Bios settings noob....k9n sli platinum

my comp has been kind of unstable recently and im wondering if i need to change something in bios to help it run better. up untill this point ive owned dell's (glad to move on) and never really had the options to adjust voltage and what not. i have recently perchased a  EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Video Card - 896MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual and Corsair XMS 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (2x2048MB) i have a amd x64 2.4 ghz cpu and a 750 watt ultra psu. recently ive been playing in a game and the thing just stops dead....i men i cant do anything eccept hard reboot.i have done test on all hardware with a bootable diag cd that a comp store tech gave me and everything looks fine. so my only other option is setting i would think.also when this happend the second time the comp posted but then the screen just says disk read error press enter to retry.my hdd is a samsung 500 gig

Oh, I meant if you want over-standard performance it is not the memory you should start to overvolt, overclock etc. ...Please understand what I mean, and not what I write.    All starts and ends with the processor.
XP puts and receives signals in the compartments made up by the grid in the memory chip, one could say, by way of the processor. Speed is not relevant to XP.
Generally sensors have a hard time reading the frequency and vibration. What they can read is temp., voltage and fan rotation. Software, even XP, can read what the processor or memory says it is, and can calculate changes from settings you made.

  • Voltage settings for K9N SLI Platinum

    Hi There,
i was wondering i have Kingmax 4GB DDR2-800 which is 2x2gb sticks and my motherboard memory voltage s set at 1.9v is that correct or should it be higher or lower?

Are you running 64bit XP? Because 32bit systems don't like 4gb of mem they will accept it, but don't like it. In my system I had 4gb and when installing different programs it would lose the files. The program would exit with out installing. I had to remove 2gb to stablize my system of course if you are running 2 2gb sticks you can't. All of your mem is there and the system will use it, not saying this is what is happening to you. As long as you don't have any problems with the voltage increase and it stablizes the system you should have no problems.

  • K9N SLI Platinum & 5600+ W/Bios 1.2 Question?

    Hello all,
I recently purchased an X2 5600+ and will be installing it on my board in a couple of days when I receive the CPU.  I currently have BIOS 1.2 on my K9N SLI Platinum board and was wondering if any of you know if that particular BIOS will recognize the new CPU? (5600+)
Several new BIOS versions have been released and the latest is 1.6 but I am a person who goes by...  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you with insight.
    The Ice!

Just wanted to add my two cents.
BIOS 1.6 recognizes 6000+ as well, but it is a pain to update to 1.6 because a mobo with oroginal BIOS will not post
I did not have another CPU to flash BIOS, so what I did was just changing the multiplier in BIOS to 7 or 8, flashing the BIOS off a floppy drive and then changing multiplier back to 15.
    Nice!
Thanks for providing a solution.  I'm sure your discovery will help out a lot of people.

  • K9N SLI Platinum MS7250 ver1.1 ... need help with Windows 7 install

    Hello,
Having an intermittant issue with Windows 7 32bit.  During startup Windows 7 gets stuck at the logo screen.  Not always though.  Every 7-8th reboot it will make it past and go all the way into Windows 7.  I've tried all sorts of combinations of "ebabling/disabling".  This system ran XP professional for 3 years without any issues.  Currently, I have the most luck by connecting the keyboard and mouse to PS2 and leaving USB disabled.  This may not be the issue though.  Once I got Win7 to boot I performed driver updates etc.
If someone has suggestions please let me know.  I'm about to try the USB bios flash but have never done it before.
    Thank you,
    BK

    Video:  NVidia GeForce 7900GS
PSU:    600Watt  CoolerMaster ATX12V   12volt rails push around 18amps and I'm using the additional power port for power to the video card
Bios ver:   1.3  (this is what shows on the splash screen at startup however CPUID shows 080014 - not sure what that means)
    Motherboard:  K9N SLI Platinum MS7250 ver1.1

    Hi Guys,
    Thank you for the replies.
    -  Yes it is a fresh install of Windows7 on a drive that originally had XP Pro
    -  If I boot into safe mode it does go into Win7 most of the time.
    -  I posted on the MSI tech support page (http://support.msi.com/index.php) and the response was to upgrade the BIOS.  What do you think?
    -  I've been using this graphics card for three years and is nowhere near as powerful as what's out there now.  In fact all of the components are three years old except the RAM
    -  I tried the old RAM (2GB Corsair) and it also had the same issue.  Even at default RAM settings or otherwise.  Now I'm back to the 4GB Patriot Vipers.
    -  What is this capacitor problem people are referring to?  Is it a problem specifically on this model board?
    Thank you..

