BIOS problems with 7030 - powering off?

I just tried to flash the new 2.1 BIOS for Neo Platinum and it failed with a checksum error in the windows flash program.
I made a boot disk with the award flash and the 2.1 / 1.9 binary and autoexec.bat as per bios rescue instructions.  The disk boots on another machine but on the broken one it reads the first 5 spins and then powers off.  There are no beeps and I tried disconnecting all USB / IDE / SATA cables.
If I unplug the floppy drive it beeps, complains about no floppy then powers off.
If I don't put the floppy disk in the drive - it boots, complains about no system disk then powers off.
I tried resetting the CMOS with the cable unplugged but I still get the same problem.
The only component left to remove is my Nvidia 6800 (AGP).
Messages on the screen:
Award Bootblock Bios v1.0
BIOS ROM CHECKSUM ERROR
Detecting floppy drive A media
Drive media is 1.44...   [wait about 2 seconds - powers off]
Can anyone explain why it is powering off and how I could fix this?
Thanks,
Graham

Thanks Kwea for giving me some hope!
I just found this thread:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=89737.0
I will try this evening with the memory and AGP card removed.  Fingers crossed...

  • Problems with a powered Belkin hub

Can anyone tell me whether there's it's normal to have problems with externally-powered hubs plugged into a macbook or with certain hubs? Mine is a Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 4-port P5U234. (I don't think the following problem ever happened in my old iMac G4 days, at least.)
The problem: I need the hub to run on external power because some of my devices won't run through the hub without it. But with the external power connected, the hub doesn't work properly on system startup (or restart). i.e. the hub is obviously getting power (it's red external power indicator light is on), yet none of the green lights for the attached devices are on and some or all of the devices aren't getting power (e.g. RF mouse won't work and there's a dialog saying it doesn't have enough power).
I can remove the external power cable before shutdown or restart, in which case all the green device lights are on at startup - but again the mouse won't work because of not enough power.
My workaround -- which I resignedly perform every morning before work <sigh!!> -- is to unplug the external power and plug it back in again about a second later.
I've been doing this for some months now (and every day I think 'surely this shouldn't be necessary!!'). It's bearable, but also hazardous to my data. This is because my external HD (with my TM backup) is one of the devices attached to the hub. I only need to be slightly distracted or half-awake, and I can accidentally remove the HD while mounted. I think I've probably already done this enough times despite my best efforts not to; and I'm getting regular bitmap errors from TTP on that drive.
So my questions ... Is this kind of USB hub behaviour normal generally? Or normal with macbooks generally? Or normal with certain specific hubs generally? Is there any way to stop it happening? Is there another brand/ model of hub that wouldn't behave this way with my system configuration?
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Kappy.
So you're saying it's definitely abnormal behaviour? And no USB hub should do this with a macbook? Yes?
(BTW returning would never have been on. I got it 2/hand on ebay, and it's always worked flawlessly for me without external power. I didn't discover this issue until I added a device that needed the external power several months after I bought the hub.)
Just before I go and buy a new hub ... Can anyone else confirm or challenge Kappy's assessment? (Not doubting you, Kappy; just don't want to risk wasting more money!!)

I bought an iPhone 5 around fifteen days back and it has already started to give problem with the on/off button. I have to press it five six times to switch it on or off. I am so frustrated by the fact that if I bring it to the service centre, I am going to get a refurbished phone in place of my brand new phone which I just bought. Why?  Your current phone is used... it has been since the instant it was removed from the shrink wrap and turned on.

Live with the phone as is.
Take the device to Apple for evaluation... it may not need replacement.
Even if it does, neither you or the Apple tech should be able to tell if the replacement is new or refurbished.

  • Anyone having problems with the on/off switch

anyone having problems with the on/off switch. It sometimes does not work, I occasionally have to pull the plug out and replug then hit the button and it goes on?

Out of the 100+ millions of iPhone, I'm sure there are many people that have that same problem.  If you do, you have a 1 year warranty... take it in before it runs out.

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT4060 Battery drains with iPad powered  off

    Hello,
Battery drains even with ipad 2 powered off. And batterys since i use IO7 drains a lot faster even in airplane mode etc, etc.
    What can you tell me?
    Alejandro

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • A few bios problems with my 915p Neo2 platinum board

I'm wondering af anyone here can help me.
I just got a new system and a friend of mine helped set up the bios for me, afterwards he failed to tell me how he had configured the bios (my first big mistake).
Since the buidling of the system there have been 3 short beeps at the beginning of startup. I was told that it was a warning system of some sort and when i looked it up, the informations pointed towards a problem with the RAM.
I ran memtest86 and it found no problems with the RAM, so i contacted the site i bought the parts from and they suggested i reset the bios.
I did so and the beeps remained, but my DVD and DVD-writer drives arent being detected anymore.
I took my PC around to another friends house with only his keyboard and monitor connected. The beeping had stopped before we changed anything. Bringing it back around to my house resulted in the beeping returning.
From this i gathered that the only things different may have been his power source and the peripherals i have attached to the back of the case. (speakers, printer, kb/m, etc)
Going by the manual map, my 2 HDDs are connected as slave/master in IDE port 1 and my two DVD drives are connected to the yellow IDE port that is closest to IDE port 1 (it's either IDE 2 or 3, the map isnt too clear on which is which).
Long story short, can anyone help me in identifying the source of the beeps and their meaning, an optimum setup for my bios and how to get my DVD drives to work.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. I'm fairly new to building computers and my friends are the type to suddenly become unavailable as soon as a problem arises.
edit: just noticed i missed the spec description part menitoned in the rules.

