Bios Settings for AMD 2500+

Hi Guys,
I've just built a new system with a KM"M Combo series MSI motherboard. I've put an AMD 2500+ CPU in and set the bio settings all to default, however the CPU is shown as a 1700+ and then in Windows XP the actual speed is shown as being 1400+ Can anyone tell me which settings I need to change and to what.
Thanks.

KM2M uses a 133/266FSB max, the 2500 is a 333FSB CPU. you will never get it up to full speed on that board. Either swap it for a 2600 266FSB chip (good luck finding the rare critter) or a 2400. the 2600 has 3 versions, 1 @ 266, and 2 @ 333. All 2400's are 266FSB.
The other option is to run it at the speed it is running now, and knowing that you are underclocking it about 20%.

  • Ideal KT4V BIOS settings for XP2500+ Barton

I've read AMD's recommendations for the KT4V BIOS settings  http://www.amdforums.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=186506 , but they seem to be very generic. I would like to know the settings that would give me the highest performance, without causing any instability, using my present system and usage. My son does 3D animation and gaming on this computer. This is a stand alone computer (no network). The latest version BIOS for the KT4V offers an option in Power Management Features to enable CPU HALT Command Detection. I heard that this would work better than Cooler XP in cooling the CPU. I enabled it and my CPU Temp dropped 6-10 degrees C. Is this recommended? What is the down side of this action? My system is as follows: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ w/ Vantec VA4-C7040 CPU fan (w/Arctic Silver 3) MSI KT4V mobo Gainward Golden Sample Ti/450 TV w/ 128MB DDR (GeForce3 Ti 200) 2 - Kingston 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM Antec TRUE550 power supply 1 - 40GB 7200RPM hard drive 1 - 30GB 5400RPM hard drive 1 - CD-ROM 1 - CD-RW 1 - floppy drive Windows XP home Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Barry

As a result of my research, these are the BIOS settings that I am using.  My computer runs well and is stable.

  • Suggested K8T Neo BIOS settings for CL 3 Kingston Value RAM

    G'evening!
I'll be putting together a system with the Athlon 64 3000 and K8T Neo board and had a question about optimal BIOS settings for paired Kingston non-ECC DDR 3200 RAM (2x512mb) that's CAS 3.  Should have gotten some CAS 2.5 probably but this is what I have for now so in it goes.  I'm reading the quick users guide and noticed that you can manipulate the CAS, TCRD, TRAS, and TRP.
First question:  Will the board's auto detect do a good job in picking out a stable configuration?
2nd question:  If you had to or wanted to make manual settings, what would you suggest?  The CAS value is rather easy since I guess it should be set to 3 but what settings would one pick for the others?
And if I still have your attention...
The other things that will be going in the system are the infamous Maxtor 120 gig SATA HD, a XFX 5900FX video card, Lite-On combo burner.  Powersupply is an Antec Solution Series 400W PS.  After reading the forums for a bit I get the impression that you shouldn't forget to load the SATA Promise drivers so the HD will get recognized.  My SATA drive will be the only drive in the system and will of course be the boot drive.  Any other possible pitfalls or problems I should know about with the Maxtor SATA's and the K8T Neo board?
Also, I had thought I read from a review that the Zalman Al-Cu CPU heatsink/fan will fit on this board.  Of course after seeing it in my hands for the first time I thought that it was a pretty damn big heatsink.  Anyone else using this heatsink? (haven't taken it out of the packaging yet so that's why I wanted some impressions).
Thanks for any advice you can give me.  It's been a bit of time since I built a computer and I'm sure there's alot of basic things I'm relearning along with the fact that the Athlon 64 is fairly new technology.  On the other hand, when it's running smoothly...

Cant offer anything on the Timing, (sorry as I am Intel Fodder ), But I can assure you that the Zalman 7000-AlCu, Will Indeed Fit onto your Motherboard (With Room To Spare!) :biggthumbsup:I can attest to this because My buddy just installed the Zalman 7000-AlCu on his K8T ....And He loves it! As do I ....It's about the only thing that we have in common as far as PC'S Go .........Sean REILLY875

  • Best BIOS settings for Kt3 Ultra2 and Geforce4?

    Hi,
Can someone tell me what the best BIOS settings would be for my KT3 Ultra2 running a Geforce4 ti4200?
I get crappy scores in 3dMark2001 SE and I have the infamous stuttering/crashing problems in 3D games.  I've tried pretty much every configuration of settings and drivers I can think of.
I saw on these forums that the Kt3 Ultra2 can be a bit fussy with GF4 cards.  If someone could post the best BIOS settings for performance and stability I'd be eternally grateful.
Alternatively, email me at [email protected] with them.
    Thanks in advance

very very similar as far as i can make out

  • Bios Settings for 785GT-E63

Where can I find BIOS settings for the 785GT-E63 that will give me the most optimum performance for my system?  My system consists of:
Nvidia GeForce 7300GT graphics card-256MB memory
    G.Skill-4GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory
    Phenom X3 8600-2.3 GHZ
    Coolermaster case with 2-120MM fans
    Coolermaster 500 watt PSU

Can someone tell me what I need to do to optimize this system?  Would like to buy another CPU, but not sure if I am getting the most out of this one.  Help!!

