BIOS update crashed G530 4446-23U Win 7 32 bit

I have installed latest BIOS upgrade from Lenovo  and my laptop crashed. (June 24 2011)
Will not boot, Lenovo restore doesn't help, can't boot from Windows 7 DVD
Does anyone know of a utility to create a bootable USB (or disk) BIOS flash
to roll-back to a working version of BIOS?
Lenovo G530 4446-23U, no HDMI support
Operating system: Windows 7, 32Bit.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Yeah.... Warranty .... Thank you!
This is a solution which actually works;
It was recommended by a brilliant friend who is not associated with Lenovo:
create bootable usb flash drive
here is a link to download wintoflash utility:
       http://download.cnet.com/WinToFlash/3000-2094_4-10974471.html
Unzip 6get19ww.exe to the usb flash drive to a folder (for example C:\SOS)
boot computer from newly created usb flash drive (if Windows doesn't work, use command prompt)
locate an old bios file on a crashed machine. It should be name bios.bak
copy located file to another folder with the name bios.wph for example (C:\SOS\bios.wph)
run WinPhlash.exe from a folder (for example C:\SOS)
specify backup file for existing BIOS as bios1.bak
specify new BIOS file as C:\SOS\BIOS.WPH
flash BIOS
Everything WORKS!

  • BIOS Update Fail - Aspire XC-603G Win 8.1

Hello,I have searched here for a couple days and read a bunch of posts - some of which I have tried.   I am NOT trying to go back down to Win 7 (though I really like Win 7)  I am trying to stick with Win 8.1. I was running BIOS P11-A1 and suddenly started having trouble with the USB 3.0 controller.I read some posts here and on other forums that stated I should see if there is a BIOS update. There are actually four for this machine and so I started with the oldest one P11-B0LTTo be honest the instructions in the README pdf file were not that helpfulbut I found soem great data on the AMI website that helped me update to P11-B0L. I ran the BIOS-DOS.BAT file first but got this error: "4 - Error: ROM File ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID"So I went ahead and ran the AFUDOS file without all the parameters in the batch file and everything updated fine. But I am still having troubles with the USB 3.0 controller and the process just seemed to be fairly complex. Both my HP's and three other Dell's had Flash BIOS programs, or simple instructions that worked with no problems. Was I just getting lucky with them and there is some hidden UEFI and/or MS-DOS secret ritual that I am missing here ?Am I perhaps using the incorrect BIOS update file - and if so which one should I use ?  Thanks,-Bil

Thanks that makes sense.  Would of course be nice if Acer didn't offer them as options when one selects Win 8.1 as the OS.Or at least put that note in the description for each. I of course got jammed up when I forced the next BIOS version (with the "L") after B2 worked fine. She was hanging up at the POST so I cleared the CMOS by swapping the jumper pins.I then put the B2 BIOS on the USB and renamed it AMIBOOT.ROM and I am back to a functioning box. USB 3.0 controller is still DOA but I am probably going to dump this MB for one with a couple PCI slots.I have been wanting to dump the Celeron POS anyhow - and this will be my tester for Win 10. Thanks again for the info and maybe it will help the next poor soul...Consider this one resolved -bil

  • Notebook does not start after BIOS Update crash

    Hi all,
I just want to ask whether is a chance to reactivate my Satellite A300 after a BISO update crash without send it to the Toshiba service.
I downloaded the new BISO and started it from the Windows menu. After a few seconds my PC crashed and everything was frozen.
    I switched off the PC.
Now when I press the power button to start the Notebook the monitor is black and I can hear a sound brrr, brrr, brrr from the CD-Rom drive.
Do you think it is possible to boot from a CD or something like that. Is it possible to reactivate my notebook?
Your help would be really appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    Best regards,
    Chotte

Sorry but if the BIOS chip is damaged there is no much you can do about it. You must contact authorized Toshiba service provider.

  • Qosmio F50-10Z Bios update crashed - how do I reset cmos?

I have a Qosmio F50-10Z and as prompted by toshiba I downloaded the Bios update and began to install.
My screensaver came on and the whole thing crashed.
Would not turn off (even after holding down power button for 15 secs).
Took battery out and then put it back in. Computer powers on but screen is blank and won't boot up.
Tried to take it apart to flash the bios by taking out rtc/cmos battery (whatever it's called) but can't find the battery and got to the point where I wasn't willing to take it apart any further (has no-one else ever taken one apart?
Couldn't find information or diagram or photo of where the battery was on net...manual for laptop really unhelpful)
Have found comments about crisis disks but I don't know what this means.
So, how to I reset bios?
Please help - you are my only hope.

