  • HP dv7 1150us won't boot after bios update

I have a HP dv7 1150us that I was given to replace my other HP that died.  I put my hard drive from my other Laptop in this one, it ran good.  I was updating the drivers for the new PC, there was a Bios update, I did it.  When my laptop rebooted it would not go past POST and the caps lock & number lock are flashing 4 times, pause, and repeat.  Other then buy a new motherboard is there anything else I can do?

Please try the BIOS Recovery method
see if this does the trick,

  • After bios update sound is going to headset. can't get sound to speakers - Pavillion dv7-6c67nr

windows-7 64 bit. Installed BIOS update from HP Support Assistant, No sound from laptop speakers. Clinked on speaker icon, showed sound going to the headphones and not speakers. No luck changing. No headphones ever

    Hi kcperry,
I had similar issues and suggest that you might try going directly to the HP driver web site for your system at  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5218614&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us , enter in your operating system and then reinstall the BIOS.
I, too, lost sound to my speakers and Beats Audio didn't work when HP did automatic updates to my BIOS and then my audio driver.  Turns out that the audio driver that HP downloaded was for my system but not my operating system (I have Windows7, but got the driver for Windows8) - I also suspect that the BIOS update was not for my os, because when I installed the correct version of the audio driver for my system/os, my system asked if it installed correctly due to an os conflict, also my system also became very slow.
--> In the end, I installed the BIOS update and then reinstalled the audio driver making certain the downloads were for my system and my operating system  --  and now all is working fine !!!
Another thing I noticed is when I use HP’s ‘scan for solutions and updates’ on their website, it says I need to update my video driver.  The video driver it lists is the one for Window8, not windows7!!
Hope this works for you.  If it does, please post that it worked for you and click on the solved button for others who are looking for solutions.  I suspect there are a lot of users out there that have or will be experiencing the same issue.

Pls I Need Guide line On How To ReFlash the Bios Image back. I don't wanna Take it Back to the Service center and I Blv I can Do It If I'm Well Guided By and Expert like U. Thnx a Million.

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue booting up the notebook. I'm happy to say there is a way to restore the BIOS. Now, I will not say it works 100% of the time.
So, let see if we can restore the BIOS.
I need you to follow this document which should guide you through restoring the BIOS.
    Steps:
    1.    Turn off the computer.
    2.    Plug the notebook into power using the power adapter.
    3.    Press and hold the Windows key and the B key down at the same time while the computer is off.
    4.    Still pressing those keys press and hold down the Power button on the notebook for 3 seconds and then release the Power button and the keys.
The screen remains blank for about 40 seconds before anything appears on the display. You might also hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays.
NOTE: If the computer fails to display an HP BIOS Update screen, press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the computer. Wait 5 seconds and try again. If, after repeated attempts, you cannot open the HP BIOS Update screen, your computer does not support this function or it has a hardware problem that is preventing the tool from opening.

    6. After restoring the BIOS, if the computer repeatedly displays a message that the BIOS has been reset, and then perform the steps in HP BIOS Application Selected is Corrupt or Missing .
    7. After restarting, Windows may display a message stating that the computer was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected. Read and respond to the screens to continue. If you have any other questions let me know. I
If this doesn't work I suggest you recover the BIOS using an external storage device. If you go this route please let me know so I can explain how to do this.

  • BIOS update (F.1A)

    Hello
I have a HP dv7 6195us new laptop. I have Win7 Ultimate multiboot with Win7 Home premium, Ubuntu and Fedora.
I intend to update my BIOS to the latest one (F.1A) on the support website since it adds BIOS support for switchable graphics. I'm aware of the consequences of unsuccessful BIOS update, so I'm a bit afraid to do it. I need to know if the multi-boot setup is going to pose any problems? I had also wiped out the recovery partition and the HP Tools partition while the multi-boot process and I no longer have the access to the HP in-built BIOS update feature.
Can somebody help me in getting the BIOS update done?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Did you create your set of Recovery DVDs?
The reason I'm asking is because although it sounds like a lot of hassle, the safest way to update your bios would be to return the notebook to factory conditions and then update the bios as the flash will then be performed outside of Windows when you restart which is about as safe as you're going to get.

