Bios reports 62 deg C cpu temp on XP2600/KT4A-V MB

Motherboard Monitor reports the same temp within a few degrees but the cpu doesn't seem very hot at all. This is happening on two similiar systems: same mb and cpu, 350W Antec power supply, 1 hard drive, 1 cd drive, and a 64mb GForce MX4000 AGP video card, 512mb memory.

1. HSF is installed correctly
2. I'm using a thin layer of Artic Silver.
3. One system has 2 sticks of Kingston 512mb and the other one has one stick of Micron 256mb.
But as I said in my original post, the cpus don't seem hot at all. I have another system with an MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR mb/XP3000. The CPU temp on the XP3000 is 46 deg C and it is noticeably warmer in that I can feel significantly hotter air coming off the CPU. So I'm wondering if MSI is reporting higher temp readings on the KT4A-V mbs because maybe the sensor is on the dioide and not the socket.

    Hello,
    I use a K7N2GM-L 6777 mobo with a amd 1800+ and a arctic copper silent 2tc.
the mobo isnt able to detect the right cpu temperature and cpu fan speed in bios.
    did anyone experienced that problem??
i already updated to the latest bios V1.6 but no change !!
the cpu temp is shown about 6°C/42°F and the fan speed is 0 rpm !!!
but the system temp is shown correctly (21°C/69°F (when i just started the system))
    any idea

    Hello!
It has been heard of before, yes, but your board is rather new so I don't think it has had an issue yet.
There is normally a sensor on the processor. If it does on your processor I can't say. If there isn't a sensor on the processor, or if it is covered with thermal grease, or otherwise damaged, BIOS and all programs that read BIOS data will be wrong.
Bit off: I'm speculating in that HSF, and I wonder how good and quiet it is. Been recommended by a store nearby.

  • Question regarding CPU temps and latest bios (1.8)

Hi, just build my first system using an MSI board. The K8N Neo2 Platinum with an A64 3500+ Venice. It came with bios version 1.5 and everything went smooth. Been running stable for a few days now. Cpu temps were anywhere from 38 (idle) to 50-54 under load. Though most of the time they were in the mid 40's. Which are acceptable temps.
Anyway, I just installed the latest bios tonight (1.8) and the reported temps have drooped significantly. Around 27c (idle), which is actually lower than the reported system temp (28c). One of the listed fixes for Bios 1.8 are cpu temps, but can these be correct? They seem very low. Which temps should I believe?
    Thanks

I'd believe the first bios's temps more than the second...
However what temps are given when using speed fan and/or everest? (in windows)

  • 990fxa gd80 cpu temp sensor?

My motherboard bios says my resting cpu temp (8350) is about 50 deg C.   My Windows program Speccy (by piriform) show the resting temp about 27 Deg C.
    Which one do I believe?????
If it is truly 27 deg C I will leave the stock cooler in.   But if it is 50 I may get a bigger CPU cool.
    Help?

I tried some other programs to read the temperature of the CPU.   They all read the same...different from the MB.  Much cooler.
I like the MSI board ok.   But their documentations and support, and bios screens, all stink.   The asus and asrock boards all have much better everything, except support.   I have never found manufacturer support of MBs any good except for "we know nothing about it, but we will replace it".
But this forum is pretty good.  Better than nothing.
    Thanks for the reply!

    Dear list,
b3 bios reports cpu temp 10c higher than b5 bios on k7n2 plat after reading posts that b3 is more stable changed back to that so far so good, seems more stable its just that cpu temp was 45-50 c on b5 bios but on b3 in the bios is says 60 c and in core center it now says 40c but was 70c before I re booted very odd indeed, its stable but soemtimes doesn't shutdown have to turn off but thats probely a widnows probelm somewhere.
    cheers

ps do I need to clear cmos when I have put new bios in or will it doit as part of the process ??

    dear os navi,
    yep
    http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/rs/a1889.htm
I got this one with a heat duct on it. yes its all seated well and clean, just downloaded a corecenter update, cleared the cmos and started again. I am now getting 44 c for the temp now. What the bios says I dont know, could be that I hadnt cleared the bios that the temp was reading wrong.
    cheers