  • Can't open BIOs Set-up, K8N SLI Platinum, after re-flash

I used the USB Bio flash tool from the forum to re-flash the BIOs on my K8N SLI Platinum board to the latest BIOS from the MSI site, specs below.
After the re-flash, which seemed to go okay, I cleared the CMOS (turned off and unplugged computer, pushed the clear cmos button for about a minute), and re-booted.
I get a checksum error, no floppy found. I don't have a floppy drive in any case. But then I am unable to enter the bios. Pushing delete at boot gets me a screen that's blank, save for a cursor in the upper left corner. I can't enter anything from there, ESC key doesn't do anything. So I have to reboot.
I can get to the POST screen and pressing F1 allows the system to start and get to Windows, which seems to run okay. System shows that the new BIOS is installed. I just can't get into it to re-set to default settings.
If I turn off the computer, I get the checksum error again and in Windows clock and date have to be reset. But if I just reboot I just have to go through the no floppy found, then push f1 to get back to windows which has retained settings.
I tried  doing the flash procedure again and got same result. I haven't tried flashing back to the old BIOs yet. MSI's site only lists the most recent BIOs, my preference would be to try a different one, but not as old as the 2005 version that was on there.
Hopefully someone can tell me something obvious that I'm missing here.

I'd also like the RAM to run at at least 333, rather than the 200 something it runs at with this BIOS.
Check this with CPU-Z at "memory tab" ==> http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
BIOS post screen info can be incorrect., or current older BIOS by 200MHz it may means 400DDR In all cases its cosmetics,
the way of showing real of effective freq. can be changed in future version.
Also with four sticks it should be shown as either 333 or 166, not 200 or 400
Best check with CPU-Z how they are running
    Quote
It may now be possible to put something faster in there, but I don't know that for sure. But the 4000+ should improve performance a bit.
Such old CPU's can't be found easy in present days, also its not good investing to invest in old stuffs.
You want W7 and such, changing to the best CPU wont improve much the performance in overall..
Soon or later you have to change it, then this and eventually "newest" CPU which you gonna get will became useless.

  • K9N SLI PLATINUM low data transfer rate

Hi, (sorry for my pour english) I had to go back to Winxp native SATA/IDE drivers and my pc crash & BSOD problem it's gone! :D (BSOD when i install some programs or some games, listening music and moving data at the same time, etc.) now i'm available to execute multitasks without any troubles. But now the transference it's quite poor  , I think this is an easy and temporary solution for this big problem.
I bought my PC on 2006 and the Windows XP drivers are from 2001, aren't new Nvidia/MSI drivers to fix this annoying problem?
    Thanks.

I've got nearly the same problem, but a little worse. My data transfer rate seems very slow for a 100mb network and if I start copying files over the network, after only a couple of megs I lose connectivity to the network completely! I've removed the network cable and windows notices this, and when I put it back in windows also notices the change, but the green and orange lights on the port itself stay on solid. If I reboot windows everything comes back. I don't have problems browsing the web, seems to only happen when the ethernat port is running close to full load (for the connection speed of 100mb as apposed to 1gb).
Anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest drivers, the latest bios and I've tried disabling on of the network ports in the bios but his didn't work.

HEY GUYS FINALLY GOT A ANSWER FROM MSI Co.
According to this best thing is RMA..
    Dear Kamal,
We have fixed this issue by changing C565 from 100pF to 220pF. All the stock had been reworked, and we have informed all the MSI™ Distributor locators.
So please get your MB for RMA.
As to the RMA, The normal procedure is to contact your reseller (the place you bought the board from) for repair/exchange , If the reseller for some reason like bankrupt cannot be contacted, then contact MSI distributor http://www.msi.com.tw/program/contact/where2buy/ or MSI office near your place http://www.msi.com.tw/program/about/w2b/index.php
    Sorry for any inconveniency.

