbled audio on all equipment.  Audio is fine on built in soundcard/speakers.
Bought this to be able to stream on the TV... so much for that idea.

  • Hp mini 311-1000nr

The hp mini 311-1000nr will not boot after, I install the additionnal  2G memory module in the slot provided.  I am running windows 7 Professional. It will boot once I remove it. Why is that so? The caps lock light is flashing

What are the specs of the memory you installed? It takes up to 2 gigs of DDR2-667 I believe.

  • Does HP Mini 311 have TPM?

Does the HP Mini 311-1037NR  come with TPM (trusted platform module) so that I can use bitlocker to encrypt the drive?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
It is a piece of hardware, some business machines have it built-in (you can see in Device Manager, not BIOS):
But you can also use Bitlocker without TPM. Please check the folllwing article:

  • Getting Blue Screen --I've Only Had the HP Mini 311 for One Week

Do you have an HP Mini 311? I have had my HP Netbook for one week and I keep receiving the blue screen.  I installed Adobe Lightroom yesterday and I received it after the install.
Is this common with HP Mini 311s?
Is it worth returning to Verizon or can I get it fixed by contacting HP support?

Try removing your sim and insert it again and make sure that its clean as well as the sim tray. insert it securely locked in place. See if it works, quick fix. If not try to use a different sim or try your sim to a different h/s. For you to be able to isolate if its with your sim or iPhone. Tricky Tips!

  • Bios Lock

Hi I have a HP Mini 110-1134cl and it just recently somehow got a bios lock put on it and i do not know the password, is there a way someone could help me reset it back to normal without me paying? I even looked for a jumper on the motherboard and this model doesnt seem to have one, so if i could just get some help on resetting the password back to normal that would be amazing!! BTW heres the system halt error code it gives me after failed password entry,  2MC94780MH

Hi: Please read the first post at the link below which should resolve your dilemma. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Sy... Then... You can: 1. Use the unlock code you generated to enter the BIOS
    2. Disable all passwords that are enabled in the BIOS's security menu.
    3. If asked for current password - type the unlock code
    4. For new password, just press ENTER key
    5. Repeat the same for verify password column.

  • HP Mini 311 Blue Screen

I am on my second HP Mini 311 netbook running Windows 7 Home, with a Verizon internal wireless card.
Both machines have the exact same problem.  Blue Screen.
I found the following on the Verizon blog.
The problem is identicle to mine. Help please!
"I have an HP Mini 311-1037 netbook running windows 7, with a Verizon internal wireless card (HP un2400). I'm having intermittent crashes (BSOD) which always happen immediately after I terminate a wireless connection and then shut down VZ access manager. Basically, when I exit the program, the program window goes away, I see a smaller dialog box showing that the wireless card is powering down, and then the dreaded blue screen pops up. The error message code is BUGCODE_USB_DRIVERS. That error message seems odd since the internal card is not a USB device. However, when it powers up, I see a driver loading that is called "Qualcomm HS_USB_QDLoad So far, I've had 8 of these crashes. The event log always shows the same error message as the cause of the unexpected shutdown: bugcheck 0x000000fe (0x00000008,0x00000004, 0x852f05d4, 0x00000000) After the crash screen, windows tries to restart and fails. It then offers me the option of running a startup repair. That always fails. So then I have to do a system restore (roll back to an earlier restore point). That works, but it totally hoses up my A/V software. It then takes about 20 minutes to get that fixed. On balance, a real horror show. After the last two crashes, I discovered that if I decline to run startup repair, and just keep trying to do a normal reboot, then after the second or third try, it will start up OK without doing any repair or system recovery. That is also hard to figure out. HP technical support hasn't been very helpful so for. The HP support forum shows messages from a couple other owners of the same model net book who are reporting the same problem, so there may be a generic problem here. I tried updating the wireless modem firmware, using the latest download from HP. I was OK for 4 days, and then had 2 more crashes." .

I have had the same issue since I purshased the netbook last March. I have called both Verizon and HP in regards to the issue. First Verizon has told me that it is a HP issue and then i get connected to HP. I am on the phone with them for 5 hours cuz they want be to do re-do my network and other stuff. After a couple of days samething.  Call back and the samething. I have called 5 times already until I talked to someone two days ago in Verizon IT department. The rep told me not to use the VZ access program due to some issues they are having with Windows 7. I tried to use my netbook this morning and I got the blue screen again without using the VZ access program. So I dont know anymore. You really have to pull your teeth out to get the right help from both companies. I am gonna try and call again later today and see what happens. Why can't us the customers get the proper help and no wasting our time.