Thanks for your comments. Do you know where I can download a Bios flasher or Bios recovery crisis disk from? There seem to be a lot floating around forums but I cannot find anything specifically for my laptop. Am I missing something on the Toshiba website? I have seen people mention downloading a bios flash utility from toshiba (specifically for the F45) but can't figure out where they are getting this from...
In response to your recommendation - I know that is what I am encouraged to do but I'm in the UK - my nearest Toshiba recommended technicians are PC world conglomerate - the sort of guys who pat me on the head when I ask for specific RAM (rather than 'some memory, please'), look blankly at you when you say the word Bios, and bang their mouse when the computer freezes! Besides, they want 50 up front whether or not they manage to fix it, and given how many of my friends computers they have failed to fix that my boyfriend then fixed in ten minutes, I might as well burn my money as send it to them.

Toshiba EU BIOS page does not provide any change log details.

My laptop has now been updating for 3 hours at the programming step 3 of 37 stage on BIOS flash and is completely frozen it wont do anything at all.
I know I shouldnt turn it off,but gave that a try and even that wouldnt work.
Its just sat humming and I dont know what to do with it.
    Any ideas would be great
    Thanks

    Hi,
    > My laptop has now been updating for 3 hours at the programming step 3 of 37 stage on BIOS flash and is completely frozen it wont do anything at all.
The Bios update takes several minutes to complete. it looks like that the Bios failure process goes wrong. If you turn it off, you will get a blank screen. I even don't know what to advise you. You can wait but I don't think it finishes well.
The bad thing is that you have to go to ASp (service center) and ask them to reflash for money. Unfortunately, there is no warranty for Bios failure

  • Yoga 2 Pro Went DEAD After BIOS Update

Had a horrible experience .. with good ending ... when upgrading Bios for my Yoga 2 Pro. So I'd like to share with others. I bought my Yoga 2 Pro last June (Man 3/22/14) and love it! But, it had problem restarting automatically after Windows Update. At least 3 times (That I can recall. Did not use it briefly from June 30 - July 22), the screen reminding user not to shutdown after Windows the update would stay on until I manually powered it down and restarted it. Last July 23, it did again after Windows Update. Searched Lenovo web-site and found a Bios Update for Yoga 2 Pro (Win 8.1 64-bit). Downloaded the new Bios (dated July 11, 2014) and went through the instruction striclty. First of, the screen responses were not at all as detailed in the instruction. So, the instruction is not very good.  Received 2 warnings: Make sure the laptop is connected to the charger during the procedure, and the bios is for Yoga 2 Pro ONLY do not install it on any other models. As part fo the procedure, the laptop switched to a Bios Utility program. Again received the aforementioned warnings. Update progress was shown on the screen. All of a sudden, then screen went blank and the keyboard stayed lit. Waited for about 30 minutes. Still the same. Press and held the power button down (not sure for how long)  ... nothing!   Just no response from the latop.  Called Tech support. She (the tech support lady) said that ... it is not recommended for user to go through the BIOS upgrade! What?  Then why post it on Lenovo.com? She also said that I should not have downloaded software from the internet and upgrade, especially for BIOS. Well, I told her that I did not download the program from ANY web-site, I downloaded it from LENOVO.com. She said further that looks like the BIOS update had damaged my mother-board, there is a problem with Win 8 & 8.1, and because it was my own doing ... the damage would not be covered by the warranty!  Considering the circumstance, Lenovo would waiver the initial $99 fee to assess the damage, but I would have to pay for any repair costs. In any case, I was so fumed at Lenove Tech Support responses that I hung up. close my laptop and put it aside. Almost 24 hours later, when the battery drained completely, I connected the laptop to the charger, press the power button to turn it on ... and ... to my surprise, the laptop booted and everything came back normal! The last (7/25) auto restart seemed to go well. Not sure if the auto restart problem is fixed with the new BIOS, but it seems to be. Time will tell.

Thank you for your posting.  I searched the net when I ran into the problem, but could not find any help.  Obviously, my search was not exhaustive. I was trying to make the following:    a.  Lenov should be more specific in their BIOS update instruction.  Their instruction was ... far ... far from reality.      b.  Lenovo tech assistance was ... not much help.  After listening to the description of my prolem, the tech lady immediately said that the operation must have damaged the mother-board, and that the operation is not ... recommended.  No guidance on draining the battery a or how to restart the machine, etc...  What I received was confusing that caused more panic!   As a note, I had done BIOS upgrade on DELL PC/laptop before w/o any problem.  I fully understand the implication of a BIOS upgrade, but trusted that manufacturer fully tested whatever that they post in their web-site.  Oh well, live ... and learn!  All in all, the Yoga 2 Pro is a great machine and I love it!  Hope that anyone who runs into the same problem will be able to get the needed help in time! Cheers,

