  • MSI Z68A GD-65 (B3) With i5 2500K and 280X, No POST

    Hello to the MSI Community!
I have a problem that I'm hoping someone might have a solution to. I recently installed a Powercolor R9 280X video card onto an MSI Z68A GD-65 (B3) motherboard running the V22.8 BIOS running an i5 2500K processor.
The problem is that when I try to boot up the computer with the 280X installed, the fans spin up, but there is no POST and no indication that the computer is trying to boot.
The GPU that was installed in the computer up until a short while ago (and is back in there right now) is an AMD 6950. That card is working fine with the motherboard, so I don't think its a MB issue. As for the 280X, that card ran fine on a 7 year old ABIT 975X board I had it running in for a couple days, so the video card is fine.
Perusing other posts in the forum, I came across another person who had encountered the same problem. They were able to resolve this issue by flashing the BIOS to V23.8b8:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=175513.msg1272440#msg1272440
Would anyone know where I could get a copy of this BIOS, or possibly know of a better BIOS that would resolve the problem with the video card as well as be the most advanced BIOS available while still being compatible with the 2500K? (As I understand it, the later BIOS' for the Z68A GD-65 don't necessarily play nicely with Sandy Bridge processors)
If someone has a copy of a BIOS that would work, either the one referenced in that other forum post or possibly a newer one, I would be much obliged.
Please let me know if I need to provide any more information.
I appreciate any assistance anyone can provide.
    Thanks!

Indeed using an Ivy Bridge (ME8) bios on B3 boards can limit oc potential when using a Sandy Bridge cpu (0% problem if not overclocking). However using a current vgas will require using an ME8 bios. So you can decide not to use 280X or update to an ME8 bios. It is recommended to update to the latest bios (25.8), it might even eliminate most Sandy problems.
To update use the attached bios archive and the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
With the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< point to the attached and NOT unpacked bios archive (Mode 1: Point to Archive).
Let the tool prepare an USb stick for flashing and reboot from the stick and let the tool update bios. It will flash to the desired version 25.8.

Please don't keep posting the same question in multiple topics.
Before you even consider overclocking, you should ensure your system is stable at stock settings. Also you'd be foolish to attempt a BIOS update on an unstable system.
Please read the >>Posting Guide<<, describe your problem in detail, and then we can help you better.

  • GT60 0N* 51x Bios Mod for SSE ?

it is possible to modify the BIOS so that recognizes the SteelSeries Engine software, the backlight keyboard by SteelSeries? The software you can actually use until the 2P * series ... The harware (keyboard) itself is the same.
I do not think that the problem the hardware is, because of the 2O * Series does not support SSE, but the 2P and 2Q * series, and the motherboard is the same like the 2O* Series (MS-16F4)
    i use now the 51x Bios & T18 EC Firmware on my MS-16F31 Motherboard in a MSI GT70 0NC Chassie with a GTX770M and a i7-2670QM

  • REQ - MSI U270 BIOS mod with unlocked UEFI option

Hi guys, I'm new to this board.
I've searched everywhere and couldn't find any MSI U270 BIOS mods. I'm trying to upgrade to the Windows 8 BIOS, but since the update package can only be used under UEFI mode, I'd have to enable UEFI in my BIOS. BUT, there isn't an option to do that, and there isn't a DOS version of the BIOS update either.
    Thanks in advance.

unlocked bios won't help you with this

  • GT70 20D bios update gone horribly wrong

Hi, I have never ran into issues like this previously, due to a number of problems with issues like the Dragoon software not detecting fan speeds, a number of the MSI apps saying unable to read from BIOS I decided to update the BIOS following the MSI instructions to the letter with the latest update up on the MSI site for the laptop. Well it didn't go well.
Hoping someone can help, my laptop is the GT70 20D with raid 0 configured running windows 8.1 pro, laptop was built with Windows 8 from factory. I booted into the BIOS and performed the UEFI update following these instructions. msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf
I got to stage 12 and the laptop itself powered down and restarted (It didnt get to stage 13 onwards and actually flash it) on the restart I simply get the hard drive light flash once, black screen and nothing. Please help I am in the UK and will be contacting MSI UK during office hours and suspect this might need a RMA but wanting to cover everything myself first, I work in IT and have performed this sort of thing plenty of times in the past and slightly annoyed at the min lol.