Would like to buy another CPU, but not sure if I am getting the most out of this one.
How do you mean? If your CPU is correctly recognised, and operates at its native speed of 2.3ghz, then you're getting the most out of it.
Does your system work without issues? Does it do everything you require of it, and do it well?
If yes, and yes, then stop fretting and enjoy your system, instead of trying to look for problems that aren't there.
Of course, if you want to try and push your system further, then you'll have to start overclocking. But we have a whole seperate area for that here, and you should post your questions there.

  • Bios Settings For MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum MB

Hello all...  Has anyone came up with the best and most stable bios settings for the MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum motherboard yet.  Specifically under the CPU and Memory menus.
If anyone has seen any, please post them. or post a link.

Well that depends on the installed CPU and memory, doesnt it? So I find that question kinda odd.
One thing though: Dont use Cool n Quiet.

  • Default Bios Settings for RS480MS-IL2

    Hi all
I am just wondering if there is some hidden key that loads some Default Bios Settings for this board? I know there is an Optimized Settings option, but i haven't seen a Default one.
I am using version bios version 3.8
    Thanks.

have you tried a better psu
a 128 mb ram consumes around around 8 to 10 watts
    http://www.blueowltechnologies.com/pmConsumption.asp
    volts x amps =watts
    3.3v feeds ram
so at most you have 46 watts on a good day

Hi can some one tell me what i set the bios settings too for a AMD 2100+ and PC3200 DDR ram in the bios of a K7N2 Delat ILSR.
I dont want to over clock the system just run it at the stock speeds.
    Cheers

set FSB to 133 and FSB/Dram ratio to 1:1 you will be underclocking your ram but you will get more peformance running in sync

Change your user config mode in dram configuration to manual and change your memory timing to 1T.  The 1T setting will speed up your memory slightly.

  • Bios settings for K9A2 v1.0 and PC2-8500 1066MH

My apologies in advance if this issue is like beating a dead horse but I have been looking for stable bios recomendations and proper settings for over a week now not only in this forum but the msi german board as well where I found my beta last year. I built my system a year ago and have never been 100% satisfied with it as it totally screams but intermittenly BSOD and reboots while gaming usually in heavy action :o(
I had a difficult time getting a working bios and configuration in Jan '08 but all I remember was it was in ganged, 128 bit mode, and had spread spectrum and other auto disable pci something setting disable and I have been able to run memory at 1066MHz.
after last crash a week ago I replace my beta 1.3 bios with A7376AMS V1.7B4 011309 out of desperation to correct the random booting issus as well as suspected over heating as I have tried removing the side panel to my coolermaster Cosmos to see if getting more air one components would help and I cant tell but I do know I cannot get the system back to 1066Mhz
currently runing unganged 64-bit and any attempt to change that and Cell settings causes BSOD in Vista 64-Bit, I cannot figure out how to adjust the voltage as the settings are greyed out. If anyone has a working bios could you supply me version info as well as how to set correct voltage and any other setting to stablize. yes, I have memory still in first two slots.
    thanks for your time

I have used Geil RAM untill 2 months ago,but the board wasnt working properly with it so i changed to Kingston.Maybe you should barrow from a firend other brand modules and see how they work
Or maybe you should use them at 800 Mhz.
Leave the timings on auto and adjust only the voltage .

    Hi Guys,
I am new to all this PC stuff, i was a mac user for the last 8 years. At the moment i am learning all this stuff on the Bios - can anybody help me out give me the best settings for my PC (without overclocking)? I understand if i disable cool n quiet - i will get better performance.

I ran the 3dmark03 (demo) and the score came up 4005 - i am not sure if this result is how it should be but i really think its slow compared to my mate's 2600 XP running 9700pro and getting a score of around 5500.
    Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated.

3dMark03 is very GPU-demanding, and your mate's 9700pro is a faster card then your 9600XT.
Try runing 3dMark01 and it whill test the hole system more or less.
About biossettings I'm to new to A64 to give any suggestions, but memory timing have big effekt on preformens.

Need more information pertaining to the issue at hand, does the PC have problems booting or stability issues or does it run no problems at all?
From whats in your sig it seems you have some OCZ unless that is incorrect? What is the issue at hand?
For dual channel, put the two sticks of ram into color matched DIMM's closest to the CPU, 1&2 for AMD boards as far as I know.

How do you install windows 7 in UEFI mode and what bios settings do I need to install it on a D30 workstation.

Not a ThinkStation guy, but FWIW, that can happen when installing Win 7 in UEFI mode when CSM support is not enabled in BIOS.
Is CSM support - either explicit or by selecting "other OS" and turning UEFI back on as suggested above - an option?