  • B590 (20208) BIOS update/version

I recently bought a B590 Notebook (20208) that shows installed BIOS as H5ET69WW (1.12), running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1. When I run the BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo B490, B590 I get the message: "BIOS image file is older than BIOS ROM. Do you want to continue?", which I have not
In what may be a related issue, enabling Hardware Assisted Virtualization (Intel VT) in my BIOS does not seem to take effect in my system. (And yes, I have changed the setting with a cold boot.)
How or where can I find out exactly which BIOS version I should have on my machine? (I've looked everywhere to no avail.)
    Lenovo Essentials B590 (20208), Windows 7 Professional SP1
    I blog, therefore I am

neokenchi, thank you for the reply. As it turns out, the VT issue was not directly related to the BIOS version, as a clean W7 install from a Lenovo recovery disk solved that particular problem. The o/s still won't recognize VT if memory protection is enabled in the BIOS, but I can live with that disabled.
It was the VT issue that led me to wonder if I had the right BIOS for my machine, as there is a possibilty that the BIOS may have been changed somewhere along the line after it left Lenovo. Coupled with the fact that the most recent version on the Lenovo download page for my model is older than the one I have (which seemed unusual), that led to my concern, and my original question here.
Since then, at the suggestion of a Lenovo hardware support specialist, I did attempt to flash the update availabe from Lenovo (making sure to disable rollback prevention in the BIOS), which failed from both the BIOS update utility in Windows and the ISO version on a CD, with the following messages (without making any changes to the BIOS):
exe version: Invalid file when SecureFlash is on in ROM
iso version: The system program file is damaged
So I remain with the BIOS that was on my machine when I bought it, and while everything seems to be working well, I am still wondering if there is any way to find out the BIOS version (by which I mean the full BIOS definition, not the 1.12) that was shipped, in case any further issues arise in the future.

  • Satellite L300D - Won't load after BIOS update

I had to update my bios & it seems that the wrong one was downloaded about 3% into installing the laptop just died & won't go back on.
There are no lights & there is no noise from the laptop at all.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D

    Hello
Well, if BIOS update crashed you can do nothing because the ROM module must be reflashed. This can only be done with special tools and only an authorized service provider has such tools.
So please contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help :)

  • [HUGE BUG] Z87-G43 After 1.50 bios update

Hi, i was used to the 1.30 bios and had no problem at all.
But Live Update 5 told me there is a new bios update: 1.50, i couldn't resist to *upgrade* :(
Now i can boot my computer 1 time every 10, the others seems like i have some huge problem with the UEFI.
I normally boot with UEFI SSD (Samsung 840 PRO 128gb) with GPT partition and all with Msi Fast Boot enabled, now i'm scared to turn msi fast boot on! If i can't reach windows to disable msi fast boot i can't reach the bios too.
When i turn on the computer it ends up in one of those possible scenarios:
    - UEFI Shell listing some of the devices
    - UEFI Shell listing all the devices
    - A try to load from SSD without UEFI resulting in "MS-DOS like" error "Boot disk not present"
    - Windows Boot loader loads and tell me he can't reach the Disk. Hitting reply *some* times (sometime 1, sometime 2, sometime 3) result in proper OS boot
    - Windows Boots correctly
This is totally random, when i enter the bios *SOMETIMES* i can see the UEFI HD icon blue (so it can find it), and *SOMETIMES* its grayed.
Do i have a way to rever to 1.30 bios? Or is a fixed version of the 1.50 bios coming? Now i know that if i power off my pc i don't know when i can power on it again :\
If needed i can post a video of that (hoping to reach windows again)
    2 more info:
    1) i always have the windows watermark "SecureBoot is not configured correctly", but i had it from before the bios upgrade
    2) the bios updater crashed after the *windows reset* input, so i had the "Restarting" screen in full screen and i saw for some second that crash alert

hi, i resetted cmos and leaved only the ram in slot 2.
Maybe it's just luck but now i can boot to windows a little more easily!
Here what happened after the cmos reset:
    Boot #
    Result
    1
Bios alerted me about the CMOS reset, i pressed continue and i got the "ms-dos like" error "boot disc error or not present". Rebooted, and the bios says the first device is the UEFI HD, so i have no idea what's going on
    2
    Boot to windows
    3
Efi Shell with full list of devices
    4-10
    Boot to Windows correctly
After this i did a manual shutdown and i had 2 boot to full list Efi shell.
Another shutdown and i goes to windows recovery utility.
Another shutdown and windows booted up correctly 2 times
    and.. now.. i'm here

  • Satellite L - After BIOS update the screen is black

    Hello,
I made a BIOS update on my Windows 7 64 bit and then the OS get frozen. After I restarted the laptop, there is only black and nothing appears on the laptop.
    What can I do?

    Hi
Have you tried to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor? You should test this and after one hour you can connect both devices again.
In worst case you need help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can try to reflash the ROM module.
Sorry, but I think in this case you can do nothing.