  • K9N SLI Platinum reboots while playing games

    PSU Coolmax AP-450 (CX-400)
The system is stable when I browse email and such, but as soon as I play games I'm getting reboots. Blue screen of death a couple times. I bought a couple more fans for my case (waiting to see if it makes a difference when it arrives). It may be getting to hot. I have been reading and perhaps the PSU is not good enough or compatible. I haven't checked the memory yet, But i would think that it would reboot consistantly not just in games if that were a problem. Does anyone have a solution for me?
    Thanks,

I had the same problems as you have.
The fix I did was, downloaded the drivers for AMD dual core processors from the AMD website.
Make sure you have your RAM set to 2.1V.
It's nothing to do with the PSU.
"It's nothing to do with the PSU."
cant agree, there is alot of issues with the same symptoms. it may crap or overload PSU also.

  • MSI K9N SLI Platinum - SATA not hot-swappable?

can i get a confirmation that K9N SLI Platinum motherboard does NOT support hot-swapping the SATA drives. I switched to this board for the AM2 socket and now i am not seeing the removable drive bays as hot-swappable (ie. no green arrow down by the clock). maybe i am missing a bios setting?

I check two machines today and one is just fine using the removable trays and any drives we put in there show up in the 'safely remove hardware' tool. the other machines does NOT detect any drives inserted while the machine is powered on and something else - under the 'policies' tab the top two choices ('optimize for quick removal' instead of 'optimize for performance') are greyed out but there is an option below them that i can check and uncheck (i cannot remember the exact title of this option).
I assume you are trying the same drives when you swap the removable trays between the two machines.  Some drives have a jumper that has to be removed to enable SATA II operation, so if they aren't the same physical drives you might want to check that.
I think the stuff below the greyed out area in your 'Policies' tab is a check box that enables/disables write caching.  You might want to try checking/unchecking that.
Also, you should check out the IDE/ATA Controller selection in the Device Manager.  Take a look at each instance of controller that shows up there.  SATA controllers actually a primary and secondary channel and each channel has a master and a slave drive, just like old IDE controllers.  Look at each tab on both machines and make sure all of the drive's features are set identically on these tabs.  Sometimes Windows can try to outsmart you. For example, I have an SATA II Maxtor drive that has its transfer mode downgraded to SATA I by Windows (there is a little yellow triangle with a '!' in the middle of the lower part of the panel).  The help balloon for this arrtibutes it to 'excessive transfer errors.'  I haven't tried to chase that one down yet, however.
As far as setting the machines up the same way, sometimes the sequence of driver installations can have an effect.  For example, a RAID driver installed during Windows setup using the 'F6 - install other driver' option can behave differently from one installed with the Device Manager 'Update Driver' function.
Sorry I can't be of more help here.
Maybe someone else in this forum is a bit more knowledgable on the subject.

  • K9n SLI Platinum + 4x1GB = Cold

Got som problems running my K9n SLI platinum with 2x VS2GBKIT667D2 (= 4x1GB dimms)

But when i put in all 4 of them I got Major Freezing problems.
    Memtest86+ works fine.
But in XP it freezez, in Vista it freezes.
Trying to install Vista with 4GB it freezes before the installation program even starts..
    Any helpfull thoughts?

V-ICE, there are at least 3 more people (myself included) who are having this "HT sync flood" error. All of us have K9N motherboards with V1.7 BIOS:
    - K9N SLI Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (V-ICE)
    - K9N SLI Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (TomMe)
    - K9N4 Ultra-F + BIOS 7310v17 (zzkey)
    - K9N Platinum + BIOS 7250v17 (Grawp)
I think there is a problem with those BIOS versions. I've had 3 K9N SLI Platinum boards, never had that error before. Only with my latest board + v1.7 BIOS.
Have you had any "overclock failed" messages so far?