  • Mini 311 - RAM and OS question (UK based)

I'm very interested in the Mini 311, because it is one of the few netbooks with both HDMI and VGA outputs that is in my price range (with decent enough graphics to do what I want with it).
But being in the UK, there is not yet any sign of a Windows 7 model (I spoke to HP sales on the phone, and they're not even sure IF it will make it over here, let alone WHEN).
I wouldn't mind this so much, as I still like XP, and am not likely to use many (if any) of Windows 7's new features on a netbook... But i've also heard that the XP models have a max RAM limit of 1GB, where as the Windows 7 models can be upgraded higher. Is this true?
If that IS the case, then i'd like some further opinions:
    1.  Is the Mini 311 still an adequate netbook with XP and 1GB of RAM... I will be using it for: Documents, Videos, Web-Surfing/MSN/Skype, and older games (particularly emulators of old consoles, such as SNES, Gameboy Advance, and N64 - via the HDMI port onto an HDTV).
    2. Is it worth me holding out to see if a Windows 7 model DOES come out in the UK... Or would it even be worth me getting a relative in the US to purchase one and send it to me (apparently all I need to do is buy a different AC adapter)? Or is the XP model good enough?
    3. Any better options for a netbook that has both HDMI and VGA, and has enough power to do what I want?
*EDIT* I also read somewhere that XP gives almost an hour better battery life than 7 with a 6-cell battery... any ideas whether that's true, or close to true?
    Thanks for any assistance!!

I will be using it for: Documents, Videos, Web-Surfing/MSN/Skype, and older games (particularly emulators of old consoles, such as SNES, Gameboy Advance, and N64 - via the HDMI port onto an HDTV).  Absolutely.  Unless you are doing graphics or video editing you'll love it.

Or would it even be worth me getting a relative in the US to purchase one and send it to me (apparently all I need to do is buy a different AC adapter)? Or is the XP model good enough? I wouldn't wait.  Even here in the states the mini are only coming with Win 7 Premium, which doesn't run all older programs compatible with XP.  Win 7 Professional will run all XP programs but it'll cost ya!
    3. Any better options for a netbook that has both HDMI and VGA, and has enough power to do what I want?
Nope.  I wanted want you wanted and love this mini 311.  I was looking at a new Dell Inspireon (sp?) of some sort but ended up with the 311.
*EDIT* I also read somewhere that XP gives almost an hour better battery life than 7 with a 6-cell battery... any ideas whether that's true, or close to true?  I read that too but I think the test comparision was only running minumum applications.   Regardless, XP will provide somewhat longer battery life but I wouldn't let that be your deciding factor.
If you end up with a 311, make to update the drivers.  It took me awhile struggling to get the HDMI out untill I realized I had to update the video AND audio drivers.
    cheers

  • Hp mini 311 purchased from verizon

i have an hp mini 311.   it is running horribly slow and stops and crashes, to the point where it is not hardly usable.  ive run several virus and malward programs and all say its clean..  ive done the obvoius such as deleting cache and temp file...  in any event i am giving the computer to my daughter to use and want to just restore it to the factory setting or just reburn the operating system to the machine which should take care of whatever the problem is.   when i click the "restore to factory settings" option, it tells me to insert the windows operating disc.   dont have one because this unit doesnt have a disc drive.  i did purchas an external usb drive, which works quite well..  so........   what is the easiest way to restore this machine back to original ?    there are no files on the machine that i can not do without.

Did you try Pressing F11 right after pressing power on button?
Sorry because of different timezone I might not be able to help/reply you right away.IF that happens I deeply apologize!

  • My first HP Mini 311 experience. (horror story)

