Bios resets itself??

Everytime I enter bios to change something, all of my settings are mixed up, my ethernet is disabled, usb disabled etc, etc. Then, quite often it wont boot and i have to clear bios and start again. I am getting tired of opening the case and moving the clear cmos jumper back and forth. why is it doing this?

Hi
Certainly not a usual problem on a new board, on an older one I would be suspecting a flat battery. Is the battery seated correctly, or could it be flat.
I would be tempted to reflash the bios, but not if battery is at fault.
Now me just being silly, but you do save and exit, not just Esc.
I have noticed that when I disconnect a drive or peripheral that the bios ' recalculates' its settings and I end up with factory defaults in boot sequence.
WD IDEs must have jumper removed if only drive on cable, or at least be on cable select, I am thinking the WD may not be seen if jumper is on, thus resetting bios.

    Hello
If I switch off the power to the power supply to say move the PC perhaps the BIOS resets to default settings. This is really annoying because it resets the date causing Windows XP to activated again...and again.....and again.....   >:(

  • System Resets itself after about 1 to 2 hours use

    Hi guys,
I had setup my system for about 2 months now.  Bios is version 1.90.
I encountered my system resetting itself without warning, sometimes after 1 to 2 hours use, sometimes, even 30 minutes use.  I am using Intel CPU stock fan and getting startup CPU temperature of 44 deg C and about 50 deg C after a few hours use.  Sometimes, the system is stopped and shows the blue screen warning.  A warm reset brings my system back up again.
    Suspect:
    1.  Since I have many peripherals, I am worried about my PSU whether it is able to take it.  The power calculator at http://www.adecy.com/psu/ recommended 570W.  No way to get that man!  I am willing to consider a new PSU of maximum 480W (within my budget) but if it means that I can continue to use the current PSU but with risk of shortened lifespan, I'm ok to stick to this.
    2.  Maybe the Y-Connectors cables might becomes loose sometimes.  Thinking of changing the cables to better tight fitting ones (difficult to find though).
    3.  Overclocking - Don't think so because if I didnot remember wrongly, even at 2.8GHz without o/c, the sudden resets did happen before.
Hope someone can give me a suggestion.  Thanks in advance.
    System Configuration:1.  Mobo 875P Neo-Fis2R
    2.  Intel PIV 2.8c --> 3.03GHz (FSB = 217)
    3.  DOT: Capturn
    4.  PAT: Fast
    5.  Kingston 2.5CL ram, 2 sticks of 512MB

    7.  Seagate SATA 80GB Hdd to Promise 378 raid 1
    8.  WDC 800JB 80GB Hdd to Promise 378 raid 0
    9.  Intel OEM modem
    10.  Canopus Storm 2 PCI card
    11.  Enermax Power Supply 350W,
    +5 V = 32A
    +12 V = 17A
    +3.3V = 32A
    -5 V = 1A
    -12 V = 1A
    -3.3V = 2.2A

When you use the calculator, you have to decide how much you want to load your system up. Eg you have 8 USB ports, how many to you actually use?
This is what I calculated (guessed at the fans):
    Recommended PSU: 401W (151W on +3.3v & +5v rails) for:
-1 x Motherboard without onboard devices
-4 x Fans (including PSU fans)
    -8 x Memory (128MB DDR)
    -1 x Graphic Card
    -1 x with powerful 3D Accelerator
    -3 x HDD
    -1 x Keyboard
    -1 x Mouse
    -CPU: Intel P4 (2.8D GHz 0.13 µm µPGA478 @ 1.525 V with HTT)
The 350W PSU does look on the light side. I don't have a good feel for the Canopus Storm 2 PCI card. Looked it up and it looks like it probably draws as much power as a top end video card. Also, the CPU power requirement goes up with overclocking.

  • Multiplier resetting itself

Have had this problem for the past couple of months, whenever I try to set my cpu multi to 10x it reverts back to 11x after several restarts, and end result is OS wont boot. Also cool and quiet will re-enable itself for no apparent reason.
I can run Orthos for over a day at OC'd settings without any issues(I've done this several times now), this only happens from cold boot. I've already re-seated everything, unhooked mainboard power connectors + clear cmos etc...
     Any suggestions appreciated.

