BIOS setting questions

There's to BIOS settings that I have as disabled, but I wanted to check what they are for.
>Advanced BIOS
APIC ACPI SCI IRQ
>Freq/Voltage
Spread spectrum
Can anyone help please?

yeah like Reilly said the Spread Spectrum leave off until you have a problem and suspect EM interference. Then you can try it on but only at stock speeds.
As for the APIC option I don't know a lot. If you read the manual it says this:
Quote
This field is used to enable or disable the APIC(Advanced programmable Interrupt Controller). Due to compliance to PC2001 design guide, the system is able to run in APIC mode. Enabling this option will expand available IRQ's resources for the system.
I also know that the OS must support this feature for it to work and WinXP apparently does.
I feel that keeping this enabled(especially during the initial WinXP install) eliminates a lot of problems people have with device conflictions so I ALWAYS keep it enabled.
What I do not know is whether enabling it after XP has been installed is beneficial or not. I think it is but if anyone knows different please advise.
Update: (From Google cache) I think it's the site Danny linked to.
Quote
...If your single-processor motherboard supports APIC and you are using a Win32 operating system (Windows NT, 2000 and XP), it's recommended that you enable this feature to allow faster and better IRQ handling. If you are using a multiprocessor motherboard, you must enable this feature because it's required for IRQ handling in multiprocessor systems.
However, if you are running Windows 95/98 or a DOS-based operating system on a single-processor motherboard, you must disable this feature. This is because MS-DOS drivers assume they can write directly to the 8259 PIC (APIC did not exist yet in those days!) and its associated IDT entries. Disabling this feature forces the APIC to revert to the legacy 8259 PIC mode...

When using the hi performance bios setings, my Xp 2400+ shows clocked as 2030 mhz. Everything is clocked to stock speed, so why is there a slight oveclock. Thanks.

    Hi,
You may use WCPUID or Fuzzy Logic to check the real CPU speed instead.

To enter into BIOS, Press and hold the F1 key then turn on the computer. When you hear multiple beeps, release the F1 key.

  • KT4-V (6712) and 2700+ bios setting problem?

    Hi all,
Here is my problem, upgraded to kt4-V (6712) all is working except my processor speed. I have a Athlon 2700+ and in the bios set up I have gone to change the setting so that the right speed etc is read. The highest FSB I can go is 133Mhz and the cpu ratio on auto. Set the system higher and it will not boot up. MSI say to set those setting to 166 FSB and 13x cpu ratio. Result being the same. I have updated the Bios from V1.5 to V1.7 and set the SDRAM to 333MHz with the result being the same. Have I missed something somewhere. On bootup at the moment it's saying I have 2100+ so I now it's not running on full steam. Have not installed OS yet as I am trying to get the bios set up first!
    Any ideas.
    thanks

    Top man Bas,
have set bios to default, and changed the FSB to 166, removed all but one memory (512Mb) and It works. Thanks for that, it was doing my head in abit. Silly question but did it lock up because of too much memory installed before the OS is installed?

  • Bios set up utility

I need to get to the BIOS set-up utility.  All key punches (escape, ctrl+alt+... etc) I've tried do not take me there.  Running windows 8 on HP p7-1410pc.

I moved the cmos jumper(s) then booted up and windows came on without having to provide the power-up password (which I do not have).  The descpription of how to do this on the HP support site for my Joshua motherboard does not match what I have. Also, it said to move the jumper for a few seconds and then put it back.  I tried that and it did not work.    So... by moving both jumpers 1 pin each it appears my problem is solved.

  • Bios set to OC at General..Yet no change in speed

    Maybe a dumb question...
I have my bios set to General--Fast and all seems well no crashes yet  (48hours running) Yet when I check CPUID, Everest, SiSandra, etc. the CPU speed is 3246 which is hardly different than when it was set to Private... I read the guides and I've followed all steps.
The FSB is showing at 202.86
    System buss 811.46
    multiplier 16
Ram is set at 400 instead of Auto.. Temps are under control..
It is faster in terms of execution. But why don't the numbers go up??
Is there something I am doing wrong. I have latest Bios from MSI..dated 9-29-04 v 2.5
I have gone through all settings and all have been similar in recorded information (Sergeant was not that stable.. Sound problems)
    Part 2
I have a second system and am interested in changing the MB to another, Any recommendations? Socket 478 P4 3.2 Prescott   Memory is DDR 400.. The MB is not too stable (abit)...

