BIOS - settings, versions, hidden features...I need to know!
I am new to 939 and 64bit and MSI.
I am trying to get everything ready before I get my board.
I saw that latest official BIOS is 1.2 but then I saw some 1.51 or 1.52 BIOS...what are those?
Whats the best BIOS for overclocking?
I am also new to new BIOS settings.
There is some videoHAMMER setting I heard of, some ATi/nVidia video speed up feature...
What are they? Anything in particular that I should change?
I know of AGP/PCI locks, know of RAM timngs, FSB, multi, HTT, and usual stuff.
I know your new here. But please read the stickies. They cover most of the questions you would have such as this...
Please also post your specs in your signature so we can answer questions as you have them...

I am on version 10.5 and need to know how to get to lion?
i am currently running 10.5 on my macbook and need to know how to get upgraded to Lion?
First you would need to check to make sure your system meets the requirements, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629 Then purchase Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, then use the App store to purchase and install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

I downloaded a music download app. I had to reset my phone I retrieved the app but cannot retrieve the full version I had already purchased. The pro version. How do I get the pro version back? I've tried everything

TO SVET! bios hidden features for msi gx660r
Hi everybody,
I'm Roberto from Italy, wondering if it's possible to have a modded bios release for my wonderful notebook gx660r, capable on enabling hidden features for optimal tuning: in particular i would like to manually set ddr3 frequency and different precentage of overclock when using msi turbo hotkey...doy yoy think i can get it? no problem for a donation of course!
best regards from Italy!Quote from: fantabrothe on 11-February-12, 21:17:01
Hello Svet! great job with your bios v.2 (based on 3.j bios version), finally taken by courage i've updated it and it works very nice.
I use a i7 840 qm, now finally with ddr3 at 1333mhz.
Need to ask you what's the meaning of "enable extreme edition" option, since i would like to run all 4 cores to a fixed radio ( for instance 3ghz in every core, not only in one) there's a way to do it?
Since you've edited a new version based on 3.L it worth an upgrade for me? new features? major compatibility with ssd? thanks for your kind reply and good work!

Dunno, in latest version "L" has this visible changes:
"Bug Fix: Win7 can't display all memory size."

URGENT HELP NEEDED (Bios Settings Failed)
Hey Guys,
I am having problems with my MSI Board, and don't know what to do. I am very much a noob to BIOS/and modding so I apologize in advance. You guys helped me a few months ago getting everything up and running and all was great for months. Then last night I walked away from my PC for a while and when i came back a starting screen was on saying my OC Settings Failed to load, i tried other versions I saved and they all failed as well. I ended up loading failsafe options, and got the "double start" where the computer turns on, then instantly shuts off, then turns on again. This allowed me to load windows 7, which then started to "install updates". So i think while i was away Windows automatically updated and rebooted... but would that effect my BIOS settings?
As I said, I had my system running perfect for months no errors or crashes at all based on the Bios setting you guys help me with in this thread: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147854.0
However, last week I removed the heat sink and installed this cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181010&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Water+Cooling-_-Corsair-_-35181010
All I did was unhook everything from the MB, install the cooler, and then hook everything back up to the MB. The only thing I may have done wrong is not connect the SATA devices (my HDs and ROMS) back in the spots they were in originally. However after I installed the cooler, they system booted right up, and I haven’t had any problems with my system for the past two weeks. I also should note I didnt make any BIOS changes either after I installed the cooler. So I don’t know if I should have done something there. Yet, like I said the system has been fine for the past two weeks, no crashes or errors... it wasn’t until last night after Windows auto updated that this has begun.
The reason I need "URGENT HELP" is because of course I just a new job with deadlines due and so much video editing work I need to do. I would be fine leaving it on failsafe settings, and forgetting the OC setting all together if I new that would make the system stable. But considering its still doing the "double start" even in failsafe mode, im afraid if i start working my system will crash.
So I am begging anybody for any advice or help they could provide. I will provide my system info below. If anybody can guide me as to what settings I should set in BIOS i would appreciate it. Or perhaps there’s a BIOS update that I should use now that I have a cooler and not a heat sink? If you need any more information from me, just ask. I will be monitoring this thread all day, as I desperately need help.
MY SYSTEM:
Intel 980X chip running Win 7 64bit (with MSI BigBang xPower MB installed in my old Dell XPS 730X)

UPDATE: Since I posted somebody messaged me mentioned I should have "reset the CMOS" after I installed the new cooler. So I did that, and now they system starts fine without the "double start". I am able to load one of my saved OC settings now as well (but any others causes a failure).
NEW QUESTIONS:
1. Since I reset the CMOS and now the system is starting fine on my last OC settings, is it safe to assume the sytem is stable for now?
2. I never made any power changes or BIOS changes after I installed the new cooler. Should I have?
3. After I reset the CMOS was I soupposed to reinstall the drivers from the MSI disk again? I did not, and the system seems to be fine, but I thought I was soupposed to do that after a CMOS reset.
4. Is there a new BIOS version for my setup that may be better now? Im currently on v1.5
Here is a screenshot from CPUZ of the system information currently. This is with it booting normally after my CMOS reboot. I just figured id post it incase it helps with any of my questions. Thanks so much for helping guys! -