K9n2 bios reading my cpu temps all wrong well actuly it not reading them at all my cpu AMD x2 5200 is said to be ideling at 26c but when i run a stress testor it stay at 26c so no change what so ever between load anf idle temps.
my cou core temps are wrong any way and all wasy have been core 0 idle at -2c and core 1 -22c but they have goe up to core 1 26c and core 2 8c load so its obviously geting hotter but the motherboard isant repoting that it is :/ i have used manny difforent programs and all came back with 26-27c for the cpu no mater what i do i have bios 3.3.
this never haped on my old ABIT kn9 sli it allways stated the corect cpu heat
ohh and also speed fan carnt recogise the cpu it just says temp 1,2,3 for the motherboard where as befor it was cpu, core, chip and so on (that was with old board)
    any sugestions
    sorry for spelling im dyslexic

well my cpu is back in my old motherboard with no problems at all no hard crashes and with the same ram timings the proper ram volts 2.1(msi board couldent handle 2.1v for ram) and the board only reports 26c no other temp used all temp programs and non of them changed when fully stresed only core temp showed any temp change but cart go buy that because my cores are so far off now on my old bard the temps go up and down like they should.
i did clear the CMOS whith all unpluged
all were at stock but ram voltage went to 1.8v so upped it to 2.1v (manual recomended) (wouldent start)
at stock if i restarted pc for somthing like an update it wouldent post unless it was un pluged at pluged back in (at stock)
and i have had no such problems with my old ASROCK board or my board im on now a ABIT kn9 570a sli
ohh and the board came warped but the rear ports
any way decided to go over to intel so got a EVGA board now and using a old p4 extream
sorry to sound pissed of but 2 boards that were useless (each was from difforent Etailor)

Hi, I just bought Big Bang Marshall with all the new computer part yesterday, after i finish installing everything then i started the computer, went to BIOS was planning to choose my boot driver, then i went to check the cpu temp. the cpu is 255 degress at 4.6mhz speed which i have not configure anything yet not even overclock yet. but then i put my hand and feel the temp in the cpu cooler it was warm not hot at all. but i worried that the 255 deg is real and might blow everythign so i turn off. thats the only time i turn it on, then today i phone the shop and the shop didnt know anything they never experience 255 deg. so i need to wait till monday until msi customer service open. but i got whole day today, i am wondering if people can help so i might able to fix the issue. should i continue and install the windows or should i wait till msi open again? thank alot
    my part is:

As long as the RAM defaults properly to 1333 like it is supposed to, all should be fine with having 2133's installed. RAM speed is kind of a sore subject with the Sandy Bridge platform. Not much is gained by 2133 in performance, but if you wish to persue more speed, please open a thread in the OC, Undervolt, & Mod Section of the forum.
    thankss alott

If you are not into extreme overclocking, then indeed a JEDEC standard 1333 set is all thats needed.  If yours defaults to 1333 though and is stable, then you should be fine.

  • Does bios 1.08 really fix the CPU temp?

I just plopped in a shiny new 3700+, and I noticed that unlike my old 3200+, my temps now don't read correctly.  My old 3200+ seemed to read accurately @39c.  Now with my new 3700+ it reads 63c.  I have confirmed that it is not running anywhere near that high, and seems very close to my old 3200+.
I'm presently running bios 1.06 and everything runs great.  On previous motherboards I've had, new bios'es  come out claiming to fix CPU temp readings, but my experance has always been that I've not seen the fix claimed after flashing.
Has anyone running a 3700+ flashed to bios 1.08 actually seen the temp reading fixed?  I can't understand why my 3200+ reads right on but yet my 3700+ is so far off.
    Thanks

Umm..ok, guess I will just hang with 1.06
I've always been of the opinion, that if your attempting to fix something, then flash.  If a new flash doesn't fix the thing I'm trying to fix, then I skip it.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Bios 3.5 and raised cpu temps

i just updated my bios to version 3.5 and my cpu temps went from 32c idle to 52 idle .now ive returned to bios 3.4 and my temps have gone back to 32c idle ..
has anyone else had this strange problem..i know the 3.5 bios updates the cpu microcode and maybe this is the problem or is it that the new bios is giving the right readings and the 3.4 bios giving the wrong readings.!!!!!!any help from the moderators is welcome on this subject

I have just installed the new 3.9 bios and have noted the cpu temp was sitting on 50c. It is normaly on about 40c when running at 1730mhz. I dropped it back to 1530mhz and its made very little difference. Anyone else noticed this.

  • Updated bios increased cpu temp?

I updated my bios from 1.7 to 2.1 and my cpu temp has went from an idle of 50 which isnt good anyways to an idle of 60.  I flashed because when i went inot ht menu the bios would freeze and pc need manual reboot.  Also theres alot of new options in the bios now anyone have a guide?

If you are overclocking, back down on the overclock to reduce the temps.  What type of thermal transfer material are you using on the cpu heatsink?  If too much is applied, it can restrict the thermal transfer.

