  • M30: BIOS password: never set but now asking for a password

I've never set my BIOS password before on my Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop.
However i have just switched it on, and the laptop is asking me for a password.
Does anyone know why this is so?
I am not asking on how to hack it - but just wondering what the hell is going on!

    Hi Daniel,
The BIOS password(s) are stored on the CMOS chip itself, and the normal procedure for resetting them (if the password is not known) is to fully reset the CMOS chip contents.
Although this sounds pretty straight-forward the problem is that the password information is stored in a non-volatile part of the chip so that the normal BIOS reset techniques do not affect it. Techniques such as disconnecting the CMOS battery in order to remove all user information will also not work.
ASPs use a special device for resetting the CMOS chip contents although some repairers will opt to change the mainboard where they do not have the necessary equipment available.

  • Satellite P - After Windows 7 the BIOS password is set

After I installed Windows 7, I tried to enter the BIOS, but found the proposal to enter a password. I did not put a password on the BIOS and do not know the password. After buying a month ago the password was not exactly. It can somehow change or reset?
Maybe this is not because of Windows 7?
(translate with Google, sorry for English)

    Hi
First of all what notebook you have exactly?
Normally if you install another OS the BIOS password will not set and generally BIOS passwords will not be set automatically.
I dont know how it happened but BIOS passwords can be removed from an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba you can search for one. Call them and explain the situation. Im sure that they will help you and remove the BIOS.

  • Set BIOS Password during SCCM 2012 Task Sequence

    Hi,
I search a solution for this problem.
I want to set a BIOS password during my unattended installation in the SCCM Task Sequence.
I know the Lenovo BIOS instructions:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/script.zip
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/crdeploy_en.pdf
With this you can change the BIOS settings during installation and you can change a BIOS password.
But not set a new one, if they do not have a password, on a new laptop!!?
I would not necessarily do it manually on +200 new laptops how can I solve this?
e.g. HP have a simple solution with the BIOSUtilityTool
    thanks
    best regards

We believe allowing a scripted method of setting a BIOS password without a root of trust is a security vulnerability.  For that reason we only allow changing a BIOS password via scripted means and the current password has to be provided.  We do provide a service in manufacturing for setting the initial password to a known value which you could then use in a script to change to a more secure value.

  • Sccm 2007 during image deployment set system bios password

    Dear Exprt,
How to set bios password during imaging windows
    [email protected]

ConfigMgr contains no facilities to do this as ConfigMgr does not manage hardware.
You can however use a tool from the hardware to do this and of course run that tool using a run command line task in the task sequence to do this. This is all contingent on the tool from the vendor though; e.g., Dell has a toolset called the CCTK that does
this and which many folks use during the task to before BIOS level configurations: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/1952.dell-client-configuration-toolkit-cctk.aspx

  • Bios password lost

i have an toshiba with windows 7, somebody has put a password in the bios, and nodoby knows about that password, what i have to do?

Thats not completely accurate, there are some models that have a known bios glitch where a password can be spontaneously set.  Customer service would know if their system was one of those, and if so the reset would be free, and the service center would also update the bios so that it would not be likely to happen again.
They did not give their model number, so there was no way to check on that possibility myself.

  • Administrator Bios Password won't work on HP 4420s XT940UT#ABA Windows 7 64 Bit

Someone please help me with this!!
I bought this laptop from a friend (have a receipt) who sold it to me because the screen was cracked and all spidered out when you turned it on. Well everywhere he went to ask about getting the screen fixed it was very expensive ($250 - $350) and he said he would just get a newer laptop. So he sold me this one which is a HP4420s XT940UT#ABA Probook Model. About a week after I bought this Probook the friend who sold it to me died suddenly. This was sudden and terrible. Some time later I got around to buying the LCD screen for this model, replaced it myself (was very easy actually) and booted up the laptop with a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro edition 64 Bit. After installing all my software and using the laptop for quite some time now, I wanted to get into the Bios which I had never done. So when I started up the laptop, hit escape, then F10 to enter BIOS, there were two places to enter a password which is different then any Dell I've ever owned. One was mine I guees that I set up using HP protect tools and the other says BIOS/Administrator. Well I can make most changes using the one I set up with my password however my password doesn't work nor can I get into some of the very important changes I wanted to make using the Bios/Administrator, like turning on the LoJack, figuring out the hard disk lock etc, turning on turbo boost, fan controls, etc. Well Since the person I bought it from is no longer with us, there is no one to turn to for the answer to this Administrator/BIOS password question / problem.  I tried taking out the Rtype battery and resetting it that way, didn't work. I called HP multiple times and they sent me to a BIOS page to download the same BIOS I have already, wouldn't let me install it. When I bring up the command prompt and put in BiosConfigureUtility.exe nothing happens, just tells me wrong command. When I try to get into the BIOS going through the C: file into the SSM files, I reach the BiosConfigUtility.exe file, click on it to open and it just flashes a small command page way to fast to read what it says. I would like to have complete control over my laptop figuring I have so much time and money invested into it now. Could the problem have something to do with installing the 64 bit version of Windows 7 instead of the 32 bit I guess it originally came with? I have all the manuals and they say that this laptop is Windows 7 Pro Ultimate 64 bit compatible so that's what I installed. I get mixed answers from a lot of different people on this and would like a answer from an HP person who has experience dealing with the BIOS in the Business models of Probooks if possible please. I really like this Probook and have since became a major fan of HP over Dell and Lenovo products.  I plan to buy two more probooks, one for my wife and one for my daughter because this one is like a MacBook, only better.  Thank you for reading this and hopefully someone can help.
    Model: HP Probook 4420s