Thanks for the link, I understand it a bit more now...
The modules I am using are
    512MBSamsung Model #M368L6423ETM-CCCSamsung

A* : Supports one modual inserted in any slot as Single-channel memory configuration
B* : Supports one pair of modules inserted into eithor the blue slots or the black slots as one pair of Dual-channel memory core
C* : Supports 4 modules inserted into both the blue and black slots as two pairs of Dual-channel memory configuration
Some tests reveal the memor to be manufactured by ATI, Xerox or Samsung as listed above. When I purchased them they were listed as Samsung. On the MSI site I believe they are listed as Ati

  • P67A-GD65 new system bios setting recommendations and sata connections

    Hey all,
My old dual core HTPC (after many hours of use) finally gave up the ghost and moved on to the great PC grave yard . I have ordered all the new upgrade parts from Newegg and am looking for recommendations on what bios settings and setup procedures I should use on the initial bootup and Windows load. I'm not looking to overclock I just want a fast stable system for video decoding and playback. It's my understanding from the manual that SATA 1-2 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and 7-8 are controlled by the Marvell chip but I am unsure of SATA 3-6. Can SATA 3-6 do raid 0? I want to use the Crucial SSD as my primary boot drive and the 2 WD drives on raid 0 as my secondary drive. SATA connection advice (which SATA ports) and Raid Bios setting would be helpful. Should I install the raid 0 drives after I have Windows 7 loaded on the SSD? Any other setup advice is appreciated.
    Here is my setup.
    Windows 7 64bit
    Bach HTPC case
    Ultra LSP 750Pro PSU
    Intel i5-2500 3.3G CPU
    MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard
Sapphire HD5570 1G RT Video Card
Crucial CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 SSD 6.0Gb/s SATAIII (Primary boot drive)
    2 WD3200KS Hard Drives SATA 3.0Gb/s (Raid 0)
    Lite-on 12X Blu-Ray Burner SATA
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Two questions answered. SATA 3-6 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and do support Raid 0 but I still wonder if I should wait to install the drives until Windows has finished it's install.
SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® P67 & Marvell SE9128 chipsets
    - Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed.
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA1~2) by P67 PCH
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell SE9128
    - SATA1~6 ports support RAID 0/1/5/10 mode by Intel P67 PCH
    - SATA7~8 ports support RAID 0/1 mode by Marvell SE9128

  • Cannot install on this disk your disk controller nay not recognise this drive change bios setting?

I've looked high and low every accessible field in the bios and I'm not finding any solution. why cant it access existing partitions or create new ones. I know the hard drive works because  I was originally using it as a back up drive

    Hi,
Did you perform a clean installation of Windows 7 on this disk? Did you change the sata mode as Tripredacus said?
Please give us more exact prompt message and which phase did you encounter this error?
Please read this article to change your BIOS setting:

under #5 (set passwords) you can remove the power-on password.   you'll have to enter the old password, then a blank password twice by pressing 'enter'.
if all else fails you can clear the CMOS using the jumper at the bottom of the motherboard.   move the jumper to the left, reboot, wait for the beeps, shut down, move it back, and boot as normal.   this will clear all settings and passwords in the BIOS, returning it to factory state.

We've noticed that when removing power to the C200 M1s and then restoring power; the server doesn't automatically start. We've looked for a BIOS setting but can't seem to find it. Any pointers would be appreciated.

The BIOS from 1.1.1.d on CCO should have the option "Resume on AC Power Loss" under Server Management which will allow you to control the behavior.

Best BIOS setting for MSI K8N Plat + AMD 3000+ Venice + Geil Value RAM

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.

it allows two or more identical systems to copy BIOS settings from one to another, saving administrators time in trying to figure out option-by-option how to set up multiple systems identically.
