BIOS reset

How can I reset the BIOS password on a friend's computer? My friend does not know what it is. I understand he bought the computer used with the password in place. He has a Satellite. Unknown model.

If your friend purchased it used the previous owner should be able to provide the password to you.  If they can't, they probably weren't the legal owner of the laptop.
Since there is no way for any of us here to verify that you (or your friend) are the actual owner of the laptop there is no way that anyone here with any integrity would divulge that information for security reasons.  As lilmaqi stated, you'll need to send or take it to a Toshiba Authorized Service Center to have that removed and he will need to provide proof of ownership to have it done.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Help Needed - Step by Step Procedure CMOS / BIOS Reset (MSI GX600)

    Hi guys,
I gave my old MSI GX600 laptop to my parents (after I got married) the catch is... they had some virus problems with the laptop (after a few months) and had a technician (just a guy manning a cyber cafe) check the laptop. When they got the laptop back it now has a BIOS password... to make matters worse... the guy gave the wrong password for the BIOS... and insists that - that's the password. (the guy didn't have any rights placing a BIOS password - it's not his laptop to begin with).
So basically we can't boot to Windows since when you turn-on the laptop the first thing you see is the BIOS login. They contacted me to try and resolve the situation. I thought that the best way to reset it to factory default... so I went on the net and looked for ways to do the BIOS reset (factory default) and so far everything I tried still resulted to not having it reset back to faculty default. The BIOS login is still there.
Below are the things I did... any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    1. Uplugged the Laptop
    2. Removed the batteries
    3. Removed bottom panel
    4. Un-attach Internal Battery connector to the mainboard (have no idea how to short it... since there are videos on shorting the board [but that's for MSI motherboards and not for laptops])
    5. Left it for a few minutes
    6. Connected everything again
    7. Re-booted the laptop
Anyhow, it still asks for the BIOS login. I even went to the extent of removing all the connectors I can see on the board. But still to no avail. Anyhow, I have no idea what the guy (technician) did to the laptop but it still continues to ask for the BIOS password. Any help regarding this matter... the proper way or procedure of doing it would be greatly appreciated. I just need to remove the BIOS password requirement that is now implemented on the laptop.
    Thanks in advanced!

We don't assist with password removal, contact msi at >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • P6N Platinum Bios Resetting on Boot

    Hi all,
I've got a P6N Platinum that the bios resets on almost every day.
-I turn the PC off each night (start - shutdown - from windows)
-When I turn it on in the morning (pressing the power button) it lights up, but I get no video.
-All four lights are green on the D bracket.
-If I press and hold the power button until it turns off, the turn it back on, the same thing happens.
-If I just press the reset button, it boots with the bios reset.  I have to go in and set the time and disable the onboard audio (since I have an X-Fi).  And any other settings I've tweaked are gone (I've only changed memory timings - but it runs ok on auto).
-Once I reset the bios it works fine the rest of the day - even if I reboot it or power it off and back on.
-I'm not overclocking or doing SLI
Sounds like a battery problem, but it's connected to AC all of the time.
    System Specs:
    Core2Duo E6600
    EVGA 8800 GTX KO
    2 GB Corsair RAM
    Creative X-FI
300 GB Seagate SATA drive (boot)
    Lite-On DVD Drive (IDE)
    Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
Antec Sonata case with SmartPower2 450W PS.
    All new.
    Thanks,

If the system locks up or crashes once fully booted into the O/S, and will not re-boot on subsequent attempts, it should reset BIOS to "Optimized Defaults", telling you, "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking has failed... Please press any key to continue...". Afterwhich, it will boot with the default settings.
If, instead, it successfully re-boots within three attempts of the three-finger-salute boot after the lock-up, it should maintain the user selected BIOS settings.
    That's normal.
I am beginning to think MSI has come up with a "learning" or "self-healing" BIOS. What few little annoying problems I've had are slowly disappearing, one boot at a time.
When you are playing Lord of the Rings do you get physical; shaking or striking your desk or computer? Could be loose wires. I know my truck acts like that at times.
I see that message in the manual, but I have never received it.  It's never taken three attempts - just one.  And, the problem occurs after a normal shutdown.  (but so far only after the game has crashed).
I've been known to turn my keyboard into popcorn before, but not with this system!! - YET!