    Corsair 620hx (12v-50A)

I have a similar problem on my system.  I will have the OC good and stable, but after a few reboots for other software updates it will revert back to the stock FSB as well as some other settings. This is probably part of the “Failed Overclock” function. It apparently counts every reboot or even a Windows Restart. It would be great if the function would reset the counter on successful boots or maybe even a setting in the BIOs to turn this function off.
So, instead of watching the post screen and resetting it every time it would reset itself, I am thinking about using software tools to OC at Windows boot time.
The other option would be to NEVER do a restart.  Always shutdown, then do a cold boot.  What a pain.

  • NEED BIOS BACKDOOR PASSWORD FOR HP PROBOOK 6540b. Have tried all types of bios resets, no luck.

NEED BIOS BACKDOOR PASSWORD FOR HP LAPTOP PROBOOK 6540b. Have tried all types of bios resets, doesn't work.
The password stay's no error code for entering wrong ones.

    Hi,
I too have been pulling my hair out with this problem on the 6540B. However after  2 days of various driver combinations I've finally found a working fix. I don't have the luxury of reinstalling Windows XP as the machine is custom configured with apps which will take over a week to configure again.
If you've got no audio it's probably because you've installed the IDT High Def Audio Driver. You may have tried a whole bunch of other options also to try and rectify the problem as I did.
    The solution is fairly simple:
Goto to add/remove programs and remove "SoundMax".
    Reboot
The audio driver may try to reinstall on boot up... allow it to install. It will still not work and will still show exclamation mark against IDT driver in Device Manager.
Goto run... then type regedit and hit enter. Windows registry opens.
    Goto My Computer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Services>
Delete the WHOLE KEY for AEAudio and then exit regedit
Go to device manager and uninstall the IDT High Def Audio device from Device Manager
Then using the original HP Application and Driver Recovery DVD supplied with the notebook, run the autoplay, choose Hardware Enabling Drivers, tick only the IDT High Def Audio driver and follow the installation instruction on screen. You will be prompted to reboot after which Windows will find new hardware. The IDT will install itself and you will find that the sound works!
    Good Luck!
For those that cannot find their original disk, the IDT Audio Driver from the original disk is available at http://tinyurl.com/IDTAudio6540b or http://www.4shared.com/file/RxXn5afj/IDTAUDIO.html

  • Help Needed - Step by Step Procedure CMOS / BIOS Reset (MSI GX600)

    Hi guys,
I gave my old MSI GX600 laptop to my parents (after I got married) the catch is... they had some virus problems with the laptop (after a few months) and had a technician (just a guy manning a cyber cafe) check the laptop. When they got the laptop back it now has a BIOS password... to make matters worse... the guy gave the wrong password for the BIOS... and insists that - that's the password. (the guy didn't have any rights placing a BIOS password - it's not his laptop to begin with).
So basically we can't boot to Windows since when you turn-on the laptop the first thing you see is the BIOS login. They contacted me to try and resolve the situation. I thought that the best way to reset it to factory default... so I went on the net and looked for ways to do the BIOS reset (factory default) and so far everything I tried still resulted to not having it reset back to faculty default. The BIOS login is still there.
Below are the things I did... any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    1. Uplugged the Laptop
    2. Removed the batteries
    3. Removed bottom panel
    4. Un-attach Internal Battery connector to the mainboard (have no idea how to short it... since there are videos on shorting the board [but that's for MSI motherboards and not for laptops])
    5. Left it for a few minutes
    6. Connected everything again
    7. Re-booted the laptop
Anyhow, it still asks for the BIOS login. I even went to the extent of removing all the connectors I can see on the board. But still to no avail. Anyhow, I have no idea what the guy (technician) did to the laptop but it still continues to ask for the BIOS password. Any help regarding this matter... the proper way or procedure of doing it would be greatly appreciated. I just need to remove the BIOS password requirement that is now implemented on the laptop.
    Thanks in advanced!