  • Crazy cpu temps!!!!!!!

Hi...i have an MSI 845PE MAX 3 with a P4 2.53 with stock cooler. Is it ok that at idle the cpu temp is 54 C????I have installed the latest bios and PC-ALERT.Also my digital thermometer that i installed on the side of the cooler never show temp>39c at full load. What is wrong???I changed from amd to intel because i wanted a less noisy and hot pc!!!What can i do????I also have 2 extra funs(one on the front and one on the back).

A statement followed by some questions.
My new MSI6769 MB, the SiS651 Combo, shipped with Fuzzy Logic and PC Alert 4 on its Drivers CD. PC Alert read up to 90 degs C, causing considerable anguish. My local dealer didn't have a clue, and it took MSI in Calif five days to discover that the board does not support those programs, even though the Manual for the 6769 does describe PS Alert 4 as a feature (page 1-6).
In BIOS, "PC Health Status" did read temps in the 40's, which agreed with the sensor of my "dbox" computer case. So, I removed the two Windows programs, but somebody at MSI caused much unnecessary grief.
    Questions:
Why does my System Tray clock lose 1~2 minutes every hour?
Why does RECORDING using the onboard Realtek AC97 audio's Audio Rack cause the clock to lose 17 mins per half hour?
Why does RECORDING using Audio Rack slow my computer to molasses, even though I have 512MB DDR ram and System Resources reports no less than 86% usage?
Why does Audio Rack operate so slowly (or ineffectively) that I can't even "Save" a recording because keyboard entries (for 'File Title') cannot be entered?
Is a (PCI) sound card a "necessary" accessory for the 6769 MB?
Thanks for any help y'all can provide.

  • AGP Aperture size??? and CPU temp???

    1. i have changed the Aperture size to 128Mb (instead of 64) and every time i enter a game, after at least 20 minutes (sometimes less) it kicks me out back to windows.
when i played generals it told me that i might have had a hardware malfunction... which is weird cause i have a new computer.
when i returned the aperture size back to 64, it worked fine, only slower... any ideas...?
    2. my CPU reached some interesting tempretures, and i have a lot of airflow... the question is this, when i'm not running any porgram (IDLE time) my cpu sits at around 43 degrees, when i do run stuff (like games, or graphic progs) my CPU rises up to 58, and i even reached 62 once...
is this logical? shouldn't P4 CPU's be cooler then AMD's? how can i force a change on the CPU cooler to work faster (when i change it through Core center the max i get is 4500rpm), can i make it higher?
    thanx in advance, EagleIL.

    OK,
I have just finished assembling my 865PE monster. I must say, MSI is consistent, the only issue I have seen with them is 2 things:
    1. They will never learn to measure CPU temperature correctly.
    2. Bios updates never seem to improve things much, or can be a disaster.
Other than that, I checked my temps, and with a side fan and a rear fan and a blower (pci slot turbo blower) out, I had 26-28 deg C at startup (cold iron). My CPU temp was 48 deg C which is physically impossible, and the reported case temp was 38 deg C in the bios but 28 deg c on my independent temp system.
I rearranged everything with side out and reversed one of the rears to blow in, and I have a steady 22-23 deg c after 6 hours. The CPU still reads 48 deg c and climbes to 50-52 under load. The reported case temp is still 38 deg c and climbs 1-2 deg. So I do not believe the temp readings.
I also do not believe all the hogwash about the CPU coolers. The stock Intel cooler has always worked fine for me, and I remember a report that said it was one of the best, in a test against a bunch of them a year or so back. There is good reason for this (I work for Intel, so I know it is not made up): They package the cooler with thier retail chips and also provide them to OEMs. They have to take all the measures possible to ensure the CPU survives the 3 year warranty and the only thing (99%) that will kill a CPU is heat. The heat removal rate of the stock heat sink is sufficient to overcome even the extra heat from OC'ing for the most part, as they test it for that. I believe the rates are posted on the website.
I would say the AGP issue is possibly related to heat effecting the memory on your agp card, or a software issue with the AGP drivers themselves. I would reccomen you revert to another card and try the same scenario if you can. There may be issues using the 128 setting itself.
Good luck. I thought this board would be a nightmare, but it has performed flawlessly with XP Pro, 2.6C, 512 meg ram (CL3!!!)(Elixer), and a Radeon 9000 Pro. I loaded Office XP Pro/Frontpage/Adobe and ran all three with no issues at the same time.
    Sometimes its like ::
