BIOS Options Suggestions

Hi,
I own a MSI DKA790GX Platinum motherboard and would like to know what are the best settings for my BIOS.
There are C1E, HPET and SVM which I don't fully understand. Which one of these should I enable or disable?
Thanks in advance.

Enable all of them.
C1E - Enhanced CPU power saving
HPET - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Precision_Event_Timer
SVM - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86_virtualization#AMD_virtualization_.28AMD-V.29
Thanks. I did.

  • X61s BIOS Options

Is there anyone out there know the best setup options or pros/cons of the BIOS options recomended for X61s? I couldn't find any documentation. Processors L7500 and L7700 combined with Centrino Pro provides performance and security enhancements but I noticed some of these options were turned off in Default BIOS settings. Anyone has any recomendations?
    Thanks and Regards

    Hello,
That happens cause you probably have that server´s Service Profile bounded to a Updating Template, which means that whatever change you apply to a Service Profile (associate to that template) will change the same to others.
If you want to make that change, then go to the server in question, "General" tab and then click on the Service Profile name (looks like a hyperlink).  In the "General" tab for the Service Profile (cause there will be a pop window for the Service Profile), you will read something about a warning telling you that it belongs to a template.
Unbind it and make the changes.  If you want to do the change for all of the servers associated to the same template, then do NOT unbind the template, but make the change on the template/Service Profile itself instead and it will propagate to the rest of the servers.  Use Caution though, multiple servers can be affected if you are not conscious of what you are doing.
Check here, Slide 31 you will find a nice explanation in case you don´t what I mean when I am talking about templates.

  • BIOS option to "permanently disable" Computrace

    Hi,
In the T500 BIOS Setup is the option:
    Security:Computrace: Computrace Module Activation
    with 3 possible values:
    Enabled (default?)
    Disabled
    Permanently Disabled
I think I understand how Computrace BIOS works: on boot the BIOS checks and makes sure the necessary drivers/services are present in the OS filesystem before the supported OS boots. The Computrace service then runs "hidden" in the OS and periodically phones home.
What I'd like to know is what happens if I select the BIOS option "Permanently Disabled". Is the Computrace checker/loader deleted from the BIOS? Is it possible to ever turn Computrace back on at a later date, perhaps by flashing the BIOS?
    Thanks,
    Frank

This field lets you Activate or Disable the BIOS module interface of the optional Computrace(R) Service from Absolute(R) Software. The Computrace agent from Absolute Software is a service solution designed to help track assets and provide recovery services in the event the notebook is lost or stolen. The Computrace agent communicates with the Absolute Software Monitoring Server at programmed intervals to provide the tracking service. By activating the service, you consent to the transmission of information from and to your computer and the Absolute Software Monitoring Server. The Computrace service is purchased as a separate option and the monitoring Server will enable its agent security module through an interface provided by the BIOS. The Computrace tracking agent can only be used in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Computrace(R) and Absolute(R) are registered trademarks of Absolute Software Corporation.
Disable = Permanently block the Computrace module interface.
Deactivate = Block the Computrace module interface (default).
Activate = Permit the Computrace module interface.
The Absolute Anti-Theft solution is presently Deactivated. Note that the Activate or Disable options will permanently Activate or Disable the feature and no further changes will be allowed.
Also, if people are wondering about the service - for home users you can get info here: http://www.lojackforlaptops.com/learnmore.asp
For all of the software solutions - the info is here: http://www.absolute.com/
do you have renter's or home owners insurance? if so, it isn't worth it.
second, it only works if someone is going to use it on the internet.
third, you should read the terms for recovery http://www.absolute.com/PDF/EULA.pdf
which means that even if they recover the lappie, they do not cover the fact that it may be damaged or data lost. you must also always have it automatically loaded to connect regularily...if you are travelling and using dial up that may mean extra phone expenses. once lappie is located, the cops have to get the lappie...if it is outside recovery territory, your loss. it is recovery and not insurance in case of theft. and the nice catcher that if you didn't take precautions to safeguard against the theft, then it doesn't guarantee the recovery nor pay the $1000 if they cannot recover it (para 8.9). another important note, is that $1000 is max, and decreases annually (para 9).
    prices are:
LoJack for Laptops - 4 year term US$119.99
LoJack for Laptops - 3 year term US$99.99
LoJack for Laptops - 2 year term US$79.99
LoJack for Laptops - 1 year term US$49.99
if you have insurance, i think it is absurd to buy these things. it is like buying lojack for a car, rather useless.