second attempt at clearing up the garbled mess from above.
Motherboard is making 3 short beeps on startup. Indication of a problem with memory. I've established that it's something external that causing the beeps as the memory has checked out fine with memtest86. Hence i will be checking all the attached devices.
I was guided to reset the bios in an attempt to clear up this problem above. Doing so has resulted in my bios being unable to detect my DVD drives.
My DVD-drives are connected to IDE port 2/3 (manual is unclear on which is which).
Everything was in working order (with the exception of the beeping) before the bios was reset but due to my lack of knowledge/involvement with the original configuration of the bios, i'm at a loss as to how to fix it.
If anyone could recommend me any updates for the bios, or could advise me on how to configure my bios accordingly to the parts i have i would be most appreciative. Also, if osmeone would be abel to shed some light on the beeping issue i would be thankful also.

I saw this and was wondering if i should install it. It would be the equivelent of resetting the bios again wouldnt it? So it wouldnt be that much of a step back from where i am at the moment and it might be able to sort my IDE problems.

  • Peculiar problem with playing media off of an HFS+ partition

    Hi guys,
I have Arch Linux installed on my Macbook Pro, and I need to play the music and videos off of my HFS+ partition in Linux. I want to use VLC and Banshee, but both seem to be having problems with this.
    Here is the issue:
    1. I can read/write to the HFS+ partiton as a normal user
    2. I can play music and videos with mplayer off of that partition
    3. However, VLC will not open/play anything off of that partition
    4. Banshee marks the music files that I have imported from that partition with an 'X' when I try to play them and does not play them
    5. VLC and Banshee will play anything on my Linux partition (including the same file with the same permissions)
I can't seem to figure out why VLC and Banshee refuse to play anything off of that partition even though I have read/write permissions to it. Mplayer works fine, though.
    Please help!

  • Performance and bios problems with K8T

Hi,  I recently installed a new graphics card (6800 LE) but when I went to benchmark it the scores were way down, 6377 in 3dmark 03 and 28,421 in Aquamark, and that was after I had installed the latest bios and mobo drivers from MSI, unlocked the cards pipelines to 16 and shaders to 6, installed the latest XG Nvidia drivers (80.40 ) and checked about everything else I could think of.
I looked at RivaTuner and in the Northbridge info it said AGP status - disabled and in the Display Adaptor info, AGP status - disabled. In the bios the setting for AGP is greyed out ( or blued out ) so I am unable to set it to 8X or even check what it is set for.
Just to add the icing on the cake I now find that I can't get into bios with my existing keyboard as it's a USB model. I refitted my old ps2 keyboard and got into bios where I enabled the setting for legacy devices but there was no setting for usb 1.1 port 64/60 Emulation as listed in the manua.
Any assistance on any of these problems would be gratefully received. Tal

I reloaded the 4 in 1 drivers and the XG 80.40 graphics drivers and my bechmarks soared. Thank a lot Tiresmoke.

  • IPod Blue Case - anyone having problem with dye rubbing off on click wheel?

I purchased a new iPod 30gb a month ago and for some reason the blue due from the case supplied with the ipod has rubbed off in splotches on the click wheel of my ipod. I can't seem to remove it with anything.
Apple says this is a cosmetic thing they don't cover - I realize that but its a drag after only having it for such a short time.
Anyone else have this problem - suggestions or how to clean it off the click wheel?
    Thanks,

Unfortunately I had the same problem.my advice for all new users wash the cover carefully before using it!!!

  • BIOS Problem with 915P Combo

    Hi there...
I have one MB 915P Combo and i have problems in BIOS configuration.
I go to: Advanced BIOS Features / BOOT SEQUENCE
And have one option Boot from other Device, it have No.
I change to Yes, and reboot and now it is possible to use pen disks.
    The problem:
If i install a program and at the end of installation (for example update IDE/Raid utility) it is necessary to reboot windows , i restart the windows and when go to windows, now is not possible to use pen disks...
    To solve the problem temporaly:
It is necessary to go to the BIOS configuration and Change the Boot from other device to "No"  and reboot... and Change again to "Yes" to work with Pen disk.
And sometimes appears a blue window in Windows with a Device Driver error.
How to solve the problem ?
I have the latest BIOS 1.6
    Thanks.

What if you just normally reboot windows without any new installation? Does it happen the same way?

  • Problem with backlight timer Off

    Hi!
Just wanted to check if anybody had the same problem.
I've recently updated my iPod with the latest Updater (software version 1.1). Since that time, when the backlight timer is set to Off,it is impossible to switch the light on with pressed Menu key. When I press Menu for longer time nothing happens.
Was this feature disabled in the latest software of is it some kind of a bug?
    Thanks

    iPod Video Windows XP Pro

The only way I can think of to get the feature back is to "update" using an older updater, such as the one that came with your CD.
Reinstall the updater from the CD that came with your iPod would give you an older update that would contain the feature your looking for. Also using the "previous updaters" feature in the iPod folder on your computer would have the same effect. Update the iPod with one of these. However, bear in mind that newer features such as the volume limiter that are on the new 1.1.1 update would not be available.