    Hi,
If you laptop works well, don't update it. If not, don't use HP Support Assistant or any other program for updating/downloading the BIOS!! Download it:
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55299.exe
manually to a folder, close all running applications (browser, etc..) and then install it by double clicking on it and following the instructions..

    Ed,
I would not try to fool you - I don't have a reason to do so.
HP no doubt knows the origins of all HP Updates.
To put that in clearer, but poorly constructed English:  HP knows where their Updates come from.
I do not work for HP and sometimes, in the effort to assist,  I make the mistake of using guess work when someone is only interested in true and specific answers.  My supposition is that the BIOS update originated from the HPSA or from HP Updates.  I could be wrong.
I hope your current setup and solution work to keep the system stable.

  • N500 bios update Windows 7 not working

I've tried to run the winflash utility from Lenovo support to update N500 to  v1.10, but it says it can't load the driver once I have started the flashing. • Msi z97 gaming 5 bios update help

Hello I recently purchased the msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard. It was working fine it came with bios version 1.0 and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest 1.5 bios from msi website copied to usb flash drive and flashed it using mflash. Computer powers on but black screen wont do nothing. I cleared cmos and battery and still nothing so I am pretty sure its bricked. I am going to store to exchange it for another one but I want to be able to safely update the bios without bricking again. I usually dont update bios unless needed but i need at least 1.2 bios to fully support the devils canyon cpu. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I read about the usb flashing tool in forum but also read that bios+me need to be flashed and I don't know if that program is up to date and will flash both files? I really appreciate it if someone helped thanks in advance.

Also does anyone know if it is dangerous to update the bios with a 4690k devils canyon cpu since it is not officially supported until 1.2? Is that why my first bios flash was bricked? I would hate to go and borrow another cpu just to update the bios but if I have to I will. Sorry for all the questions but I need to get my bios updated and I will not update it until I am sure of all these things. Thanks to anyone who answers these questions.

However if you need BIOS update prior to have some RAM or GPU working fine (or other stuff), then maybe consider updating to 1.6 and then to 1.9 and finally to 1.B (1.11). I suggest using MFlash (files can be downloaded on MSI's product site, instructions should be included). For Forum Flash tool you need proper files provided (usually) by Svet or Flobelix.
Before attempting to flash, make sure your system is stable!
I downloaded BIOS 1,5 and 1,6 and in both cases i have same issue it stucks on 100% on M-Flash, after this I can normaly shut down pc and it work but witch 1.4 BIOS. I just want know whyi can;t

    Hey Guys,
    I need some help!
I was updating my works laptop Bios and i had the power cord conected and (no battery, it was at home).
Anyway we had a blackout right in the middle of when i was doing the up date.
Now when the computer starts up all the lights come on and there is no display and then a long beep.
Any ideas on how i can fix this?
    It's still under warenty
    thanks
    Michael

    Hello
Sounds like that the BIOS update failed because the notebook doesnt start anymore
How can you fix this? Yourself you cant fix it I think because the ROM module must be reflashed or the mainboard must be exchanged but you can go to the nearest authorized service provider.
The technicians can check this and repair it. On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest ASP:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider
    Good luck!!!

  • BIOS Update for HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO

I was just looking at the updates for my laptop and saw two BIOS updates here.  I was wondering which one actually applies to my particlular machine.   As one can see, one is a few months more recent than the other.  Does this mean that it has the fixes that the older one already employs?   If so, why list both when only the newst one is relevant?
Looking further into this, I took a look at the revision history (Previous Versions) for both and  they each list themselves as "Current".  One lists as  "F.29 Current 10-2013"  and the other "F.24 Current 02-2013".  So, which one is actually current?
Can anyone shed some light on this?   I can post more specific info about my machine upon request if that would help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The one with the later date is more current. This is customary on computer manufacturer support websites. They will usually keep the last couple of versions up there with the latest one. Toshiba is particularly bad about never removing old versions of drivers and BIOS. And BIOS updates are cumulative. You can skip over to the latest one and all the updates in all the interim versions will be included. The files are labeled clearly as to their date of issue and that they only apply to models with Intel processors so it should be apparent you need to install the latest one and only of your machine has an Intel processor. If you need anything else let us know.