  • KT4VL bios options?

OK, Thinking about getting this board.  KT4VL
Does NE1 know what the bios options are for voltage, FSB and multiplier?  Are they for sure the same as the KT4 Ultra or are they different?
    Thanks

In the KT4VL manual, I found the following:
    Overclocking:
This motherboard is designed to support overclocking.
However, please make sure your components are able to toler-ate
such abnormal setting, while doing overclocking. Any at-tempt
to operate beyond product specifications is not
recommended. We do not guarantee the damages or risks
caused by inadequate operation or beyond product
    specifications."
    CPU FSB Clock
This item allows you to select the CPU Front Side Bus clock frequency (in
MHz) and overclock the processor by adjusting the FSB clock to a higher
frequency. Select the number between 100~280 for needed frequency.
    CPU Ratio/Vcore (V)
The settings are used to adjust the CPU clock multiplier (ratio) and CPU
corevoltage (Vcore). These settings offer users a tool to overclock the system.
    DDR Voltage (V)
Adjusting the DDR voltage can increase the DDR speed. Any changes made
to this setting may cause a stability issue, so changing the DDR voltage for
    long-term purpose is NOT recommended.
    Termination Vol (V)
The settings are used to adjust the termination voltage. Setting options:
    Auto, 1.27, 1.29.
    AGP Voltage (V)
AGP voltage is adjustable in the field, allowing you to increase the perfor-mance
of your AGP display card when overclocking, but the stability may be
    affected. Setting options: Auto, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8.
    SDRAM Frequency
Use this item to configure the clock frequency of the installed SDRAM.
    Settings options: 200MHz, 266MHz, 333MHz, 400MHz, Auto.
    SDRAM CAS# Latency
This controls the timing delay (in clock cycles) before SDRAM starts
    a read command after receiving it. Settings: 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3.0 (clocks).
2 (clocks) increases the system performance the most while 3 (clocks)
    provides the most stable performance.
Load High Performance OverClocking feature is there too...
So it seems this board has the required bios features for some decent overclocking...You could also put a fan on the northbridge...
I bought that board and will compare it with my ultra-aru and keep the winner
This KT4VL is at a killer price of $85 in the US right now - can't get a better deal with audio 6ch and ethernet 10/100 onboard

  • Hidden BIOS options NOT gone with 1.4x

I noticed a post a while ago that mentioned the hidden BIOS options for the K8N Neo (and family) have been removed in 1.4x.  I didn't notice any post afterwards mentioning that they are not gone, so I figured I'd share how to get access to them incase anyone cares.
The exact key combination I'm not sure about, because it's kind of odd the way you get them to appear.  What I do is (while in the BIOS obviously) press Alt+F1, Control+F1, Shift+F1, Alt+F2, Control+F2, Shift+F2, then Alt+F3.  I've tried this in 1.42, 1.45, 1.47 and 1.48, and it works in them all.  It should probably work for the others as well too.

  • How to disable sound card on A20m...Is there a BIOS option?

I'm trying to use an after market sound card but I think I'm having conflicts even when disabling the Crystal sound in the device manager.  Anyway to disable it in the Bios?

    Welcome to the forum!
There is no BIOS option for disabling the sound card, but you can:
    a) Un-install the drivers for it and see if it helps.
    b) Change the IRQ setting to see whether that removes the conflict you were referring to.
Good luck and let us know.

  • Satellite A665-147 - How to unlock BIOS option?