once you log a support case with HP customer care, they will provide you once utility and steps to run it. which can capture the UUID. BTW- UUID is a unique ID for each machine (16 or more digits) stored in BIOS itself.
Once the utility results(UUID and other info) in the log file, shared with HP. they can generate a key file(SMC) to reset.
well, Technical support depertment can help you in it, no need to ask for any specific person or department.
    hope it helps.

    hi..i have a problem...
    i have a laptop Toshiba SATELLITE A100-528 PSAA2E-01H00WGE....
the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
.the thing is that i don't know what the password is...i boot up my pc and it don't let me get in windows if i don't type the password.....is there any way to remove the password ??
it does not let me either boot from a cd or usb....i press F12 in order to choose to boot from cd or usb but it's still asks for the unknown password....is there any solution ??
    please answer it's critical !!
    thank you very much...

    >the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
    >.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
Thats weird because the BIOS or Supervisor password can be reset only by an authorized service provider.
The BIOS password is a high security option which cannot be reset easily.
So ONLY ASP can remove a UNKNOWN password.

  • What is the BIOS Password on my Satellite A100-376?

    Hello!
Yesterday I made a BIOS update of my Toshiba Satellite A100-376 (PSAAR) to version 5.90-WIN. Everything went ok but now when I'am trying to enter BIOS Setup by pressing F2 in start, the BIOS ask me for a password but I don't know what it is because I don't have any. What's the problem? Is anything wrong? Please help me.
    Thank you!
    Tiago

    Hi there,
you are sure you didnt set a BIOS password or some of your friends/relatives? Because this is impossible that a BIOS update is setting a password. My friend has a Satellite A100-778, so he did the same update you did and he has no problems.
Maybe you should just tap "Enter" when trying to enter the BIOS. Otherwise I would say make the update again and then try to find out who set the password. :)

  • Cisco Server VCS C220 M3 Server BIOS password issue

We have a Cisco Server VCS C220 M3 Server BIOS password issue.
We needed to turn on Bit locker in the Cisco Server VCS C220. To do this we needed to create an administrator password for the BIOS to turn on trusted Platform Module (TPM). After we set up the administrator password and turn on Security for TPM. We were prompted for the administrator password. It would not let us log in with the administrator password that we created for the BIOS. In the next few days we received a BIOS is corrupted screen (BIOS Flash Image Corrupted *****).We follow procedures to recover the BIOS with the USB stick with recovery .cap file in the root folder. We tried reseating the jumper pg. 35 of the Cisco Server VCS C220 M3 Server of the Installation and Service Guide.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C220/install/C220.pdf
We were able to bring up the server, but we are still not able to get pass the Admin password issue. We tried to clear the CMOS header with Header J37 page 2-18 but we had no success with clearing out the password prompt. Figure 2-6 Service Header Locations shows the J41 BIOS RCVR boot and J37 Clear CMOS.
Can anyone provide us documentation of where the pins are located on the motherboard to clear the BIOS password? We are looking for more of a detail picture of the pins please. The documentation is only showing a basic diagram of the header locations.

You need to look at the CUCM logs for further info on what might have happened, and to make sure your servers are fit for the amount of users, devices, etc. you have in your environment.

Is it possible to reset a Macbook Pro (purchased early 2010) bios password? I am trying to boot from a DVD, but seem to have forgotten my password. I know on other hardware, you can pull the CMOS battery, but I have found no documentation for this on a macbook pro.  Thanks.