    Service Order number:
    AQB780 - 01
    Well this all started the 20th of April when I purchased a 311 from Ecost.com: http://www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=55 ... =155441519
I then received it on the 22nd, opened it up from the sealed HP box and upon first firing it up while charging the battery, I discovered it was getting very hot. So I downloaded some temp monitor utilities only to find out that it was hovering around 87c on the CPU!! Then upon doing more research on this very site, I found that there is supposed to be a fan working, and clearly mine did not work at all!
I was so mad! So I contacted Ecost to return it and they tell me: "Dear Valued Customer,
    Thank you for visiting eCOST.com.
We received the request for Return Authorization for the HP Mini 311-1037NR 1.60GHz Intel. Please be advised that we are in strict policy that should you find problems with the HP unit, DOA or defective, you are to contact the Manufacturer (HP) directly."
So I contacted HP and created a support ticket, they shipped me out an overnight fedex box that arrived the next morning, I thought great, this should be quick... I avidly check my Repair Status on HP and they say it will be returned on the 30th of April, only 6 days from when it was received. About 5 days in I notice that my status had not changed, so I called support up and they told me there is a delay on a part and 2 calls later and one request to bump it up to a Case Manager, they update my status to this: "Hewlett-Packard is awaiting the arrival of a part to complete your product repair.
    Expected Delivery Date:05/14/2010"
THREE FRIGGIN WEEKS!?!? So today I finally talk to a Case Manager on the phone after returning her call, Nice lady named Jeanette or Jennifer (I think) tells me that there's nothing they can do in terms of shipping me out another refurb/new unit but she will talk to the service department to try and escalate the repair and let them know it is a high priority repair.
So now I'm sitting here, without my Mini, not even 1 hours worth of use, with 10 more days to go ALSO with the chance of it being delayed yet again...
This is ridiculous, how does HP techs miss the fact that the fan is not even working, what kind of half-assed diagnostics do they do???? And how is a simple 20 minute fan replacement job taking over 3 weeks to fix, all because of a backorder.
I really, really hope this case manager pulls through for me.
HP needs to really get their QC in check.
    /end rant

    *FINAL UPDATE!!*
Just got off the phone with Jennifer my case manager, who did an amazing job. I'm getting a brand new HP Mini 311-1037 spec for spec match as my old one send to me in a few days! It's confirmed, the 2 and a half week wait was worth it.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have an extra battery as well And a 1gb stick of DDR 1066 to sell (if anyone is interested)
Hp support was a little gruesome on the wait times, but in the end I am a happy satisfied customer. Thanks HP!

  • Mini 311-1000 HSDPA modem

Can anyone tell me what internal HSDPA modem is compatible with the HP Mini 311-1000?
In particular, I'd like to use SIERRA MC8775 HS2300 but cannot identify if this is supported or not?

SATA-II drives will work in SATA-I systems and vice versa so that is not an issue. As far as the rpms I usually tell people not to worry about using a 7200 rpm drive but the fact is they do run just a bit hotter and take a little more juice which is bigger factor in a netbook. HP offers a 500 gig 5400 rpm drive as an option so I am sure you would have no issues with a 500 gig 5400 rpm SATA -I or -II drive and I can't say the same on a 7200 rpm drive.

  • Sound click skip stutter mini 311

I upgraded my Hp Mini 311 from Win 7 Home Premium to Win7 Pro.
Since then every audio track I have skips EXACTLY 20 seconds from the end of a track (just like a dirty cd) regardless of the track length. I'm also unable to restore the mini to factory defaults, and I can't get a reply from Hp customer support for  restore disks or help or warranty, despite many attempts.
I tried a fix in another thread which was unsuccessful.
    So far I have:
    *Checked RAM/CPU usage.
    *Removed all possible conflicting programs
    *Reinstalled drivers
    *Removed all drivers
    *Used windows generic drivers
    *Used different media players
*Enabled/Disabled all enhancements and exclusive rights to sound devices.
    *Used different media player programs
    *Rebuilt the media library
*Played media from different devices such as a network and USB
*Re-installed the OS (Restoring the Original OS no longer works) - I would kill if someone could help me get hold of restore disks please!
    *De fragmented ALL drives
*Put media players as priority processes
*Sacrificed virgins to the Great Cthulu
    * Cleaned the windows registry
Please, for the love of god and all that is holy, someone help me!

I found a solution on myhpmini.com I've posted it below for anyone else with this problem:
Here's a quick guide to fix the stuttering problem.
    * Disclaimer * I take no responsibility if this fubars your Mini. Do this at your own discretion.
Open Control Panel -> Device Manager. Go to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Choose the Nvidia nForce Serial ATA Controller.
Go to the Driver tab. Click Update Driver. Choose Browse my computer for driver software. Click Let me pick from list of device drivers.
Select the Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller. Click Next, Okay, or whatever it asks for, and you're done.
The computer will need to reboot twice - once for the controller, and a second time to redetect the hard drive.
    Cheers!

  • HP Mini 311 + PCIE slot (pref SSD)

    Hello,
I would like to know what the available upgrades are for the PCIE slot that is in the HP mini 311. I would also like to know if the PCIE slot can be used for an SSD. If so, what kind/brand/model/size.
    Thank you,

I contacted HP support on chat for this same question.  Aparently its only used for a WWAN card for mobile wireless coverage.  I figured maybe install a HD encoder to play HD movies better but hp support says no.  Might try anyway lol