    Hello,
I have a A665-147 and i want to change cpu voltage and other things to improve my battery life.
But in the BIOS you can do nothing . I remember on my old PC you could unlock advanced mode by pressing alt+F1.
    Could anyone help me ?
Sorry for my english i'm french

There is big difference between BIOS options on desktops and notebooks. In notebook BIOS you will find pretty general options. Due to specific design and construction I presume that notebook manufacturers dont allow too much control over installed hardware. They just want to prevent eventual damage that can be caused by changing certain BIOS options.
You want to reduce power consumption but other people want to have more powerful machine.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR - RAID BIOS Option ???

    hi ho,
i have my 2 storage devices pluged into the promise 376 onboard controller. they are not connected as a real raid (not mirror nor real stripe). my OS is win2k on the first sata device and everything was fine for a long time.
but now when my system boots, it detects the ide drives and then i see the irq board.
right after that the system stops and tells me 'disk boot failure'. so i don`t get the chance to configure my raidcontroller or my sata devices.
it is as the controller is deactivated. i remember a bios version where you could activate and deactivate the sata controller. but in my bios (right now it is v7.8) there is no such option.
    i have tested so far:
    - reset cmos
    - flash bios v7.5 to 7.8
    - disconnected sata drives
anyone with similar problems or any suggestion?
    > MoBo : K7N2 Delta-ILSR Bios v7.8
    > CPU   : AMD Barton 2500+ (not overclocked)
    > Ram  : TwinMos 1GB 3200 400Mhz

    > OS    : win 2000 SP4 + Security Updates 31.07.04 + DirectX 9.0c

watch the bottom of the screen after pressing Enter on the "Welcome to Setup" screen. There will be some moments of files being loaded, and then you should see a message appear which says "Press F6 if you need to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver". This message will only stay on the screen for a couple of seconds, so press F6 as soon as you see it appear. After this is done, you will see other messages appear, and it will act as though nothing is happening, but eventually a screen will appear which will allow you to install the drivers for the sata controller.
specify a device press S, select "win 2000 promise fasttrak 376 controller" it will read floppy and load, dot not remove floppy yet, continue win2000 install it may nead to access floppy to finish installing raid driver, did you do it like this.
try making some floppy boot disks and boot to floppy instead of cd.
    http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml
when you say there not listed, where did you see this? they wont be listed, windows will search for fasttrak controller so it will see sata's conected to it with out you knowing, so long as you load the controller from floppy that came with mobo as above.

  • HP ENVY K204TX - BIOS Options to change to RAID0

HI, I had recently purchased a HP ENVY 15 K204TX
I replaced the DVD rom with a second HDD Caddy with a 1TB drive. Now the notebook comes with a 1TB installed.I want to RAID the two HDD's for performance, So I went into the BIOS for options. But there was nothing there ! I couldnt believe a premium HP laptop came in with such a DUMB BIOS ( Insyde or something ) ! This company is going Dumb and Dumber ... I was an HP fan, I had a probook before this. But this is absurd !!! No options in the BIOS !
Now there is my problem ! How can i use my second HDD in RAID0 ? I dont want Software RAID. I want Hardware RAID, Its an 90k laptop and am pretty sure it supports it too. But where are the options ?
Should I get the HP guys to do it for me or is there a way for us to do it ?

    Hi,
Yes, you can use SSD in the HDD slot. There are many sizes (capacity) now and you can have up to ove 900Gb. My suggestion use SSD from around 480Gb to 520Gb. Many brands are around: Samsung, Sandisk, Kingston, Intel .... Except for OZ and Kingston which I have not tried, they are all good.
    Regards.

  • R835-P56X: Bios Options - Intel (R) AT and AT Suspend?

I was poking around in the BIOS for my R835-P56X and found a couple options that I haven't seen before:
    Intel (R) AT
    Intel (R) AT Suspend
I can't find any discussion of these options in the User's Guide (which doesn't cover the BIOS except for what can be changed with the HWSetup utility).
Does anyone know what they do?

The question would be if it translates into real gains in real world applications. You should test some 3D game or something to see if the performance is really great or just the same as usual. glxgears is quite a useless benchmark by itself (though it's good news that you get 3000 fps anyway).
