  • Bios tweaks for a K9A Platinum

Any one have some tweaks for this MB
    AMD 6400 black box CPU
    2gig corsair value
    ATI 2900xt crossfire
    500gig sata hard drive

What are you referring to with "tweaks"?
You can't gain extra performance in the BIOS without overclocking.

  • Please recommend OC settings for MSI K9A Platinum and AM2 6000+

OS is Vista Ultimate x64.  BIOS revision is 1.7.
Memory is Corsair XMS DDR2-800 5-5-5-18-2T.  I have 2 Diamond HD2900XT's in crossfire default clocks 825/1075 using driver 7.10.  At stock everything runs stable.  No crashes in any games.  I have a 92mm intake fan feeding the two video cards which exhaust out the back.  PSU is the PC Power and Cooling 750 single rail.  CPU heatsink is stock.
I am really only looking to OC the CPU.  So does anyone with the same motherboard haven any recommendations?  Or any of you skilled overclockers?

Change your user config mode in dram configuration to manual and change your memory timing to 1T.  The 1T setting will speed up your memory slightly.

  • When is going to be released official new bios for k9a platinum

    Hi,
as I write in topic, when is going to be released new bios for k9a platinum?
    thanks

That is a Kuma CPU and as such it is not and probably will not be supprted on your older MB.
Here is a list of MBs that support 7550 Kuma, 7750 it appears like is too new to be on any MSI MB CPU support list yet however it it should be supported on them as well.
    K9A2 CF, K9AGM3-F, K9A2 Neo-F
    K9N2GM-F V2, K9N2 SLI Platinum / K9N2 Zilent, K9N2G Neo
    K9A2GM V3, KA790GX, KA780G-M
    KA790GX-M, KA780GM-M, KA780GM

  • Bios Settings For MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum MB

Hello all...  Has anyone came up with the best and most stable bios settings for the MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum motherboard yet.  Specifically under the CPU and Memory menus.
If anyone has seen any, please post them. or post a link.
    Thanks
    DaaDoctor

Well that depends on the installed CPU and memory, doesnt it? So I find that question kinda odd.
One thing though: Dont use Cool n Quiet.

  • MSI k9a Platinum + PowerColor 1950 pro extreme + bios v1.6

Hello!  At motherboard stood version firmware v1.4 Run test 3DMark2005 and received 10,444 importance to my configuration (which is a good figure). Then Live Update pointed out that there are newer BIOS v1.6, I flash. Then began receiving in 7048 3DMark2005  :( Tried to reinvent the windows XP, set new driver, not helped, Clear CMOS. ReFlash to version v1.3 (why not found on the website version v1.4), and miracle! 3DMark2005 shows 10456  . It can be concluded to reduce speed blame new BIOS. So do not recommend placing Edition v1.4 above.
Sorry for my English. I used a translator from GOOGLE
    AMD 5200+ windsor
    MSI k9a platinum
    PowerColor X1950 PRO Extreme 256MB
    DDR-2 1Gb 800 Elixir *2
    Western Digital Serial ATA II (WD3200AAJS) - 8Mb, 7200rpm
    Chieftec LBX-02BBSL 450W

Here we go AGAIN, I will explain this AGAIN .......
Do not flash the bios if there aren't any problems!
Flashing the bios is only usefull if you experience compatibility problems between certain hardware devices in your pc. So, leave the bios alone!
A BIOS IS NOT A DRIVER!
And, like it is with drivers, newer is not always better! Some driver/bios are meant only for newer hardwaremodels.
LEAVE IT ALONE, UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO MESS WITH IT.
So, Foxyrus, lesser points in 3DMark was completely your own fault, not MSI's. Telling people not to use the 1.6 bios is nonsense. In your case it did not work, but for some folks it probably will work.

  • Again prob with K9A Platinum BIOS ....