  • M93p BIOS reset when flashed

Everytime we update the BIOS on any of our M93p desktop the BIOS resets to default.  I looked at the BIOS utilities and can't find a way to flash and keep settings at the same time.  I've tried to capture, flash and restore and get a message that one of the setting is invailed.  Please help.

How are you installing the BIOS update? Are you using the bootable media or the version that runs from within the OS? If the latter, are you running "flash.cmd" or doing something else? There could have been a change between BIOS versions that is causing the issue. If the settings are the same between machines in your environment, can you capture the settings from a machine that has already been upgraded and restore those settings to the newly upgraded machines?

  • NEED BIOS BACKDOOR PASSWORD FOR HP PROBOOK 6540b. Have tried all types of bios resets, no luck.

NEED BIOS BACKDOOR PASSWORD FOR HP LAPTOP PROBOOK 6540b. Have tried all types of bios resets, doesn't work.
The password stay's no error code for entering wrong ones.

    Hi,
I too have been pulling my hair out with this problem on the 6540B. However after  2 days of various driver combinations I've finally found a working fix. I don't have the luxury of reinstalling Windows XP as the machine is custom configured with apps which will take over a week to configure again.
If you've got no audio it's probably because you've installed the IDT High Def Audio Driver. You may have tried a whole bunch of other options also to try and rectify the problem as I did.
    The solution is fairly simple:
Goto to add/remove programs and remove "SoundMax".
    Reboot
The audio driver may try to reinstall on boot up... allow it to install. It will still not work and will still show exclamation mark against IDT driver in Device Manager.
Goto run... then type regedit and hit enter. Windows registry opens.
    Goto My Computer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>
Delete the WHOLE KEY for AEAudio and then exit regedit
Go to device manager and uninstall the IDT High Def Audio device from Device Manager
Then using the original HP Application and Driver Recovery DVD supplied with the notebook, run the autoplay, choose Hardware Enabling Drivers, tick only the IDT High Def Audio driver and follow the installation instruction on screen. You will be prompted to reboot after which Windows will find new hardware. The IDT will install itself and you will find that the sound works!
    Good Luck!
For those that cannot find their original disk, the IDT Audio Driver from the original disk is available at http://tinyurl.com/IDTAudio6540b or http://www.4shared.com/file/RxXn5afj/IDTAUDIO.html

Please help me with bios reset password HP pavilion dv4000 - system disabled - 13179 --- s/n (Personal information removed by moderator) - p/n EC329UA#ABA
    Thank you

Without the DriveLock password there is no way to access the drive.
Since the DriveLock password is specific to the hard drive I believe your only choice is to replace the drive. You cannot disable or remove DriveLock protection without the password.

  • Restoring RAID after BIOS reset

I have five disks connected to the Intel Matrix raid controller on my MSI P55-GD65 mobo. Four of them are set up to use RAID as two pairs of mirrors, i.e. I have two 500GB disks that are mirrored and two 1TB disks that are mirrored and one other disk that is connected to the controller but is not part of a RAID configuration but has my installation of Windows 7 on it. This has been working like this for over 18 months now.
Last night I changed some setting in the BIOS to try get my new memory to run at 1600Mhz. Long story short: it didn't work so I reset the BIOS using the jumper on the mobo.
I've since only been able to boot the mobo when the BIOS has the RAID controller settings set to "IDE". But when I do that I see each of the four "RAIDed" disks as individual disks in Windows. If I set the RAID Controller to "RAID" in the BIOS I get the RAID controller bios prompt (Ctrl+I) and can see everything is set up there correctly - i.e. It can see the two mirrors and the one other disk. But on trying to boot I get "select proper boot device blah blah blah".
In the boot device order page in the BIOS with the Intel controller set to "RAID" the one disk that is on the raid controller but that isn't part of a RAID configuration (i.e. my Windows disk) shows up with the prefix "RAID:".  It's as if the BIOS doesn't know it isn't actually a raid disk.
I've even tried moving the windows disk to the separate SATA 7 port on the mobo to no avail.
I'm at the point where I've backed up my windows partition and I'm about to re-install Windows, although this sounds too dramatic! surely there's a way around this!?!

have you checked hard-disk priority in bios?