Just got my GT70-20D back from MSI after a bad flash, took 27 days in total
I had to pay as they stated that bios is classed as software and not covered by warranty!
you had to pay?  is that a joke?
If you flash from their official guide do everything correctly and you brick it because their bios is faulty or motherboard and you have topay for it?
Wow, that is the most insane thing I have ever heard

  • Request MSI GX640 UEFI boot bios mod

Hello I was wondering if someone could help me re-enable the UEFI Boot option in the latest MSI GX640 bios version E1656IMS.10F
Also is it possible to add SSD support in AHCI mode as well, because currently I can not get an ssd to boot in that mode. It only works in IDE mode for some reason.
I would also like it to be fully unlocked.
    Thank you!

Alright cool. The reason I asked about the UEFI Boot feature is because it was enabled in the original BIOS, but they disabled the feature in a BIOS update because when the feature was enabled it would cause the system to hang when booting from a CD/DVD.
I bought this Dell AMD HD 7970m GPU for my GX640 and I found out that it is a UEFI card that doesn't have a legacy vBIOS, and after I installed it, my laptop would not post and I got a black screen. I was thinking that if I had that UEFI Boot feature back, then my computer would boot with the GPU installed in it. Please correct me if I am wrong, and please let me know if some sort of BIOS mod would make this GPU work in my GX640.

  • Turbo mode MSI GT70

I recently upgraded to a 256GB SSD as my main drive on my MSI GT70, I installed windows 7 64bit and reinstalled all the drivers and programs from the MSI notebook disc and the ones i could find on the website.
Now my Turbo button does nothing, when i touch it the light comes on but it doesn't go into to overclock mode and the light shuts off after about 2-3 seconds...
Are there more drivers i need for this feature? If so where can i get them?...
    Thank you.

It's crap compared to any decent overclock tool - for instance MSI afterburner. Actually I never saw an overclock tool that underclocks the default GPU clock if the turbo button isn't pressed.
This is no different than EVGA or PNY offering the same video cards but with slightly different clocks, and $50 difference in price.
Say what you want, it's nice since it's included, and you don't pay extra for it. It's not MEANT to replace MSI Afterburner (which btw, is not for mobile video cards.....but many do use it that way). Not every user is going to want to push their core clock up to 850 MHz using MSI Afterburner, or even higher. Most users could care less. Some users want more (I run mine actually at around 1 GHz), and you can still get there with this if you know what you're doing.
Now, if you don't have anything further to help solve this users problem, please refrain from posting.
As far as this user's problem, have you installed the VGA Overclock application as well? If that isn't installed, then the turbo button will not function properly.

  • MSI GE70-2PL WoL available with hidden BIOS?

Hi I've recently bought an GE70-2PL Apache and with my new desk setup I kinda need Wake-on-Lan for the setup to be convenient....  Are these settings typically available under hidden settings and is my BIOS patch-able?
    BIOS Version E175AIMS.10H
    EC Version 175AEMS1 Ver5.05
    ME FW Version 9.0.30.1482
(I've double and triple checked these so they should be correct.)
I updated to the latest version today hoping something simple like that might get included in an update but nooooo.  I've just come from a mid range Toshiba laptop which had this (not that I used it  ) and am quite confused as to why MSI doesn't make these options available. Especially on super high-end devices too.
Anyway, respect  to Svet for being able to offer BIOS mods.

Thanks for the link I'll go through the Network adapters settings in Windows and see if can be enabled from there.
There is one thing I'm pretty sure I will need a modbios for. Once I've got WoL setup I'll need the bios and my grub boot loader to show on the external display/s however... Currently it seems to default to the internal display always which is not what I'm used to. :| And not helpful when using as a surrogate desktop. :/

  • MSI A4000-068US BIOS MOD REQUEST

As was done with the A5000 recently(https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=132858.0), i was wondering if the same could be done with the A4000. basically some of the requests included:
Reverse/swap the notebook keys functions of the "Fn" key with Left "Ctrl" key like you have done with other models.  I would also like to know if you could enable us to change the GPU Frame Buffer Size from the fixed 256MB to a user selectable 32MB - 512MB like other notebook manufacturers have done with this Nvidia chipset.  Any other performance options such as making FSB-Memory Ratio or Memory Clock user selectable in BIOS would be awesome!  additionally if there was a way to undervolt CPU to extend batt life would be great as well.
    thanks for all your help