After the 1.5 BIOS of the K9A Platinum , BIOS went downhill .... I'm not using either 1.6 or 1.7 now cause my 8800GTX doesn't run ok.It seems it runs downclocked. For example when 3Dmark06 starts , with 1.5 i have 65FPS , with 1,6 and 1.7 i have 37FPS .I had in the past opened a thread here having that prob and in the end it was the BIOS.I was really hoping the 1.7 would solve this issue , but no ... And except that i have an AMD X2 5200+ and i wonna put extra voltage to o/c it but 1.25 is way low.My pc posts just fine in the beginning but doesn't boot on windows.I really think that if the highest vcore voltage value to set to M/B was 1.5 i would be able to o/c my CPU and boot in windows.Hope 1.8 will fix those probs ...

Stick with the BIOS that works best!
BIOS versions are NOT updates! they are bug-fixes....
Newer revisions doe not nessesary offer better OC or better workings...
Also, do not count on too much OC fixes, as they don't make new revisions to solve OC problems.
    (They might, but normaly not)
    So go back to 1.5

  • K9A Platinum no longer posting after bios update

I recently upgraded my computer to the specs below, and vista ultimate wouldn't start up (In safe mode it would freeze on checkdisk). I tried some of the solutions I found here (unplugging IDEs, etc) to no avail, and finally I decided to flash the BIOS and upgrade it to the most recent version (1.5). It worked once after restart (sor of, it froze on checkdisk again) but on subsiquent boots it no longer posts! Help please, I need my desktop!

Okay, i'm able to get into vista with four gigs, six gigs causes it to reset at crcdisk.sys, and it seems to boot with 8. It seems that some setting got tripped in the BIOS update, Looks like this was some spirit of spontaneity prevalent in so many computers. Thanks for the help!
you are welcome, next time please do not touch the BIOS when everythink is working fine. and don't update BIOS only because its a new one.. read here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=103441.0
also 1.5 are known as problematic one for most of K9A owners...
"Okay, i'm able to get into vista with four gigs, six gigs causes it to reset at crcdisk.sys, and it seems to boot with 8."
that is normal, issues can be expected when using 3 memory sticks. recommended are 2 memory sticks, other working combination 1 or 4 memory sticks.(but 3 memory sticks are not recommended.)
also its a good idea to check memory for errors with Memtest86, to ensure that they are working correctly without errors.

  • DKA790GX Platinum BIOS-settings?

I´ve recently upgraded my previous AMD X2 +4200 processor to a +6000. Everything seems to be working fine except Cubase 5 which now crackles, stutters and the ASIO-meter shoots through the roof. I know I maybe should be posting this in a Cubase-related forum, but I don´t think the problem is with Cubase itself. Before the CPU-switch everything was working just fine. After failing to find a solution I then opted to exchange my mainboard (from a MSI K9N platinum to a MSI DKA790GX Platinum) in hope that this would solve the problem. It did not.
I´ve gotten suggestions for problems with cpu, memory, graphicscard, harddrives and god knows what.
I´m a little confused as to where to start changing things?
Are there any general suggestions for BIOS-settings for this mobo that any of you have to share?
I´m now running it in fail-safe mode.

Quote from: Fredrik on 07-May-09, 20:45:35
Since the sound problems was not connected to processor or motherboard... Speaker, interfering signals (cell and cordless phones!!), CuBase/Windows (but crackle whatever that is is not easily associated to software).
Will check, but it seems unlikely since nothing´s changed regarding cables, power or physical position of hardware (speakers, interface or otherwise).
I should say that I previously used Windows XP Pro SP3 and recently switched to XP Home SP3, but since I´ve used the older processor with both OS´s and have had no problems that shouldn´t be the problem either. Besides, I´ve never heard of any problems/differences with audiointerfaces when switching from XP Pro to XP Home or vice versa as long as all drivers updated properly.