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro Resets Itself

I bought my 13" Macbook Pro in September of last year. Lately it has intermittently started resetting itself, meaning in the middle of whatever I'm working on, my screen will suddenly turn a light blue color, then the desktop will reload afresh, with all the applications I'd been working on previously no longer open. It seems to happen when I'm switching between programs, primarily when I'm switching back to Safari or Word, but that may just be coincidence. It's frustrating, but I haven't lost any data yet. I've run all software updates, if that makes any difference.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

I suppose I should have mentioned that I've been making frequent Time Machine backups and save my most important files in cloud storage. I'm certainly not averse to making a Genius Bar appointment, but I do have reservations about how much they'll be able to help given that I can't reproduce the problem at will.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500A Periodically resets itself

About every 20 minutes the screen on my HP Officejet Pro 8500A goes blank, then redisplays, followed by the carriage shifting sounding like the printer is resetting itself to print a job.  I'm set up on a WiFi connection and have no screen blanking set.  This resetting is VERY disconcerting as it happens with no warning.  How can I stop this periodic reset?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi HevnLgh,
I completed all of the steps you recommended and they did not solve the problem.  However two days later the problem has disappeared.
The problem was not that the printer was powering off.  Also it was not connected to a computer in any manner other than WiFi, though it did have a phone line connection to send/receive FAXes.  The printer display was blanking for a few seconds, followed by redisplay and carriage movement that sounded just like when it was getting ready to print.  However no printout resulted, nor was there any print job pending.
Now the display goes dim periodically for a few seconds, but comes back on.  However there is no longer any carriage movement or other noises.  Since the sudden noise was always the annoying factor I'm satisfied that the issue is resolved.

  • Mac OS 10.4 reset itself

    Hi,
I was using my PowerBook G4 today like I always do. I was downloading some new icons from the apple website and I was writing a paper for school. I was pasting some of these new icons onto folders, when my customize buttons on the Finder dissappeared. I thought the computer was just having a small problem, so I restarted it.
When I did that, the entire OS was changed. The dock was reset back to factory settings (except instead of the icons appearing, they were question marks). My iTunes library was erased, as was my iPhoto library (and all of my other applications were reset). My edits to the Finder (such as backgrounds) were set back to white, and edits inside of applications were undone (for instance, my bookmarks in Safari were reset back to factory settings).
What happened? And is there a way to recover the settings I had put into the computer? It didn't delete my MS Word and Excel files, but it seems to have deleted or reset everything else. I have had no problems with my computer before. Nothing like this has ever happened to it before. Thanks for your help in advance.
    PowerBook G4 12.1 1.5 GHz 512 MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Update:
After digging around more, I've found most of my files. My iTunes music is all there for instance. However, I have to reimport the files into iTunes to get them to play.
So, my question is now... what happened? Why did my computer reset itself, but not delete my files? And how do I keep this from happening again in the future?

  • My iphone 3gs is not working properly, when switched on it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and more often than not just resets itself.

My iPhone 3gs is not working properly and hasn't been since about September of last year. When switched on (Quite often it won't even turn on) it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and just resets itself over and over until power is gone. Occasionally after switching on and off a few times it functions normally for a few hours and some times even a couple of days but eventually always turns itself off and goes back to the 'Update Completed' screen. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or a way of fixing it?

    Morning JordenR,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ITunes keeps resetting itself

I got my Sony VAIO laptop just before christmas and downloaded itunes from this website onto it. But every few days it resets itself and all my music, playlists and the genius sidebar disappear. To fix it I just drag and drop all the stuff in the itunes music folder back into itunes, but it's very frustrating and I shouldn't have to do it. I never experienced this with my home computer which also operates on vista. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to fix it?

The Sony Media Management software is causing a conflict with itunes.

Hi I have a MS-6340M Ver5.0 Mainboard which I have just update the CPU to  a 2.6Ghz CPU. I have replaced the CPU fan and heat sink with one rated to 3.0Ghz.

I thought it was due to over heating? but still does it with new fan, are there any setting that I have not set corretly or do I have a faulty New CPU.
    Can some one help?