  • K9N SLI Platinum - RAID 0 problems

    Hi everyone,
    I've just assembled a new pc with a K9N SLI Platinum (PCB Ver: 1.1; BIOS Ver: 1.3), 1GB (2x512MB DIMM1 & 3) Kingston KVR667, 2 Maxtor SATA-II disks, GF 7300GS with 256MB DDR2.
I'm able to install windows with one disk but can't do it with both disks setup as raid 0.
I've tried both Sata Raid Driver from cd and from MSI website.
With the driver from the cd windows setup finds the raid and starts installation, but freezes somewhere (totally random) without finishing.
With the driver downloaded from the website windows setup can't find the raid.
    Any hints?
    Thanks

I tried once again to install windows and this time setup finished successfully and the computer boots from the raid. So my first question: what is the relation between the bootable option at the raid setup and the fact that the system booted without it?
I doubt that the removal of the floppy from the bootable devices list has anything to do with the successful install...
Well if it is grayed out in the RAID setup is because it is already Bootable, as for the removal of the floppy from the bootable devices, there are things that only the gods of the computers know...
Quote from: manuelmont on 25-September-06, 07:13:09
Everything seemed to work ok but the computer started to freeze once again during installation of other software which made the system unstable.
Then I replace the graphics card with an ATI X300 (just for testing) and the system became stable. I installed software, played some games without problems. As the GF 7300GS I removed works on another pc this seems to be some compatibility problem between the MB and the GF (turbocache?).
I used Sisoft Sandra 2007 Lite to test/benchmark the system. All the tests were almost normal (except memory - benchmark showed values a bit lower than I expected!) but I could not run Physical Disks Benchmark module neither Physical Disks Hardware module (but could benchmark the file system). What does this mean?
The disks are in fact DiamonMax 17 (6G160E0) but I'll try another brand as well, these are the only disks. On the IDE channel I only have one dvd recorder.
Your PSU has way to low amperage for that system, the test is the change you made from a superior GFX to a lower end one, the NX7300GS eats alot of amps in comparison to the X300, and it does not have nothing to do with the TurboCache feature.
As for Sisoft Sandra I don't use that "I'm a potty mouth" (pardon my french ) I use Lavalys Everest or for disks HDtach, and others.
You could not test the physical disks because they are in RAID mode, but you can test or benchmark the logical disks because they are the partitions you created in the physical disks and are divided by the 2 disks, half in one half in the other...
I hope this will shed some light into the questions...
    Be well....

    I tried, 32bit and 64bit. both failed.

  • Orange slot in MSI K9N SLI Platinum

    Quick and Dirty:
What cards can I use in the Orange slot for in the K9N SLI Platinum?
    Details:
I currently have the K8N Neo4 Platinum and am upgrading from 939 to socket AM2. I want the K9N SLI Platinum board but NEED 3 PCI slots. The three cards I need are Promise Ultra ATA/133 card, Soundblaster X-Fi sound card, Belkin wireless G LAN card. The K9N has three slots but that INCLUDES the orange slot but I don't know what its for.
I tried the wireless card in the orange slot but i can't get the drivers to install and "accept" the card. Works fine when I switch back to white slot. I'm afraid without 3 slots I cannot purchase the board. Any solutions?

    Tried:
Raid card installed without a hitch, first time installing that in this system.
    Also tried:
Moved X-Fi from two slots down into the orange slot, was working immediately after bootup. I'm psyched beyond belief.
Will be buying the K9N Platinum. Thanks for the info.

  • Is there a new bios coming for P6N SLI Platinum for E8400 ?

         Hi everyone,
( My system specs are in the signature )
I have been thinking to upgrade my cpu to E8400, but after some time passing through the forums, internet and asking some of my friends, I have decided not to. This is because I have seen many people frustrated and trying get their E8xxx's working on their moboard with endless efforts because of the wrong information given in the CPU support list of P6N-SLI Platinum. Yet, I have seen that only a few people have managed to get it work but with risky, manual adjustments.
So here is my question, will there be a new bios for P6N SLI Platinum that will make E8xxx series post without any adjustments for the users that want to stick with their P6N SLI Plat.?