  • DKA790GX Platinum no VGA Bios Settings

    Hi,
I recently acquired the DKA790GX Platinum motherboard together with the 9950BE processor. I am also running the system with the Powercolor 3870x2. I do not see the onboard vga settings in the bios as perscribed in the manual.
Would like to check if the settings only appear when there is no external graphics card connected to the board? The onboard graphics is also not detected in Windows Vista.
I am running on bios version 1.2.
    Please advise.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I removed the 3870x2 and the bios settings for onboard graphics becomes present. After I reconnected the board, the vga settings are no longer available.
Hence, I'm wondering if this is by design? I do not need the onboard graphics but I'm just curious as to whether this is normal behaviour for the board or do I have a lemon.
I read somewhere that if we want to use both a discrete card and the integrated graphics, the discrete video card must be a 34xx series card. I installed an MSI ATI 3450 and my bios shows both  + side port.

  • K7N2 Delta2 Platinum Bios settings help please

Please forgive me if I seem a bit stupid, but we all have to start somewhere.
As you can see from my signature although an old socket A set-up this should still perform pretty well when my son plays his games (Age of Empires 3) but the dam thing keeps crashing (back to the desktop) and performace is not what it should be.
I built the pc my self so I am ok to fiddle about with things but I am not as knowalgable as most people on this forum, So I would like someone to help me with some BIOS settings on this board, can anyone recommend some settings that would work well.

Having now read the excellent post by klondike on this board I want to update my bios to the 11.50 (B50) version.
I know about all the dangers of updating your bios but as I am having prob’s with my board and it seems like the B5 bios is better that the B4, I want to update it but I have tried now for 2 hours to update it and I am obviously doing something very wrong and it is doing my head in!
I have read the MSI guide to bios updating and others on this forum but I can’t get anything to even start to work.
I have downloaded and un-zipped the B50 bios update for my board. I have put the unzipped files in a folder in the C: drive I have named “test” I have made a dos floppy and set my bios to 1st boot floppy but when I boot to it at the A prompt you type C: (and enter) and it says bad file or command (I can’t remember which) so I then tried burning the bios files to a cd and once again after booting to the dos there is no option to get it to boot or find the cd drive you just get the A: prompt
I have also tried updating it though live update but live update says the latest version is 11.4 (B4) and that is what my board already has so I can’t update it from there as MSI have not updated their live update page.
I am almost at my wits end and feel like setting light to the dam thing, all I want to do is up date my bios its not that hard I have done it before on other pc’s but I can’t remember how I did it! (thats my age)
Please can someone spare me a few minutes to talk me though this.

  • K9a Platinum 1.7 bios problem

Hi, I was previously running bios v1.3 without any problems, today I flashed to bios 1.7 as I am planning on using 4gb ram soon with windows xp x64.
Well I flashed to 1.7 ok, then cleared cmos and loaded bios defaults.
Rebooted and then loaded optimized defaults and configured the bios settings identical to the settings I had in bios 1.3. With the exception of HTlink i set this from auto to 1ghz as cpu-z was showing htlink running at 200mhz instead of 1000mhz.
Then after booting in to windows for 3-4 minutes my system powers down completely and the power led is flashing and system is off.
I am not overclocking this board and I never had this issue with bios 1.3 anyone experienced this?

Quote from: msiguy on 25-October-07, 14:14:53
i think i experienced this once. my computer simply cut off and wouldn't power on for about 1 minute.  the cause ended being this 3rd party program i dled. it was a temp monitor for dual cores that displayed the temp in the taskbar. i got it off this site actually. it was easy to diagnose since i just installed and ran it be4 the shutdown. good thing too b/c i was going to put it in my startup folder :(
    Hi Msiguy
Was the application you was using called coretemp? if so I am using that program to monitor my temps as corecenter will not work under xp x64. I have done some research on coretemp and people are reporting shutdown problems on some amd systems. I also have it in my startup folder!! I guess it never affected me when running bios 1.3. I think your issue was caused by coretemp and mine could be as well, can you confirm that it was coretemp that was giving you the shutdown problem?