Change your user config mode in dram configuration to manual and change your memory timing to 1T. The 1T setting will speed up your memory slightly. -

Hidden BIOS settings on Satellite P100
Finaly a new BIOS is released! Sweet!
Hmmm But my issues still remains, graphic fan never idles... The strange thing is that, just after updating the bios 4.10 to 4.20 my graphic fan spins down to idle :) but after reboot the issue remains?!
I have the latest Intel chipset driver installed and Nvidia driver delivered by Toshiba.
For example:
1: Entering Bios (4.20)
2: change the thermal control setting to Silent-mode
3: F10= "save and exit"
4: Entering bios again, the thermal settings is set as desiered. OK!
5: Loading OS windows vista, selecting reboot when the first screen appear "enter password"
6: Entering bios during boot, Now the thermal setting is set to Preformans-mode again??
Next thing! How do I open the "Advance Hidden" bios settings. Aopen motherbord is by pressing ctrl+F1 at the main window of bios. How do I do the same with Pheonix? I have tested Alt+Ctrl+D, Alt+Ctrl+Esc and Alt+Ctrl+Ins (The common procedure for Penonix Bios according to www.safeit.se/support/faq/blancco.html)
RegardsHello
As far as I know there are no hidden BIOS settings. If something like this persists it is definitely not for public usage. ;)
About graphic fan I can not say much but please be sure you use Toshiba provided drivers. Dong this you are definitely on the safe way. -
Need BIOS Settings for 180 and AMD XP2400+
Greetings all.
Here is my configuration;
MSI Mega 180 Deluxe
Western Digital 200GB 7200rpm
Athlon XP2400+ Thoroughbred
1x DDR400 512MB PC3200 (Infineon w/Heatsink)
Sony DVD+/-R Dual layer Drive
Gigabyte FX5200 128MB TV out/DVI
MS Windows XP Pro SP2
This is the 1st system I have built and I am a bit confused on what to set in the BIOS to get my processor running at its rated speed. The BIOS reports it at 1.84ghz. I set the FSB to 166. What else do I need to do (and where do I look) to remedy this?
CPU Spd 3700
Sys 46c
CPU 58c
With WinAmp playing and writing this.
Artic Silver on the Heatsink.
I have searched the messages on this forum but find nothing that answers my questions.
Thanks for your responses.Update:
I emailed MSI tech support with the problem and this is what they said:
Dear Customer,
Update the bios to version 3.5, which you can download from this link. And set the cpu fsb to 133 for a thoroughbred cpu, and 166 for a sempron cpu.

Did what they said.
Set FSB to 133
BIOS says 1433 mhz. No change from before.
I reset the FSB to 166 and it now runs at 1866 mhz (rated 2ghz)
As far as the cooling problem, I haven't touched the Heatsink/Cooling fans yet.
Temp dropped when I lowered the FSB.
I bolted a 92mm Fan to the outside of the case (Biohazard grille) and the temp now runs at 48c CPU and 36c Chassis.
Plan to do the fan reversal this weekend and maybe the lapping. -
Ideal BIOS Settings for online gaming
this is my 1st computer that i built. i have a lot of experience in wiring high-end electronics, so wiring this little rig with barely any visible wires/cables was a breeze. I bought the processor/mobo with the intention of only doing minor O/C as i dont really know all that much on the hardware side of improving performance. with that said, i've searched for timings and settings for my specific combination, and i cant find any. again, i dont really want to push the config past a safe level, as i will be selling this machine when the 64's come down in price. can someone help me set the proper frequencies/timings? i have a lot to learn, and even in the normal bios settings i don't know if certain things should be enabled or disabled for my main purpose, which is to simply play 3D online games very fast. i will be changing out the GeforceFX5200 PCI for a 5600 AGP in a week or so. I'm noticing that my old Comcrap PIII 1.0Ghz w/512SDRAM with this video card gets just as good a ping ingame as this rig does. the machine starts quickly, runs offline programs quickly, but online it isnt as fast as i'd hoped. from what i've read in the other forums, there are many settings in the bios that are enabled by default that don't need to be. can someone help me decipher which settings are useful and which are not. i loosely understand some of the settings but if someone could help with the questions below and/or do a walkthru for bios geared toward gaming i'd really appreciate it. The machine runs very cool (CPU 104*F/SYS 93*F) but i dont know what else needs adjustment. I simply want to make this machine go as fast and as hard as it can with the right config. i don't want to unlock the processor yet or do anything else major at this point.
1: Best yet safe Voltage for my processor and RAM
2: FSB clock; 133 or 166? had problems @ 200
3: S.M.A.R.T. on or off?
4: Best IRQ/PCI slot for video card
5: "GoodMEM" utility: how much should i safely allot?
6: Video BIOS Cacheable?
7: Multiplier setting for K7N2DeltaL & XP2600+
8: VGA Aperture (my card is 128MB but PCI. upgrading soon)
i'll be learning more as i go along, so i dont really need a full explanation of what's what, lol THIS TIME. all i need is a rundown where someone tells me what to leave alone, and what to change for a very fast yet safe gaming rigOK I'm officially confused.
I bought the retail boxed AthlonXP2600+, which clearly states on the packaging "With 333 MHZ Frontside Bus". i bought the board over others, one reason being it supported 400MHz FSB. I go into "Advanced Chipset Features" and when i set the "System Performance" to "Manual", i can then go into the "CPU FSB Clock" settings, but the max it will allow me to go to is 233MHz (which won't boot and i have to flip the jumpers. when i had set it to 200MHz before, it failed to boot as well... PLEASE can someone look over these settings and tell me the OPTIMAL settings for taking this combo as fast as it can go w/o overclocking? What am i doing wrong? what multiplier do i need to be at. I'm under the impression that the combo works best when the clock speed of the board is at the same speed as the processor. here are the BIOS settings with which i need advice:

Ideal KT4V BIOS settings for XP2500+ Barton
I've read AMD's recommendations for the KT4V BIOS settings http://www.amdforums.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=186506 , but they seem to be very generic. I would like to know the settings that would give me the highest performance, without causing any instability, using my present system and usage. My son does 3D animation and gaming on this computer. This is a stand alone computer (no network). The latest version BIOS for the KT4V offers an option in Power Management Features to enable CPU HALT Command Detection. I heard that this would work better than Cooler XP in cooling the CPU. I enabled it and my CPU Temp dropped 6-10 degrees C. Is this recommended? What is the down side of this action? My system is as follows: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ w/ Vantec VA4-C7040 CPU fan (w/Arctic Silver 3) MSI KT4V mobo Gainward Golden Sample Ti/450 TV w/ 128MB DDR (GeForce3 Ti 200) 2 - Kingston 512MB PC2700 DDR RAM Antec TRUE550 power supply 1 - 40GB 7200RPM hard drive 1 - 30GB 5400RPM hard drive 1 - CD-ROM 1 - CD-RW 1 - floppy drive Windows XP home Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Barry
As a result of my research, these are the BIOS settings that I am using. My computer runs well and is stable.

I have problems booting to any operating system but DOS on Toshiba Satellite 1410 (in very good physical condition) after few years of inactivity (drained down main battery and CMOS battery - now they're charged)
Windows stops with BSOD (error 0x0000008e), Linux stops with kernel panic, bad_area_nosemaphore and IRQ error.
Plain MS-DOS 7.10 seems to run OK.
BIOS was 1.40 with main password set. After first boot it displayed request for entering password and pressing F1 key to set the hardware clock. Now it doesn't display this message anymore.
Two memory modules (Nanya - 256 MB, 266 MHz, CL 2,5) are OK - checked on different versions of MemTest86+
(Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool hangs when starting!)
I dismantled laptop and cleaned very small amount of dust inside with compressed air. Changed thermal paste on the processor (Celeron M 1,8) and bridge. Turned laptop on with extension cards, battery and disk and without them also.
It didn't help.
I flashed the CMOS with BIOS 1.20, 1.30 and 1.40 back again. None of the versions didn't let booting neither Windows nor Linux.
MS-DOS, PC-DOS, FreeDOS still run OK.
What's more interesting - after flashing procedure all BIOS settings were intact (booting priority, battery saving mode, etc.). And yes - I removed the password before flashing!
I was suspicious about problems occuring when laptop was entering 32-bit mode and checked it with Video Memory Stress Test.
When CMOS was flashed with 1.20 BIOS above test was running flawlessly. However, with 1.30 and 1.40 version it stopped >>Unhandled Exceptopn "Access Denied"<< in 8th iteration when lucky. Most of the time it stopped after 2nd or 3rd iteration after framebuffer subtest.
So my question are:
- did CMOS lost its settings or somehow they were corrupted after long period of laptop's inactivity?
- is Video extension of this BIOS flashable?
- why the settings are NOT restored to defaults after each CMOS flashing?
- or maybe there is some hidden switch/option to CHGBIOSA flasher to reset non-flashable CMOS area?
- or is my built-in Video Card (nVidia NV17M) or IRQ enumerator dead?Hi Jerry! I think I'm on board now, anyway I hope so. I removed both devices and switched them around. The device manager shows two USB devices. One is Mass Storage and one is Composite. I don't realy know which one is the 1TB and which one is the 16 GB. In my boot menu, it just says USB now?? My laptop only has three USB ports. Two on the right and One on the left. I have a wireless mouse plugged in one of the ports on the right as you can see in device manager. I hope this is what you were asking. I can be a little thick headed at times, so let me know what else you want me to try Thank you for your kind reply. It really means a lot to me.
Dokie!
